Book Description
Lady Saura of Roget lives a lonely life of servitude—her fortune controlled by her cruel, unscrupulous stepfather. Yet it is she who has been called upon to brighten the days of Sir William of Miraval, a proud and noble knight who once swore to live or perish by the sword . . . until his world was engulfed in agonizing darkness. Summoned to Sir William's castle, the raven-haired innocent is soon overcome by desire and love for the magnificent, golden warrior who has quickly laid siege to her heart.
But there is grave danger awaiting them both just beyond the castle walls . . . and a dear and deadly price to be paid for surrendering to a fiery, all-consuming love.

So So.......2007-10-01
I usually love any books written by Christina Dodd. But, this must've been from her earlier stuff. I didn't like the writing nor the story. It seemed to drag. However, I happen to love her more recent stuff.
Sweet and Smart.......2007-07-23
When Lord William is blinded in a battle and becomes bitter and withdrawn his father Peter is desparate to find help for his beloved son. This help comes in the form of Saura, a land wealthy heiress who also happens to be blind and at the mercy of her cruel stepfather. Peter convinces her stepfather to allow Saura to travel to William's estate to manage it and soon she has the estate whipped into shape. Peter makes everyone keep silent about Saura's blindness and William is intrigued by this woman who runs his estate but isn't tiptoeing around him like everyone else, she tells him exactly what she thinks. William and Saura start falling in love and then are kidnapped. After being hit in the head, William regains his sight and is determined to marry the beautiful Saura, who fears he only pities her. There is intrigue and conspiracy afoot involving a plot to rid William of his holdings.
This was a sweet clever story...not the most exciting but good still.
A Bright Classic Romance for any Medieval Lover (B+ Grade).......2007-05-16
Candle in the Window is a true classic by Christina Dodd. The book is for any fan of Medieval England and a heroine, who even though is blind (and actually from birth and stays that way) is an incredible young lady who finds her self worth and a wonderful love with a knight and lord who matches her in everyway. Saura is the main reason to read this novel. This is such strong heroine who has such a problem as no sight and is able to function above most.
Saura doesn't let her blindness limit her. At times she does seem depressed because she doesn't think she will ever marry or have children. Her stepfather is abusive and hides her away. But then her life has purpose and there is an adventure on the horizon. A lord comes to her to have her help his son William. William was hit on the head in a battle and is now blind. He has given up on life and is practically a shell of his former self. Saura goes to his castle and gives him a reason to live. She wins over his young son and his people, including William himself.
Soon Saura and Williams become lovers, very intense and passionate ones regardless that they can't see each other. But then Williams regains his sight and enemies come out to try to destroy Saura and William's happiness.
Most should enjoy this love story, especially with an exceptional heroine and her hero who wants her love and cherish her for the rest of her days. Saura can be stubborn at times refusing to marry William because she doesn't want to be a burden. Well, William will show Shaura that he means business and that she means more to him then his own life.
There are come comedic exchanges along with suspense and wonderful characters that will stay with you long after you have read this book.

Candle in the Window.......2006-09-19
I have read many of Dodd's books have have enjoyed all of them, except this one. I enjoyed the beggining of the book, but by the middle of it I lost interest. I never actually finished it. I did, however, read "Castles in the Air" and loved it. Christina Dodd is a great writer. I just didn't fall in love with this book the way I had with all her other ones.
Candle in the Window.......2006-03-22
I was not enthralled by this book. I read an advertisement for this book and felt like it would be a good read. But, upon reading the book I found it lacking and could actually put it down and skipped through to get to the ending.

A joyful and faithful holiday commemoration.......2003-12-14
Based on a story by Leo Tolstoy, The Candle In The Window is a children's picture book about the true meaning of Christmas. A lonely, unhappy cobbler who finds no joy in life encounters the holiday proceedings of awaiting the Christ Child's visit. He prepares to welcome Christ, yet the gifts he has planned end up going to other needy souls. It is a young girl who shows him the eternal value of this, for Christ's own words have proclaimed the testament of good deeds in the terms "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of my brethren, ye have done it unto me." A joyful and faithful holiday commemoration adapted by Grace Johnson, The Candle In The Window is warmly illustrated by Mark Elliott and very highly recommended.

