Customer Reviews:
Just a touch of paranormal...........2007-01-24
LuAnn McLane mixes a bit of pixie dust with romance in this collection of three intertwined stories, LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST.
In the first story, Crazy, psychic Mary Jane "M.J." Barone specializes in identifying the soul mates of people. When cowboy Brody Baker wanders drunkenly into her store, she is shocked to find he is her soul mate. However, Brody doesn't believe in the paranormal.
Honky-tonk Angel is the story of M.J.'s sister, Sophia, who is a professional medium. Sexy bar owner, Logan Parks, is adamantly opposed to the concept of mediums, particularly when his sister wants to contact their deceased grandmother. In the meantime, Sophia fears the return of a man she helped put in prison.
Walkin' After Midnight concludes this collection with the final Barone sibling, Lucio. Lucio is solidly grounded in reality as a personal trainer until he meets Logan's sister, Savannah. What happens when LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST collide for these six individuals?
LuAnn McLane does a fabulous job at maintaining the continuity between these three stories. As each story segue ways to the next, the overall plotline is further advanced. The Pixie remains a unifying figure as does the theme of country music.
LuAnn McLane excels at creating snappy dialogue in LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST. M.J., Sophia, and Savannah are all strong women but Brody, Logan, and Lucio are their perfect matches. The sizzling sensuality between each of these couples is sweetly done. The beautiful prose of Ms. McLane quickly engages the reader in each tale as love blossoms between soul mates.
LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST is a quick read that is perfect for curling up next to a fire on a chilly night. LuAnn McLane's tales will appeal to fans of chick lit who want just a touch of paranormal and spice in their stories. Fans of LuAnn McLane will appreciate the winning combination of stories found in LOVE, LUST AND PIXIE DUST.

A romantic magical read that is out of this world!.......2006-10-09
Once again LuAnn McLane captivates her readers. This book is full of fun, romance, sizzle and magic! Three stories taking place in the cool town of Nashville, they portrait romances that are all tied together with characters that are individually unique. I love the way that she brings together the magic side of the story with the romance & matchmaking line. In this book the "opposites attract" becomes real, overcoming their differences to give her readers that happily ever after that we love so much if you don't believe in the magic of a romance, you will believe after this. This is a hot anthology you don't want to miss. Way to go LuAnn!
Another great and steamy read from Ms. McLane.......2006-10-07
Love, Lust, and Pixie Dust is a collection of three stories about the Barone siblings, who come from a family of psychics from New York. Each sibling finds love in the last place they expected to: Nashville, Tennessee.
"Crazy"
"Crazy" tells the story of Mary Jane Barone, a psychic from New York who has moved to Nashville and opened up Psychic Love Connection. She uses her psychic ability to help others find their soul mates. MJ has all but given up on finding her own soul mate, when in walks country singer, Brody Baker. MJ and Brody's chemistry and attraction to each other is instant and MJ knows he is meant for her. Now, with a little help from a mysterious friend named Pixie, she must find a way to make Brody believe in their fated love and in her psychic ability.
This well-written story was laced with humor and hot, vivid, sexy scenes that will not leave the reader disappointed.
"Honky Tonk Angel"
This second addition to the collection tells the story of MJ's sister, Sophia Barone. A famous psychic medium, Sophia has come to Nashville to work on a book and to hide from a paroled murderer that she helped put away. Bar owner Logan Parks is instantly attracted to Sophia despite his skepticism over her ability. Logan must overcome his skepticism and accept all of Sophia in order to be with her or else ruin the relationship.
With several laugh-out-loud moments and hot romance, this story is a standout in the collection.
"Walkin' After Midnight"
The final story in the anthology is about personal trainer Lucio Barone, MJ and Sophia's non-psychic brother, and Savannah Parks, Logan's sister. Savannah, an aspiring singer, is insecure about herself and her appearance. However, Lucio is instantly attracted to Savannah just the way she is and wishes to pursue a relationship with her. When Savannah gets a record deal and suddenly is too busy for a relationship, Lucio schemes to become her personal trainer so he can be with her.
