Book Description
Eric Moore has a prosperous business, a comfortable home, a stable family life in a quiet town. Then, on an ordinary night, his teenage son Keith babysits Amy Giordano, the eight-year-old daughter of a neighboring family. The next morning Amy is missing, and Eric isn't sure his son is innocent.
In his desperate attempt to hold his family together by proving his-and the community's-suspicions wrong, Eric finds himself in a vortex of doubt and broken trust. What should he make of Keith's strange behavior? Of his wife's furtive phone calls to a colleague? Of his brother's hints that he knows things he's afraid to say?
In a "heart-wrenching and gut-wrenching" (New York Daily News) race against time and mistrust, Eric must discover what has happened to Amy Giordano and face the long-buried family secrets he has so carefully ignored.

A Great Look At Family During Crisis.......2007-10-06
I really enjoyed this book. It does a terrific job of showing the full range of emotions that a family goes through when faced with an unimaginable crisis. The book is well written, and I plan to look at the other books by this author. Money well spent!
WOW.......2007-04-03
When I started the book, i first saw that his prose was great. His style is very engaging. It did seem to be a little slow, and a little too dark for me. But i wanted to find out what was going to happen.
this is one of the best books i have read in a very long time.
My only gripe is that it is too sad, too pessimistic.
Fall in love with this book, too!.......2007-03-07
I definitely DISAGREE with the reviewers who have decided to put spoilers of this book on a review page (where people have not read book), especially when the things they are saying are simply not true. They are making assumptions and that's a shame, because this book is the best book I've read this year (and in a long while - and I read a book a week).
Red Leaves is gripping from the opening pages and continues to rip at your heartstrings throughout. Cook has presented a family here, very modern in their interactions (or lack of), and we see scene after scene of writing that is both haunting and beautiful at the same time. This is a crime story, but more importantly, it is about the human condition. I found the characters to be very likeable, but more importantly, I found them to be REAL. That's huge in this book. The writing is also both crisp (like red leaves) and conversational, and you should be able to rip through these pages in a few days at most. The ending was very satisfying as I was afraid that it wouldn't live up to the first 2/3 of the book. I also found that it left a little bit of mystery of some of the pieces of the puzzle.
All in all, an awesome book. This is my first Thomas C. Cook, so I cannot compare it to other writings of his. All I can say, is that I will definitely read more.
Cook- Lite.......2007-02-05
I love most of Cook's books, and his ability to weave two stories in one book, simultaneously, is impressive. His stories are always page-turners, however, Red Leaves is like a diet version of Cook. Less calories but also less flavor.
There are several flaws:
1. Neither the parents nor the babysitter looked in on the little girl.
2. If Keith was such a sulky, suspicious boy, WHY did the parents ever trust him to babysit?
3. The real kidnapper leaves cigarette butts outside the victim's window and that doesn't immediately solve the case?
I finished the book in 2 sittings. It was interesting, hence the 3 stars, but this story was just too implausible. It is not Cook at his best. The characters are simply dull. You can't sympathize with the accused. You can't even feel bad about all the unecessary injustices because the story is just not as convincing as the drama it unfolds could be.
Disappointing.......2007-01-05
The plot line is saddled with too many difficult to accept aspects and the character development is in two cases, father and son, inconsistent.
Not worth the time invested.

Great suspense, with a great twist.......2007-05-20
Paullina Simons delivers a tense, suspenseful story, full of dark undertones and nice plot twists. We meet Kristina and get to know her before her untimely death, helping the reader connect and care about why she was murdered. You feel the frustration and sadness right along with Spencer, the lead detective, as he tries to unravel the lies, half-truths, and explosive surprises that tremor below the surface of Ivy League Dartmouth College.
Paullina Simons is the best!.......2006-10-05
I am in awe,yet again,of Paullina's writing. This book hooks you on page one- makes you care about the characters and long for more once the book is over. Like other Paullina Simons' books- this is a dark book- don't expect a cheerful, happy ending. Still, a wonderful mystery with twists and turns through the entire book.
Recommended.......2006-04-13
In this story, a Kristina, a 21 year old Dartmouth student, is found murdered in the woods on campus. Survived by 3 friends who all seem to have something to hide, Detective Spencer O'Malley tries to uncover the truth about Kristina's death, her relationship with her friends, and her past. This is a good story, suspensful and easy to read. The personal attachment between O'Malley and the victim make the story more disturbing. I found the story to be a bit far fetched at some point, but still credible. Recommended.
Riveting novel!.......2005-07-29
This is one of the few books this summer where I found that I just couldn't put down. This is an engrossing novel filled with twists and turns that it leaves the reader anxious to know what happened till the final page has been turned. Even then, the story still haunts the reader.
This novel focuses on four friends ~ Kristina, a beautiful basketball player, Conni, her former roommate, Jim, her boyfriend and Albert, Conni's boyfriend. Kristina is found dead and the novel focuses on the unraveling of secrets among the four friends. It is a chilling portrayal of three human beings who are indifferent to the fact that their friend is dead. It's a creepy novel ~~ with dark undertones. The dark undertones has to do with apathy and indifference of another human being's plight in life or in Kristina's case, death. Cossetted and spoiled, these undergraduates in a priviledged college fought the investigator in the murder case in his attempts to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding Kristina's death.
This book will creep you out ~~ it will annoy you because Simons shows the worst of human nature. It will leave you twisting in your seat as you think of one scenario or another till you are ended up with surprises that you didn't think of. It is a riveting book ~~ perfect for those lazy summer days at the beach or sitting in your hammock. If you're looking for an intense suspense novel ~~ this one would be it!

