Book Description

Milk Glass Moon, the third book in Adriana Trigiani's bestselling Big Stone Gap series, continues the life story of Ave Maria Mulligan MacChesney as she faces the challenges and changes of motherhood with her trademark humor and honesty. With twists as plentiful as those found on the holler roads of southwest Virginia, this story takes turns that will surprise and enthrall the reader.

Transporting us from Ave Maria's home in the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Italian Alps, from New York City to the Tuscan countryside, Milk Glass Moon is the story of a shifting mother-daughter relationship, of a daughter's first love and a mother's heartbreak, of an enduring marriage that contains its own ongoing challenges, and of a community faced with seismic change.

All of Trigiani's beloved characters are back: Jack Mac, Ave Maria's true love, who is willing to gamble security for the unknown; her best friend and confidant, bandleader Theodore Tip-ton, who begins a new life in New York City; librarian and sexpert Iva Lou Wade Makin, who faces a life-or-death crisis. Meanwhile, surprises emerge in the blossoming of crusty cashier Fleeta Mullins, the maturing of mountain girl turned savvy businesswoman Pearl Grimes, and the return of Pete Rutledge, the handsome stranger who turned Ave Maria's world upside down in Big Cherry Holler.

In this rollicking hayride of upheaval and change, Ave Maria is led to places she never dreamed she would go, and to people who enter her life and rock its foundation. As Ave Maria reaches into the past to find answers to the present, readers will stay with her every step of the way, rooting for the onetime town spinster who embraced love and made a family. Milk Glass Moon is about the power of love and its abiding truth, and captures Trigiani at her most lyrical and heartfelt.

Great book! Author is awesome. First time reading her books & really enjoyed the triology.

I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY STEPMOTHER AND AUNT. THEY BOTH LIKE HER BOOKS REALLY WELL.

5 out of 5 stars Milk Glass Moon.......2007-02-11

I have loved all of the Big Stone Gap Novels - "Milk Glass Moon" is the third in this series which will charm anyone who enjoys a kind of "down home" story, as we journey through life with Ave Maria, her husband,Jack, and their daughter, Etta, and all their friends in Big Stone Gap. I call this one of my "feel good" books (Please note, I feel the same way about Fannie Flagg's books) - you want to pack up and move to Big Stone Gap and be a part of their lives.

5 out of 5 stars The third book in the "Big Stone Gap" quartet.......2006-09-09

After following the troubled MacChesney marriage in the second book, readers now focus on the adolescent Etta as she struggles with growing up. Her mother Ave Maria, too, has difficulty allowing her daughter this passage, especially after losing her toddler son Joe to leukemia.

Yet, like her mother, Etta promises to become a strong young woman. This doesn't make the MacChesneys any easier, though, when longtime family friend Stefano Grassi comes to visit from Italy...

This book is the second of the "Big Stone Gap" quartet; the fourth book is scheduled for release at the end of October 2006.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!.......2006-05-24

Like the 2 previous novels about Big Stone Gap and the MacChesney, I love this one too! I am glad to see that there is another book, The Return to Big Stone Gap, coming out in September.

Book Description

A New York Times Notable Book, Mother’s Milk is a brilliantly stylish and witty novel by a master of modern British fiction. Widely acclaimed in the United States and the UK, Mother’s Milk follows the Melroses, the same family featured in St. Aubyn’s trilogy, Some Hope. First we meet Robert, who provides an exceptionally droll and convincing account of being born; then Patrick, a hilariously churlish husband who has been sexually abandoned by his wife in favor of motherhood; then Mary, who’s consumed by her children and an overwhelming desire not to repeat the mistakes of her own mother. All the while, St. Aubyn examines the web of false promises that entangles this once illustrious family, whose last vestige of wealth—an estate in the South of France—is about to be permanently donated by Patrick’s mother to a new-age foundation. The result is captivating and unexpected.

3 out of 5 stars A love hate relationship with this book.......2007-08-08

I liked this book and hated it. I doidn't like the father figure, I felt he used his depression as an excuse to be cruel to his family. A selfish indivual, who blamed all his problems on his mother. The children where delightful characters. The language was wonderful, and a delight to read. The imagagry at the beginning sucked me right in and it was the langugage that kept me reading the book. I did prefer The Night Watch. (By Sarah Waters)

3 out of 5 stars What a slog.........2007-07-17

It is odd perhaps that I would describe this short novel as a "slog," but there it is. While reading it, I spent a lot of time complaining to family and friends about the hateful, annoying novel I was reading. It started out particularly bad. The first section is written from the perspective of the family's five year old. I have to say, I really don't think this guy can write kids, or maybe he was trying to imagine what it would be like to describe the thoughts of a child in very adult language - I dunno. All I can say is it was excessively annoying.

