Book Description

The Publisher claims that we are born into a world controlled by unseen forces that have plagued and manipulated humanity for thousands of years. No, this is no script from a Hollywood movie. It is claimed to be happening to you NOW. You may look around and think that what you see is “real”. But in truth you are living in an illusion - an illusion designed to keep you in a mental, emotional, spiritual prison cell.

David Icke exposes these forces and their methods of human control and he claims to reveal a fantastic web of global manipulation, orchestrated by forces byond this physical realm. He exposes the hidden bloodlines, through which other-dimensional entities live and operate unseen among us; and he claims to show how the bloodlines of the royal, political, and economic rulers of today are the same as those who ruled as the kings and queens of ancient times.

4 out of 5 stars There's something to it..........2007-10-10

It's true, at first glance this book seems like the product of a confused, paranoid and delusional mind... but really, there's something to it. When I first encountered this book 6 years ago, I scoffed at the idea and couldn't believe how insane the ideas presented in it were. But there is a fine line between insanity and genius, after stumbling across this book several more times in the years that followed I came to see much of what this book says as not only being plausable, but probable. Icke is not insane and he is not a con man, he believes in what he is saying and has made quite a few interesting theories in this book. Without a doubt, this world is being controled, whether conciously by some outside nefarious entity/species, or subconciously by our own darker psyche, it is happening, we are slaves.
That said, it IS unlikely that Icke is 100% right in his theories, but he is definitely onto something and he seems to be the only person out there right now that's making such a concerted effort to get this message out there.
Note of warning to anyone thinking of purchasing this book: You may not like what you read, it may scare you. But awareness comes at a price and that price is the realization that what you thought was real was nothing more than a control system.
The most important message that you can get from Icke's book is that we only exist in the condition of slavery that we do because we are tricked into doing so. To put it simply, they only have as much power over us as we have willingly forked over. May sound insane, but hey... there're are plenty of examples out there of people choosing security over freedom, all you have to do is turn on your TV to see that.

Extremely informative, as are all David Icke's Books. Holds your attention. Encourages you to pay closer attention as to what is going on all around you.

5 out of 5 stars 5 for the courage alone. Bravo Icke........2006-06-15

Some people prefer to look at Icke's claims as strickly metaphors (who wouldn't agree that the World's elite are reptilian snakes, evil, and shape-shifters based on their actions?) which is dead on and endlessly relevant - especially these days. And don't forget, Icke has been saying this stuff for almost 15 years, so over that time he has been disturbingly prophetic which just adds to his credibility. Fifteen years ago he could be dismissed as simply a ranting clown, now those of us who have some sort of clue that "things are amiss" are forced to re-evaluate his claims.

On the other hand, there are a growing number of people who prefer to take Icke's writing as totally literal, which obviously, is far too much for most sheeple to accept. The controlling elite with hybrid DNA who are able to shape shift into creatures that look like Reptiles and are somehow directed in their agenda by entities outside of our realm? Say again?! Well, the strange thing is, many other "elite" people have very similar views, who have no interest or connection with Icke. Very similar themes occur in various genres of literature over many hundreds of years. Why is this? Why are the elite so interested in human DNA? Why do we have the R-complex as part of our brains? Why is the story of human evolution (which is what my training orginally was in) so murky, corrupt and political? Why won't "Atlantis" go away (even Plato wrote about its existence in literal terms)? Why is quantum physics, holographic and string theories now providing framework for the existence of other dimensions and realms beyond our normal senses? Why don't we realize that we perceive with our 5 senses only 1% of the known light / sound spectrum (which is less than cats and dogs, by the way)? Why is the UFO community so convoluted and seemingly infiltrated? Why all the talk and "whistle-blowing" regarding underground caverns, bases, and even cities? I don't claim to know... One thing I do know is that prior to reading Icke, the events that endlessly unfold in the World seemed so mysterious, unrelated, random, pointless, maddening, disheartening, etc. But Icke's ideas really do de-mystify and explain a great many things that have occurred and continue to occur, albeit in a way that literally challenges you to redefine your reality. Unfortunately, post-Icke, the World appears to me more evil, maddening, and scary, which are themes that he tries to address and quell in his most recent works.

