James Herriot's Yorkshire: A Guided Tour ...........2007-08-09
Wonderful! It is a lovely description of the sites and it presents splendid photographs.
I enjoyed it very much.
Picture Perfect Heaven!.......2007-05-14
This is the perfect book for those of us who are James Herriot junkies! I had just finished re-reading the four Herriot books in the American series, and found it great fun to read Jim Harriot's own words describing so many of the scenes in the books, and in the TV series.
Probably terrific in hardcover.......2007-03-09
I put five stars here because I'm sure the hardcover edition rates it. I thought I was ordering hardcover, but got a very cheap paperback instead. This is a book that NEEDS big pages and color pictures; forget about the paperback edition. I tossed it.
Review of James Herriot's Yorkshire.......2007-01-04
Having never been to England, this book with its wonderful pictures was a real treat. Herriot gives his own commentary on all the locations pictured. It was very enjoyable reading.
A must-have for any James Herriot fan.......2006-09-15
James Herriot, actually James Alfred Wight (1916-95), a native of Glasgow, Scotland, qualified as a veterinarian at 23 years of age, and quickly fell with his new location of Yorkshire. Beginning in 1970, James began to write books, reaching into his years of experience as a vet, and spinning out enthralling and entertaining stories of things that did happen and things that might have happened on the Yorkshire Dales. He so loving described his little world, that before long people around the globe began searching maps for his beloved Darrowby, and found...nothing! Like much in James stories Darrowby is a composite of real locations and the Dales of his imagination.
In this book, which was first published in 1979, James takes the reader through the real Yorkshire Dales, telling all about its rugged and captivating beauty. Overall, I found this to be a fascinating read. James deeply loved the Yorkshire Dales, and this book definitely brings that through. With each page, you can see the Dales through his eyes, and it will definitely make you want to go see it! This is a great book, a must-have for any James Herriot fan, and I highly recommend it!

Book Description
Book 5 of Song of Acadia. In their own incomparable style, Janette Oke and T. Davis Bunn paint a portrait both lavish and poignant of the colorful, chaotic world of the American Revolution, where danger is rife and political views run deep. And once drawn into that world, readers will be reluctant to reemerge until the last triumphant chapter has drawn to a close. Learning of their beloved father's precariously ill health, Anne and Nicole make separate plans to visit him in Georgetown, in spite of the dangerous instability of the times. Nicole travels from Massachussetts with her fianc, while Anne and her husband must brave an arduous transatlantic crossing from England. But the hazards of travel are not to be compared to the events or struggles with which each of these "sisters of the heart" must ultimately come to terms.
Customer Reviews:
good series.......2007-01-15
This was a great series, enjoyed all the story from the first book to the last.
The saga continues..............2005-04-29
I have loved all the stories in the Song of Acadia and I hope that there are more to come. I completed the reading of this story in only three days. Once started it is almost impossible to put down.
This story is the continuation of Louise and Catherine's story which started in The Meeting Place and the lives of their daughters Anne and Nicole. At the end of this book the two families find that are bound more closely together in a way they could only imagine.
However, there may be a mistake in the story line. As another reviewer mentioned, I remember Louise's mother leaving Acadia in The Meeting Place with her family. My memory may be wrong;but, never the less it is still a great story.
Once again the fervrent love of God and his will among our lives through prayer and His answers is the cornerstone of this story.
A wonderful story. One you will not want to miss.
Still Historically Inaccurate, but a good book........2004-05-11
I probably notice the history content more then I should due to my schooling, but other then that, the book was pretty good. I felt this book was meant to tie up all the loose ends that had come about in the other books from the series. At times this book can come across preachy, but that's just my opinion. I liked this book, but enjoyed the others more.
Could someone please explaine.......2003-03-23
Ok, not to give anything away, but I've got to have this figured out for me. I've missed something. In the first book The Meeting Place Louise's name is Louise Belleveau, daughter of Jacques Belleveau, with two brothers Eli and Philippi. Now it the last book Nicole delares her mothers name to be Celeste Louise Evangeline Brassard, before marrying Henri Robichaud, and the letter from Charles states that (Celeste) Louise's mother had three children and only one lived to adulthood being Louise herself. Did I miss something? Information on her mother dieing seems to be know before the deportment of the Acadians according to the Charles' investigation, though her mother was on the boat with her which is when the investigator says there is thereafter no further information.
The other thing I can't figure is where Uncle Guy comes from. He is Guy Robichaud in TBL, appearing to be Henri's brother, but then it seemed in TMP Henri was an only child, though not stated. And in The Sacred Shore it says: "He (Henri) slowed and waited for Louise's brother to hurry over. Henri had always liked Guy."
Although another reviewer missunderstood that Celeste was actually the name of two different characters, first the name of John's father's first wife but also the part of Louise's name. They missed the fact that she was named after her Grandmother, thus confirming her decent from John's half-sister.
All this said I found the entire Acadia series gripping, inspirational, challenging and it sparked a desire for a closer walk with God.
His niece, not his half-sister.......2003-01-16
Please read more carefully. John Price's half-sister was the mother of Louise Robichaud. Louise therefore is his niece, making her first cousin to Catherine.
I've very much enjoyed this series. They have portrayed great faith without being preachy.

