Book Description
Poor girls.
Lydia is not used to working for her money. But having money? She’s used to that—and lots of it. Now that she’s in La-La Land, Lydia will do whatever it takes to maintain the L.A. lifestyle she was born to have. If it means she has to tell a few little lies to get there, well, a Hollywood girl’s gotta do what a Hollywood girl’s gotta do, right?
Rich Boys.
Being with Jonathan is playing with fuego. Everything about him spells trouble for Esme, from his trendy hybrid car to his expensive clothes to his so-called ex, Mackenzie. What’s worse is it seems that he wants to keep Esme hidden away, a secret. Doesn’t a guy who likes you want to show you off? Unless you’re just being used.
Richer Girls.
Anyone who’s anyone will be at Fab, the exclusive party that wraps up L.A.’s fashion week. That’s why Platinum—neurotic music superstar and Kiley’s new boss—is desperate to snag an invite. Kiley has the unlikely power to make it happen . . . or say good-bye to her California summer.

Courtesy of Teens Read Too.......2007-01-21
As THE NANNIES series rolls along, seventeen-year-old Kiley finds herself struggling to survive the craziness of being the nanny employed by rock superstar Platinum. She must hang in there, however, lest her dream "to graduate from high school in California so that she can attend Scripps Institution of Oceanography as an in-state resident" be shattered.
Kiley's friends, Lydia and Esme, are nannies for other prominent families in L.A., and each girl faces her own difficulties. Lydia was born into money, but her parents decided to move the family from their home in Texas to the Amazon basin to do missionary work when she was only eight years old. Until she moved back to the United States to live with her aunt and her girlfriend, Lydia's only knowledge of the rich, famous, and shallow came from the magazines she was able to confiscate from visitors to the bush. Now, she isn't about to let her life in the States go, no matter what she has to do to keep it.
Esme, on the other hand, has a completely different problem: She is sleeping with her boss's son. Not only does the situation put her job in jeopardy, it is also a point of constant guilt for Esme, who has a boyfriend back home. Besides, she is only the hired help: sleeping with the boss's son is a degrading road to nowhere.
Mayer occasionally tries to make the point that money isn't everything: "She was willing to work. Marym was willing to get paid for the looks that she'd done nothing to earn. There was something very unfair about it" (p. 49). Overall, however, the story is shallow, name-dropping, and requires no real thought to read. But is that a bad thing?
THE NANNIES series is not meant to be ground-breaking literature. It is written to entertain, to be fun, and to be a series of lighthearted "dirt" novels for pre-Jackie Collins fans...and I happen to love Jackie Collins. Mayer accomplishes just what she intends, and she does it well; if I were a fifteen-year-old girl, I would read this, breathless, in one sitting.