Never mind the typos in this book, it's Icke very controversial ideas (many of which are borrowed and pieced together) that are worth the price, metaphorical or not. And the ultimate value is discovering why you might have such visceral reactions to those ideas. In other words, it's a way of understanding the depth that you might be burried within the Matrix. But, I would suggest that there is a REASON why you read the book, or are reading this and contemplating buying it; follow your instincts not your conditioned knee-jerk reactions.

2 out of 5 stars Terrible .......2006-05-30

Where do I begin ?

Icke has absolutely no idea what he's talking about in this book. He relentlessly mixes facts with fiction to create a rather disturbing cocktail of nonsense for the reader.

Does anyone honestly believe that reptillian beings actually exist in any form other than subconscious manifestations of serpent archetypes ? The fact that NO ONE has actually witnessed a reptillian being publicly speaks volumes about Icke's delusional psyche.

I get the feeling that Icke wrote this book to satisfy peoples curiosity and to feed them what they want to hear. This is Icke's MO as of the biggest secret - mix fact and fiction together to create fear and misdirection at the same time. All the while Icke pockets a princely sum for his overpriced "books" and phony "lectures".

I'm certainly not going to give Icke one penny for this diseased garbage. He should be ashamed of himself for writing such mindless unsupported rubbish.

5 out of 5 stars Political/social dissent literature.......2006-05-06

If a fiction writer actually BELIEVES to be true the fiction he writes, does that free him to write a wilder, more detailed story? Icke proves that it does.

Conspiracy literature is the new literature of dissent. It's not difficult to deconstruct the mythology that Icke has pulled together. The world, he claims, is "secretly" controlled by shape-shifting reptiles who also happen to commit unspeakable crimes against children. Bush, Clinton, and the other world rulers are certainly "reptilian" in that they are cold-blooded men governed by their deeper animal instincts and desires, such as greed and bloodlust. They are "shape-shifters" because they are deceitful, liars, and they cannot be "pinned down" (as if Kerry is the only one who ever "flip-flopped" on an issue).

Our rulers are "snakes." Their policies are the moral equivalent of child molestation, because they starve, bomb, fail to educate, or otherwise oppress most of the world's children.

Icke's ideas (outrageous, of course, on the literal level) provide his readers with a mythology and meta-narrative of the world in an age when traditional mythologies and religions have crumbled. Some of you readers need to get a grip on yourselves. Read properly, David Icke can provide some fascinating LITERARY insights into the world we all live in.

(For some reason I can't edit my review, I can really only give this THREE STARS because of Dave's bad grammar and run-on sentences.)

5 out of 5 stars Best Frame Analysis book I've seen.......2007-09-10

This is a well written and easy to understand book on structural analysis. More advanced than a typical undergraduate book, yet it presents the more advanced material so clearly that it could easily be used for an undergraduate course or a refernce for a practicing engineer.

Don't expect much on plate or solid elements as this is primarily a reference for frame analysis. But, for that topic, it's the best book I've seen and I've seen a lot of them.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......1999-06-08

I had Ziemian's Course on this book at Bucknell as an undergrad. It is a great prelude to advanced CE design, and a great intro to finite element analysis!!!

The Matrix Model provides an innovative, creative, and well-researched method of working with children who exhibit neurological dysfunction, psychiatric disorders, or atypical behaviors; children who otherwise have a high probability of being incarcerated or institutionalized.

5 out of 5 stars A Matrix Model Approach for Children With a Typical Behaviors .......2007-09-13

Having accidentally killed another child when I was 6, I became a child that exhibited all of the signs of one most likely to become incarcerated. I found Dorothy's book an excellent example of many of the methods that actually saved me from killing myself/others or ending up istitutionalized for a very long time. Dorothy is an excellent writer and a very wise woman, I count it a blessing from God himself that she is also my mother!

