Book Description
With Cuba as a sizzling setting and a provocative murder that hits close to home, New York Times bestselling author Barbara Parker delivers her most unpredictable novel to date. Married Miami lawyers Gail Connor and Anthony Quintana travel to Cuba to see the island that still captures Anthony's heart. But the trip is anything but nostalgic as Gail and Anthony face violence, murder, a terrorist threat, and a past love that could tear them apart.

Pure gibberish.......2006-10-07
I bought this book because in the cover was written "money back guaranteed" of course I don't want my money back just because I read the book, and if you read a book you don't deserve your money back no matter if you liked it or not.
The main plot is so boring even if you can find it, but it's a difficult task to find it, and the end is the biggest fairy tale I ever read. In the other hand, as all Cuban's plot books, if you want to go to Cuba read this book instead of going to a travel agency.
I'll say to the publishes that don't be so sure about what they are guarantying. Don't waste your time and money in this one.

Disappointing.......2006-06-05
Here I thought I was buying a mystery...only to find the author using this book as a soapbox for Cuban history and politics.
I've found this series to be less enjoyable since it's morphed from the Gail Connor mysteries to the Gail Connor and Anthony Quintana mysteries to what I believe is now the Anthony Quintana mysteries. Gail seems to have become a supporting character in her own books as Mr. Perfect continues to zip around in his red cape, saving the world and all its people.
Aside from her character being minimized, Gail has gone from a fiesty indepedent lawyer to an annoying, harping shrew who whines and complains to and about Anthony constantly, but then forgets all about it as soon as he kisses her hand and calls her "bonboncita" (which is usually about when I throw up). Anthony is way too slick for my tastes -- I lived in Miami for 15 years, and having known many Anthonys, I can guarantee that this guy wouldn't give someone like Gail a second look, let alone marry her and put up with her garbage. And no one...I mean NO ONE...is as perfect as the author tries to make us believe Anthony is.
I was disappointed in the supporting cast in this story too. I didn't think any of the Cuban characters were fully developed and there were a lot of loose ends left hanging, particularly with Mario and Marta. I also thought the regular supporting cast was pretty useless to this story. The author would've been better off leaving them all at home and not wasting so much time on finding stuff for all these people to do.
While this book was suspenseful and well-written, I really didn't expect or want to read a political novel about Cuba and Cubans. Had I wanted that, I would've picked up a Carolina Aguilera-Garcia book.
Not like the others, but very good!.......2005-12-18
If you are expecting a Gail Connor, Anthony Quintana novel with legal twists and courtroom scenes, you are not going to find it in this book. Very much unlike the entire "Suspician of" series this is merely an adventure in Cuba and a bit of a travelogue that helped me to understand 21st century Cuba a lot better. I really enjoyed it and found the tension and suspense to be very good, while understanding the ambivalence of the Cuban people a lot better. I listened in Unabridged Audio. I really liked the time when Barbara Rosenblatt was reading the series - in this one (William Dufris) many of the spanish accents sounded alike and I did have a bit of trouble differenciating characters. All in all I really liked the book, as I will also enjoy a return to Miami.
Tense and Frenetic!.......2005-05-05
This latest in Ms Parker's books is her tribute to her Cuban sympathies. Anthony and Gail take his and her children and her mother for a visit to Anthony's Cuban father and sister. Interesting tidbits here and there. Cuba is on the verge of change; Fidel Castro is almost 80. It will be interesting.
The story was, as usual. one tense moment after another. Anthony and Gail are typical lawyers: She has to know every little detail and he lies like a rug!!!!
I think Ms Parker caught the Latin emotions (and they are volatile) well. It's hard to put the book down. But I am hoping her next "Suspicion of......" will take place back home.

Book Description
Obsessive violence is the cause of more than half of the murders in the world and it is behind nearly all domestic violence. It destroys relationships. It destroys lives. Yet those facts may not touch upon the worst part of the harm done by obsessive, compulsive jealousy: the irreparable harm it can cause to us and to our most precious relationships. Now authors Kenneth Ruge and Barry Lenson coin a new name—the Othello Response—for this pervasive form of destructive jealousy and offer pinpointed advice on how to keep it from causing irreparable harm. In The Othello Response, readers discover how to recognize the Othello Response and determine whether it is doing damage, prevent the Othello Response from taking hold in relationships if it has not already, and heal one’s relationship in the wake of actual affairs or infidelity. Rich in practical advice and case studies, The Othello Response brings a widespread problem to light and offers help to countless people whose lives are in turmoil.

