Book Description
Book 2 of the Healing Touch series. Dr. Grant Sheldon's move to Dogwood Springs is not turning out as he had planned. The ills he thought he'd left behind in the big city trouble this otherwise peaceful town, too. Lauren is drawn to Grant and his twins, but she is concerned that her feelings for them conflict with her commitment to remain single. Just when she feels she must step back, circumstances thrust her even closer. Drawn from real-life experiences, Hannah Alexander interweaves the lives, loves, and spiritual struggles of hospital personnel with the high drama of ER action.
Customer Reviews:
Good messages and a good read.......2007-08-23
The Healing Touch series does not have as much suspense as the Hideaway series, but I still really enjoyed Necessary Measures. Hannah Alexander's books are always entertaining reading with some good messages or lessons included. I always seem to find something to apply to my life when reading the books. A couple of the messages from this book are praying for your enemies and accepting your singleness. As always there was interesting medical information included.
Looking forward to the next book in this series!!!.......2003-08-27
The husband and wife writing team behind the pen name Hannah Alexander have struck gold with Book Two of the Healing Touch Series. Personally, this reviewer has not read the first book in this series, but found this did not effect the reading experience. Those that have read the first book are reintroduced to some of Dogwood Springs citizens. The authors do a great job of catching the first time reader up with background information.
Grant Sheldon, the ER director, at Dogwood Springs Hospital, and his twins Beau and Brooke have setted into their new home. Life has had it's difficulties adjusting to the loss of wife and mother, Anette. Grant and his children have grown to love family friend and nurse, Lauren McCaffery. The relationship between Lauren and the Sheldon family becomes more intertwined when Grant goes out of town, leaving the twins in Lauren's care. The growing drug problem in Dogwood Springs hits too close to home as Beau, Brooke and their friend are endangered.
The pace of the ER was reminiscent of some of today's hottest medical shows on television. Reading the details proved to be very exhilerating especially as the emotions ran high among the staff members. At the same time while the hospital scenes were fast paced, other scenes such as those between Grant and Lauren were favorably slower. The slower pace will allow readers a chance to build up an ernest desire for these two individuals to break past the boundaries of their friendship. Looking forward to the next book in this series!

Awesome light reading.......2003-07-15
I have read Hannah Alexander books now for two years.
They are great books to read full of drama and lovable, moral
characters. There is humor, mystery and a little bit of romance.
I highly recommend his entire series. After finishing his book,
you close the book feeling good about life.
Can't Wait for Book 3!.......2003-04-22
I read a lot of Christian books, but most of them are non-fiction. I'm very selective about the fiction I read - there's just not enough time to read all the good stuff out there! I used to enjoy reading Robin Cook's medical suspense books, so I was glad to find good medical fiction novels by Hannah Alexander!
The first ones are a trilogy: Sacred Trust, Solemn Oath, and Silent Pledge. I highly recommend all these! Then the authors started a new series called Healing Touch and Necessary Measures is the second book in that series. Second Opinion is the first one, and you should read that before you read this one.
This wonderful series is centered around a small-town hospital emergency room in Missouri. The medical parts ring true for a good reason - Hannah Alexander is a pen name for a husband/wife writing team and the husband is an ER physician! These books will appeal to both men and women, and contain suspense, drama, a little romance and a lot of inspiration. The authors really make their characters come to life and you will find yourself reading quickly to find out what happens next.
The only downside to these books is that, as of April of 2003, there are only two books in this series! A third will release in May - will there be more from this great author team??
Happy reading!
Inspirational and Compelling ER Drama!.......2003-02-26
If you like the television drama "ER", you will love Hannah Alexander's newest ER novel, Necessary Measures. Like the TV show, Necessary Measures has all the intrigue and heroism of an active emergency room. Unlike the TV drama, this Christian novel weaves a message of inspiration and hope without compromise.
Characters Dr. Grant Sheldon and Nurse Lauren McCaffery face real-life dilemmas, with difficult people and heart-rending situations. Fast-paced and compelling, this book will keep you turning pages until the issues are settled in the end.
This is the first book I've read by Hannah Alexander, but it will definitely not be my last. This husband and wife team truly knows how to craft a believable, touching story. If you like tales surrounding the medical world, Necessary Measures will more than satisfy.