4 out of 5 stars MidWest Book Review.......2003-07-23

This was a very enlighting, interesting read. As a Counselor I was anxious to see what this book was all about and it was worth my time to read it.
The author works with children who display atypical behaviors due to neurological dysfunction and she has developed what she called "The Matrix Model" method in dealing with these children, that certainly seems to be producing results.
The four elements of this model are: Attachment Disorder, Dyslexia, Multiple Intelligences and The Felenkrais Method.
I will not even try to explain these to you as I could never do them justice, but I will tell you that the author gives case after care of their use and shows the wonderful progress with children that they bring.
As a lover of children my heart went out to these young ones as I read of their trauma, but I rejoiced also at the help that Dorothy Halla-Poe and her wonderful work is doing for them.
If you have b children with these problems, know someone who does, or if you are just interested in help for children, this book is for you. My prayer is that many, many children will be helped with this strategy and can have a better quality of life.

Book Description

Even as humanity reels beneath the assault of AIDS, epidemiologists are gearing themselves up for the plague's successor. It might be dengue fever, whose carrier, the Asian tiger mosquito, has recently appeared in the United States, or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, which has been transmitted by contaminated human growth hormone. The next pandemic might be caused by any of a dozen viruses that were once confined to other species or territories but now place human beings at risk as we increasingly cross their boundaries.

Updated to include the latest research and developments, this fascinating and sometimes unsetting book sums up all that we currently know about viruses: what they are, how they spread, and how scientists are trying to outwit them. Interweaving theory and real-life medical drama, A Dancing Matrix is science reportage at its most suspenseful and informative.

2 out of 5 stars A non-scientists view of emerging viruses.......2004-01-12

As a regular science reader I found myself cringing at some of the 'facts' proposed by Ms.Henig. Several of them are more sterotype or rumour rather than fact. I agree with another reviewer who accuses the authour of cliche.

At one point she refers to disease as an "inconclusive negotiation for symbiosis, an over-stepping of the line by one side or the other, a biologic misinterpretation of borders."

All biology students should be wiping tears from their eyes at this point. Natural selection has no foresight. Viruses have evolved to survive (as have we). They are not attempting to live in peace and harmony with us anymore than we are trying to live in peace and harmony with them. If a virus can pass 1000 progeny to the next generation whilst being very virulent, or 100 progeny whilst being mildly virulent, it will evolve towards higher virulence.

There are some ok parts, but quite un-scientific and frustrating in parts.

3 out of 5 stars Good overview of emerging viruses, but a bit dated.......2000-11-07

Overall I recommend this book, especially if you are just beginning to learn about virusus. A lot of specific details have changed since this book was published. For example, the chapter on AIDS, while being accurate in 1994, is now so out of date as to be somewhat offensive. However, the main point of the book, that humans are behaving in ways that greatly increase the risk of viral epidemics, is not at all dated. In fact, it is more relevant now than ever. Despite some details being out of date, the concepts presented in this book are accurate, and VERY, VERY important. However, if you are looking for specifics on emerging viruses, I would recommend reading a more current book. If you have a scientific background and want more details, I also recommend "The Coming Plague" by Laurie Garrett. Like this book, it has some inaccuracies, but I found it more interesting.

3 out of 5 stars Not well written but interesting.......2000-04-21

The subject matter of this book sparkles though some mediocre writing. The book is not well organized and the author is fond of cliches such as "Professor Morse has a small office typical of college professors, crammed with books and old coffee mugs." Who cares! If the author had just focused on virulogy, it would have been better, but it is still an interesting read (though a bit dated now).

5 out of 5 stars Lovely book on a fascinating topic.......1999-03-20

I really enjoyed this book! It tells gripping tales of real-life nightmares with energy, insight, and even charm. I also found it very well-informed and extremely clear. I knew almost nothing about this field before I picked up the book, and understood it easily. Henig is an outstanding science writer.

