The book came when they said it would in 2days and it was in excellent condition. Thank you, RC
Very cute book........2007-06-19
My youngest daughter is in a day care where the name of her classroom is the "Honey Bears". I had signed up to read several books one day, and got online to see what "Honey Bear" books were available, and this was one of them. It's a lovely book - large illustrations, and the snow and snow flakes are 3D, soft and sparkly. The children ranged from about 10-16 months, and they LOVED this book! They'd look at the shiny moon and feel the sparkly snow flakes, and they loved the bear and his two friends. It's a nice book about adventure and the warmth and reassurance of a mother's arms when the adventure is over.
ADORABLE!!!.......2007-03-09
Our 2 1/2 year old loves this book and we love reading it to him. The illustrations are beautiful and sparkle with a bit of glitter. The characters are adorable and the story is too. We love the language they use in the book. It speaks to our son at his level! Things like "The moon smiled at me. She's so big and smiley tonight" and "my paws are happy now" are just samples of how the characters speak. And the author writes one of the last lines so beautifully... "Every tree was hung with a thousand glassy rainbows in the bright moonlight." We just love this book!!

What a tear-jerker that is drastically different from her other books!.......2007-05-28
What a poignant, beautiful, and heart tugging story of a lost soul called Honey Moon who finds love in the unlikeliest place with a legendary Hollywood cowboy called Dash only to have it snatched away from her by the cruel hands of fate, but finding it once again with the gorgeous inside and out Hollywood heartthrob-Eric.
It all starts when she is hired as a child-character on a hit show when she is just sixteen. Dash is a weary, and worn out 40-year old legend that fights his battles with alcoholism and lack of intimacy by bed hopping from one woman to the next, while Eric is a young twenty year old with a bad chip on his shoulder and a tragic secret that eats him up when he is not hiding behind his acting personas.
The lovable and ferociously devoted Honey Moon is dedicated to the mission that she will find love and find a family of her own that she never had the chance to possess; and impacts one man in her early years and saves him with her young love, while the other saves her from her consuming grief by giving his love freely by stripping all his guarded masks that has shielded him from the ugly realities of the world.
And before anything else, you have to read this book as a fiction based on the turmoil of finding or losing love-a love of a brother, father, mother, lover, husband, or best friend- and you will absolutely fall in love with this book. Very reminiscent of Daniel Steel's early works, but even better.
However, do not make the mistake of reading it as a romance. You will be disappointed by the lack of thorough interactions between her and Eric later in the book, and the complexities of her falling in love with her father-figure-Dash- as a young adult. Also, you will feel there is too much unnecessary information that is not needed for a romance development, yet makes a stunning impact as a dramatic fiction.
I wept many, many times and not a lot of books can get to me like that. It was all soul and heart and the healing elixir that love can sear your core inside and out but worth the price to try it all over again.
Just beautiful!
Tragedies and tears, with eventual fulfillment.......2007-05-25
Normally I prefer Susan Phillips' comedies. This was not one of them, but I enjoyed it anyway. I had tears several times, and then there was love and warmth later. I liked the characters, their good sides, bad sides and other sides. I liked her plot development. She is a fine author. The three main characters had troubled childhoods, loss of parents, foster care, etc. but eventually found love. Sexual content: mild.
Couldn't get into it..........2006-07-26
Young teen Honey Jane Moon drives her cousin to LA to audition for a western TV show and manages to land the role of the star's daughter. She becomes smitten with her much older co-star, TV icon Dash Coolidge and passionate for the Hollywood bad boy Eric who avoids her, and whose own life takes a dark turn.
While in Hollywood, Honey metamorphoses from an unloved teen to heroine to reluctant Dash's hero and they marry despite an enormous age gap. When circumstances find her alone again, she reaches out to Eric, whose own career is on the skids. Can they find solace in each other?
This is probably the first SEP novel that I found difficult to finish. The whole May-December romance was hugely icky for me - particularly given the circumstances of the relationship (Dash was her surrogate father for all intents and purposes). And while I understood the attraction for Eric, I did not feel that the relationship - particularly the adult relationship was fully realized. If you are expecting the lighthearted romantic fare you get with most SEP novels - this one will disappoint - the subject matter is more adult and more drama than most romance novels purport to be.