Things get a little better when the perspectives of the adults take over, particularly the pathetic and eternally unsatisfied father and husband, Patrick. Now, I will be honest. What really got to me about this novel is its unrelenting cynicism. I know that other reviewers describe this as 'acerbic wit,' but for me it was just too much. Each and every character is loathesome. Each and every aspect of their lives is a bore and a chore. Now I am a single woman, so I guess I might have to admit that reading about the discontents of married people brings some amount of satisfaction. And in fact, Patrick could be quite amusing in his rants and raves (there were probably not enough of these). Also, I should add that NO ONE dislikes excessive earnestness more than me, but this novel, as I said, was unrelenting. And do I really need to hear multiple descriptions of how disgusting fat people are? I mean, that just comes off as snobbish and unkind, not really witty. And who can't find something good to eat in New York??

As many times as I was tempted to put down this book forever, I didn't - mainly because I have a compulsion that does not allow me to stop reading a book early. But despite this, the book did win me over in a certain way, and its author is a skilled writer, even if he sees no goodness in life, love, family, or any of New York's myriad restaurants. My advice to you? If I were being honest I would say - life is short, go read the Iliad or something. But if you dislike your spouse and regret having children and really hate your mother, you might enjoy it!

3 out of 5 stars Well Written but been there seen that story Arc.........2007-07-08

This is an enjoyable book to read as it is very well written full or wit and lots of clever metaphors and descriptions.. I enjoyed it.
However, although it is entertaining, it's story structure is predictable and has been done before, though I guess nothing is really new.

Despite this I would still recommend reading this book just because the descriptions are so delicious.

4 out of 5 stars More on dysfunctional families - well written but nothing special.......2007-06-17

The British love writing about dysfunctional families - there are dozens of good literary novels published each year about them - and if not for the fact that Edward St. Aubyn's book was shortlisted for the 2006 Man Booker Prize, it wouldn't have stood out as an obvious pick The secret torments of the Melroses aren't particularly exceptional or interesting. Fact is, they're all a little messed up in the head because they had dads or mums who didn't do the right thing by them when they were little. By implication, their own kids will some day grow up similarly afflicted. The problem with reading books like these is that with somebody - a parent or better still, society at large- to blame, we are encouraged not to take responsibility for our own actions. And so it goes on.

Be that as it may, "Mother's Milk" is indeed a very well written book. We dwell in the heads of each character merry-go-round style and let their interior monologue reveal their inner most feelings and frustrations to us. Of the lot, I found Mary's voice the most sympathetic and truest. A woman fighting a losing battle against the demands of motherhood is universal and a phenomenon most people can identify with. However, Patrick's spiraling resentment at losing his place in Mary's bed to his kids, his mother Eleanor's bizarre determination to disinherit him and leave her property to some New Age cause, his descent into self-pity and response by mooning about, getting drunk on the beach and making out with his friend Julia, etc only seems like childish petulance and grows increasingly tiresome. I also had problems with the voices of the two boys, Robert and Thomas - they're far too old for their ages and therefore lack credibility. Kettle, Mary's high society mother may seem like an obvious caricature but she's believable and explains Mary's obsession with becoming everything she's not. Even poor Eleanor's crankiness may be explained by her own past. The best part of the book for me was Chapter 4 - about the family's never again holiday with Josh Packer and his posh family - the antics of these nouveau riche are a scream !

If you're into books of this genre, you will enjoy "Mother's Milk". If not, there's nothing too special here that should make this a must-read. If only the Man Booker Prize nominating committee would be more daring in its choice of new titles for the award. I haven't read it yet but fellow nominee M J Hyland's "Carry Me Down" promises to be another one from this same genre.

4 out of 5 stars The Melrose family holidays.......2007-03-22

Edward St Aubyn is a terriffic writer. Mother's Milk is a good novel, though not a brilliant one. It's themes are familiar - dysfunctional family life, the burdens of wealth and privilege, mid life crises galore, though St Aubyn is a fresh and talented enough stylist with a gift for realistic characterisation and turn of phrase to invest them with new life.