4 out of 5 stars a must-read on what viruses are and how they work.......1999-03-17

I recently reread portions of this book -- the Primer on Viruses Chapter and the chapter on influenza -- to supplement my current reading of "The Coming Plague" by Laurie Garrett. Henig's book is a must-read for any layperson (like me) trying to attain literacy in the important area of emerging viruses.

I disagree somewhat with MVERNON's assessment: "A good read for those with a knowledge of the history of viruses but not their pure scientific background, but would leave those without, pondering far too much." I had no difficulty with this book, although of course it's not the same as reading a novel. Previous to reading it, I had read "The Selfish Gene," but nothing else relevant, so my background was very limited. The Primer may take a few readings, but it's worth it when the pieces -- DNA, RNA, proteins, genes, retroviruses, antigens and antibodies -- finally come into focus.

4 out of 5 stars Wachowski: The Matrix .......2007-09-22

How do the owners of a construction and house-painting business become famous motion picture writers, producers, and directors?

This book skims the surface of the Cinderella lives and passion of the reclusive Wachowski brothers, the creators of one of the most popular movie series in the world: The Matrix.

Born to a Polish-American family in Chicago, Andy and Larry Wachowski both graduated from Whitney Young High, a public magnet school known for its performing arts and science. Andy was admitted to Emerson College in Boston and Larry attended Bard in upstate New York. After only two years, both dropped out to start a construction business back home in Chicago.

When Roger Corman wrote the book, How I Made a Hundred Movies in Hollywood and Never Lost a Dime, he had no idea that he would be the inspiration for one of Hollywood's most influential forces. After reading Corman, the brothers wrote the script that got them noticed. A B-horror film which was never produced called Carnivore.

After Carnivore, the duo wrote a movie that would become a cult classic and a hit with critics called Bound. It was a story centered around two women who steal money from organized crime. At this point, Joel Silver, the producer of the Matrix trilogy, started to think that the script handed to him earlier by the Wachowskis had the potential to be successful.

I liked the book. It is a clearly written, but maybe not so balanced account of two revolutionary people. There is a lot left out regarding the unpleasant aspects of the Wachowski saga, like the lawsuits for plagarism brought on by Comic book writer Grant Morrison and Sophia Stewart author of The Third Eye. If the claims are true it explains the quality differences between the first movie and the sequels.

        Book Description

Helene, the Countess Godwin, knows there is nothing more unbearably tedious than a virtuous woman. After all, she's been one for ten long years while her scoundrel of a husband lives with strumpets and causes scandal after scandal. So she decides it's time for a change -- she styles her hair in the newest, daring mode, puts on a shockingly transparent gown, and goes to a ball like Cinderella, hoping to find a prince charming to sweep her off her feet...and into his bed.

But instead of a prince, she finds only her own volatile, infuriatingly handsome...husband, Rees, the Earl Godwin. They'd eloped to Gretna Green in a fiery passion, but passion can sometimes burn too hot to last.

But now, Rees makes her a brazen offer, and Helene decides to become his wife again...but not in name only. No, this time she decides to be very, very wicked indeed.

3 out of 5 stars Rees Is Wicked.......2006-10-03

What to say about this book - Well I have read the other reviews and Rees is a bit unappealing and Helen is so unsure of her self because of the damage Rees has caused in the past. But having said all that I found I liked this book. It goes against all that I believe in when reading romance novels. I like rakes,(reformed) they must be tho. But Rees is not really a rake and if he was he was a horrible one.

He asks Helen to move in with him. The wife he has spent years and years ignoring because she wants to have a child with someone else since he will not give her a divorce. So he ensures that he will father the child by bringing her to his home with his mistress living there also. But during this story Helen changes - her hair, her dresses, her personality and with favorable results. And boy does Rees like those changes. So much so that he can't fail to stop thinking about his wife.