Free to Love.......2007-01-05
This book addresses women's issues on so many levels from rejection, abortion, divorce and it gives direction on how to be free from the baggage so you can truly be able to love and be 'lovable'.
Awesome. I purchased several copies for numerous friends.
seek God before looking at a man.......2005-08-31
a must book for any single woman desiring a relationship with a man. you must be serious because there is a contract in this book. after I signed the contract, i became satisfied with Jesus first. I still had a desire for a relationship, however, i was not desperate. This book taught me how to love men as a result.
Excellent Reading for Single and Married Women.......2005-07-21
This book was an excellent guide as to how to prepare yourself for your "Knight in Shining Armor", according to God's words. It was easy to read and very helpful when trying to find out who you are as person, before you can know how to have a mate. I recommend that all single and engaged females buy this book.

A Wake-Up Call.......2005-07-02
This book was and is a real awakening. It makes you realize that you can still go out and have fun while still being in accordance with GOD's plan. Every woman should read this book of she feels that in order to be happy she needs a man by her side or when she gets one her life will be full of happiness.
God as a vending machine.......2004-02-15
This book was recommended to me by a friend. After the first chapter, I was sceptical. It asks you to sign a paragraph stating that you want to set aside 6 months to prepare yourself for your future husband. It seems as though the entire book is built around you doing things so that you can get a husband. Becoming a better person is just a means to an end - getting a man. While all of the suggested things to work through are great, and a lot of what 'Bunny' has to say is good, the reason for doing them is not. I believe one should work on their character so that they can become more godly and Christ-like, not so that after putting in 6 months of time, God will act like a vending machine and give that person a husband.

Abandoned by a cruel fate, lovely, thoroughly modern Dougless Montgomery lay weeping upon a cold tombstone in an English church. Suddenly, as if in answer to her prayers, the most extraordinary man appeared.
He was Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyck...and according to his tombstone he had died in 1564. Tall, broad of shoulder, attired in gleaming silver and gold, he was magnificent. Drawn to his side by a bond so sudden and compelling it overshadowed reason, Dougless knew that Nicholas was nothing less than a miracle: a man who would not seek to change her, who found her perfect, fascinating, just as she was.
Yet she could not imagine how strong were the chains that tied them to the past...or the grand adventure that lay before them....

A Man's Opinion.......2007-09-25
Yes I'm a man and I read the book.... (brief pause), now if the teasing has ceased I must tell you I really liked it. Now the real reason I'm admitting my disgrace. Quite frankly, your men might like this one too, and it might just spice up your relationship. I really enjoyed putting myself in the man's shoes, learning about a more manly time, and enjoying the story in general. I didn't even realize the new appreciation of women I was getting. After I read it I kept my enthusiasm to myself (of course), but began feeling more intense about the girl who made me read it. I'm an Airborne Infantryman in the 82nd by the way, not a weakling by any stretch. So if you want to share a book with your man and have something new to discuss over dinner, tell him to do a soldier a favor. Oh yea, ladies you might like it too. As you were
Needs a better heroine .......2007-08-29
I kind of liked this book and other times I wanted to strangle the main character. The book started out so well. She's stuck in a bad relationship and a knight in shining armor comes to save her. There were just so many ways to approach this theme but Jude Deveraux took the really long and painful route.
The main character was so annoying I wanted to stop reading at times and finally did after that weird Calculator scene. I felt bad for Dougless in the beginning and wanted her to find her happiness like in all romance novels. But as I continued to read, I started to feel like she really deserved crappy boyfriends for being so damn stupid. She's too emotional and weak and her only winning characteristic is that she likes to help people. That's it? That's what makes a playboy fall in love with her? She's whiny and she cried too much in the beginning of the book. She's weak and I can't stand her indecisiveness. She doesn't know what she wants and I wanted to hurt her for even considering going back to her lousy boyfriend. She's an idiot. She's a jealous, petty person and she's always muttering sarcastically under her breath. She thinks she's so witty and I just wanted to roll my eyes.
The biggest problem I had with her was that she was pretty selfish. Nicholas needed her help and all she could think about was her own needs and relationships. His past was hundreds of years ago to her, but it just yesterday to him. She acted like the past didn't matter because it was too long ago and was very insensitive to him. I couldn't understand why he would ever be attracted to her. All she can think about half the time is finding a man and getting married. That's like her only goal in life. Anyway, since I really couldn't connect with her or even like her, I didn't like the book very much and eventually stopped reading.
Aside from Dougless, I liked all the other characters and thought the author's writing style was pretty decent. It's the main character that that made the book flawed, which pretty much killed the book for me. I couldn't finish this book and I probably won't read another book from hers seeing how everyone's already said this was her best one. Other people might enjoy this book though if they're into that type of heroine.
Fantastic Story.......2007-08-11
I absolutely loved this book!!!! I have read it several times and have the cassette. I also purchased the cassette for my niece, she loved it then read the book. I know the story is far fetched but it is still fun and the romance is wonderful. Don't we all wish. I don't understand the reviewers who don't like it. I loved it and you won't be sorry you purchased it. Fantastic Beach Read or listen to in the car going down.
Not for me..........2007-07-27
I only picked up this novel because a friend threatened my life--and I nearly ended hers after reading it. I've read a novel from this author before and didn't like her style of writing; it's written with too many facts, and not enough emotion, which is what I look for in a ROMANCE novel. I want to connect with characters, empathize and weep and ache with them since I'll be spending so much time with them anyway--this author does not provide that, and although this tale is interesting, it falls flat due to lack of character/reader affinity.
The heroine seems very likable, although you only get to know her in a single wave-length way, and the hero sounds dashing, although he's sometimes parched, I did like the way the story circled back to the beginning, giving it wholesome synchronicity--but I think that was it.
And the ending...The only word I can think of to describe myself, especially after not enjoying the book so much anyway, is inconsolable.
Could have been great!.......2007-06-14
This was my first book by Jude Deveraux. The first half was great but something happens in the middle that makes it as so the whole story is starting from the beginning and I didn't like how the relationship was rushed during the second half. The ending was very touching. If I wasn't on anti-depressants I probably would have bawled my eyes out. :)

