Arian Whitewood is a beautiful seventeenth-century enchantress who learns the power of her mother's amulet when she's suddenly whisked three hundred years into the future and into the arms of a handsome, cynical billionaire. Can Arian cast enough spells to save Tristan from his enemies?
Customer Reviews:
Breath of Magic.......2007-05-04
Great book. Modern day story with love, magic, and time travel all weaved in. Wonderful settings with rich characters. I almost feel like I was there during the time travel changes. Scene changes so realistic. The romantic element was lively, realistic, and juicy. Not predictable and kept me guessing what would happen next. Really fun!
Can't get enough.......2007-01-16
I can't get enough of this book. The characters pull at your heart with the emotions they experience and with a little magic throw into the mix this makes for an excellent book.
Enchanting and fun to read.......2006-08-14
Arian is drowning. The townspeople of Gloucester believe she's a witch and the test is to see if she can float or sink in the lake. If she sinks, then she is innocent. She is, of course, dead, but hey, what's more important is that she's not a witch. If she floats, then she truly is a witch.
Before Arian drowns, she clutches her emerald locket and concentrates on the spell she wrote down for her escape. A couple of twirls later, she's on her broomstick, flying through New York City and into the arms of Tristan Lennox, a handsome billionaire.
Tristan was hosting a competition of sorts when Arian came flying in. He offered a million dollars to any person who can prove that magic existed. Since it seems that Arian is the most legitimate entrant, Tristan puts her up in his suite and dispatches his army of scientists and detectives to prove she's a fraud.
In the meantime, Arian is wreaking havoc in his life. The press has permanently camped out on Tristan's doorstep, his staff is swamped with fielding calls and answering mail, and he has to bunk out in his office since Arian is sleeping in his suite.
After several weeks of trying to prove Arian a fraud, Tristan relents and hosts a huge celebration where he presents Arian with a million dollar check. He is, also, loath to part from Arian so a marriage proposal follows afterward. But before the wedding reception is over, an old enemy demonstrates that Arian is a fraud.
Tristan is enraged and distraught over Arian's betrayal, and it took an act that nearly cost Arian her life to force Tristan to believe her. But by then it's too late, Arian is swept back to seventeenth century New England and into the clutches of Tristan's nemesis.
This was a fun book to read. Enchanting in its weave with a humorous and enthralling love story. Arian is a wonderful character. She is filled with enough curiosity, passion, and humor to make you laugh out loud. Her antics are highly entertaining. She is the perfect foil for the anal and uptight Tristan.
Pretty good timetravel book.......2005-08-29
I wasn't super impressed with this book, but that doesn't mean that i didn't enjoy it. I read the sequel to this book about a year ago and when I started this one I didn't even realize that it was related to "Touch of Enchantment", and I still didn't get it until half way thru when I went online to see the customer reviews that this one got out of curiousity. I remember really liking that book! Now I might go back and read the sequel again just for closure, and because I don't remember that much about it except that it was pretty good. This book does provide light reading and it definetely wasn't bad in my opinion, but there were some parts that a little inconsistent and well...dumb. Such as Tristan's feelings. He keeps going back and forth with loving Arian and then distrusting her with every little innocent remark she makes.I understand that when you have that much money, it's natural to be distrustful and that most of it was distrust of his own feelings but I mean, come on it got a little old. Also, he was kind of a jerk to her a lot of the time and even though she would react, she got over it really fast and was feeling all mushy about him once again. If a guy suggested some of the things to me that he did about her I don't care how hot he is I would not forgive so easily. Then again he is a billionaire...so maybe I could forgive a lot too. No, she wasn't as mercenary as i am, just really naive and a little airheaded. One other thing I felt did not work was how quickly she adapted to modern vocabulary and living. I mean she wasn't even hardly phased by anything for very long at all except for the helicopters. Time travel is not a real beleivable topic anyways, but that took away from any realism that her character could have had. But like i said it was still an enjoyable read and it didn't drag because then I wouldn't have finished it cause I won't finish a book that I hate.
Richly drawn characters bring a magical story to life.......2005-01-16
An interesting, unique story; well above average writing; and likeable, memorable characters make this an above average book. Look for the sequel, as well as Shadows and Lace, three of my favorite books.