There relationship changes over the course of this book. Rees and Helen both realize things they said and did wrong. Maybe thats why I like this book was the discovery they made about themselves. If Rees would have cheated on Helen during this time or reverted back to his old ways it would have been disasterous but he did none of those things. Mid way through the book till the end he could not keep his eyes and hands off her. And there sexual discovery was just as important. He seems to really love Helen and her body when before he thought of her like a scarcrow. Well this hero does end up seeing the error of his ways.

This book is not for everyone, but I did seem to enjoy it.

1 out of 5 stars I was shocked it could be this bad!.......2006-09-10

I was so dissappointed in this book. Having read some of her other books and loved them, I felt so let down. How I wish I got online and checked out other reviews before I spent money on this! The hero, and yes, that is not a term I like to use for this jerk, had NO redeeming qualities. Wow, totally self absorbed, insensitive and to top it all off - BAD in bed. How this piece of [...] got past the editors, I will never know, but take my advice and pass on this one. I am especially appalled at the way the writer has the heroine still "love" this creep in spite of everything he does to her. It buys into that horrible mind set that women should be abused emotionally and call it "love." Sick, sick, sick! Re-read a Julia Quinn or Lisa Kleypas and run the other way and save your money!

        2 out of 5 stars A definite miss.......2006-06-01

Helene Holland, Countess Godwin, has been living apart from her husband, notorious rakehell Rees Holland, for the past nine years. In the interim period, Rees lives in their home with his mistress and taints their family name with all manner of scandals. Rees' brother, Tom, has become a vicar in a nearby town. When Tom comes to visit and Rees makes Helene an offer she can't refuse, all sorts of mayhem ensues for this noble family.

I found this novel more boring than anything I've read in awhile and only finished it because, at the time, there was nothing else to read at hand and the library was closed. Helene , has nothing to offer in the way of a romantic heroine besides constantly-shifting morals and a lack of virtue. I found it ridiculous that a woman of her stature would even consider living with her husband's mistress in the same house, yet alone with mistress having her bedroom. It was completely unacceptable and no amount of inner dialogue on James' part would make me think any different. Conversely, Rees Godwin had no love for anyone but himself and his music. It's ridiculous to even suggest that he could think of someone else when he invited his wife to live with him so that she can help him write his scores (try using your own talent to get ahead) and insists that his opera singer mistress stay so that she can sing what he's written (as though there are no other artists in the world. He even mentions himself that she isn't that wonderful a singer).

Overall, James made a valiant effort and failed miserably. The subplot with Rees' brother the reverend falling in love with his mistress is laughable and never really gains any sort of momentum. I would not recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys Regency romance with strong plot as well as a couple to whom you can feel a sense of kinship. I was glad when the reading experience was over.

        5 out of 5 stars A good read!.......2006-05-13

The plot is unusual and rather engaging. I would love it more if the author concentrates more on the main characters but there's no rule that states a book has to be about just a couple. The fact that the pair has a common interest and that they eloped when they were young and they're still attracted to people who share their talents and interest is very interesting. A good read one that gives you another view of the glorifying main characters.

3 out of 5 stars Intriguing plot, but James could have done more........2006-03-30

One of the things I like about Eloisa James is the fact that her plots are generally more multifaceted than many romance stories out there. I also thought this plot, an estranged husband-wife coming together to "sire an heir", was more novel than most romances. The story was generally a good read, but James seems to have gotten lost in some of the details, dropping areas of the storyline that could have been more developed. I think the relationship between Helene and her husband, Rees, could have been fleshed out more. There were aspects of the plot such as the orphan Meggin, that seemed unnecessary as they did not further the plot or character development. At several points in the books, I stopped due to frustration from the fact that I couldn't tell where James was going with the story. Sometimes that is good, and I'm surprised by the twist. However, with this story, I left feeling frustrated.

The novel isn't bad, and I would happily read it again, but James has done much better in her other books. All of the elements were there for a much stronger story, I guess that is why I'm slightly disappointed.