Customer Reviews:
Heads - Up Ladies!.......2007-07-08
157 Pgs - I strongly encourage every women to read this book if you have been through a lot of heartache in current and past relationships.
The way we allow people to treat us and the way we treat people entering into our lives has everything to do with our past and the acceptance of ourselves.
Believe it or Not!
Wilson gives you heads up on how to go about discovering your life long love and knight in shining armor
Still A Favorite.......2007-03-26
I first read this book 4 years ago just seeking a good read, not knowing who P.B.Wilson was. I did not expect the blessings that I received after reading Knight in Shining Armor. Wilson really opened my eyes, allowing me to look within myself instead of depending on a man to solve my life problems.
Don't get me wrong, I definitely have a desire for marriage and want a God-fearing man to take my hand for that long walk while here on this Earth. However, the one thing many women fail to realize is that Jesus is our first love. Initially, I didn't understand what that meant. After reading this book, the dust was cleared. I'm a better woman now that I've made my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ #1 in my life.
Knight in Shining Armor truly is a book for every woman because it speaks of more than how to prepare for a spiritual partner, but of how to love Jesus first. Seek Him and He will take care of the rest. It's that simple.
I encourage any woman who is feeling lonely, frustrated in the dating game, soon to be married, getting divorced, or compromised spiritually to read this book for your own awakening. I'm sure that after your 6 month commitment, you, too, will be spiritually refreshed and abundantly blessed!!
An excellent resource for all single Christian women.......2006-07-04
As a Christian counselor, I am very impressed with the insights offered in this book. It is easy to read & fun as well as wise! I have bought dozens of copies over time, and have received rave reviews from everyone who has read it.

Great for younger kids interested in knights (3-4years), lots of information and great pictures.
Great Gail Gibbons.......2007-03-22
Like all of Gibbons' books, the text is full of good info...accompanied by useful illustrations.
Knights and Castles.......2007-01-19
I bought this for my 6-year-old grandson, who loves to play with knights and dragons. Great pictures and lots of information presented without a lot of words. I learned a lot, too! Gail Gibbons' books are terrific!
Historical info for kids.......2004-03-05
This is a history book that describes the lives of knights in the Middle Ages. The book describes how boys could become knights, what the rules of the code of honor for knights were, and what battles between knights were like. The book introduces a lot of factual material and vocabulary, but there is no plot or story line. At the end of the book, there is a short section describing some famous knights and their dragons. Personally, I found the book a bit dry, but kids who are fascinated with swords and armor may show some interest in it. The book has about 900 words.
Knights in Shining Armor.......2000-10-23
As an heraldic artist for over 40 years and with grandchildren becoming interested in ALL things, I found this book very helpful in passing on my interests. It has helped them to become intrigued with the Knights of the Roundtable and their play now includes slaying dragons and rescuing fair maidens. They also have started asking about the various insignia in all my books on heraldry.
The illustrations brought to life the costumes and customs of the era. The story was written simply so that any young child could readily understand what the author was saying.
Thanks to Gail Gibbons for such an interesting way for children to learn.