The novel is a curiously fragmented journey through a few years of the Melrose family life, mostly covering periods when they are on holiday in France and, subsequently, America after Patrick's senile mother gives away the family home in France to a new age charlatan. St Aubyn's descriptions of wealthy families in decline are sublime. His style is redolent of the fragile, waspish Evelyn Waugh of 'A Handful of Dust', comparing wealthy people to 'the shrill pea in the whistle of their possessions' for instance. St Aubyn, being a member of the decaying British gentry himself, is perfectly positioned to observe the caustic snobberies and hypocricies of his characters.

He is also redolent of Christopher Isherwood, in camera mode, though St Aubyn's precise camera moves viewpoint. The book opens bizzarely with an account of Patrick's son, Robert, who remembers his birth: 'Why had they pretended to kill him when he was born? Keeping him awake for days, banging his head again and again against a closed cervix'. Through the novel the focus shifts to Patrick, whose mid life crisis, his affair with his girlfriend of old, Julia, his sexual abandonment by his wife, his selfish desire for solitude and neglect of his family duties is brilliantly done. Then we hear from Mary, who, in compensating for her own abandonment in childhood by her mother, Kettle, makes up for it by sacrificing her own existence in her selfless desire to be a good mother.

St Aubyn is a writer very much concerned to be original, and he does this by focussing on the few areas of existence not covered by words. Hence childbirth; hence, at the other extreme, advanced old age. The final sections when Patrick's mother requests to be taken to Switzerland for assisted suicide is heart rending, with her crumbling dialogue and wasting body brought alive with precision on the page. These make for interesting sections, away from the standard domestic drama pieces of Patrick's facetious attitude towards life.

As a result of paying attention to these semi-conscious zones of existence, however, the narrative suffers from jumpiness, characters move about without clear explanation. As other reviewers have mentioned, the form perhaps suffers as St Aubyn shoehornes in another immaculate riff on, say, obesity in America, or a Wildesqe aphorism from the mouth of Patrick. The children, Robert and Thomas, are understandably articulate, but from the dialogue St Aubyn gives them they come across as freakish prodigies. This is unrealistic, though perhaps understandable, since the author's tragic childhood meant he must have grown up almost at double speed.

Currently St Aubyn is a great talent of which he is not yet in full control, a tributary in search of a river. I predict a great novel somewhere down the line, when he harnesses his considerable abilities and better balances all the teetering aspects of the human condition he currently grapples with.

5 out of 5 stars Complex Human Characters.......2002-05-26

This novel should be getting a lot of attention. I don't understand why it isn't. Unlike so many novels, the characters in this book are as complex as anyone you might know. The past and the present sit on the characters' shoulders, each pressing powerfully - often in opposite directions. This is a remarkable book, understated and yet somehow lush. In the hands of most authors it would turn sentimental, but Hammond scrupulously avoids sentimentality and finds instead a dark, compelling, and powerfully human reality.

5 out of 5 stars Poignant.......2002-01-16

I'm quite surprised there are no other reviews of this book. I stumbled upon this book accidentally and after opening to the first page, voraciously read it, in record speed. Hammond leads you through this troubled and profound time for Theo with great skill. The writing is fluid and descriptive and often humorous, yet leaves you wondering at the same time. The book is not ABOUT suicide, but rather the aftermath of a difficult, but not insurmountable, childhood. It is not a "Poor-me,-I-had-a-bad-childhood" book, but rather a success story of discovering, understanding and then attempting to overcome "bad things" in your past. As with a lot of books, the end came too quickly and I wanted more.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars 3 & 1/2 stars; imperfect but good.......2005-02-27

This is my first book by Patricia Rice. It was good enough that I'll try more, probably from this series, but it took me some time to become comfortable with the world she had created. perhaps reading the previous books in the series first might have made a difference.

Christina is a likeable, quirky heroine, albeit rather spoiled and selfish early on. She learns, however, and does some growing up over the course of the book. Harry is a great hero--a happy-go-lucky, even-tempered man who becomes sullen and tempermental after the dukedom and penury are forced upon him. Christina brings humor and joy to his life, and through her and the discovery of the truth about his situation, Harry begins to revert to his loveable, but now more responsible, self.