The Nannies: Friends with Benefits.......2006-05-30
Just like the first book in the series, Friends with Benefits is filled with the same cliches found in The Clique, Gossip Girl, and The It Girl. Girls shop and go to parties, meet boys, have a misunderstanding, then get back together with said boys. However, I was still greatly entertained by the second novel, and read it in a couple hours. I highly recommend it, but read the first book first!
The nannies.......2006-05-24
This book was awesome! its was just as good as the first one, probably better. Theres a lot more action and a lot more problems. Platinum gets even crazier causing a whole lot of trouble at just the wrong time. Will Esme end up with Junior? or Jonathen? and what happens to Junior that makes Esme second guess Johnathen? Ready for the juicy details...read the nannies friends with benefits and find out. Youll be hooked!
Book Description
A top editor at major teen magazines for more than a decade, Sabrina Weill has earned the trust of millions of teens across the country. Through thousands of letters, e-mails, and interviews, and now in an exclusive nationwide survey, teens have confided in her, voicing their questions, fears, and concerns-and providing front-line reports on what really goes on at parties, at school, before parents get home from work, online, and elsewhere.
For the first time, Weill reveals what teens have told her-and offers parents and other concerned adults insights into how to communicate with young people so they'll listen, open up, and think before they act.
Customer Reviews:
Mandatory Reading for parents of teens!.......2006-08-15
I loved this book and wish all parents would read it! Ms. Weill had my complete attention when she started out by saying that "teens nationwide are suffering from a lack of honest communication from their parents and other pivotal adults around them..." She later says that it is dangerous to rely on schools to provide sex education and that parents have to be the primary educators of their children. She is confident that despite the horrified looks on their faces when we bring it up, teens want to talk about sexuality with adults they trust - and that they want adults to know what is going on. Teens are vulnerable emotionally and physically and susceptible to regret as their feelings emerge after sex. We can help them avoid those situations in which "sex just happens" and the consequences that follow.
Far from inducing fear, Ms. Weill constantly reassures parents that research shows talking to kids about sexuality does not make them have sex earlier and that there are positive trends reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggesting youth are having less intercourse as well as using more contraception, and that there was 30% less teen pregnancy between 1994 and 2004. She is matter of fact about the risks of the Internet, early sex, pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, but never lets parents off the hook. The more parents know, the better equipped they will be to help their teens avoid "sexual risks" including sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy.
Ms. Weill reminds parents throughout this book that we [adults] have the power to have an enormous influence on the behavior of our teens and although I cannot endorse her statement that "teens should be pulling away from adults" I do agree that they need to take on more responsibility and that they still need our supervision and guidance. Teens need to know that 66% of teens and 81% of 12 - 14 year olds regret their first sexual experience and parents and teens need to know that teens have the knowledge and strength to "make good decisions."
Parents being in denial will not help and it will undermine our relationships and make them superficial. I appreciate the fact that Ms. Weill respects youth and is very clear that sifting through their emails or reading a diary or blog is a major invasion of privacy and it will take a long time to rebuild the trust and credibility lost by the action. There is no substitute for putting the time into developing a strong and positive relationship with our child!
Parents need to be able to talk honestly with their children about sexual rights, pleasure, and risk. Teens need to know that it feels good to be excited, but that sexuality should be protected, consensual and planned with someone they love to feel great. For parents who do not think they can talk easily with their kids, Ms. Weill includes resources and wonderful examples throughout the book and there is even a discussion about developing a safety plan with your teen.
My favorite quote from this book is "good parenting is always inconvenient for the parent."
This is an abstinence book in the disguise of objectivity........2006-07-31
This is one more example of a book by a journalist posing as a sex expert. The media create so-called "experts," and Sabrina Weill is one of them. All the tired cliches and ideas can be found: losing virginity (when it is really a gain in freedom) and the fuzzy place of not recommending comprehensive sex education while walking the line with abstinence "education." Weill simply speaks the fuzzy line of the National Campaign to Prevent Teenage Pregnancy, which has failed to come down clearly in favor of comprehensive sex education. We don't need a thousand more studies to indicate that telling the truth is better than preaching.
Unfortunately, the truth is not always obvious in this book. The study carried out by the author is not particularly well designed and the sample is not much. Weill has some helpful observations about discussions with parents, but most of her book is not relevant to today's teenagers, who are active sexually. She is biased against friends-with-benefits, but this is actually a more balanced choice than possessive dating or hooking up for many.
A must read for parents of teens.......2006-01-19
This book explains it all in regards to what is going on with our children today. I think parents of pre-teens also should read this to prepare for what is ahead. It was a real eye-opener because all the information came directly from teens.I keep it as a reference for talking to the kids and also to understand what some of their slang words are really meaning.
Very basic, almost insulting.......2006-01-12
As a person who works closely with teens and also reads a lot about teen sexuality and teens in general, I found this book to be too simplistic and very very basic. It reads as though the author is still writing one of her teen advice columns when her audience is primarily adults. The tone of this book very condescending. Weill constantly repeats her qualifications to write this book ("teens trust me," "I have spoken to 1000s of teens in my career"); while those qualifications are good, the constant mentioning of them gets old and can be insulting to the reader.
The statstics sprinkled throughout the book were interesting and I wish more of the text was spent talking about their implications. What does it mean that X percent of 13 year olds have had sex? Have had 4 or more partners? The text was quite separated from the survey results and was too simplistic and not very insightful. I understand that this book was supposed to be accessible, but I found it so basic that it offered very little that was new or even interesting.
Her quotes from teens were also suspect to me. If she got responses from 1000s of teens about their sex lives and beliefs, why these quotes? They seem to come from the same mold and offer little diversity. Basically, they all say that a person should wait for sex or talk about negative experiences with sex. Where are the stories of teens who have healthy sexual experiences? I am not necessarily advocating teen sex, but I do believe that people should be exposed to the idea that some teens do like to have sex and have it responsibly.
If you have never read anything about teen sex before, this might be useful. If you have, it's simply a sensationalized summary in a condescending tone.
A must read for anyone working with Teens.......2006-01-12
A fabulous, well-written book with practical and sound advice for anyone who cares about teens and their sexual and mental health. It's great to get hard, accurate data about what teens are thinking and how to get through to them. Especially helpful are the sections "Your teen will listen if you say this".