Medieval Knights.......2003-02-11
Would you like to know what knights wore for jousting or what it was like to live in a castle with turrets and a drawbridge?
This book has all that and more. Not only can you find out how to design a shield, construct a siege catapult and make a checkerboard and pieces, there are authentic recipes for knightly dishes. You can also take a quiz to see if you have what it takes to be a dragon slayer. (although dragons are rather cute and these days we don't slay them, we display them. As in cute little dragon statues.)
This book has fun information about:
Armor and Weapons
Making a Helmet
Becoming a Knight
Making a Knightly Sword
Heraldry
The Castle and Manor
Making a Castle
Food
Knightly Pastimes
Tournaments
Chivalry
A Knightly Code of Honor
The Crusades
There is also an interesting diary of Robert Fitzwilliam an 18 year old squire.
"Sir Richard answered five challenges to joust and broke four lances. His helm nearly came off during one pass, and his opponent's horse ran wide at another."
The author is an assistant curator of armor at the Royal Armories at the Tower of London. He has acted as a consultant on the world of the knight for television and film and is also the author of several children's books on the subject.
Perfect book for elementary students studying medieval life........1997-08-30
Teachers and students, would you like to spice up your knight life? Gravett's book is the perfect tool for you! The book includes chapters on: armor and weapons, being a knight, heraldry, castles and manor, food, knightly pastimes, and more. Each chapter also has student activities. Book Description
A lavish exploration of the culture, symbolism and craftsmanship of Arms and Armor at a time when their artistic and ornamental importance, in fine art as much as in the armor work itself, was superceding battlefield use.
Book Description
A serious call to follow biblical code of heroism. It challenges men to put off the cloak of mediocrity the modern church has to offered and to put on the vestments of Christ-the armor of integrity, honor and courage.
Customer Reviews:
Fair maidens - do you want a knight in shining armor?.......2005-04-21
I have the answer for you! Well, not me personally. Bryan Davis has the answer.
I'm not a great non-fiction reader. If it is for work, then yes, I read it. But anything else - I pass easily. In fact, non-fiction just doesn't hold my attention. If I read two non-fiction books a year, I'd be stretching it! Generally I start with good intentions - but they fade as the tediousness settles in and I don't finish the book. I have a small pile of non-fiction books next to my bed, all half read, all thrown over for a good fiction fix!
But look what I've found! A non-fiction book that held my attention ... and not only that, it had me laughing! Wow! That was unexpected.
Even more unexpected, this book is not meant for women, it is meant for men. Yet here I am, fully woman, and loving the book. And not because it showed me all the things my husband should be doing for me, but because I also gleamed information from it about what I should be doing for my husband!
Who can resist a book with chapters titled `The Toilet and Other Female Domains - The Lid, the Paper, and Aiming to Please', `The Secret Cactus Code - Deciphering Her Words and Moods', and `Slaying Dragons - Not Your Mother-in-law'.
Davis covers topics ranging from a woman's `domain' in the home, and how to tread carefully if you are a male visiting these areas, to understanding a woman's mood and language. He touches on watching out for your wife's welfare in the workforce and when dealing with home matters, how to keep your tongue from being a double-edged sword, and how to keep a servants heart. Heavier topics cover a Knights Old Code, marriage vows and passing on the legacy.
`Spit and Polish for Husbands' is a wonderful guide for men on how to keep themselves the love of their wife's life through their Christian walk.
Although this book is very serious in its message, Davis has interwoven a wonderful wit that lifts the heaviness of most chapters. But not all. There were two chapters that I found hard to slug through. But two out of twelve is a jolly good ratio!