The book is humorous and interesting, with some ghosts acting as important secondary characters. Christina's family is something as well. There's s bit of suspense with a murderer on the loose. All in all, a very good book. Had I been more comfortable, rather than feeling like I was floundering, early in the book, I might have rated it 4 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! My First Patricia Rice Read!.......2004-08-21

Wow, wow, wow is all I can say. I normally don't read historical romance, but this one came up as book of the month for a reading club I belong to. After reading this, I have ordered the rest of the Magic Series right here at Amazon!
This story revolves around Christina Malcom, a woman who can read auras around people, and can see and talk to ghosts. She is betrothed at a young age to Harry Winchester who as a young man is suddendly thrust into the role of Duke of Sommerville after the mysterious death of his father and brother. He finds out that his father left the estate heavily in debt, and to begin digging out of it, he marries Christina before their agreed upon date to get her dowry to make a down payment on the mortgage he father had supposedly taken out to finance his constant building on their Sommerville manor.
When he whisks Christina away to the manor, there are secret passages, ghosts in mirrors, and all kinds of supernatural things happening...or are there???
A great read...I couldn't put it down. Taking 7 hours out to sleep, and 7.5 hours to work, I read this 376 page book in a space of 24 hours! Worth the time investment!

4 out of 5 stars exhilarating paranormal Georgian romance .......2004-08-03

In the latter half of the eighteenth century, as a second son Lord Harry never expected to inherit the estate, but when his father and his older brother die in a brutal accidental fall, he becomes the duke of Sommersville. He also is bequeathed with a large debt and the probability that the estate will go to the major marker holder the odious Carthage. A desperate Harry knows that his hedonistic lifestyle is over and he must marry his long time fiancée the lovely, wealthy, but odd Christina Malcolm Childe if he is to save the estate.

Christina can see ghosts and read auras. She is horrified that her beloved Harry has gone from the wonderful happy yellow and purple to the detestable brown and blue. She agrees to wed Harry, but insists he give her time to adapt because she plans to find the Harry she loves not this angry shell. As she begins to save Harry's soul and he recognizes how much he loves Christina, treachery will leave both on the brink of death unless Harry heeds her advice received from his loved ones in the beyond.

THIS MAGIC MOMENT is an exhilarating paranormal Georgian romance starring a hurting venomous male and a fabulous heroine risking all for her love. Though the villain seems unlikely, Christina makes the tale with her ESP skills and her heroics. Fans of Ms. Rice's "magical" tales know that this awesome author always provides all a reader wants in a novel.

5 out of 5 stars This Magic Tale.......2007-04-08

This Magic Moment brings you the story of Pierce Atkins, a magician, and Ryan Swan, the producer of his live television special. Ryan is a strong, independent woman, yet left vulnerable from her past and her relationship with her father. Pierce is a loner with his own eccentricities and scarred past. When these two meet there is an undercurrent of attraction that is just waiting to explode...and explode it does! Together Pierce and Ryan bring sparks of passion and moments of loving tenderness. Their feelings and actions ring true to who they are and their story is more then completely satisfying. You almost don't want it to end, you get to love these characters so much. Link and Bess are two enchanting secondary characters that I would have enjoyed reading about in their own book, but I enjoyed the way it turned out. Nora Roberts weaves her magic in this tale written in the '80's that still feels modern and not at all dated. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend any Nora fan to see for themselves and enjoy the magic!

2 out of 5 stars Magic? More of an Illusion.......2005-04-08

This earlier attempt by Nora Roberts just misses the mark of excellence, and falls to below average. It seems as if she's not sure the direction she wants this book to take and the results are not up to what I've come to expect from this fantastic author.

Pierce is a mysterious magician who not only keeps his performance secrets closed from everyone, but he also closes everybody out from his personal life. Ryan comes into his life and not only shatters that wall of privacy Pierce has built around himself, but worms her way into his heart as well.

While reading this, I had mental visions of David Copperfield crossed with a modern-day mad scientist living in a dark, remote castle. The characters and scenes seemed to evoke images of other stories we've all read sometime in our youth. One example is the Great Houdini Escape illusion that so many have tried and failed to complete. Another example is the dark castle with Igor as Frankenstein's only true friend - yep, there's a couple of scenes that reminded me of these taken from long ago movies and books. These occurrences are included in the story and unfortunately are done so with no flare or vigorous changes. They left me feeling "been there, done that".

If you're looking for a feel good romance with little or no originality then you'll love this book. If you're looking for something new and dynamic then steer clear of this one! I'd only recommend this for those needing to finish a book and say, "Ah, wasn't that nice..."

3 out of 5 stars Not her best work.......2004-03-06

While I did enjoy "This Magic Moment", I found it to be a bit boring compared to some of NR other offerings. Ryan and Pierce were not as exciting as some of her other characters, but it was a good read for the most part.

