Drawing a sheep (in Latin)..........2004-07-05
'The Little Prince' is a wonderful story, written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944), a French writer who also worked to fight the Germans during World War II. The publication story of 'The Little Prince' is an adventure in-and-of itself, as it happened at the height of the war, and just a year prior to Saint-Exupéry disappearance over the Mediterranean while flying a mission with his French air squadron. Saint-Exupéry wrote several books, and illustrated them himself, but 'The Little Prince', about the visitor from outer space not so different from us, but perplexed by our ways, and homesick for his home, touches people to this day in profound ways, making this classic an enduring one.
Translated into Latin, this enigmatic classic becomes even more mysterious, yet (for those who know Latin) still a touching and moving story. Books such as 'The Little Prince' translated into Latin make wonderful tools for learning the language. The book here is translated by Richard Howard, a Pulitzer-Prize winning author, who has more than 150 translation titles to his name. Saint-Exupéry's original artwork is incorporated here, in the proper placement according to the French original. They are in full colour throughout the book.
The language here is basic -- Saint-Exupéry wrote 'The Little Prince' both as a children's book and an adult's book, hence the vocabulary and basic writing, in any language, is fairly simple, another way in which the Latin translation, kept to an easy construction by Howard, helps in the learning of the foreign language.
A great book, one to let out of the box.
Timeless in any language.......2000-03-29
The Little Prince is timeless in any language and this particular translation managed to keep the beauty of St. Exupery's words and the little prince's charm.

An Outstanding History of a Cold War Pioneer.......2006-03-22
The Regulus I missile was the Navy's first underwater nuclear deterrent. Before the Polaris submarines were launched in the 1960's, five Regulus missile firing submarines patrolled in the Pacific: the diesel boats USS Tunny, USS Barbero, USS Grayback, USS Growler, and the nuclear-powered USS Halibut. The Regulus I missile was developed through testing of remote-controlled V-1 rocket bombs known as the "Loon" missile at Pt. Mugu. An air-breathing weapon that resembled a small plane, it was launched using JATO bottles from a surfaced submarine.
Dr. David Stumpf's excellent book chronicles the development and deployment of the Regulus I and the successor weapon, the never-deployed supersonic Regulus II. It features chapters dedicated to the test programs of each missiles, and chapters concerning each submarine, cruiser, and aircraft carrier that carried or launched the missile.
The book features hundreds of photographs, diagrams, and fact charts.
David Stumpf, who admittedly is a friend of mine, is a careful historian. This book is exquisitely detailed and well researched, and draws on official documents and personal accounts. His other major historical work is a book about the Titan I and II ICBMs.
A new edition of the book has recently been published with a revised cover. All of the internal content of the book is the same.
For more information about the Regulus missile you can also purchase the DVD "Regulus: The First Nuclear Missile Submarines" available from Amazon.com.
Another interesting book, if you're interested in a first-hand account of life aboard a Regulus-firing submarine, is Bob Harmuth's "Up from the Deep".
A MUST HAVE.......2006-03-22
The most incredible, in-depth, highly researched information about the U.S. Navy's Regulus missiles. If you have any interest in Navy missiles and submarines you MUST have this book! Even with the HUGE amount of tecnical information, it is so well written that even non-techies will find it enjoyable. It is worth buying just for the incredible photographs! BUY THIS BOOK!
Never a Better Regulus Book.......2006-01-04
During the 1950s I was in the U.S. Navy and my first duty assignment was to work on the Chance Vought Regulus One guided missile. From then until 1964 I was both a launch team member and an instructor at the Regulus Guided Missile School. I must say that Dr. Stumph has puled out all the stops and has penned a graphic picture of the Regulus program that could not be equaled. In reading his book I find myself reliving those days as a Regulus sailor. There are many occasions where I can see the past happening all over again and must say the this book is a must for any Navy historian from the cold war era or the Navy's guided missile program that has led up to todays Nuclear submarines and cruise missiles. Many thanks to Dr. Stumph.

Best historical fiction I've read in a long time!.......1999-08-14
I read this book because I like historical novels, particularly ancient history. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself in an ancient time that no other novelist, or for that matter, movie, had exposed me to. I never realized that Roman civilization of that period was so different from later periods. Dynda paints a vivid picture of a life and times in a manner that I could identify with, even though it all took place over two thousand years ago. The style and story reminded me of the works of Dumas. You see everything through the eyes of the main character and in that way the author heightens suspense. And there certainly is a lot of that woven through the political interplay, the bittersweet romance, and vivid battle scenes. Dynda describes a number of battles which leave you shaken as if you'd actually stood on the battlefield. Yet, although war is the backdrop of much of this story, it reaches beyond to the human side. We see a man evolve, escaping the temptations of blind ambition to seek out and find a higher meaning to his life even as the society around him begins its long spiral downward. It felt refreshing to have a number of idealistic characters to identify with. I can also see the parallels Dynda was trying to draw between Roman society then and 20th century America. In summary, I came away entertained and educated, making the book worth every ounce of time I invested in reading it.

