This is a nice twist of theme and character. While still holding true to the Valdamaran feel it brings you on a whole new avanew of intrigue and captivates you all over again. This is a very enjoyable story.

I find myself agreeing with a lot of the complaints that have been raised by other reviewers: episodic (a couple of the chapters can be found in "Oathblood", the short story collection, as short stories that were later incorporated into the book), lacking in unity, vague in important details etc.. But overall, the story was interesting, the characters very engaging and likeable, and it had moments that I really liked. Younger readers interested in this book and the one that follows it should know that the plots contain some disturbing situations, including a demon that sets up a religion to use and abuse women, and numerous murders and rapes. That is the main reason for my 3 star rating, but in general, I'm glad to have picked up this book. Don't miss the sequel, I think it's better than "Oathbound".
Characters You Can Love........2004-11-25
I love the main characters in this novel. They compliment each other yet they are so different. This was one of the easiest Valdemar novels to read. Potentionally one of the best novels in the series. This set is different than many of the other novels in the Valdemar series.

because Misty does not make it clear that this is less a novel than a series of interconnected short stories. Hence, a reader expecting a novel would find it a bit choppy; there is much repeated exposition. I wish she could have included "Sword-Sworn", the story that tells how they got together, but I understand that there were legalities which prevented that. (It had been published in another anthology and the rights couldn't/wouldn't be released.)

How far would you go to prove your worth? In "The Oathbound Wizard", Stasheff's second book in the Wizard in Rhyme series, Matthew Mantrell (Lord High Wizard of Merovence) swears that he is will conquer the kingdom of Ibile to prove that he is worthy to marry his true love- Alisande the queen of Merovence.
This is the second book that I've read by Christopher Stasheff; and I have to say, I'm hooked. I enjoy his writing style, and the way he integrates the modern (Matt Mantrell) with the ancient. Fantasy has always been one of my favorite genres; and Stasheff brings it to a new level.
I would strongly recomend this book to anyone who has read "Her Majesty's Wizard"; the prequel to "The Oathbound Wizard". If you haven't read "Her Magesty's Wizard", you may still enjoy it; but some of the references will not make sense to you.

All word must be carefully choosen and not said in haste. If not you end up as Matt in"The Oathbound Wizard". He foolishly swears that he will concure a Kingdom to marry his love. He then is trapped into a dangerous quest involing enemys and allies, sea people and Dragogliphs. Stashelf will truly enrtance any bibliophile or fantasy lover. This adventuare will stun and amze all. My praise to Stasheff!
Dissappointing.......2000-09-13
While I truly enjoyed the first book of the series (Her Majesty's Wizard), I found this and subsequent books in the series to be a major dissappointment. The main character never seems to learn anything, nor does Stasheff follow up with his leads from the previous book. Whatever happened to Max telling Sir Guy what orders to give? Or Matt realizing, after a year as a wizard in this world, that words have power? Major gaps like this shouldn't happen even in a poorly-written series; a Wizard in Rhyme had the potential to be so much more.

The Oathbound Wizard is about a boy called Mathew that has travelled through dimensions and has ended up as the Lord Wizard in a country called Merovence.In this world thigs you say are taken more literally than here and Matt swears that he will overthrough the evil Wizard Lord of Ibile.Matt goes into Ibile and defeats the evil Lord (picking up loads of friends on the way) and marries Queen Alisande of Merovence.
A magic world where a poetry makes magic........1999-08-09
This is the book that got me into reading even though I hated it so much. A very exciting, interesting and romantic book. This book can not simply be described. One would have to read it and see for himself. I don't really like poetry but in this book , it is a way of making magic that is far beyond explainable. The only books I ever read were books for school and I read them because I had to. This book made wanna read it just to see what happened next. This is truly the best book I have ever read.