Provides Great Information .......2007-07-11
I bought this book on a whim because I absorb tons of useless information. However, this book is a guide to guide to explaining a lot of everyday things we encounter; what they mean, determined, or why. I learned how to actually decipher my electric bill, or that fish inspection is voluntary (unlike other meats) and is not regulated by the USDA. This book is extremely useful in explaining everyday numbers that we are so accustomed to seeing! Great read and definitely something to keep around as a reference tool!

The SAS effort in Bosnia, more thoughts then action........2003-08-27
Spence travels to Bosnia as part of the SAS effort in the war torn area. He explains in detail their particular mission and its very interesting to see what these guys actually did over there. We don't hear much about the things these guys so we don't give them the respect and honour they deserve. All Brits know about the SAS but we don't know what they do everyday to protect us and people around the world. Spence gives us a taste of a typical SAS mission outside of the Middle East.
I found this book to be very detailed, an insight into the emotions and humour of the SAS. Its lacking in the action department so hardcore action fans will get a little tired after a while. What action parts it does have are superbly detailed and thorough in giving the reader a good understanding of the events.
The book gives a good interpretation of the SAS missions over in Bosnia, not the whole UN effort; it's a good educational read from that aspect.
Spence writes how its impossible not to become emotionally attached to the situation in Bosnia, you can't maintain your moral objectivity while serving there and he gives a good account of why.
I highly recommend Spence as an author if not for the action just for the insight into the SAS he provides.
3 stars (in comparison to his other book its not as good but his writing style deserves a 4.5 star rating)
Good account of Baltic trouble.......2002-11-09
This is the only book about covert ops in the former yugoslavia that I have read. It is fast paced and very descriptive. For other great reads on the SAS try Andy McNab and Chris Ryan.
More Background Needed.......2002-04-06
The author does a good job of describing the British effort. I would have liked a more detailed review of the political and social situation that brought the country into the civil war. I also think more could have been done to develop the overall desperate state that the whole country fell into. I would look at this book as a good start to finding out more about the conflict but not the only book one would want to read.
A fascinating read.......2001-07-26
Spence gives a good account of the hazards of peacekeeping and the horrors of civil war.
You can feel the realistic thrill - very interesting.......2000-03-25
If you liked his first book (Sabre Squadron) you love this one. As a soldier who also served in bosnia only 1 1/2 years later, this is a very good review of the situation. You can imagine, what`s going on in kosovo. A very good book an guidance, not only for soldiers. For all who love action, thrill and realistic stories. See and feel what it mean to be a soldier at the frontier to hell - for peace and himanity.

Humorist Dave Barry and suspense writer Ridley Pearson have clearly taken great delight in writing a 400-plus page prequel of sorts to Scottish dramatist J.M. Barrie's beloved Peter Pan stories. The result is a fast-paced and fluffy pirate adventure, complete with talking porpoises, stinky rogues, possible cannibals, a flying crocodile, biting mermaids, and a much-sought-after trunk full of magical glowing green "starstuff." Ever hear of Zeus? Michelangelo? Attila the Hun? According to 14-year-old Molly Aster they all derived their powers from starstuff that occasionally falls to Earth from the heavens. On Earth, it is the Starcatchers' job to rush to the scene and collect the starstuff before it falls into the hands of the Others who use its myriad powers for evil.
On board the ship Never Land, an orange-haired boy named Peter, the leader of a group of orphaned boys being sent off to work as servants in King Zarboff the Third's court, is puzzled by his shipmate Molly's fantastical story of starstuff, but it inextricably binds him to her. Peter vows to help his new, very pretty friend Molly (a Starcatcher's apprentice) keep a mysterious trunk full of the stuff out of the clutches of the pirate Black Stache, a host of other interested parties, and ultimately King Zarboff the Third.
The downright goofy, modern 8-year-old boy humor sometimes clashes with an old-time pirate sensibility, and the rapid-fire dialogue, while well paced, is far from inventive. Still, the high-seas hijinks and desert-island shenanigans will keep readers turning the pages. Greg Call's wonderful black-and-white illustrations are deliciously old-fashioned and add plenty of atmosphere to a silly, swashbuckling story that shows us how Peter Pan came to fly and why he, and his story, will never get old. Customer Reviews:
Peter and the Starcatchers.......2007-10-09
Peter and the Starcatchers was a really exiting book that offered a lot of detail. I think that the two authors; Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson, did a really good job writing it. Basically a prequel to Peter Pan, the award-winning motion picture by Walt Disney, this book is about an orphan named Peter that helps the Starcatchers in defeating two villainous foes.