As with the other two stories, "Walkin' After Midnight" has its share of humor and steamy romance as opposites attract.
Once again Ms. McLane has provided readers with a fun and sizzling read. Laced with humor and hot romance, each of the stories in this collection provides readers with an enjoyable experience. I would recommend Love, Lust and Pixie Dust to anyone looking for a sexy, humorous read with a touch of paranormal.
This book is the total package.......2006-10-05
Love, Lust and Pixie Dust is a delightful, fun loving and sexy anthology by LuAnn McLane.
Crazy has Mary Jane Barone running the "Psychic Love Connection." She hasn't found her true soul mate until by mistake a drunken Brody Baker walks into her store. One look from Brody and MJ knows he is the "one." But Brody is a much harder man to convince that Mary Jane is his soul mate especially with all the unexplained goings on. Brody has enough problems getting his solo singing career off the ground let alone dealing with a hot and sassy psychic. MJ and Brody light up the bed sheets with a blazing passion. Their chemistry just plain sizzles.
Sophia Barone gets her story in "Honky Tonk Angel." Sophia has come to Nashville to visit with her sister and to get away from the trouble back home. Sophia has been helping the police with her psychic abilities and its put her own life in danger. But a bigger danger is to her heart once she has set her sights on bar owner Logan Parks. Logan isn't sure he has much faith in Sophia's gifts but there is something about this woman that sets his blood on fire. Can these two opposites work through their differences to find something work keeping? Logan and Sophia connection is electric, their lust for life and each other is endearing.
Walkin' After Midnight brings the siblings of the Barone and the Parks family together. Singer Savannah Parks is finally getting her shot at the big time. Her brother friend Brody Baker is paving the way for her to get a listen to by a big shot record executive. Savannah is hustled to the stage by hot and sexy personal trainer Lucio Barone, who is sent to get her to the stage on time. Other than a little thing like smoking lust at first sight almost gets in the way. Once things take off for Savannah, Lucio isn't sure she will have time for their budding romance. But he realizes something this special you must fight for and he devices a winner takes all plan to get Savannah and their romance in shape. Their one upmanship to make the other lose control is so hot it about sets the pages on fire.
Love, Lust and Pixie Dust is a little bit country and a whole lot of spiciness. Each story is tantalizing, sexy, funny and sweet. One story just flows right into the next, added to the mix is a delightful little Pixie who adds a touch humor and spice that is not to be missed. LuAnn McLane is a writer on the rise, keep this author on your to buy list.
three interrelated paranormal romances .......2006-10-04
"Crazy". In Nashville, Brody Barker celebrates with too much alcohol the release of his first solo recording. Drunk he staggers into The Psychic Love Connection Shop owned by psychic Mary Jane (M.J.) Barone. She realizes immediately that he is her true love, but he thinks she is a nut case especially when Pixie the ghost that only she sees and hears advises her on matters of the heart and soul.
"Honky Tonk Angel". Next door to The Psychic Love Connection Shop is Logan's Bar where Brody was actually heading towards when he tottered into M.J.'s life. Owner Logan Parks is attracted to medium Sophie Barone, sister to M.J. He tries to ease her discomfit from a reoccurring nightmare while caressing his beloved. Frustrated Pixie tries to help this pathetic loser, who denies Pixie's existence, win the woman he cherishes.
"Walking After Midnight" Logan's sister country singer Savannah Parks dreams of a record deal while Lucio (Luc) Barone (brother to M.J. and Sophie) is a personal trainer to the stars and is hired to help her become sexier. They meet and the heat is on. However, his bad boy behavior costs her a chance at a recording deal and them a chance at love. Pixie knows Luc denies the psychic connection making it much more difficult to move this fitness and nutrition expert to understand what love is all about.
These three interrelated paranormal romances also have a love connection to Luann McLane's Wild Ride anthology (see "Hold on Tight"). Each tale is low-keyed fun as the Barone siblings find love with the help of Pixie the ghost.

Book Description
Ernest J. Gaines is best known for his prize-winning THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MISS JANE PITTMAN, but OF LOVE AND DUST has equal power and fascination. It zeros in on an explosion in the making between two men, one black and one white, trapped in the vise of Southern back country prejudice.