Book Description
Lawrence C. Ross, Jr.'s irresistible debut novel charts one man's journey of self discovery through a series of wild, unforgettable adventures...
His profile as an up-and-coming attorney at the powerful Los Angeles law firm of Ketchings & Martin doesn't quite jibe with the fact that Jason Richards barely has a social life, much less a love life. So when his smooth-talking colleague Steven Cox entreats Jason to join him on a regimen of sex, style, and more sex touted by the men's magazine, Titan, Jason is intrigued. Under Steven's tutelage, Jason soon gets with the program--and suddenly nights are filled with supermodels, swanky loft parties, a fine Ducati motorcycle, and all the hot sistahs he could ask for--if he even had to ask.
But something--someone, really--is making Jason itch to break the Titan code. Carole Brantford, the beautiful director of Mama's House, a community center for single mothers, has Jason longing to get back to a real life that's headlined by real feelings for a real woman. But then he agrees to one last party, this time at his place. Little does he know that what's about to go down will change everything...

Are you a Titan man?.......2006-09-12
This is a story about a man talked into living a wild party lifestyle based on Titan Magazine. The main characters were Steve who upward bound in his career but naive and Carol who was Steve's bitter ex from college who caught him cheating. The plus is it's a good storyline. The minuses are it's predictable, too much cursing, and dry humor. The book was hard to put down because even though it is predictable it does has some graphic sex scenes which are well done.
Is there a point to this???????????.......2006-02-05
Try as I might I could just not get into this book nor force myself to finish it.
A real good book to read...................2006-01-06
The moment I seen the book I had to get it. The title caught my attention. The book was so good that I finish the book in one day. I really have to say Lawerence Ross did an execellent job with this book. I would love to read more of his work. I have to say my favorite character in the book was Carole bestfriend Marcia actually I think all of the characters was on point. I would have like the ending to be more than it was but maybe the author can do a part two. I would love to know what happen because at the end Jason and Carole did end up been together but he got suspended from his job so I want to know what happen with that and Steven hating self.

Love and Relationships 101.......2005-11-05
Friends with Benefits (FWB) is a humorous and sensuous tale from first time novelist, Lawrence Ross. Set against the steamy, sexy backdrop of Los Angeles, FWB is an entertaining tale about relationships, friendships, dating and love in the New Millennium. Have you ever read a magazine article regarding dating and tried to apply the tips to your life? If you have, you realize how difficult some of those challenges can be as well as how tongue-in-cheek many of the approaches are. Have you ever asked/wondered 'who really takes these test seriously and does anyone really apply them to their love life?' Have you ever knocked boots with a friend-no strings, no attachment, no commitment-you only come together for late night booty calls? You tell everyone you are friends but behind closed doors you are receiving and providing sexual favors. The answers to these questions and others can be found within the covers of FWB.
After a messy breakout and long absence, Carole accidentally reconnects with former college boyfriend, Jason Richards. After putting past pains aside, she decides reluctantly to give Jason another chance. Ross details what happens when friends with benefits elevate to a committed relationship. When emotions interfere it is not always smooth sailing. Filled with hilarious, laugh out loud moments as well as beatdown, make you want to slap your mama antics, Ross delivers a page-turning experience. I would be remiss if I did not mention that these friends have active libidos and almost every other page it seems as though they are on the prowl for the next sexcapade. Some of the sex scenes are graphic and off the chain and might not be the faint of heart. Romance is out, lust is in and libidos are active-if you are looking for a few tips to spice up your sex life FWB might have a few to offer. A fast paced plot and raw, juicy sex scenes make this an enticing and steamy read.