When Peter meets Molly Aster, he just thinks that she is just an important passenger on the Never Land, the ship he is sailing on. But when he finds out something about her and her family, it takes Peter to an island beyond his wildest dreams full of pirates, giant crocodiles, mermaids and traitors!
wonderful for children and adults.......2007-08-30
I just finished reading this aloud to my children, boys age 9 and 6, and daughter, age 3. IT WAS WONDERFUL! The boys asked every night "Is it time to read Peter?" They loved the excitement on the ship and the island. Yes, I "reworded" a few sentences to simplify for them, but, overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this. We hurried to start Peter and the Shadow Thieves, which I will review later (but loved it, too!) My boys and I are definitely "hooked" on these books!
missing something.......2007-07-24
The plot of this book flows along at a fast pace, coming to a conclusion that very neatly wraps up everything into the nice package of where Peter Pan as we know it begins. However... I felt that although the plot was conveniently going in the right direction, it was also completely wrong. The mermaids and flying and Tinkerbell and everything else magical in the book are treated like the effects of radiation rather than magic. None of the characters are examined deeply at all. I'm very disappointed. I was very confused as to why Peter's grammar teacher spoke with bad grammar! If this was meant as a joke, it just came off as bad writing. I decided to give my copy away.
Awesome!.......2007-07-11
If you've ever wondered how Peter Pan may have become Peter Pan... then this book is for you. It's an amazing tale of an orphan named Peter who is hauled onto a ship (named the Never Land) along with other (lost) boys to be transported to an evil king where they will be forced to live as servants. This is where he comes in contact with several people including an evil pirate named Black Stache who you will quickly realize is set to become the future Captain Hook.
The story centers itself around a magical trunk that is filled with "starstuff." Peter meets a girl named Molly whose family is trying to protect the trunk and keep it out of the wrong hands. The contents of the trunk are extremely powerful and have different effects on different people. One special thing though.. it allows whoever comes in contact with it the ability to fly. Temporarily of course, as the stuff wears off over time.
I bought this book at a ridiculously low price at a book sale because I thought it looked interesting and I've always loved the story of Peter Pan. Well, the moment I started reading it I couldn't put it down. This is an amazing, fast-paced story that any child, young adult, or adult would love. It's a quick and fun read and I can't wait to get my hands on the second book. I highly recommend!
Looking forward to the musical .......2007-06-29
Ridley Pearson's daughter had a great thought while she was being read Peter Pan. What happened to Peter before losing his shadow? That was were Ridley and Barry took off flying with a prequel to the beloved Peter Pan. This book is an action packed adventure that children will love. Many of the magical mysteries of Peter and his band are explained as more questions arise. When we heard the two authors talk they did say that a sequel to this prequel will be following soon. There were times that the book seemed to bounce back and forth. The good guys have the trunk, the bad guys have the trunk, the good guys have the trunk, etc. Yet, the story unfolds well and will hopefully put Peter Pan back on stage.

From award-winning author Patricia Potter comes a spectacular novel set in the wild Scottish Highlands, where a daring beauty and a fearless lord defy treachery and danger to find their hearts' destiny....
Marsali Gunn had been betrothed to Patrick Sutherland when she was just a girl, yet even then she knew the handsome warrior would have no rival in her heart or her dreams. But when Patrick returns from distant battlefields, a bitter feud has shattered the alliance between their clans, and Marsali prepares to wed another chieftain. Boldly, Patrick steals what is rightfully his, damning the consequences. And Marsali is forced to make a choice: between loyalty to her people or a still-burning love that could plunge her and Patrick into the center of a deadly war....
Customer Reviews:
Don't Miss Catching This Star of A Book!.......2005-06-04
Marsali Gunn and Patrick Sutherland had been betrothed since childhood, but a war between the two families has shattered the alliance and now their happiness together is forever threatened. Thinking that a third party is to blame for all the mischief and heartache on both sides, Patrick devises a daring and risky plan; to get both families back together again, his neighbor who's causing all the problems out of the way, and to marry his beloved Marsali. Well, things don't always go exactly as planned, but it does seem fate is on Patrick's side in the end. Potter is very throw in her in her character developments. Marsali and Patrick are both strong and very believable. The storyline flows smoothly and is compelling. This is defiantly a page turner! I highly recommend this book.
my favorite patricia potter book so far!!!.......2000-07-09
In Scotland, customs are different, but in a blink of an eye everything can change. Marsali Gunn was betrothed to Patrick Sutherland, when they were both just children. Yet through wars, and family disputes, these to star crossed loves will challenge all the odds against them to stay together. They plan to uncover a devious plot, that has torn the Sutherlands, and the Gunns, families apart. Will this couple be able to fight for their true love, regardless of what there families want. READ IT AND FIND OUT.