Not as helpful as I had hoped.......2005-05-17
Anyone who has been in a relationship where unfounded jealousy has been a factor can attest to the fact that it is a miserable situation to find yourself in. When I came across this title while surfing on Amazon, I thought it could prove to be an invaluable resource. After all, the title advertises it as a book that can help you overcome the jealousy and possessiveness that has such destructive potential.
Unfortunately, I didn't feel like I got much out of the book. The writing kind of makes you feel like you're about seven years old. It doesn't flow well and seems choppy and thrown together. If it had said something very valuable, though, I don't think this would have bothered me as much as it did. I kept waiting for some sound advice as to how to establish trust in a relationship that seems to be lacking in that all-important quality, but it never seemed to come. The authors seemed to spend an awful lot of time on how to heal when there has been an actual infidelity of some type that makes the jealousy justified, so I kept reading and hoping that soon they would touch on situations in which jealousy is NOT founded and the person being blamed did nothing wrong. This never seemed to come--in fact, in one of the latter chapters, they began by saying they were now going to shift focus to people who had actually had an infidelity in their relationship. This completely stunned me, since I felt like I had been already reading all about that. The case studies offered up to that point had already included couples in which an affair had occurred, so I figured I was still into the "healing relationships affected by infidelity" portion of the book. Although they use the name "The Othello Response" and discuss Desdemona's innocence, they never seem to talk about real people's innocence when battling the Othello response.
There is a quiz in this book which I found very frustrating as well. For one thing, it is incredibly badly edited. You are to answer questions and then award yourself points and add up your points, that kind of thing. However, the editing is so bad that, in the portion where they break it down and discuss each question individually, they are sometimes backward. For example, the question could be, "I feel that my partner respects me." Then, you would mark 1 for "strongly agree" up through 5 for "strongly disagree." They would have their own quiz backward, and would be discussing how it's a huge red flag if you have marked a 1 and that you should head for the hills, basically. This could be overlooked if it only happened on one question, but the last one-third of the questions on the 60-question quiz were messed up like this. I felt that this could be a huge problem for people who aren't paying close attention.
Moreover, some of the advice put forth in the quiz was a little disconcerting. For example, one of the questions was something to the effect of "My partner would be able to tell you, in detail, what I did on a day when the two of us weren't together." The authors seemed to feel that your partner SHOULD be able to tell someone else--in GREAT DETAIL, mind you--what you did on a day they weren't together, because this breeds trust. I must disagree. A relationship just has to have more trust than that to begin with. I mean, what are we coming to? Those little bracelets that convicts under house arrest wear so the police can make sure they don't leave? It just seems like, if the trust in your relationship is so corroded or was never there to begin with to the extent that you need to detail your every movement to your partner, you really shouldn't be in that relationship to begin with.
I was incredibly disappointed in this book, because I just thought it was going to be much more helpful. I am planning on reading other books concerning this topic, so I really don't have a good recommendation for anyone instead of this book. The best I can do at this point in time is to tell you that, if you're looking for a book to save your relationship from Shakespeare's infamous "green-eyed monster," pass this one up and keep looking.
Does not deliver.......2004-11-20
I have been struggling with a true Othello syndrome .. where my mate accuses me of having a non-existent affair. This book devotes one paragraph to that specific problem, and the advice is summarized as "get professional help". Thanks. This book overadvertises & underdelivers, and is probably useful for mild cases of jealousy. If you are the victim of serious delusional jealousy then get yourself a copy of The Green Eyed Marriage, which is based on real psychiatric research and helped me cope tremendously. If your mate drinks or abuses substance, get yourself to Al-Anon.
Real Help for a Common Problem.......2003-12-30
Since I have a divorced friend who is recovering from an abusive marriage of more than 20 years, I am always scouring bookstore shelves looking for anything and everything that can help her understand what she has been through. As soon as I began to page through The Othello Response, a number of light bulbs lit up in my head all at once. I suddenly saw that many of the problems my friend had confronted (a husband who never wanted her to leave the house, one who did everything to make her feel unattractive and dumb) had a very real link to her ex-husband's unspoken fear that she would attract other men if he let her enjoy any freedom in her life. My only quibble with the book is that it gets maybe a little overly intellectual at times, delving into the hidden lessons of the Othello play. But you can skip that if you want and, overall, I think the authors of this book are right. Many of the odd anger-related problems people encounter in their relationships can be traced to unspoken jealousy. Here's a book that can help people understand and remedy some of the odd problems that unsettle their world. I also think it is great that the authors took pains to include everybody - both gay people and straight in their research and advice. It's not just a book for married people.