Once I start reading this book, I couldn't put it down. It was so full of mysterious twist and turns. I also read "Tully" by Paulina Simons. But I think this book was much better.

I never read the book but I saw the episode on TV. Cleo ,
T-bone, and Clifford all were making leave piles. Only T-bone didn't jump in his because, he had to go play fetch with Sheriff Louis. Clifford was extremely tempted and jumped in them. They scattered all over the island. The went all over the island and got them back. They put them back in the yard and waited. Clifford was still tempted, but didn't jump. When T-bone got back they gathered more leaves and added them to the pile. Then they all jumped in it. When they asked T-bone how his game of fetch was he said pretty good. They said they had a pretty good game of fetch too, which was getting back the leaves!Only they didn't tell T-bone. You'll like watching it on TV and I hope you will like the book

Book Description
Possession and loss, rapture and despair: David St. John's narrator in this dazzling collection of poems remains unflinchingly aware that the trajectory between these two states is both brief and irresistible. Like modern Dante's Virgil, he guides us through a mosaic ofexperiences to depict the vast architecture of erotic desire and communion. The sexual bond, with its potential for the breakdown of all spiritual and physical boundaries between two formerly separate beings, becomes the site of almost unbearable psychological and erotic tension that runs throughout the collection. The Red Leaves of Nightfinds its breathtaking power in a recognition of the necessary impermanence of such communion, and gives voice to that most courageous of modern men--one who grasps the dangers of ecstasy yet cannot turn away.

Got poetry?.......2000-04-15
These meditations on sexual intimacy, memories of love & desire, the passage of daily and historical time, color, place, and language are both devastatingly beautiful and raw in their emotion. St. John deals in abstractions, but I would not call him an abstract poet. Perhaps you could call it invention, perhaps it is metaphor or alchemy - he is toying with the line between the concrete and the abstract. _The Red Leaves of Night_ begs the question of when a detail - the color of a woman's clothing or the tune she hums - is concrete and when it becomes a mere thought, an abstraction. Ultimately, St. John suggests that concrete and abstract are two sides of the same coin - that every word and every object has the potential to be (or to signify) both, though that potential is neither neutral nor safe.
lovely and lyric.......2000-04-14
This book was gorgeous. I immediately slid into his perception of places and relationships; his tone and language flowed well and were easy to follow, including everything from contractions in "Nocturnes & Aubades" to a faintly antiquated tone in "Troubadour." The naked body does not inhibit him, either; his descriptions mythologize the natural beauty of the nude. Also, in a contemporary sense, his choice to leave out punctuation for several poems is brave, for he does it well. I only wish I could form poems as lovely as his. Even though the title poem leads the reader "to some newly solitary / & distant home," the journey there is worth it.
Sensual Captivation.......2000-04-11
I found David St John's The Red Leaves of Night to be a captivating and stimulating read - both in its thematic sophistication and elegance of language. St John shows a capacity for precise and economic use of language which results in a clarity which fully reveals the strength of his poetic imagery. This strength manifests most clearly in the many sensual metaphors which he uses to describe the human body. These wonderful images accumulate throughout the collection and their highly visual nature makes the poems come alive with images of the naked bodies which populate the text. The poems impressed me with their thematic sophistication, the clarity with which they expressed ideas, the intimacy of their detail and the honest nakedness of the subject matter. The Red Leaves of Night is a collection of immediate, passionate and powerful poetry.
Patron Saint of Contemporary Poetry.......2000-04-11
David St. John's "The Red Leaves of Night" is a must-read for all lovers of sensual, intellectual, and entertaining poetry. St. John's use of language is simply elegant while his descriptions are vivid and tangible enough to transform the text into a picture book. As he writes in the poem "Music", "It became my passion to explain everything/ With music even the randomness of starlight or death" we as readers plead for more lessons because we know he is speaking the truth! David St. John's collection is a modern example of what poetry is and what it can truly be!
Language in love with mystery........1999-04-22
St. John is one of our masters, and The Red Leaves of Night is a gift to all readers of poetry who believe in the power of language to enact desire, embody mystery, and restore wonder. The sequence of Aubades and Nocturnes is dazzling; the final section of the book is very nearly transporting.