When young Marcus is bonded out of jail, he is sent to the Hebert Plantation to work in the fields. He treats Sidney Bonbon, the Cajun overseer, with contempt and Bonbon retaliates by working him nearly to death. Marcus decides to take his revenge.
Customer Reviews:
Another compelling novel from one of America's best writers.......2003-07-24
One of Ernest Gaines' greatest talents lies in his ability to make the reader reconsider initial assumptions and prejudices about the characters in his stories. "Of Love and Dust" introduces us to Marcus, a young African-American man awaiting trial for the murder of another man. Apparently more concerned about his flashy wardrobe than the moral burden he should bear for his crime, Marcus quickly alienates much of the black community he enters when he goes to work on a Louisiana plantation owned by the white man who put up his bail. Often disrespectful of those who offer him advice out of concern for his well-being, in the beginning he comes across as a two-bit punk.
But soon his actions catch us in a moral crossfire. On one hand, we admire him because he refuses to kowtow to the racist customs that defined life in the South in the 1940s. On the other hand, however, he shows no respect or sympathy for the deep-set fear that pervades the plantation community, whose members know they will all suffer the violent consequences if anyone tries to turn the caste system on its head. (Gaines' descriptions of that fear make it almost palpable.)
The story takes off when, pushed to the limit by Bonbon, the plantation's Cajun overseer, Marcus is consumed by a quest for revenge. Marcus' first attempt to emasculate Bonbon comes with his unsuccessful seduction of Pauline, Bonbon's African-American mistress and the mother of two of his children. Rebuffed, Marcus turns his attention to Bonbon's white wife, Louise, a lonely and spiritless young woman who seeks from Marcus the love and attention her husband has saved for Pauline.
As the tale moves inexorably toward its predictable conclusion, Gaines adds to the dimension of the characters, gradually revealing how their actions have been influenced -- or even orchestrated -- by powers beyond their control. "Me and you -- what we is?" asks Bonbon. "We little people...They make us do what they want us to do, and they don't tell us nothing. We don't have nothing to say 'bout it, do we?"
Our initial black-and-white assumptions dissolve to gray, and we begin to view with greater sympathy the people caught up in conflict between their greatest desires and the restrictions of society. Even under pressure from insurmountable external powers, however, those people still rebel, in small or great ways, affirming their humanity, their spirit of independence, and their love for one another.
Gaines begins with good pace, but story fizzles a bit . . ........2000-06-28
Gaines created some great characters and the scene description really paints vivid imagery, but the story doesn't end with the climax that you'd expect from this type of story. Gaines methodically leads the reader and plants the idea of a big show down only to give away the ending in such a way that the last few chapters of the book sort of fizzle. However, due to the smooth story telling style that you'd expect from Gaines, you stay till the finish just enjoying the rythm and end up realizing that there will be no big climax long before the pages end.
Gaines enjoys toying with race and the American class system while subtly preaching to the reader. Not his best Novel, but a good Saturday afternoon read.
Excellent, just like all of Gaines' novels great read.......1999-08-07
Gaines has done it again. He has once again captured the spiritof the Southern Black Male. He like Alice Walker (who captures theSouthern woman) captures his characters spirit and their soul. He is an excellent writer. This book is great, it is easy reading and it addresses the hypocrisy of social and class standings like no other writer I have ever read. I have read four of Gaines' novels and all of them leave me breatless. I always want more even when the book is over. I am now about to read Bloodline and I can't wait. Mr. Gaines if you are reading this, PLEASE KEEP WRITING YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!!!!!
It's outstanding to read and easy to read........1998-04-01
Everyone should read this eye catching and exiting book. Once you start to read you will not put back down.