4 out of 5 stars Intriguing "Roarke-like" Magician Makes This Book Great!.......2002-03-07

Ryan Swan (the book's lovely heroine), is a television producer hoping to sign the mysterious magician Pierce Atkins to do a live magic show. He agrees, but only if she handles the details herself, meaning lots of quality time together. The character of Pierce reminds me strongly of Roarke in Nora's other series, the J.D. Robb books. Like Roarke, Pierce has had a hard knock life and he has a very mysterious quality too. Pierce and Ryan's relationship is troubled because of the dangerous stunts he performs in his act, but Pierce refuses to give them up.
Excerpt from the back of the book:
"Abracadabra! For this one moment, Ryan Swan, you will believe in magic... If only she could. But how was Ryan ever to know if the love of mysterious magician Pierce Atkins was real enough to last a lifetime or just an illusion she'd conjured up herself? She'd just have to read the message in his eyes...
Pierce had a lot of tricks up his sleeve-and he needed all his skill in magic to get his message across to skeptical Ryan. But a message of love has a powerful magic all its own..."

3 out of 5 stars Magic in the Hills Around L.A........2006-09-05

Pierce Atkins was considered the greatest magician, some said the absolute best of the last half of this century. His illusions and escapes were daring, flashy, and unexplainable. Some experts called him a wizard like Merlin. He lived in a rambling gray solitary house on a cliff facing the Pacific only 150 miles north of Los Angeles. High at the top of a winding road with a background of an angry sky, the house was both magnificent and errie. He owned a large black myna bird named Merlin, who liked to say "nevermore."

He read Ryan like a book using amateur psychology and an understanding of body language. A parlor game or telepathy? Illusions take more than skill, he explained. They take a great deal of planning and preparation. Their first meeting was somewhat startling for both.

If you believe in magic, it was (perhaps) love at first sight. But Ryan had qualms about the mysterious magician and wondered if he only pretended. Appearances are often deceiving. Was the mutual attraction enough to be eternal or a fleeting illusion she had conjured up. He enjoyed watching people react, but Ryan was his match in every way. "I have a few tricks up my sleeve," she'd said, "You haven't seen anything yet." She turned out to be a priestess or witch, take your pick.

4 out of 5 stars Timeless.......2006-06-25

When I said old-school Nora, I meant it. This book was published in 1983, but aside from a few little things (who wears teddys and stockings anymore?) you'd never know it. Nora is as timeless as love itself. Nora's heroes are often so damn nice, but this guy had some mystery and rage going on too, so it was a good switch. If you're into illusions or magic at all, you'll have a great time with this book. Hooray for Nora!

4 out of 5 stars Almost Five stars.......2006-04-09

This book combines the appeal of the wounded, silent hero, who has chosen to press on and not cut himself off, but be a selfless friend, while battling his demons alone.

Only to find the poor little rich girl, who is NOT the spoilt brat. It's very appealing that they do not have him making the mistake of thinking that she is just a spoilt brat. Insted, they both click on to each other's vulnerabilities and are drawn despite both having some impressively high walls built up.

It's unusual because the hero 'feels' like he is the most isolated, but as you read you realize that it is hte heroine who has truly carved out a lonely life for herself.

It is quiet, but sly. The humor peeks out at you, unexpected among these two somber souls, but giving you these delightful hints of what they could be if their walls were erected.

Then of course Nora also uses one of my favorites, forcing the hero reject and then suffer the full extent of his arrogance in thinking that he can turn down love in order to keep his life safe.

I'm not giving the story away, but there are a host of delightful side characters, a truly irrepressible raven and a big lug who will tug at you.

It's been on my shelf for 20 years and will never get thrown away.

4 out of 5 stars The road leads to love........2001-07-24

When a beloved rogue of an Uncle passes away an estranged couple heading towards divorce, and the worst mistake of their lives, must make an extended road trip to carry out his final request. Everything that can go wrong does. And everything that can go right does as well. Lynda Simmons has a gift for bringing even the most sidelined of characters to three dimensional life, which makes her story all the richer. The love between the main characters is bittersweet and, for it to once again become strong, both must learn to except and embrace what they think makes each so different from the other. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars the best book you will read in your life.......1999-01-21

this book is the best book i have ever read. it depicts people of african descent in the most positive light that i have ever read about. mr. harris whom my mother had the opportunty to meet has done a wonderful job in this book. i have recommended it to all of my friends and i recommend it to you. if you like adventure, romance, action, intrigue, then this book should be number one on your list to buy. the best part about this book is that though it is listed as fiction it could really happen. it will make you open you eyes to the things that are going on around the world. things that you probably would not have exposure to. keep an open mind and a open heart and you will love the books and especially the characters in the book. "to only have the chance to live in their lives for one day." what they do in a day some of you never do in a lifetime. enjoy!!