Wonderful Plot; Intriging Characters.......2005-10-10
Honey Jane Moon is the main character in a story that touches the heart and creates a page-turning story. Honey is a strong personality, obsessed with taking care of the people she loves and working hard to hold what little family she has together. All she wants is to be a part of a family that she can call her own and who loves her back as fiercely as she loves them. She discovers a deep and passionate friendship in the character of Dash Coogan although it is extremely complex and not without a lot of pain. As the years pass and life deals her more than her share of heartache, fate throws Honey another major blow and she is once again faced with a life altering dilemma in the way of Eric Dillon. "Honey Moon" is a terrific story about life, people and circumstances surrounding the good and bad of both. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It certainly will not disappoint even the most cynical reader.
Out of the Ordinary.......2004-07-07
If you've read too many formulatic romance novels, this is a wonderful example of a writer who is not limited by genre. The characters are well written, and it displays life as true to form: messy sometimes, unpredicatable and occasionally devestating. Most women will be able to sympathize with Honey's acting out and teenage confusion. I would recommend this book to anyone tired of your typical bodice-ripping romance.

Bronwyn MacArran was a proud Scot. Stephen Montgomery was one of the hated English.
He came to Scotland as a conqueror, saw her beauty and was vanquished. But still she would abhor him.
She owned a temper hot enough to forge the armors of battle or inflame a valiant soldier's passion. Yet still she would resist him.
She became his reason to live, his reason to love. And still she would deny him.
But while clan fought clan, while brother took up sword against brother, and the highlands ran with blood -- their destiny was made...and this mighty warrior pledged himself to his woman's pride, her honor and her name -- and made of their love a torch to burn through the ages!

I loved Stephen!.......2007-06-30
I loved Stephen and didn't really care much for Bronwyn. The overly- masculine heroine is not my cuppa. Still a great story!
Could a fiery, proud Scotswoman and a stubborn Englishman fall in love?.......2006-03-17
I read and loved The Velvet Promise and couldn't wait to give Highland Velvet a whirl. Some people I've spoken to who have read the Velvet Quarter say Highland Velvet is their favorite and that Stephen is the best of the Montgomery brothers. Well, I beg to differ on both accounts. Though I enjoyed this novel and I think it's great, The Velvet Promise, in my opinion, is better and these protagonists got on my nerves more than Gavin and Judith did, if that's possible. But more on that later. Bronwyn McArran is a Highlander that is made laird of clan McArran. But her life becomes a shambles when she is held prisoner in England and ordered to marry an Englishman by King Henry VII. Stephen Montgomery isn't exactly thrilled with the prospect of marrying a Scot. He knows about the Scot's unorthodox ways and how their women have freedom, so he imagines some big, bull of a woman who will make his life hell. He had never imagined meeting the spirited raven-haired, blue-eyed beauty, and he had never imagined doing just about anything to obtaining her body, to get her to become his wife, and to make her fall in love with him. There are various twists throughout the novel.
I love how beautifully described the setting and the scenes these novels are. Then again, Jude Deveraux has always been quite descriptive. The times of King Henry VII come to life in this offering and Bronwyn is the proverbial Medieval beauty. The ways her gowns and her hairstyles are described make this setting all the richer and beautiful. And I love the jousting battle between Stephen and Roger Chatworth (the main antagonist in this offering, brother of Edmund from TVP). What could be more romantic than the hero risking his life in a duel for the woman of his dreams? There is a great deal of passion going between these two fiery protagonists, but they got on my nerves at times. Bronwyn is so hardheaded! She refuses to yield to Stephen and snarls at every little thing that he does. I like spirited, unyielding heroines, but she is over the top at times, though I do understand where she's coming from, for the Scots are abused by the English and she suffers a lot of indignities with the Englishmen. You can just about imagine what goes on between a proud, independent Scotswoman and a stubborn Englishman bent on his own traditions. This makes for interesting reading, but you also want to strangle them throughout the novel. Stephen is the proverbial alpha male. The only thing I don't like about him is that he's blond. I have already associated the Montgomery men as having dark hair and dark eyes (and sometimes green, blue or gray eyes). And blond men are so not my type! But I enjoyed his sensual, passionate nature and the things he does for Bronwyn. He is certainly more likeable than Gavin! Anyway, I am so loving the Velvet series thus far. Even though I liked TVP better than this one, Highland Velvet gets five stars for the simple reason that there is no raping of the heroine here (I took away one star from TVP because of that). I look forward to giving Velvet Song a whirl. I think Raine is my favorite of these men and I look forward to reading his story.