An all around good novel.......1997-11-08
"Of Love And Dust" is a page-turning, please don't bother me can't you see that I'm reading books. By the author of "A Lesson Before Dying", "Of Love And Dust" is a story that takes place on plantation in 1948 in Louisana. The story is narrated by Jim Kelly, a black man that drives the tractor, and he tells the story of what happened when a young man named Marcus, who is awaiting trial for murder is "bonded" to the plantation to work. Marcus soon bumps head with Sidney BonBon, the cajun overseer, and plots revenge against him by trying to seduce Bonbon's black mistress, Pauline and Bonbon's wife, Louise. Told in the smooth, flowing, yet powerful style that is expected from Gaines, the novel is about the relationships and social interactions between the races and what happened when some dares to follow their hearts and break from tradition or standards that are socially acceptable. One of the things, and there are many, that I loved about this novel is that there is a good deal of humor. It is definitely a book to read.

Book Description
Coal mining, dreams, tough times, and a bright spirit all combine within the pages of this vivid, romantic tale. The year is 1905, but little of the new century's optimism has made its way to the hardscrabble mining town of Buckeye City. Here sixteen-year-old Katy Sollis finds herself trying to reach for a future that's as hard to grab on to as a handful of coal dust. Flavored with the rural tang and spirit of mining life, A Diamond in the Dust takes readers into a year of first love, and struggles fought both at home and within Katy's own mind and heart. A journey of its particular time and place, it's also a story for all who've been at that point when past and future are just inches apart-and the time to reach for dreams is now.
Customer Reviews:
A Diamond in the Dust.......2004-07-30
Sixteen-year-old Katy Sollis has had enough of her coal-mining town in Buckeye City. Too many times she has been filled with dread by the sound of the mine alarm, wondering if this time it might be her own father who has died. When he's home, he's wracked by coughs, so weak he can barely laugh. Not that there's much to laugh about, what with barely enough food to go around. Either way, the mines are killing her family. Katy wants to get out, get away from the poverty, the death, and the hunger. She wants to follow her dreams. But she doesn't want to leave her family.
Then her younger brother Nate is offered a job working in the mines. Her parents think it is wonderful that he will be able to help put more food on the table. But Katy can't stand it: Now, when the alarm rings, she fears for two lives. And even though the family has more food, Nate is often too tired to hold up his fork.
Then Katy learns that her distant, worn-down mother is pregnant --- again. And Katy is being pressured to either drop out of school to work or marry Kenny Randall, the son of the owner of the mine. No one cares that she truly loves Michael Stoner, and that one day, he'll also be working in the dangerous mines. There seems to be no escape for her.
Just when things are at their very worst, Katy is offered hope. Now, she must decide if leaving the mines is worth leaving her family and her love. Quickly.
The Foreword to this novel says that the author herself grew up in a mining town and that many of her family members worked in mines. Perhaps that is why this novel is so rich with historical details: the mother sweeping the house of the coal dust that inevitably gathers each day; children sharing beds and clothes and dirty bath water; and the constant worry of where the next meal will come from. These details really added to the story, and you can't help but feel Katy's plight.
However, and perhaps because the author has such firsthand experience, I found the novel too, too depressing. There was little hope to be found in any corner, and that made reading difficult and not always enjoyable. And while it may be realistic that Katy's mom turned cold from her bitter life, I had a hard time feeling sympathy for her. In a book of such intensity, the reader needs some sort of happiness now and then; but Katy's story just got worse and worse --- and even in the end, things seemed uncertain.
If you are looking for a good book on mining towns, you might also try A LETTER TO MRS. ROOSEVELT by C. Coco de Young. While DIAMOND IN THE DUST is historically accurate, it's hard to feel too much for the characters. It's almost as though you're too scared to get attached because of what might happen. But then, I guess that's how Katy felt every day about the people she already loved.

A Diamond in the Dust.......2001-06-24
I recommend this book to anyone. Even though it is listed under “young adult”, anyone interested in historical fiction will enjoy it, and it can also be read aloud to younger children.
Even though the book is primarily about 16 year old Katy, the other characters in the book have detailed personalities that make you care about what happens to them, too. The details that are included of this time period also add interest to the story. You don’t typically think of what people ate, the clothes they wore, and the way families interacted in other historical time periods. There’s a lot of emotion throughout the book which includes tragedy and hardships, but Katy hopes and works toward a better future. It all makes for a realistic and exciting story.