Most computer programs that analyze spoken dialogue use a spoken command grammar, which limits what the user can say when talking to the system. To make this process simpler, more automated, and effective for command grammars even at initial stages of a project, the Regulus grammar compiler was developed by a consortium of experts—including NASA scientists. This book presents a complete description of both the practical and theoretical aspects of Regulus and will be extremely helpful for students and scholars working in computational linguistics as well as software engineering.

Three Southern settings, three unique adventures, three complete bestsellers make up this one satisfying volume.
When a plane crash leaves her disfigured beyond recognition, TV reporter Avery Daniels finds herself in the hospital, mistaken for a selfish Texas socialite, the wife of a famous senatorial candidate. Initially unable to communicate, Avery is given plastic surgery that makes her "good as new." Stripped of her identity and completely vulnerable, she learns of an insider's plot to assassinate her "husband"--and she's supposedly in on it. Reporter's instincts may be the initial reason for keeping up the charade, but soon other instincts kick in and Avery finds herself trapped in a world of power, politics, lies, and lust. Mirror Image is full-speed from the start, and doesn't ease up until the final, dramatic showdown.
"Before I'm finished, I'm going to know which one of you killed my mother," proclaims Alexandra Gaither, a striking young attorney out for revenge. Ignited by the cryptic words of her ailing grandmother, Alex storms into a dusty Texas town like a hired gun and reopens the 25-year-old murder case she's not even old enough to remember. Best Kept Secrets takes on the big business of small-town politics. Confronting the three most powerful men in the community, Alex attempts to find the flaw in their carefully constructed history. She's ready for almost every possible complication, every hidden danger except this: her growing desire for one of the prime murder suspects.
Schyler Crandall is back in Heaven--Heaven, Louisiana. The adopted daughter of the most powerful man in town, Schyler ran away years before, distraught over a broken engagement and painful betrayal. Now, with her father fighting for his life in a hospital bed, Schyler jumps back into a world of secrets and lies to salvage a family logging empire on the brink of disaster. Slow Heat in Heaven has been hailed for its "steamy prose," and won Brown the Waldenbooks Award for bestselling single title release. It's the perfect capper for this three-in-one pleasure-fest. --Sara Nickerson

Always a happy ending.......2007-07-18
I enjoyed knowing that these love stories would always have a happy ending. This would be a wonderful relaxing read for the beach.
Not good at all.......2007-07-07
I normally like Sandra Brown's books, however this book of three novels must been very early work. It is so terrible I gave up in disgust and did not finish the last novel. I regret purchasing it.
Get it..it's great!!.......2005-01-21
I happened across this book in a used book store. I'm a fan of Sandra Brown, although I don't cut her any slack when I read one that isn't what I expected. Let's face it, we have to tell it like it really is. But all three of the stories in this one book happen to be some of Sandra's very best writing. Do yourself a favor and get it. I thought it was greeeaaatttttttt!!!!
Liked the first 2, the other was so-so.......2003-04-09
The 1992 edition of this book is riddled with spelling errors and poor punctuation. I found 10 errors alone in SHH. I enjoyed the first 2 novels. I like the mystery aspect of both. The third, SHH was sub-par. I lost interest half-way through. A great bargain overall. Smaller print than most hardcovers.
Sandra Brown is a literaray genius.......2002-01-29
I do not understand where all these bad reviews are coming form, I am a huge Sandra Brown fan, and I think that three stories in one was the perfect idea, by the time I have finished one, I'm ready to go to read all Sandra Browns books, and best kept secrets was one of my favorites, as for some of the other reviews, Sandra Brown writes fiction novels, so they are based soley on the creativity she finds within herself, and I think that she has done a dam good job at keeping us all entertain. No matter what she writes she does it in a way where I can not put the book down!