This was a very fun book to read expecially the first couple of chapters. Action was happening so fast, I didn't know how they would keep it up through the whole book, but they nearly did. They authors did a good job of drawing me into the story. Overall very good. I can't wait for their next book.
An intriguing new world.......2004-04-06
This story is very well presented and can be totally engrossing at times. The authors have presented thier own world in a fashion that makes you want to know more about the happenings in Nordalia. The flow of the story is steady and the characters presented are vibrant and seem almost alive as you read. The only negative impression I had with the Book was a couple of instances where the text seemed out of place with the storyline. wether this was due to a printing error or just misplaced text, it is mostly insignificant and does not detract in anyway from this Story. All in all a great first Book by the authors. I will look forward to more adventures in Nordalia.

This book is one of the finest RPG products I have bought in nearly 25 years of gaming. It is a complex and detailed setting with great depth and immense possibilities. In fact, even if you never play a game in The Forge this book has enough ideas and immagination to be worth the price.
The setting supports every style of play, from backstabbing politics, warring kingdoms, vast wildernesses to explore, strange and arcane mysteries to uncover, winding underground complexes holding the secrets of lost civilizations. And this list isn't exhaustive.
But what about new game systems and mechanics? you might ask.. there are a slew of new prestige classes that open up even more options to adventurers, a passle of interesting new races to ADD to your games, and the crowning jewel: Prestige Races.
Prestige races represent physical transformation of your character as they aquire new traits to help them on their quests. WOTC was so delighted they optioned the idea for an issue of Dragon!
This setting plays to the best D&D has to offer, tailored to it's strengths and letting it's weaknesses fade into the background. The setting offers good reasons for all the expected adventure foils to be present. It is an interesting read even if you never play D&D.

This book was a great surprise........2003-10-11
I picked it up at a booth at Gencon last year. I started reading it during lunch and I couldn't put the thing down. This is a vast, complex, and massively detailed campaign world. Check the publisher's website if you want more information on the story... it has a fantasic metaplot and backstory to set your own adventures against and supports every genre and style of play, except perhaps the low level. The campaign is very high powered, so those who prefer low level, low power games will probably not want to use this setting. I will say, however, that as a fan of high level games, I've never once seen a setting geared towards high level play that is comparable to this one. This is a truly epic setting.
Highlights include an imprisoned god of unimaginable power and his servants, now cursed to become his jailers... a city with a population of 40 million with the most complicated (and awesome) politics I've ever seen, thousands of feet high built upon the ruins of previous incarnations of itself... a war torn desert with limitless riches buried beneath the sands... a pit of darkness miles deep that makes Ravenloft look like disneyland... lands, magical items, and beings drawn into the world from every other conceivable game world... and a grand conspiracy to hide the truth of the world from its inhabitants.
The reason it is $30 is because the book is dripping in full color artwork. It's gorgeous, and worth the price for the content alone. The eye candy is just a nice bonus. Pick up a copy at your local gaming store and just read the first few pages. It'll hook you. It is nothing like any other published campaign setting... it is far more rich and deadly than any I am familiar with... it has Ravenloft's evil, Dark Sun's grit, Dragonlance's epic feel, and the personality and familiarity of the Forgotten Realms, all in a mix that is entirely its own. The best part about it... the world is designed to have your characters ripped from any setting and thrown into the mix.
The catch is that you can never leave, although it is hard to imagine why anyone would want to.
A Truly Unique Book.......2003-02-08
Bastion Press has outdone themselves with this book. They have created a fantastic well-thought out setting with interesting character races, thought-provoking prestige classes and, best of all, one of the most unusual worlds ever to be created for D&D (Although it can potentially be used with any d20 game). In addition the artwork is very nice and complements the book well.
That being said, this book is not your typical D&D "medieval" setting. It has more of the feel of the old (out of print) role-playing game Skyrealms of Jorune in that Bastion Press has created a truly unique world.
It has a tiny flavour of Ravenloft in that characters are brought and imprisoned here, but it is not a horror roleplaying game otherwise.
Because it is so unique some people may not like it, but if you want something which is definately not your run of the mill "medieval" fantasy realm then give this book a try.