The author has a web site... where you can read the first chapter to “Diamond in the Dust”.
Product Description
It was 1977 and Ban Vinai had just been set up as a refugee camp for thousands of Hmong who fled the new communist regime in Laos to the safety of Thailand, Mua, a young, Hmong man, had just recently completed his university studies and was living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was aked by Pafua, a refugee girl in Ban Vinai, to help sponsor her and her family for settlement in the United States. Although he hardly knew her, he travelled to Thailand to see what he could do. It was agreed that if they got on well, he would marry her and apply for her and her family to come and live with him in America. In the meantime, he went to work on a Thai government project with Hmong opium growers in Chiangmai where he met a young, Thai woman named Phorn. She was the opposite to the Hmong girl in many ways and he became inadvertently involved with her. After a few months of visits and courtship, he asked Pafua for marriage. To his dismay, her mother refused him her hand. Hurt and disappointed, he turned to Phorn but would soon learn that she was very different from what he understood her to be. Shattered by these events, he returned to the US where he continued to work for Hmong refugees. It was not until many years later when Mua went to Australia, where Pafua and her mother had gone to live, that he discovered the awful truth about her refusal to marry him - a discovery that would profoundly affect him for the rest of his life. This novel is both a mystery and a love story. It is about the Hmong as much as the Thai people and their cultures. The author, who is an anthropologist, has woven many facts into the book that will help the reader appreciate different facets of life among the poor in Thailand, the recent history of the Hmong refugees from Laos, their difficult life in the refugee camp of Ban Vinai and their rich traditions.

A lesson for all children to learn........2006-06-26
This is a really cute little book about love and how we should be living together. Children have asked me to read this to them several times and it has a message that I want them to learn and to remember in order to live in a kind, loving world.
Customer Reviews:
You are wrong, "cheermom"!.......2006-07-26
First I want to say that, as with all Debbie MacComber books, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Secondly, I am a Canadian. This book, "cheermom", was NOT written or whatever in Canada! Yes, we spell neighbour, favourite, etc. JUST LIKE the British do. We do NOT, however, spell curb "KERB". This book was written in the UK. Those other spellings in the book are ALL spellings that you will read in any Pilcher, Binchey, etc. novel! Besides, I read American books all the time, HECK I READ BOOKS FROM AROUND THE WORLD! I had and have no trouble with the world's different spellings (we are all different - yet the same). I just think of it as more new things to learn!! HEY, THE BOOK WAS SUPER!
Poor editing job - so so book.......2003-07-24
Because this book was printed in Canada, it does not use American spellings and was very annoying to read (because it seemed like the words were spelled wrong). For example, neighbour, colour, humour were used. Curb (as in sidewalk) was spelled Kerb. Mr was printed in many places without the period following the "r." As a stickler for punctuation when I am reading, I found this to be enough of a problem that it took away some of the enjoyment of the book.
In any case, I agree with the other review who says that the first and the third stories are good and the second is ridiculous (and boring). Father's Day is the best of the three, dealing with a young widow, her adorable, precocious son and the smoldering handsome, aloof next door neighbor who is mysterious, yet alluring. Good, easy to read romance.
I like Debbie Macomber's novels better than her short stories and recommend Thursdays at Eight if you want to read her better work.
First and Last were Good.......2002-05-06
This book is acturally 3 separate love stories combined into one book. The first story is about Robin Masterson and her son, Jeff. Jeff's father died 10 years earlier when Jeff was just a baby. Robin meets her secluded neighbor,Cole Camden,by chance and the story is developed from this meeting. It was a good story that I enjoyed very much.
The second story has a rediculous plot about the relationship between Zachary Thomas and Janine Hartman. Janine's grandfather(the one who reared Janine) is from the old country where father's arranged the marriage of their daughters to a man of the father's choosing. He arranges the marriage of Zach and Janine. The story is developed from this idea. I do not want to spoil the book for anyone who has not read it.I found it a complete waist of my time. I did not enjoy the story because it made no since in our culter.