Too much of everything but the romance.......2000-04-30
This historical romance, set in medieval times, features a sensitive hero, a strong heroine, an assorted cast of lively secondary characters and a fast-paced adventurous plot that, unfortunately, kept me from fully enjoying the developing romance between the hero and heroine.
Marsali and Patrick are betrothed at a young age and, unlike many arranged marriages, they're actually happy about it. They're good friends and as they grow a little older they become attracted to each other and both are looking forward to the day when they'll be wed. When Patrick returns home after a sixteen year absence, scarred, tired and heartsick (he's been off fighting a war), he finds Marsali betrothed to another and their families, who've always been great friends, are now at war. After secretly meeting Marsali, Patrick figures out that something fishy is going on and sets out to find the culprits responsible for the family feud. All the poor, weary man wants is peace and his Marsali back but he'll have neither until he can force two stubborn old men to face the obvious truth.
This was an okay read but not a keeper. I loved the opening of the book, it really hooked me, but somewhere along the line the original magic got lost. It didn't seem to me like the hero and heroine spent all that much time together, possibly because there was always so much going on around them. Because of this I just didn't get a chance to know or feel anything for the characters. It's not that they were unlikable or annoying, they just didn't engage me. They were beautiful, brave and honorable but they weren't all that original or special and were almost a bit on the "too perfect" side. And the dialogue (after the first few chapters) just didn't move me - I didn't laugh or cry. Also, I knew where the story was leading very early on because I was told who the bad guys were and exactly what their whole fiendish plot was about so the following war/adventure story was a bit of a chore to get through. And the last thing I wasn't crazy about was the heroine's pet ferrets. I thought they were unnecessary because they didn't provide any humor, and although they did help bring out Patrick's sensitive side, I felt they weren't necessary for his character's growth. They were portrayed as snippy, temperamental creatures without much allure. I've said before that I wish there were pets in every book but in this case they were more of any annoyance than anything. And I like ferrets! My Mom has a cute, shy, little guy who has never snarled or bit anyone. All this stuff combined made for a very slow read.
There were things I did like about this book (or else I never would've finished it). I'm a real sucker for a Scot's accent and I always like a strong warrior who still manages to retain his sensitive heart and this story had plenty of both. And I'm sure you'll like this book if you're really into action-adventure "me & you against the world" plots and don't mind near perfect characters. There was nothing offensive about it, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I think this just confirms something about my tastes, I'm not crazy about action-filled romances UNLESS the characters wow me with their charming personalities. Only a selected few have managed to work for me because the adventure almost always overwhelms and ruins the love story for me. Some I can think of that worked were: Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER (although I stopped there, couldn't get into the 2nd one), Justine Dare's FIRE HAWK and Patricia Ryan's SECRET THUNDER.
Ms. Potter reaches for the stars..........1999-06-17
...and once again, she grasps them. This book is wonderfully constructed, with events straight up to the end to keep you interested in the tale of two starstruck lovers. Now that I've said that, does anyone else see a bit of Romeo and Juliet in them?
This book was a awesom attention catcher. enjoyed it!.......1998-02-18
I loved this book because it was an attention getter from the start. You have to admire the characters charisma and capability to change. This book is one of those books that you hate to see end and a sequel is what is needed here!

Book Description
In this action-packed conclusion to the Starcatchers trilogy, Peter and Molly find themselves in the dangerous land of Rundoon, ruled by the evil King Zarboff, who takes great delight in watching his pet snake, Kundalini, consume anyone who displeases him. But that's just the start of the trouble facing our heroes, who once again find themselves pitted against the evil shadow creature, Lord Ombra, in a struggle to save themselves and Molly's father - not to mention the entire planet - from an unthinkable end. Meanwhile, back in Never Land, a tribal war is under way, and while Peter is off fighting to save the world, a young Mollusk princess has no choice but to join forces with sinister pirates to save her island from the vicious Scorpions.
Peter and the Secret of Rundoon is a wild desert adventure - with flying camels, magic carpets, and evil shadows - that literally zooms toward an unforgettable and unimaginable climax. Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have teamed together once again to pen a story with unrelenting action and adventure that can be enjoyed by listeners of all ages.