When I purchased this book I really was not expecting much. However, after reading the first chapter I could not put this down. I Lvoed tis book so much so, that after reading it, I started to re-read it!! which by the way isn't something I ever, ever do. Once a book is finished, that's it! I actually fell in Love with the characters, esepecially "Lexie" --what a treat she is. I wish Ms. Gibson, had done a sequel to this book. Oh well, who knows.

this was a horrible romance. there was no romance, just an idiot of a 'hero' and a heroine who let him get away with it. the only thing this couple had going for them was sex. how long is that going to last with there attitudes? our 'hero' might as well have been a neanderthal. he was obnoxious, cruel, stupid, etc etc (insert pretty much any negative term here) he is selfish and self-centered. and he never changes. i pity the heroine, but most of all i pity the child.
i sort of liked the heroine, she tried to make the best out of having dyslexia, but she let herself be taken advantage of over and over and over. and she took advantage of other people - the whole thing about walking out on her fiance, granted he was made out to be a horrible person in the end, but still...
and virgil was every bad stock character come to life. to be honest, i would recommend you read the dictionary before reading this - at least you might learn some interesting words. and a dictionary is more entertaining.
So Irresistible!!!.......2006-06-01
The title of this book is so apt because this book is also simply irresistible! I loved georgeanne and John's story. It was believable, cute, funny and very romantic. So far, I've read 3 books by this author and I haven't been disappointed at all. All her books have excellent characterizations and the stories are romantic and memorable. My two fav. are See Jane score and this one. I plan on getting more books by Rachel Gibson but till then, this love story will be close to my heart.

It was hard to like either of these characters (Georgeanne and John) in the beginning, but after seven years, they both grew into better people. I just can't really figure out when John fell in love with Georgeanne. The first 300 pages were about how he didn't love her, then at the end he suddenly loves her. This left me feeling a little unsatisfied, like an Elizabeth Lowell novel where the hero hates the heroine until the last 10 pages. Nevertheless, it was still a very enjoyable book and it was hard to put down.
The most endearing part of this book was with regards to John and his daughter, but also how John kept stealing pictures of his daughter and of a very pregnant Georgeanne.
Love child brings couple together.......2005-06-16
This is the first in Gibson's series on the Seattle Chinooks hockey team. Georgie, a dyslexic beauty queen from Texas flees her Seattle wedding to a millionaire old enough to be her granddaddy, and hitches a ride with one of his prized hockey players, John "The Wall" Kowalsky. A one night stand whereby John dumps her at the airport with an airline ticket produces a precocious daughter named Lexie.
Georgie has tried to move on with her life, she has a successful career as a caterer. Seven years after their liaison, John runs into Georgie at a fundraiser. When he stops at her house to return the checkbook she dropped, he discovers his love child and wants to play daddy, even if he has to sue for custody.
Despite her misgivings as well as the start of a new romance, Georgie reluctantly invites John into their lives, and soon they are back in bed. When team owner Virgil discovers Lexie's parentage, he issues John an ultimatum - Georgie or the Chinooks.
There is also a great secondary romance between her sarcastic business partner, Mae, and hockey goalie, Hugh Miner, who has met his match. I would have liked more of their romance, since it was so funny (and she was so anti-jock).
I loved the story (even if it was pretty predictable), but found the constant "cryin' all night" exclamations from Georgie, and Lexie's constant use of the term "gots" (cute the first 2 times; annoying and redundant by the 30th utterance) to grate on my nerves.

I hate to say this but I couldn't finish this book. Normally a book this size takes me an hour and a half to read. This is my fourth day with this book and I simply can't get through it. I simply can't seem to make myself care what happens to these characters. The concept is good. The delivery needs a tiny bit of work.