Book Description
Emma and Eadric have no sooner turned back into humans (from being frogs) than Emma's mother is in a panic, Aunt Grassina is distracted because she's found her true love turned into an otter, and Emma's magic is so out of control she sends herself to the dungeon by mistake. The neighboring kingdom has chosen this moment to attack, and if Emma can't get Grassina's mind back on protecting the kingdom, life as they know it in Greater Greensward will be in peril. From underwater sea monsters to fire-breathing dragons, this witty pair of young friends manages to sweet-talk, cajole, and race their way to victory. But when it looks as if everything will finally work out, disaster strikes, and Emma finds that magic is not enough-it takes real bravery and a strong, new friendship to succeed.
Customer Reviews:
Great children's fairy tale book.......2007-08-09
We bought the Frog Princess from a school bookfair. I've been reading it to my 8 year old daughter. We both enjoyed the book so much, I bought the next two in the series on Amazon. These are wonderfully funny, engaging stories. This is a children's auther I would highly recommend.
PUT IT ON THE WEB........2007-01-12
The book Dragons Breath is a good story. It takes you to several settings the ones it takes you to the most would be when they set out to find the things they need to un-do Haywood's otter spell. The other setting is when they are at their home place where they stay which would be the castle. A conflict this story gives is Grasinna's mother puts a spell on Haywood because she thinks that Haywood is not right for her she thinks he is not good enough for her. So she turns him in to an otter and they tried to convince her mother to un-do the spell. After all the tries they did with her she did not UN-do the spell .The other part that made it hard was they couldn't find all the ingredients. So the resolution is they figure out a way to un-do the spell by them selves which would be Emma, Edric, Grassina, and Haywood. It takes them awhile to find all the ingredients which would put them in the place of having to travel to other places and find the ingredients to un- do the spell. Well this is a good book for people who enjoy reading fantasies I would recommend it to those kind of people.
A Good read for fantasy/romance lovers........2006-10-25
The book Dragon's Breath by E.D. Baker is a fantastic book for those who like fantasies and also the romantic type. This author has a writing style that moves the story along quickly which is one of the reasons I liked this book.
It's about Princess Emma who goes on an expedition with her prince Eadric, her aunt Grassina, and her husband Haywood. Grassina's mother turned Haywood into an otter under the impression that he was not good enough for her. Wishing for Haywood as a human and not an otter, they all attempt to coax Grassina's mother to turn Haywood back. When they're effort makes the issue worse, they find the way to un-do the spell and decide to turn Haywood back themselves. Under pressure with a clock running they have to gather unusual ingredients for the spell. They barely make the cut in and a ghastly turnout ruins their chance to bring Haywood and Grassina the happily ever after they deserve.
I enjoyed this book because of the good ending and the way the author developed the characters. I enjoyed reading this book because I usually don't like fantasy books, but this one worked for me with the streak of romance woven in. I would give this book four stars for the moving pace, the well developed characters, and the balance between romance and fantasy.
Fabulous.......2006-09-10
This is one of the best books I've read in the past year, and since I work in a bookstore I read a lot. I think Emma is the perfect example of what a good female character can be, and it's a story that I think girls everywhere will love. I'm sure boys will like it too, with all the dragons and giant spiders.
This book has so many great things going for it, my favorite thing being that Emma never uses violence to solve a problem unless she needs to, and always gives humans and animals the benefit of the doubt and lets them prove themselves before thinking badly of them.
The paperback is also very sturdy, and will hold up to repeated readings. And trust me, you'll read it repeatedly.

I absolutly adored this book, and I can't come up with enough good things to say about it. It's great for absolutly any age (I'm 26) and I read the first three books in two days.
Wholeheartedly reccomended for girls, who will find a near perfect heroine and role model in Emma.

I love it so much, I finished it in a day. If you liked Frog Princess, READ THIS!!! If you didn't, you should still read this because it was GREAT!!! I read the third one too, and it was also great, I would recemend the series to anyone! Read them. You will LOVE them I promise!!!!!!:)

I loved this story because there were more adventures and surprises, but the end made me sad until I read the next book, Once upon A Curse, and everything was better. I was hooked, I read one and I had to read them all!!!!!!!!!!
Bye It Flamen' Fast.......2005-04-10
If you want to read "Dragon's Breath" I suggest you read "The Frog Princess" first so you can understand it better. In "Dragon's Breath" Emma and Eadric help Emma's Aunt Grassina, the current 'Green Wtich', turn her true love, Haywood, back into a person from a otter. After overhearing a wizard talking to the soul of her grandmother, who turned Haywood into an otter in the first place, Emma learns the things needed to turn him back. Hearing this she sets off to find the ingreddients with Eadric by her side. They find many weird 'things' along the way including dragons witch makes Emma's magic stronger. The neighboring kingdom chose this miment to attack. With Grassina distracted and Emma's magic out of controll it looks like Emma's father's army is going to lose untill something very strange happenes......

Book Description
I was fortunate to be raised on a small ranch in Northwestern New Mexico. I learned responsibility at a young age while enjoy a freedom that few ever have the opportunity to experience. In the summers we worked hard in that beautiful rugged country but our imaginations allowed us ride with Butch Cassidy and we found joy in the simple things like a special swimming hole, or a brand new fishing pole. But the greatest joy the summer of my fifteenth year was the County Fair and Rodeo held over Labor Day weekend it was the last breath of summer magic when anything could happen.
Customer Reviews:
First dance at the county fair.......2007-09-19
Lynn Jett has written a wonderful tale of small town America. She gives a vivid description of what many small towns have, a county fair. Being from a small town, I appreciate Lynn Jett's capturing of the colors and pageantry that embodies the county fair. This is really a story of a young girl coming of age, at least in her own eyes. She has turned fifteen and this year she's going to the dance. But, this story has a delightful twist. Read Last Breath of Summer Magic to find out what happens. This story is strongly recommended by this reviewer.
Five stars, Lynn.