Available again for the first time in a decade!

Three riveting classics from the incomparable mistress of romantic suspense:

This Magic Moment He was a master of illusion. For Ryan Swan, who'd learned never to give her trust, Pierce Atkins was the last man to whom she should give her heart. But in Pierce's enthralling presence all her defenses seemed to vanish like magic.

Search for Love Arriving at her long-lost family's Brittany estate, Serenity Smith was greeted with cold politeness by enigmatic Christophe de Kergallen . . . until her fiery temperament melted the aloof aristocrat's icy reserve and inflamed his passion.

The Right Path When the knife-wielding mystery man she'd encountered on the beach one night turned out to be wealthy Nicholas Gregoras, how could spirited Morgan James's very natural suspicions withstand the consuming desire ignited by his kiss?

5 out of 5 stars Not So Mysterious, but Still Good.......2007-04-08

Mysterious is a reissue of three older books Nora Roberts wrote in the 80's. While not her best, the first two are pretty good and the last one is just okay.

      This Magic Moment

      4.5/5 stars

      Search for Love

Search for Love is about Serenity Smith, a woman who has just lost her parents, then travels from Washington D.C. to France to meet with her grandmother, whom she'd never known. There she meets Christophe de Kergallen, the Count of Kergallen, whose grandfather married Serenity's grandmother after they were both widowed with children.

While Serenity is a fiery, vibrant, stubborn woman, Christophe is an icy, arrogant, and equally stubborn man. Serenity's independence and spunk makes her a fine heroine who you'll love, Christophe on the other hand can be hard to deal with, you'll either love him or hate him. At times you want to smack this hero with how smug and overbearing he can be and you can feel the frustration Serenity feels while dealing with Christophe. But through the story sparks fly as these two try to deny the passion they feel for one another. The secondary characters are great and I hope to see them in another book or two.

Though this story is quite different from Nora Roberts usual tales, it still packs quite a punch and you can see how diverse she is in her talent. This is more a gothic tale than any of her others I have read. As a gothic tale, it is one of the best, as a Nora Roberts, while not her best, it is a very solid tale that is timeless. It may not be for everyone, but I'd say give it a try!
      4/5 stars

      The Right Path

The Right Path tells you the tale of Morgan James, who is visits her friend in Greece while on vacation, and Nicholas Gregoras, a secretive man that lives there. While this is a okay story, it is far from Nora Roberts best. I found the characters lacking, they seemed to be one-dimensional to me, more Nicholas than Morgan but not by much. At times I found my attention wandering from the book and had to get my focus back in on it. Usually N.R.'s books' keep me riveted page by page. I think the main thing was that you didn't see how they fell in love, what made them love each other. You could see they had passion, but you didn't really get to know them all that much. The plot was good and it worked out nicely, I just wish there had been better main characters, or at least that they weren't so flat.
      3/5 stars

      4 out of 5 stars Never dissapoints.......2006-08-21

Nora Roberts always delivers & I know when I see her name on it I'm in for an enjoyable read but never a predictable plot.

      4 out of 5 stars Four Stars.......2006-07-03

I was too young to read NR's earlier works so I'm happy that she's been re-releasing them. Although none of the stories were that mysterous they were a nice light read.

      2 out of 5 stars What's the mystery?.......2004-05-22

The mystery is how did Nora Roberts write these books? They are not up to her normal standards. I know they are earlier works, but I have read a lot of other early works by Nora and they have not been this bad. I know that Catherine Coulter rewrites/updates some of her earlier books, then publishes them. I wish Nora would do that with some of hers. She is a great writer, but these stories are so dated. One of the stories reads like a gothic novel from the 1960's. That's OK if it was written in the '60's, but it was written in the '80's! I guess these books were Silhouette Romance "formula" books, so she didn't have a lot of leeway on the format?? Buyer beware!

2 out of 5 stars Not her best writing by far...........2004-03-22

While I thought these three stories were OK...I felt that the author has grown by leaps and bounds with her newer offerings. These stories didn't hold my attention like her current books do. "The Right Path" was the best of the three.
