Fantastic.......2007-04-26
There are so many books in this genre that deal mostly with the obsession and downward spiral of becoming an anorectic. I found it refreshing that Stephanie Grant focused more on a story as opposed to only the diseases. Her take on bulimia was pretty brilliant. I cringed with Alice as she witnessed these types of behaviour. Not only that, but I genuinely wanted to know about all of the other characters, and why they were there. Even the reticent compulsive overeater. This is a book that spans many different types of eating issues, with a story to keep you interested. If you have a problem with alternative sexual lifestyles this isn't for you. The title is "Passion of Alice". Guess what? She falls in love with a girl.
Not what I expected...........2006-12-31
I am so glad I did not actually buy this book. I got it from the library. I read it all but many times I wanted to just stop reading it. It reminds me of a really, really bad soap opera. Its unrealistic and even though it centers around girls that suffer from anorexia, bulimia and over-eating its not really truly ABOUT the eating disorders. Its a lot more sexual in nature than I ever imagined and I hated it to be completely honest. If you want a romance novel then this is the book for you but if you TRULY want an understading of REAL people with REAL eating disorders I would find another book.
Foul-1 star too many.......2005-07-18
Although the book itself is very well written, it doesn't deal with any of anorexia's real issues. If you are interested in reading a partial story not even complete about a lesbian, who according to the author, (or rather the height and weight the author gives Alice) is anorexic, then this is the book for you. If you are searching for help for yourself or a loved one in trying to understand what we truly go through, with any eating disorder, this book does not portray any truthfulness at all, except our need to feel empty, and there are many reasons, for example control. If you are truly interesting in learning how to help yourself or a loved one, please do yourself and them a favor and read a real story written by someone who knows what it is like to have an eating disorder, such as "Wasted" by Marya Hornbacher, now that helps explain not only why some of us become anorexic, bulimic, or what have you, but what can truly happen in the interim, and after, should that person choose to want to recover. But this book is a short snippet of a few months while Alice discovers she is homosexual and does not address her issues, background, or anything else for that matter. One word review for this book-foul.
Merely a fictional novel.......2005-02-10
If you think you'll gain an understanding of eating disorders, you'll be disappointed, as this is merely a fictional novel. I suppose that's why it is listed as such. Continuing to battle my own demons, I found this book to be only midly interesting, and mostly a yawn. Some parts did ring true, however.
It would have been nice for the reader (if not Alice) to have known more about Maeve, as she is a central character in the novel. Okay attempt as a first novel for the author. Won't seek out others written by her, though.
It was okay.........2005-01-05
I gave this book 3 stars. I was dissapointed. It was okay, I liked it, but I sure didn't love it. It was a nice read overall but it most definitally isn't a book I'd read over and over again. Once is enough. I COULD put it down for awhile and forget about it. (Granted I didn't do that because I hate not reading books all at once or within a few days~)I don't know what it was exactly about the book I didn't like. It was so different than I was expecting. I bought it thinking it would be a book about a young woman and her stuggle overcomming anorexia but I was wrong. It was purely a piece of the story, not the story. As a person stuggling with an eating disorder, I found many situations in the book hard to believe. That may be because the storyline wasn't focused on the disorder.
So many unanswered questions were there and never even slightly touched. Did Alice even WANT to overcome her eating disorder? Did she want to die all along? ect. ect. I didn't like her character at all really. Something about it. I found the ending rather stupid and unbelievable too. I mean the ending was sad/touching but to me it seemed too unrealistic. Why would she starve herself to death over a lost love? It seems way to drastic. Almost like a 14/15 year old child who broke up with their first boyfriend/girlfriend and will never ever love again so they kill themselves *rolls eyes*
One last part of the book I'm not to sure I liked was all those random like- sex scenes. I found them pretty unnessicary and just book filler *shrug* My opinion.
Pretty much if you want to read this book I'd recommend you DON'T buy this book. Borrow it from a friend or check it out from your local library. It was good/likeable/okay but not great/amazing/breathtaking/lovable. I'd skip reading this book all together if your a homophobe and can't take same gender relationships. Just a bit of warning for you.
My opinion.
Book Description
Welcome to Harmony...