Customer Reviews:
I liked It!.......2007-04-05
I have enjoyed most all from this series by this author. Some were better than others, but I liked this one. At least it was
DIFFERENT! I thought it was a very nice story and it didn't seem preachy to me. Didn't seem to be on a cause, either. The story moves right along and, yes, it does involve child abuse. Seems to me there is only so many ways you can keep telling love stories in the highlands and, hey, this one I liked! I thought the author gave Payton a nice story.
Interesting but modern voice too loud.......2005-12-12
I've never written a review before, but felt I had to about this one. As both a sexual assault nurse and a lover of historical romance stories, I found this book interesting yet a bit disappointing at the same time. I think I got through only about 4 pages when I was ready to put it down. I read historical & time-travel romance novels as much, if not more, for the history, as I do for the romance. It allows me a few minutes each day to escape to an earlier time, without all the modern day gizmos & sensory overload. When an author's words & tone are not consistent with that time period, all enjoyment is lost.
While I have no comment one way or the other about modern day political correctness, it has no place in 15th century Scotland, especially when you look at the social mores & values of the day. They did not view things as we do today. If this were a time travel romance, with the heroine being a modern day woman transported back in time, I could see it. But as it stands, I believe much of it was inconsistent with the views of the time. I did finish reading, and am glad I did, but overall, was still disappointed.
In the beginning, I liked the heroine's spunkiness, and found the situation Payton found himself in to be quite humorous. I like my fictional heroes to be a little less than perfect. However, I found the secondary characters to be much more interesting and well-rounded. I would love to read a book about Callum, as an adult in the 1400's, and learn how he was able to overcome the abuse. I applaud the author's use of such a theme as child sexual abuse. However, reading the book, I felt like I was reading the words of a modern day woman on her soap box, not someone from the 15th century. And no matter what time period, I have a problem with any person, real or fictional, discussing their sexual relationships with a child. Call me too old fashioned, but that really turned me off!
not worth reading.......2005-11-17
very disappointing, I like spice, but to me it was porno, threw it out!!!!!!!
Not the Payton Murray I expected!.......2005-05-23
If you have read the other Highland Series featuring the Murray daughters, you would already be familiar with Sir Payton Murray, supposedly the bonniest lad in the whole of Scotland. In Highland Angel, we finally get to see this revered knight meet his downfall in the form of a damsel in distress.
On his way to a rendezvous, Kirstie MacIye, who claims her husband just tried to murder her, approaches Payton. He listens to her story and was aghast to find out her husband's evil doings especially of finding out the abominable things he does to children. As a man of honor, Payton cannot help but offer himself as Kirstie and the abused children's champion. So he takes her and the children home and offers them his protection.
As to be expected, both feel a strong attraction for each other. For Payton, it is the first time in his life that he had to work hard in seducing a woman. For Kirstie, she is frightened of her strong feelings for Payton partly due to her marriage vows and Payton's longstanding reputation for having bedded half the women in Scotland. She worries that he sees her as nothing but just another addition to his ever-growing collection of women.
HIGHLAND ANGEL, while brimming with sensuous love scenes, lacks the excitement that I enjoyed from other Highland books by Hannah Howell particularly the stories of Payton's kinswomen - Elspeth (HIGHLAND VOW), Avery (HIGHLAND KNIGHT) and Gillyanne (HIGHLAND BRIDE). Since reading Highland Vow, I've wanted to read Payton's story but this book unfortunately didn't live up to my expectations. Payton seemed rather jaded in this story compared to how he's been portrayed in the previous books. And Kirstie, although likable enough, just didn't endear herself to me. I was expecting some really funny verbal spats between them but they were sadly lacking. I found the children funnier than the main characters.
It's quite disappointing because the first few pages seemed promising only to go downhill and then kind of pick up on the last third. I'm giving this 2.5 stars (extra half star for Gilly and Connor's appearance).
no 'highlands' in 'highland angel'.......2003-07-01
I have never read any of Ms. Howell's other "highland" titles, and having read this one, I probably will not waste my time.
I have read some awful historical romances, and this one would have to fall into that category. It certainly doesn't deserve the distinction of being called "historical" and even stretches the line to being a period piece.
This is one of those books where it looks like the characters and plot line have abolutely no relevance at all to the location or time frame that the work is supposedly set. What is Scots about this story? Some obscure hints at fueds that any logical discussion could forestall [as it eventually does!] is the only nod to clans that the author throws out to us. Give me a break!
I get absolutely no feeling for Scotland or Scots at all from reading this book. Whether this is weak research or just weak writing I can't say.
I'm sorry, but this story is not even remotely plausible. No doubt sexual abuse and child abuse have been rampant throughout history, but the author's use of this topic sounds like she is jumping on a soapbox. She lost me very early on with the way she dealt with this issue.
If you enjoy stories that evoke the beauty and majesty of the Scottish Highlands, don't be taken in by the title as I was, and skip this one.