Enjoyed this so much........2006-02-10
I enjoyed this book so much as well as the rest in the Velvet series. You will enjoy the banter of the main characters. The herione is strong and flawed but so much delightful. You will have so much fun with this story.
Not as good as the first book (Velvet Quarter # 2).......2005-09-19
The second book in the Velvet Quarter, HIGHLAND VELVET continues the saga of the Montgomery brothers, this time featuring Stephen.
Picking up from where we last saw him in the first book (VELVET PROMISE), Stephen Montgomery is on his way to meet his bride, a Scottish laird whom King Henry has ordered for him to marry for political reason. Delayed by the accident and miscarriage of his sister-in-law, Stephen reluctantly rides to his wedding, expecting to meet a female barbarian, who her father was foolish enough to choose as his successor. To his shock, he meets a statuesque and beautiful woman - but with a raging temper to match.
Bronwyn MacArran is laird and protector of her people. A proud Scot who holds contempt for everything English, she sees herself and her people as victims of King Henry's manipulations, but helpless to prevent her marriage to an English. Left standing at the altar on her wedding day, she vowed to make her future husband pay for the insults she had to suffer as a result of her shame. And make him pay she does! When she foolishly falls for the lies of Roger Chatworth, an Earl who bears a grudge against the Montgomery's, she agrees to marry him instead therefore resulting to a battle between Roger and Stephen, which Stephen easily wins. Then on their wedding night, she puts a knife on his shoulder injuring him. But does it stop there? I only wish it did.
HIGHLAND VELVET, in my opinion, is a bit of a let down after reading the first book. The first half of the book was a little slow for me, especially reading of Bronwyn's constant complaint and anger for Stephen. Now I could appreciate Bronwyn's initial hatred for the English, but I wish that her stubbornness and pride were toned down a little bit. I like my heroine to have some spunk, but not to the point of being outrageously stubborn. Fair enough that Stephen started off arrogant, but I felt that he really went out of his way to please her by trying to befriend her people, learning the Scots' ways, dressing like them and even changing his name, but all she did was accuse him of being a spy and having an ulterior motive, and constantly declare that she is "The MacArran". What really saved this for me was toward the third part when the table was finally turned and Bronwyn realizes her mistakes. I was so glad to see her contemplating her mistakes and become fully appreciative of everything that Stephen has to offer.
Overall, it starts off rather slow but picks up halfway through. For all my complaints about the heroine, she does redeem herself in the end, which was truly nice to see. It was also good to see the Montgomery's reunited again and get an update on Gavin and Judith and the other two brothers, Raine and Miles. And as usual, Ms Deveraux sets the story well for the next book VELVET SONG featuring Raine.
GREAT BOOK!.......2005-09-10
This book had everything you need to create a good romance: a dashing hero, a beautiful heroine, a person who always seems to interfere with the hero and heroine, and, most of all...PASSION! The relationship between the leads is endearing. The secondary characters are enjoyable as well. The interaction between the leads was great. They really enjoyed smarting off to each other because they did not like a lot about each other in the beginning. But their disagreements were often very funny. This was a very entertaining book. This book was a pleasure to read and I couldn't put it down until it was finished. I loved watching Steven and Bronwyn grow as people. And where able to see that there is good and bad in all kinds of people. You can't judge someone for their race but who that are as a person. I know there are a lot of people who didn't like Bronwyn. I really don't understand why. Steven screwed up big time in the beginning coming 3 days late for the wedding. He had not even come to see her before that. Steven was arrogant and disrespectful. Steven changes as he sees Bronwyn as a true and great leader. It took Bronwyn awhile to forgive and trust Steven. Plus Bronwyn was forced to marry Steven after father and three men she was choose from to be her husband. Bronwyn had a lot to get over before she could fall head over heels in love with Steven.