Setting: Victorian England
Sensuality Rating: 8
In 1839 England, the newly formed Distinguished Academy of Governesses is a daring venture. Three young ladies--wellborn, beautiful, and poor--have decided to take destiny into their own hands and carve a societal niche as governesses. The Academy's first client employs Lady Charlotte Dalrumple to teach her untrained grandchildren the rules of proper English society. It isn't until Charlotte meets the children that she realizes she's also been hired to re-train their father, who left England at 15 for a life of adventure among the Bedouins of the Far East. Once she meets the handsome Viscount Wynter Ruskin, it becomes instantly apparent to Charlotte why his mother feels he needs instruction in manners--the viscount seems determined to shock her at every turn.
Wynter accepts his mother's edict that he pay heed to Charlotte's lessons in decorum, but only because he has plans for the lovely young woman. He needs a wife and Charlotte fills his requirements perfectly. But while Wynter is tutoring her in the art of seduction, Charlotte just might teach the stubborn viscount more about women and his heart than he'd planned to learn.
Rules of Surrender contains all of the witty repartee, detailed English society setting, and passionate romance that Dodd's fans have come to expect. You won't want to miss this wonderfully warm and entertaining tale. --Lois Faye Dyer
Book Description
The Rules of Employment for The Distinguished Academy of Governesses: Always remember your station; after all, you are higher than the house servants but certainly not a member of the family. Be sure to maintain a disciplined schoolroom and to take your meals on a tray. And Bnever become too familiar with the master of the house...
Lady Charlotte Dalrumple is known as England's most proper governess, a woman who has never taken a misstep socially -- or romantically. So, on the surface, she seems perfectly suited to accept the challenge of reforming English-born Lord Wynter Ruskin, sadly uncivilized by his travels abroad.
But the ruggedly handsome man has no desire to be taught manners. He has glimpsed an uninhibited beauty hiding beneath her prim exterior, and he'd much rather spend his days -- and nights -- instructing her in the ways of love.
And when ardor erupts between them, Charlotte learns the pleasures of desire and Wynter the passions of the heart, but before they can love both must first master the rules of employment.

DULL... How in the world did this book get a 4 star oveall??!.......2007-05-26
One of the most boring romance novel I've read this year, maybe in 2 years. I like this authors more recent novels, which are filled with wit, humor, passion and engrossing plot.
This book, *sigh* Take my word for it, skip it!....
Heroine is boring, cold... book is filled with words like discipline, dignity, equanimity, manners, whats proper whats not, dragged on and on..... just boring as hell. Who wants to read about a dull, up tight governess who has zerop sense of humor? Add a hero who says the dumbest things that are just roll-your-eyes silly, you get a romance book thats very hard to finish reading. Not to mention these two seems to have zero chemistry.
THIS book was a waste of time.
would rate it 3.90 stars.......2007-01-01
You know its not that bad i was expecting the worst when i bought it but go figure..I think the seen everyone was talking about was a little misunderstood but thats just me...
for me it was a good read i liked it and i fell in love with the children. But its up to you guys from reading the review to know if you like it and deceide for yourself what you think about the book
Oh this was just awful!.......2006-12-28
This book was really terrible. I didn't like the hero at all, and didn't like the heroine much better. The hero was ridiculous with his bone-headed "adopted" eastern cultural views and his daily habits. The governess just silly. The attraction between them made no sense at all. I can take some very creative plots and this could have been pulled off it the characters had somehow been made believable instead of just caricatures.
Don't waste your time or money.......2006-11-05
I wish I had read the reviews for this book before I purchased it. The other negative reviews are right on the money. I usually read a romance about every two days and I have been trying to finish this one for over two weeks. I just don't like Wynter at all. Nothing about his character is appealing. Charlotte is just boring. I've put this down with about 1/4 of the book to go...I just wish I hadn't purchased the other books in this series already.
Save your Money.......2006-03-16
`Rules of Surrender' was just boring. I enjoy Christina Dobb current series check those out and leave this one alone! I would suggest instead The Lost Princess Series by Christina Dodd or The Royal Brotherhood Series by Sabrina Jeffries and skipped this series.