Book Description
Another moving, emotional tale in the Navy Series from New York Times bestselling author
Debbie Macomber.
Erin MacNamera had one hard and fast rule: never, never, never fall for a navy man. But, from the heart-stopping moment her eyes met Lieutenant Brandon Davis's across a crowded lounge, Erin knew life would never be the same. Sexy, tender and strong, Brandon was all she'd ever dreamed of in a man, but he was also navy -- and as a navy brat from way back, she knew better than to give her heart to a seafaring man.
When an old friend asked Brand to look up his eldest daughter, he never dreamed Erin would turn out to be a stubborn beauty who resisted him at every turn. Couldn't she see that they were meant for each other? When Brand was called to duty, it gave him the perfect opportunity to teach his sweet Irish rose a thing or two about navy men -- and love . . .

Just Plain Brat-I Mean BAD! ...or both.......2007-04-08
I was willing to give this book a chance, even after I had read the reviews at Amazon, but it was a big disappointment from an author I respect.
From the very first page I couldn't get into it. It started to get a little better around page 40 or so, then soon after it started to go downhill. I have to agree with a previous reviewer, tedious is right. Brand was a decent hero, but I lost respect for him towards the middle and definitely by the end. Why he could even love her is beyond me, there just wasn't much to her. Also, the many references to Erin as the Irish rose, Irish eyes, etc., were just irritating. Erin was, as the title aptly says, a brat. I couldn't like her and her weak excuses got old...fast. She seemed delusional, actually believing her so-called reasons for not being with Brand. You really wanted to smack her, or at least I did.
I felt that the book was way too long, at least 50 pages too much. Maybe it would have been a decent book if it had been 200 pages instead of 290. The ending was abrupt, for such a long, and I mean excruciatingly long, build-up, and really unbelievable. It was astonishing.
I plead with you not to read this book, please please please, a total waste of time when there are far better books out there.
Whiney and Boring!.......2007-03-21
This book was 300 pages of girl meets navy boy. Girl doesn't want relationship with navy boy, because he's navy. Boy wants girl. Girl won't budge...he's navy (did I mention that already????). Girl falls in love with navy boy but knows it won't work...because he's navy. Girl tells boy goodbye, because he's navy. Boy pursues girl, but she says no, cuz he's still friggin navy.
Gimme a break!!!!!! I can't believe a publisher paid this author for this crap.
Repetitive.......2005-03-31
I liked this book even though it tended to be very repetitive. The dialogue between the two main characters seemed to go on and on and on. Also, after hearing Erin complain throughout the entire book about the fact that Brandon was "navy", I was waiting for a great ending. I felt as though the author got tired of the book herself and just ended it too abruptly. All in all, I did enjoy the book simply because it was light and airy and ended on a happy note.
Tedious.......2004-04-06
I generally enjoy any kind of romance with a military theme and the cover of this book quickly caught my eye. It's unfortunate, because I endured 297 pages of boredom in order to get to the anti-climatic finish.
The "heroine" of the tale, Erin MacNamera is a bland character with very few redeeming qualities. Forced to grow up as a navy brat, she refuses to engage in a relationship with a wonderful man simply because he is in the military. She is petty, spiteful, and rude in her quest to drive him away.
My biggest problem with the story is the fact that the author conveys an attitude that growing up as a military brat is a prison sentence. She fails to mention the plethora of benefits there are to being a military dependent. Most children of military tend to be outgoing, culturally sensitive, broadly educated and adventurous.
This is the first book I've read by this author and it will also be the last.
Navy Brat - Apt Description.......2004-01-23
The title is apt. The lead character is, in fact, an undeserving brat who meets a wonderful lieutenant jg. However, she doesn't want a relationship with the guy because he's in the military and she cherishes the stability of not having to move as his tours of duty change. She behaves miserably towards him. One would only hope that the lieutenant would meet someone better. The book is a frustrating and shallow read, in part, because the lead character generates absolutely no sympathy. Try again Ms. Macomber. You can do better.