A dreamy New England Coastal town, filled with cobblestone streets, charming colonial homes ... and tumultuous secrets that threaten to tear its families apart. Only Tabitha Lenox knows the intimate details of all their stories. Most of Harmony thinks Tabitha is a "harmless eccentric." But she's really an irrepressible sorceress of darkness who's been causing the town cauldrons of trouble even before Prudence Standish accused her of witchcraft in 1693 (and Tabitha certainly hasn't forgotten!). Based on her secret diaries, Hidden Passions turns back the clock more than twenty years to expose the deepest, darkest secrets of the town's most upstanding men and women. Shocking secrets. Sizzling secrets. Shattering secrets. They're all here...and more. Enter Harmony, but be very careful if you should encounter a mysterious woman carrying a doll. As she's done with Harmony townsfolk for hundreds of years, she may very well look into your heart to see what you truly desire and grant it...for a terribly high price.

Hidden Passions.......2007-10-01
The quality of the book arriving to me was in perfect condition. I have no complaints. As for the quality of the actual book, I'm not finished with it yet but so far so good.
Good.......2007-05-30
I loved the book! I'm a big fan of the soap Passions and it was interesting to read about the things that went on years before the show started. It was all very good except the ending was very strange, it seemed like there should have been more there. Over all it was a great book, but you probably would have to watch the show to really like it and understand it.
Fantastic Reading.......2007-01-10
I bought this book as a gift for my daughter who is a loyal "Passions" fan. She enjoyed the book more than words can explain. She has already read the book twice and is started on reading it for the third time. It gave her alot of info that the soap opera has not. She is very pleased with the book. It was truly a wonderful gift from her mom to her. Thank you.
A nice, trashy, escapist read, but ..........2006-02-10
Why did Passions hype this book only to disregard the so-called history Hidden Passions revealed? Really insulting, if you ask me; I bought Hidden Passions the week it came out, and less than a year later *poof* most of the history laid out in the book has been changed.
In Hidden Passions, Eve is the only child of well-to-do parents, later on we find out that not only does she have a sister, but that the family was poor. I could go on, but I don't watch Passions anymore for a very good reason.
So, if you want to spend eight bucks on glorified fanfiction, go right ahead. If you're looking to read something that sheds some insight on the older characters' histories, forget it, Passions changes the motivations and histories of the characters like a normal person changes underwear.
Great background to the Passions show!!.......2005-09-29
I really enjoyed reading this book, as it portrays most of the background from the current Passions show. It tells pretty much the background details of everything. Of course, if you watch the show, you know some of these details as they've been revealed througout the show, but nothing is like having them in this book, and it was really great! The only weird thing that I thought was that they didn't mention Katherine's sister much. Still a great read!!

Book Description
Paradise calls to Chase Wilcox. A man of science fascinated by the rebirth of life in the wake of cataclysmic natural upheaval, he is drawn to the lush beauty of the island of Hawaii and the secrets it holds—while escaping the destruction of his own personal world. Here where warm breezes caress the skin and vibrant colors assault the senses—and where dangerous fires rage unseen beneath the earth's surface—Chase plans to immerse himself in his work...and somehow heal and forget. The last thing he needs or wants is love.
But the island is home to many unexpected wonders, which is why Nicole Ballard could never leave it. A research assistant, an artist, and a dancer—a tall, stunning redhead who goes by the stage name of Pele, the goddess of fire—she, too, hides a secret pain, releasing her pent-up sensuality to the accompaniment of native drums before a mesmerized audience. Nicole has never met a man quite like Chase, strong, intense, and brilliant. And he, in turn, is fascinated by this remarkable woman who seems to be a breathtaking force of nature in her own right. Fate has cast them together, causing a chain reaction that neither imagined in their most secret dreams.
Joined on an important scientific project that carries them into the verdant heart of a tropical wonder land, Nicole and Chase will be forced to confront their own lingering inner darkness, while resisting a newly inflamed need to touch, to give...to care. But in the shadows of Kilauea, all restraints will be broken, as emotions flow as hot and free as rivers of molten lava. And desire will erupt, as unpredictable and dangerous as the living volcano, transforming the very landscape of their lives—a torrent that no power on earth can contain, a passion that bums like fire.