When an unexpected storm disrupts young widow Alicia Russell's camping trip with her two sons, she and the boys are rescued by a mysterious man who offers them shelter for the night. Alicia is reluctant to accept Pierce Reynolds's offer, but the ferocity of the storm and the resulting damage to her own cabin leave her little choice.
Pierce's attention to the boys wins their outright worship--and reminds Alicia how much her sons have missed having a man in their lives--while his sensuality rekindles emotions Alicia had thought were long buried. But as she gradually allows herself to explore her desires, Pierce seems determined to keep his distance emotionally for reasons he can't, or won't, explain.
Well written and sensual, this hardcover reissue of one of Brown's early entries in the Bantam Loveswept line holds up well given the time that has elapsed since its initial publication in the early 1980s. The plot device of enforced togetherness is somewhat tiresome, but longtime Brown fans looking for a hardcover edition of an old favorite might like to splurge on this one. --Lisa Wanttaja
Book Description
From the beloved Sandra Brown, whose "storytelling gift [is] surprisingly rare" (Toronto Sun), comes this New York Times bestselling novel, an exquisitely sensual tale of a young woman's sudden, irresistible affair with a stranger—a man whose secret could shatter her life....
Since the death of her husband, Alicia Russell has struggled to take care of her two young sons alone. But when a sudden storm threatens to ruin a family camping trip, Alicia must rely upon a stranger for help. Before long, the man offers much more than shelter from the storm.
Handsome, sensual, and slightly mysterious, Pierce Reynolds showers much-needed attention on Alicia's sons—and reminds her how it feels to be desired. But even as Pierce tempts Alicia to explore her newly reawakened longings, he holds her at arm's length, his only explanation a silent refusal to share the secrets of his heart.
Alicia knows she can't give Pierce up without a fight. But how can she convince him that love is a risk worth taking?

Much better than the "prequel"........2005-08-25
First let me say, I hated Breakfast in Bed and this is a continuation of sorts to that book.
After her best friend and fiance run off together (BIB), the main character finds love in an unlikely place. I thought the plot twist at the end was great and it was an overall easy read.
An Easy and enjoyable read.......2005-08-12
This book was my introduction to an author named Sandra Brown and I've been a fan for the past six years. The day I picked it up I needed something to escape from long hours of studying and practicing accounting figures in the library and it did just that from the first to the last sentence in five hours. However, I recommend you read "Breakfast in Bed" first . . . "Send No Flowers" is a continuation.
Simple yes, but Enjoyable.......2005-05-27
This is a simple love story, true; it is definitely not her best material, but good none the less. It has that `stranded' feel to it at the beginning, which I love. I loved both Alicia and Pierce; however I did grow impatient with him throughout the book. But in the end, it was worth the wait. And it warmed my heart to read the inclusion of old friends from Breakfast in Bed. I wouldn't say run out and buy it, I did only because I like to own her books, but at least pick it up from the library. It's a worth while read.
Wonderful!!.......2004-07-06
The way Sandra Brown writes is wonderful. So far i have gone through a ton of her books and I have not found one I dislike.
With this one she portrayed the characters perfect. It was like you stepped into the story and where there with the characters. I loved it.
This one i have read more than once and it still wasnt enough.
Great story.......2003-04-02
I absolutely loved this book, I was in the bookstore with my sister and she picked up this book, I read the first line of it and knew I had to get it too, it was really fun to read and I have recommended it to almost everyone i know, and everyone has said that they loved it too! I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good romance novel.

Fun Potato Chip book.......2005-08-19
I love these Harlequins and read them like I eat potato chips. Sam is a freelance reporter ghostwriting the biography of a Hollywood star. Blaize wants her to omit his mother from the biography. They fall in love in spite of the complications. This is a quick and entertaining romance. I have no idea what book the previous reviewer read, but it certainly wasn't this one although the one she read sounds entertaining also.
The most inventive Harlequin I have ever read........2000-09-02
When I read a Harlequin it is usually because I need to take a break from my brain; I expect simple heroines with complicated situations or complicated heroines in simple situations. It is pretty reliable...and worth the less expensive cover price. Rachel, the heroine in Send Me No flowers, is very complicated and quite witty woman in a very delicate and complicated situation. She lives in Love, Michigan; the Valentines Day capital of the world, the problem is she is a woman who has every reason to give up on Love and "love." Every year the town goes crazy for the month of February, which is a problem for Rachel because she is the town physiatrist and most of her clients have serious hang-ups about being alone in the love capital of the world. So she boycotts Valentines Day, which angers the town mayor, Drew, enough to try and "change the nut's mind," by dating her. This is a very funny book that is more inventive in 200 pages than most 500-page books. It is worth the little extra surcharge if you can get a copy of this book. Definitely the most Un-Harlequin, Harlequin book I have ever read...in a good way.