Don't Be Influenced.......2005-08-26
Jason Richards is a good, nice guy. Fresh out of law school, he enjoys talking to his neighbor, Mrs. Petroff, who believes that if he eats her beef stroganoff every Friday night, he'll find someone to have a meaningful relationship with. That is, until he pairs up with Steven Cox, an arrogant, no-good lawyer with a penchant for showing off. After 2 years, the case that Jason's been working on hits pay-dirt. Problem is, he's looking for love the wrong way and gets influenced by Steven, who's not only jealous, but intends to help him spend the four-million dollar bonus he received from winning his case.
Carole Brantford works at a non-profit agency. Her sole intent is to help others, but she just can't seem to help herself. In and out of relationships, she feels like she'll never find "the one." Finally, with advice from her good friend Marcia and the help of a magazine, she begins to realize that in love, there are no set "rules" and you have to play your cards to win, but with the right person.
These two never anticipated running into each other again; there are still scars from their college days. Carole hasn't gotten over what happened in their relationship and still holds a bitter grudge against Jason. Although they have a close, mutual friend in common, he just wants to stay out of her way. Will they ever put aside their difference to really come to know and understand what's important in life?
FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS was an easy, light-hearted read. From beginning to end, I found myself laughing and thinking about situations where I could recall reading a magazine and trying to follow the advice, realizing that it was very misguided. Lawrence Ross does an excellent job of showing how you can be easily influenced when you want to fit in, and the beauty of being exactly who you are. The book also highlights the dangers of putting your trust in people you don't know too fast and too soon. Definitely an eye-opener, the title of this book holds meaning to so much more.

Jason Richards is a plain and safe kind of guy. He recently began working at a prestigious law firm and aspires to make partner. When the dud case he has dumped on him is settled, he receives a $4-million bonus. Jason shares the news about his good fortune with Steven Cox, the other black attorney at the firm. Steven casually introduces Jason to the eight-step Titan lifestyle, in which men abide by a code of conduct. Jason begins to fall for Carol, a woman from his past who is following Diva magazine's friends-to-lovers plan. Jason follows the instructions to lure Carole into a friendship with benefits while living the Titan lifestyle with Steven. Just when Jason gives up the lifestyle and Carole is convinced the plan is working, Jason's indiscretions are exposed. A Must Read!.......2007-08-06
This was the first Christine Feehan book I read and one of my favorites. I highly recommend it to anyone who might be interested in a Gothic historical. It is full of mystery, love, passion, action, unforgettable characters, and even some magic.
And after you finish, read Feehan's other books! She is an extremely talented author, so make room on your bookshelf of favorites.
The Scarletti Curse.......2007-08-01
This is another of Christine Feehan brilliant books. She can make you part of that, that is written. You start reading and you can't put it down, I know I couldn't. If you enjoy books of physical, telpathic and romance you will love this. Every time I read one of her books they just get better.
Beautiful & Touching.......2007-05-24
I really love The Scarletti Curse, having reread it for more than 5 times I believe.
The pacing is good, with enough action, excitement and unconditional love (a necessity to destroy the evil curse at work).
The book starts with village girl Nicoletta being summoned to accompany the village "healer" Maria Pia, who raised Nicoletta since her mother's death, to the Scarletti Palazzo. They keep this charade to prevent the people at the palazzo knowing about Nicoletta's extraordinary healing powers (this heritage is explained in the Carpathian book "Dark Symphony, in which the lifemate is a descendant of the main characters/couple). As Maria Pia is a midwife herself this causes no problem.
At the palazzo the patients turned out to be Don Giovanni Scarletti and his niece Sofia, suffering from food poisoning. While both "healer" and assistant do their work, Don Scarletti keeps observing Nicoletta, asking her questions when Maria Pia fell asleep and after many dissatisfying non-answers says "I am not so blind as you and the healer seem to think"!
A few days later the "healer" and assistant were summoned to the palazzo again, but this time Nicoletta knows that no one is ill. Maria Pia therefore went back to the Palazzo with another assistant, but this assistant is old and when asked about Nicoletta kept telling the Don how wonderful and extraordinary she really is. This gives Don Giovanni a reason to choose a bride at The Bridal Convent. His choice is Nicoletta, who gets escorted (begging and struggling) back to the palazzo by the Don.
In the following days up to and after the wedding arguments heat up, a few murders commited, the staff gossip, while Nicoletta grows into the role of the Lady of the Palazzo.
Excellent Gothic romance.......2007-02-20
What an excellent book. Great use of characters and character growth. The chracters are revealed slowly in layers. Multidimensional supporting characters. There are a pair of young girls that are so well created you can hear the russle of their gowns and the patter of their feet running down the palazzo's corridors. A mystery that grows slowly throughout the book. Wonderful sense of the time and place. I have cried 3 times while reading this book. The level of mystery and intrigue reminds me of her Ghostwalker series which has the same depth of conspiracy interwoven into the romance.
This is certainly one of Christine Feehan's defining works.