The third story is about a rich young woman, Maryanne Simpson and a relationship she has with a man,Kramer Adams, who is "beneath" (so he thinks) her socially/economically. Because of an articule written by Kramer, Maryanne realizes she needs to prove to everyone(mostly to herself)that she is not just a spoiled frail girl from a rich family that is not able to take care of herself. I enjoyed this story very much.

This classic work, first published in 1928, concentrates on the cultivation of the technique of eroticism as an art in marriage. It sets the sexual relationship in the nostalgic prose of a more leisured age.

An incredibly frank highly useful source........2005-08-13
I found an early print edition of this work in a GoodWill store. This is easily the best work I have ever read on the subject; balanced, calm, authoritative.
Highly useful, practical information truly sets this work apart; the reverence the author shows for marital intimacy sets this work head and shoulders above similar works of our so-called modern age.
Highly recommended.
Easily read, Valuable for Youth.......2000-07-11
Treats the subject with calmness and truth. Does not try to make sex into a science. The subject of initial intercourse and how to have this with respect and calm on both partners part was invaluable. Also the discussion of positions vis a vis weight has proven quite correct. Again, an easy read and should be mandatory before initial intercourse.

Book Description
Once upon a time, a fabulous woman met her ideal man...
He was warm and considerate, openly shared his feelings, always understood her thoughts, loved to cook, and had a killer wardrobe. In short, he was perfect.
She waited patiently for the inevitable day when he would sweep her off her feet and kiss her...
And waited...and waited...
But all she got was erratic calls and friendly hugs...
The day came when she could wait no longer. What was the holdup?
She was forced to ask herself some really tough questions. Is he shy? Is my butt too big? Does he have an unspeakable injury? Is he gay?
Sound familiar?

Best for women who are currently dating a gay man.......2005-04-16
The best thing you can do with this book is to give this as a gift to a friend who is dating a gay man, and who thinks that she isn't.
The best thing about this book is that it walks through the steps of a gay man/straight woman relationship, and talks about it from the woman's point of view. It has a section: "What the woman is telling herself," that is very informative.
I don't think there are any gay men who match up 100% to the checklist that this book ends up being, but like I said, I think that this book is more a tool for coping than for anything else.
Technical stuff: This book is written in a comic book format--mostly pictures. I finished this book in about 10 minutes. It's pretty small, too. Only 80 pages.
Overall, an excellent buy, especially since they are selling so cheap used on amazon now.
Cute, Funny, and Very Very True.......2001-02-21
I received this book as a gift from my best friend, who happens to be a gay man. This book tells you all the signs (which are just general, but mostly true) to look for in a guy, and has some of the cutest illustrations. I would recommend this book to any woman out there who thinks she might have picked up a gay best friend instead of a boyfriend.
Gay guys should read this too..........2000-11-20
I bought this for a female friend who doesn't know I'm gay after we debated whether someone else was or not. (She assumes that all effiminate men are gay and that all gay men are effiminate, - I had to laugh to myself as she said this and I butched myself up even more than normal!)
The book has some annoying stereo-types, like all gay men are great dancers (I'm not), but since it's clearly tongue-in-cheek and a quick read, it's great for a few good chuckles to any one, gay, straight, male or female.
All of your "Guy" friends could be your "Gay" friends..........2000-09-28
This book is a witty, entertaining, enlightening look at a quandary faced by so many young women who are plagued with wonderful guy friends that just don't seem to date ANYone. One of my best friends referred this to me who is a closeted gay man. This book not only made me laugh, but I didn't feel as dumb as I used to. Sometimes, gay men seem to be the answer to all of your problems; but then again, there is one thing that a gay man just CAN'T do for a woman...so we have to love them for what they can do for us...
A much needed laugh after he forgot to tell me something.......2000-04-28
I have a lot of gay friends and I can usually tell right away if a man I meet is gay, but every once in a while I ignore my instincts. This book is right on the mark, and, importantly, it also shows kindly how the woman can contribute to the ambiguity of the situation..In other words, for you girls out there this book is a big "HELLO?" (note theatrical inflection)...buy it and you'll save yourself a lot of heartache.