I really enjoyed the characters, as they were very likeable.
This story was honest about how women were thought of at that time.
Some people hate this book. Some people love this book. I'm in the camp that love this book.

Take it for a holiday read.......2007-06-09
My first book by this author, and I will look up some more of her titles. It is a pleasant reading, however it will not keep you up whole night, but you will like to get back to it the next day (at least I did), it is one of those books that you start to read and finish it quickly (not like next week or so). I like the mixing of the Scottish history into the plot, so one can actually learn something by reading this fiction.
Fast-paced Reading.......2006-06-12
I have started to read Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody books and my grandmother gave me this book to read ~~ not knowing that I do enjoy Peters' writing. This one is not as good as the Peabody series, but it's entertaining and fast-paced. And I love the Scottish lore that is present throughout the book.
This is a small and quick book on a different heroine, Susan, who came over to Scotland to help a distinguished professor, Dr. Campbell, on a dig. Susan loves anything Scottish and has studied all of Scotland's history and literature. Once in Edinburgh, a man slipped her a coded message and soon after, he was found dead. On the run through the highlands, Susan and her newfound friend, Jamie, set off to solve the mystery before anyone else gets killed.
If you're looking for a quick read, this one would do the trick. If you like Scottish history, this one will whet your appetite for a short while. It's a fast-paced reading and while not the best thriller in the library, it's entertaining.

This is Elizabeth Peters?.......2006-02-02
I find it difficult to believe this pedantic, clumsily-written novel is by the same author as the delicious Amelia Peabody mysteries. Where is the wit, the good plotting? As outlandish as the Peabody books are, Peters writes so well in them that one gladly suspends disbelief. This book seems more like the effort of a not-very-talented undergraduate in a creative writing class. How disappointing! The narrator doesn't help; did she read the book before recording it? Inflections are inappropriate, the heroine comes across as a ditsy dame, and the male protagonist doesn't seem to know whether he speaks with an accent or not.
Adventure and Romance in Scotland.......2004-02-17
Susan, a young American graduate student, has always been fascinated with Scotland. She has immersed herself in Scottish history, studied hard at school, saved her money and is now in Scotland preparing to spend the summer working on a dig of a Pictish site. Life is perfect until she is approached by an eccentric street person, has her hotel room searched and finds herself and a new acquaintence accused of murder and chased across the Highlands.
It's a light fun read but the plot is rather contrived. Susan's character is annoyingly inconsistent. She is presented as bright and well educated but then she is shown wandering off with people she just met and allowing herself to be talked into doing things she knows she should not do.
If you are looking for an enjoyable way to kill some time this will do but don't expect anything on a par with an Amelia Peabody because this isn't it.
One interesting tidbit, Susan's professor back home in Illinois is Dr. Arnold Bliss....I wonder is he's any relation to Vicky?
Delightful comedy thriller.......2003-10-26
This is my favourite Elizabeth Peters novel. The heroine, Susan, is a romantic young American archaeologist in love with Scotland and all things Scottish. Staying in Edinburgh on her way to join a dig in the Highlands, she is mistaken for somebody else, implicated ina murder, and finds herself going on the run with Jamie, an unromantic young Scot who bears an uncanny resemblance to a Very Important Person. The book abnounds with amusing characters, especially jamie's crazy Scottish nationalist father, and a trio of ancient lady doctors. Funny, exciting and full of details about Scotland and Scottish history. One minor quibble. At one point Susan desc ribes George I as a 'distant' relative of the Stuarts. he wasn't very distant, he was a direct descendent of King jmaes I, and had as much SCottish blood in him as Bonnie Prince Charlie, which is to say not very much. What a pity Elizabeth peters doesn't write contemporary thrillers any more, i like them so much better than her series featuring tiresome Amerlai Peabody.