The three Fates (Lachesis, Atropos, and Clitho) arrive at Vivian Kinelly's Portland home seeking help from her Aunt Eugenia who recently died. The trio was stripped of their magical power for one year in an effort to bring some competition into the magical realm in an effort to revitalize it in the age of scientific skepticism. Now someone is trying to kill them while they lack the ability to perform magic.
The threesome realizes that Vivian is not ready to be their champion so they ask her to find master magician Henry Baron, owner of a local pet store under the name of Dexter Grant. Vivian explains to Dexter what is going on and he knows she is the soul mate he has waited an eternity for. Sparks fly between them even as they intercede in an effort to keep the "retired" Fates from harm.
Readers will find SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE simply irresistible because the whimsical story line contains characters that make magic so real that it feels more like a branch of science. The story line never takes itself seriously while providing sub-genre fans with an amusing war of the magicians (reminiscent of the Corman's movie The Raven). The lead couple is a charmed pair who one does not need a crystal ball to feel they belong together. However, the three Fates and the new wave substitutes turn Kristine Grayson's fun plot into a jocular joyful experience.

I read the first 3 books in this series, and this one fell woefully short compared to the others. As I read this book, I felt increasingly that Ms. Grayson was under a publishing deadline for this book and rushed through. There were loose ends left EVERYWHERE! We never find out the Fates' fate. Which, by the way, was the whole reason that Vivian and Dexter get together anyway! We never learn what really happens to Aunt Eugenia, who also played a part in the "evil scheme". Speaking of "evil scheme", the villan is captured too easily. There is no real "romance" shown between the characters - mostly in their heads. The one "love scene" we get cut out of. I wasn't even sure that the characters had actually consummated their realationship until it was mentioned later. Go figure. Vivian's nephew is alluded to in that he may have knowledge of Vivian's and Dexter's situation and/ or that he may have abilities like Vivian's, but we never learn anything else about it. And if that's not enough, the whole book takes place over the course of ONE day! (Boy they slept together awful fast!) There's no real ending either. This book just screamed for an epilouge, but we don't know what happens to the characters. We also get to briefly see the characters from the previous books, but they are also quickly discarded. This one was a bummer all around.
Unfinished but still witty.......2003-01-14
"Simply Irresistible" by Kristine Grayson feels unfinished. Plot lines are left hanging, and if you have not read the Grayson's other books, you might feel a little confused by the actions of some characters. In addition, those looking for a well-developed romance should not start here.
Still, this is a witty, appealing read for those looking for a fun, light read. The characters are accessible, and it's cute to witness them "falling in love." The hero, especially, is immensely appealing. The plot line (which concerns a wrathful goddess seeking revenge) moves along briskly. In addition, there are some laugh-out-loud moments and some delightful surprises.
All in all, I don't know if this is up to the quality of the rest of the series. But it's still an immensely entertaining read. I'd recommend it for wit and originality alone.

I really, really, really enjoyed this book! It had me laughing early into the morning hours! I could not put it down. Guillaume has a style of writing that is all her own. Dara and Nick's characters were written very well together. Gread Read! Much love Guillaume!

If you have never read a Herlequin Presents, then maybe this isn't your style of book, but I loved it! It had everything: sex, humor and romance. Vivien gets cruelly dumped by her boyfriend and three days later ends up in the arms of the very sexy Ross Everton at the Bachelor and Spinster's Ball. When she finds out she's pregnant, he's determined to do the honorable thing. This plot had been done countless of times before, but with Miranda Lee's witty dialogue and the simply irresistible hero, it comes off very fresh. Definitely a keeper.

Ross and Vivien sleep together just hours after they meet. Vivian runs off the next morning, but later discovers she is pregnant. At least she does the right thing and tells Ross about the baby. Through the rest of the book Vivien and Ross are basically hateful to each other. Vivien has a sharp tongue and seems to lash out every chance she gets. When Ross calls her a shrew I thought that he was right on target. There physical relationship is anything but romantic. Ross is hurt and his words and actions border on violent. Happily ever after is just not what I picture with these two. This could have been a good story, but somewhere along the way it turned into who could be the most hateful despised character.
