JUST HORRIBLE!.......2007-05-16
I have read more romance novels that I can count and I think this was the VERY worst. I had to force myself to finish it. There is no real love story. The plot is unbelievable and lacks depth. This was the first novel I have read where I didn't like the female lead. YIKES! MAIN problem I had with this book, Kade was thoughtful, caring, sweet, mild mannered, a book worm actually, the peace maker of the family in the first book HIGH COUNRTY BRIDE, In this book he is a marshal, pig headed, rude, thoughtless and childish! BIG ERROR on the Auther's part!
I am going to read the 3rd in this series on the hope that Miller gets her act together!

I really enjoyed this book as much as the first. The one thing I really did like about this series is that you still read about the whole family. Alot of the series books don't include anyone from the first and I liked that these ones do.

This story lacks the romance its back cover promises. Yes there are wedding bells but what a disappointment to learn more about the family verses the relationship between the two main characters.

This bit of fluff was ok but........no passion, no excitement, wham, bam, thank you maam. I like to read stories of the Old West where 'men were men and women were women', but this was a trifle boring. Concepcion, the housekeeper (sp) had more personality than anyone else in the whole book.
I almost didnt finish it and waded thru to the end to see how it all turned out. This is my first western from LLM and I will get her future books from the library.

Pleasantly surprised.......2002-10-10
There are two stories in this book: one by Susan Mallery--Lucaas's Convenient Bride, and the second by Maureen Child--Jackson's Mail-Order Bride. The men are Lucas MacIntyre and his brother, Jackson MacIntyre. Their uncle died and left a will stating that they couldn't inherit the saloon/ranch/mine unless they married. The women in both stories are strong, caring, and focused. They are different in that one is plain and one isn't, but they are willing to take a risk on these two guys, and work at it. I was really surprised how much I liked this book. I started it, and didn't put it down till I read the whole thing. Try it.

This is the second story of the MasIntyre brothers -- Lucas and Jackson.
Lucas has sent for a mail-order bride for his brother Jackson, which he did not want and Lucas's wife Emily wanted to know how Lucas was going to convince Jackson to marry.
[grin] Lucas married Miss Molly Malone by proxy for his brother, claiming that Jackson was too ill to attend the wedding.
Molly goes storming [in a downpour] up the mountain to Jackson's cabin and mine to see if he really is ill.
Oh, Boy -- Jackson is laid out with a fever and Molly must bring the fever down as Jackson floats in a semi-conscious void.
In a dream like state Jackson consumates his marriage unknowingly.
Jackson was in for the shock of his life when he woke up the next evening.
OK, so she was his wife and he would treat her so but he would not have anything more to do with her.
A nice added irritant was Captain Blood.
And Molly was keeping his cabin too clean - he was feeling crowded out of his sanctuary.
The trouble was he couldn't forget his dream of her in his bed.
Molly was refusing to let Jackson hide away from the world and kept feeding any one who passed through -- and just about got into trouble because of it.
When she learned of Jackson's secret, he almost lost her and had to convince her to not leave him.
Molly brought him a love that he didn't want but she drove away the loneliness and proved him to be a worthy husband.
Highly Recommended and you breath a sigh of relief for the MacIntyre brothers when you finish these stories that they have recognized their true loves at last -- the secondary characters are really neat also.
Don't pass this one up - it is a great addition to one's library.

This is the story of one of two brothers -- they must meet the terms of their uncle's will in order to secure their inheritance -- A Saloon - a ranch and a mine!
Lucas MacIntyre runs a saloon in order to have an income to secure the ranch.
He can't believe he would ask the uniquely enterprising schoolmarm to enter into a "merger" but what else was he to do. His mail-order bride did not come through and he was running out of time.
Miss Emily Smythe knew that no man would ever want to marry her. She had too many shortcomings. No beauty, no voluptuous figure to entice a man - only a very good head for business.
She held her breath as she negotiated with Lucas to be able to open an hotel on the second floor of his saloon.
Lucas was a teasing, handsome gentleman who knew that no woman would ever marry him if they knew the truth about him.
He would keep Emily at a distance and not get involved emotionally but one kiss had him dreaming of Emily in bed. Another kiss and he was wanting to introduce her to the pleasures of the marriage bed --- and get himself a little relief from his frustrations. Oh, Lordy!
In the meantime he was importing a mail-order bride for his brother, who wanted no wife. [grin - boy did that backfire]
In the meantime Emily gave Lucas two of his most precious gifts -- Do Not Miss the conclusion in Maureen Child's story of Jackson MacIntyre and his Mail-Order Bride.
Highly recommended and not heavy to get through --- great addition to anyones library.