sex book.......2007-09-07
This book was about the sex & passion from beginning to end.
What a waste of my time.
Wow- this book is a treat for the senses. .......2005-12-20
The opening chapter describes an exotic dance and the accompanying music in a way that brings the true artistry to life! Nicole was such a fine person - I especially loved the way she interacted with the children. Chase had been burned by a woman before, so it's understandable that he'd be wary and distrustful of any new woman, especially one who had created such a strong bond with his family, however his attitude toward her was unnecessarily hostile and judgmental. I found this a bit hard to bear. Still, the details of the various art forms in this book and the vividly described luscious setting made for very enjoyable and sensual reading!
My favourite book so far.......2005-10-08
This is one book I will never forget. It's a story about a man protecting his brother from someone who he thinks is a homewrecker... and we soon find out she is far from it. "Pele" (Nicole) is one of the most interesting characters I've ever read about, and her lifestyle is equally as interesting.
This story by far is the best I've read in a very long time - I just couldn't peel myself away from it until I had found out if they (the two main characters) would be together or not :)
Couldn't put it down!!.......2004-07-30
A love a good book with romance, twist and adventure. When someone gave me this book to read, I set it aside, not really interested. When I was out of anything else to read, I picked it up and couldn't put it down. She goes into great detail...like you are almost there and can feel what they are feeling. It is not the best book I have ever read, but one I will never forget...
UNSYMPATHETIC CHARACTERS, WEAK PLOT INSULTS HAWAIIANS.......2003-04-14
When is it going to dawn on writers/Mainlanders running from their mistakes that we in Hawaii don't want them to come here and bring their "baggage" with them? No matter how "at home" you feel, what kind of spiritual moments you think you have here, you will be an outsider until the day you die-preferably somewhere else. Lowell buys into every tourist cliche ever contrived when she misuses famous Hawaiian names and then names her heroine Pele:that alone should be enough to make Kilaeua erupt in indignation. Using the hula for sexual tension and having onstage clinches is another major no-no. Did she do ANY research with local Hawaiians? This is a formula book with the requisite cute meet, sexual tension, sloppy sex, the "bump" when there is a misunderstanding, and the reconciliation. Romance readers should skip it because it appears hurriedly written and poorly edited, not to mention the commodification of Hawaiian culture for a draw, and just plain bad research - I was a fan until read this one. Now it'll be a while before I buy Lowell again and I hope she rewrites this one with more sensitivity to the culture she pillages for material.

belva burns.......2002-08-15
Three stars is all this Eden Burning Deserves. Not bad but not up to the usual Belva standards. Maybe next time.
A faithful reader awaits!Belva's getting boring. Think I'll switch to Sandra Brown.
Eden Burning.......2000-09-10
I read this book when it first came out and never forgot it. I reread it recently and appreciated it even more. I became each character--knowing, feeling their experiences. I am saving my copy as a gift for my beloved granddaughter. She is just 4 now, but what a "world" Belva Plain has given us!
NOT UP TO HER USUAL STANDARDS.......2000-08-18
I love Belva Plain and have read all of her books. This was the only book I felt was way below her standards. It was implausible. Despite the problems I had with it, to the good it provided nice, vivid descriptions of the Caribbean island life and the characters certainly held one's attention.
The only part that really bothered me was when Teresa, raped as a very young person, let her nurse take her child. One would hope she would fight like a soldier to keep her child. That part really bothered me.
It was good, escapist reading and a nice fanciful trip to an island world where the sun usually shone on the ocean. I liked it.
good book , made me laugh ........2000-05-27
i liked the book . it wasn't a masterpiece of course but it was very good I think . It takes place on a glamorous / slumy island of saint felice . i couldn't help falling in love with the male charectors and hating all the female ones , except for kate tarbox . good book . good book .
Fun but totally unrealistic.......1999-07-28
I know it wasn't supposed to be a work of art, but it made me laugh with her "lush" descriptions of the caribbean. It reminded me of Barbara Cartland, with a better plot. Anyway, it was fun to read, and I would recommend it to someone who wanted to read something light.