Book Description
Through oral histories and a captivating array of historic and contemporary photos, this book records a vibrant and resourceful way of life that has contributed so much to the region. Descendants of pioneer ranching and farming families tell stories about rural life and vaquero culture that enrich our knowledge of settlement, culinary practices, religious traditions, arts, and education of Hispanic settlers of Arizona. They also talk frankly about how the land changed hands and tell how they feel about the disappearance of the rural lifestyle.

Beloved Land: An Oral History of Mexican Americans in Southern Arizona.......2006-07-10
Patricia Martin spent many hours interviewing Mexican Americans in Southern Arizona and their stories are unique to the area. Hard working, wonderful people survived in Southern Arizona. These types of individuals are gradually dying off and their stories needed to be told for future generations. The individual stories/chapters are delightful to read.
A Great.......2005-02-14

Customer Reviews:
A little disturbing.......2007-07-22
I generally love Kleypas's ability to create faceted, interesting lead characters whose lives intersect in an original story. This book, however, is a bit troublesome. Celia and Justin, the main characters, come together in a first sexual experience that can only be termed "rape." Celia repeatedly says "No," though with decreasing fervor as Justin persists. Kleypas writes it delicately-- as delicately as possible given the forced nature of the interaction-- but it is still upsetting to read.
WOW, powerful and intense to the end.......2007-01-13
I love Lisa Kleypas. I've actually read every book she's written, and I took them all to my work and now my co-workers are racing through them as fast as they can. But this book and it's prequel are my most favorites. Thank goodness I ended up reading them last. But I would give Lisa Kleypas five stars on almost all of her books. She's a very descriptive writer (not just in the sex scenes) She uses more colorful words to describe her characters. In this book you see into the soul of the characters. Especially in the beginning when Celia endures such horrific ordeal and horrific ordeal. I think she and he are both heros!
It was a great book!.......2007-01-07
Get it. It really is worth the read. You won't regret falling in love with this author. She writes amazing stories and this is just another one of them.
Pirates, plantations and puritanical virgins.......2006-08-01
Celia Vallerand is aboard a ship sailing from France to New Orleans with her new husband when they are attached by pirates. After killing her husband, the leader, Dominic Legare, takes Celia as a prize for his beloved brother. The exchange will never take place if Captain Griffin, another pirate, has anything to say about it. After Celia confesses to him that she is a Vallerand and he will be compensated well for her safe return, Griffin takes matters into his own hands to save this innocent bride. What ensues is a tale that tells of pirates, life on a plantation, and how a puritanical virgin can set her pride aside to find true love.
Okay, first of all, I have to agree that the idea of her being a virgin even though she's married is foolish and just a bit too easy. I would have expected more from Kleypas, but then they can't all be winners. I liked that Griffin's character stayed roughly the same throughout the entire novel. Yes he's demanding, overbearing, loudmouthed and obnoxious, but at least he's consistent. It's not like he's forcing her into bed one minute and then apologizing the next. I can respect that the characters at least didn't change halfway through the novel to make them more likeable. And believe me I didn't like them. Oh well, Kleypas has given me some lovely gems before in the form of Suddenly You and Lady Sophia's Lover. I can forgive her for this one.
leave it on the shelf.......2006-07-31
I normally like her books, but this one was not only hard to read, but mildly offensive. I have always enjoyed her books because they show women as strong, capably people- this one does not. And while rape may be appropriate in pirate literature and historically correct, I choose not to read stuff that glorifies it.
In short, even if you normally enjoy her works, leave this one on the shelf.