Yup! Rene Girouard is pregnant. Is she going to tell "Hawk"?
She loves him but ------ He has no interest in marriage. Boy, did he blow it.
Renee's employer, Emory Sweeney, coirces her into agreeing to marry Matthew Hawkins for her own protection. She had walked out on him two months ago when he aired his views on marriage. Not Happening. Yup! they used protection.
Now he wonders if she was going to tell him about the baby.
Whoa! someone takes a long ranged shot at Renee and nicks Hawk.
Then Emory has plans to announce their marriage to his money-grubbing family and name Renee and Hawk as his heirs. More danger and family anger.
Emory sends Hawk and his wife on a honeymoon and another attempt is made. Plus their hormones keep getting in the way.
I surely do love Hawks friends, Tony "Ash" Ashcroft [in the D.A. etc.] and Jacob Blackhorse [where is his story] then we meet Greyson Wilkins [another story, maybe?]
And, Oh, was it funny when Hawk met the sheriff, Calvin Martinez in the buff, in Colorado. I am still chuckling.
Great story most of the way around just wish there were more follow-ups -- has something happened to the author?

Leann Harris has written a very good book, it has suspense, rescue, romance and the evil family that is trying to ruin it all.
Matthew "Hawk" Hawkins has to protect his old flame, Renee Girouard, who is pregnant with his child, from someone who is trying to kill her. Renee has just found out her boss is really her father and his heir, which sets her up as very unpopular with his family.
This is a book where everyone is suspect, but hard to determine the guilty party. I enjoyied it very much and think it is a good addition to your library.
Hope Ms. Harris will write a book about Hawk's friend and ex-partner Tony "Ash" Ashcroft.

I can always count on this author for a pleasing blend of classic romance elements and spine-tingling suspense--not to mention steamy, satisfying love scenes and great sexual tension throughout. Shotgun Bride is no exception!

JACQUELINE DIAMOND is consistently one of the best humorous romance writers throughout the years! THE COWBOY AND THE SHOTGUN BRIDE is the first of the three books of "The Brides" series for Harlequin American Romance, which includes and A BACHELOR FOR THE BRIDE by Mindy Neff and THE HOG-TIED GROOM. I strongly recommend it!

Oh, the chuckles start coming when Ritter Sloane is caught by Hallie Benteen's triplet brothers, Micah, Shad and Jericho. He was only trying to save her life.
He had come to throw the Benteen family off their land - Now it was marry Hallie or else. Ritter Sloane was Wyoming's most notorious gunslinger. And their marriage, which sure wasn't made in heaven was taking off in a blaze of clashing desires.
Hallie Benteen was described as a backwoods beauty who became a shotgun bride to a most handsome hellion.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - read back in 94 and sure will be reading it again. You don't want to miss this one.

Very intereting. This book kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next with Hallie and Ritter. Would they or wouldn't they get married? I usually figure out what's going to happen next but not in Shotgun. It was intriguing and exciting to imagine the romance unfolding. An excellent read. Very enjoyable.

I loved this book. Yes it is like the fairytale cinderella but is way more detailed and has a great plot. The characters are also so real. I loved the way Benedict would chase after and tease Sophie. It reminded me of the typical flirtations that go on in the beginning of every real life relationship. The supporting charcters are also given depth.
I felt that the scenes involving Sophie and Benedict were so steamy yet sweet and heartwarming.
I also found it easy to read because evryone loves Cinderella and the story would make you smirk when you realized what the author was doing to make it different then the original.
I'm going to try out some more of The Bridgerton series books. I love when an author includes re-occurring characters.

I just picked up this book yesterday and stayed up late to finish it... It was that good. This was an enchanting rendition of the Cinderella story, but so much more. There is so much to love about this book. The characters are so well written and the H/H really draw you in. You can't help but to feel for Sophie Beckett's plight. She is a strong heroine with so much spunk and spirit, that you can't help but love her. And Benedict Bridgerton was a marvelous hero. He was charming, caring, sensitive, witty, sexy, noble... All the things that make a wonderful hero. This story really grips you from the beginning and wrings the emotions from your heart. I laughed, I cried and I loved every minute of it. Thier's was a believable love. True soul mates.
This is one of my favorites of Julia Quinn's. It's definitely a keeper that I will read over and over again.

Oh my goodness! I you are looking for an easy read, delightful romance, two wonderful characters (and supporting characters), historical type London 1800's romance, this book is for you.
Love the Lady Whisteldown's society papers preceeding each chapter!
I read this in one afternoon. What a nice romantic "romance."
This author has a unique style of writing that I like! I laughed and cried reading this book.

Wow! This book took my breath away! When I first started reading it, I had to look at the cover again to make sure I was not reading "Cinderella", but as the book went on, the storyline got deeper and it was a story all it's own. It made me laugh and cry. I felt like I really knew the characters. They were wonderfully developed. I wish Sophie would have held on to her principles and morals until marriage though.....Benedict was just a dream. Caring, sensitive, gentle, charming. The perfect love story. I have read many frustrating books where the main hero is a arrogant, snotty jerk, but Quinn made Benedict the perfect fairytale prince. I could not put the book down except to run to get a tissue to dry my eyes! A MUST READ!!!!!! sigh...
