Got me into reading.......2007-09-12
Looking through the library in my late teens, my eyes settled onto this book at random. I was a poor reader and decided to give recreational reading a shot. This book was the first to fill me with enthusiasm for reading as it tells the story of a young and passionate woman attorney torn between two loves. I read this story twice and will probably read it again someday.
I'm a big Sheldon fan and have read every book of his excepting the latest. I think his best though is Master of the Game. This story spans an entire century and is a great page turner. Everyone I know who has read this book has found it to be a great read. Just make sure you have some time to read when you pick it up because I promise that you will have difficulty putting it down.
Rage of Angels.......2007-05-24
Just one of many great books by the author, Sidney Sheldon. A super page turner, fast easy read, great suspense and twists and turns. One of my favorites. I highly reccomend this book.
Mellow Ending to a Fast-Paced Story .......2007-03-20
I honestly had a very hard time putting this book down and found I got very little accomplished until I completed reading the story. Sheldon outdoes himself with a tale of intrigue, suspense and hopeless romance. Enter, Jennifer Parker, smart and talented young attorney (fresh out of law school) with only the best of intentions as she begins her career as an attorney in the NYC District Attorney's office. From the start, DA, Robert Di Silva, takes a dislike to her, for no good or apparent reason ever told. Jennifer then gets unknowingly involved in a dangerous chain of events associated with one of the top Mafia families in NYC. It seems that no matter how hard she tries, a chain of bad events in her life seems to befall her, leading her to make decisions that put her on the wrong side of the law. She also finds herself hopelessly in love (as is he) to a mild-mannered, honest, for the most part, in all areas of his "married" life, Attorney Adam Warner, climbing his way from US Senator to the Oval Office! My only complaint with this story is the end. The book sucks us into a plot that is unbelievably hard to put down and then when you expect the big bang-up conclusion, the story seems to just come to an end quietly. The fact that the action became so intense as the Mafia set out to destroy not only Jennifer, but Adam as well (with an extremely "cliff hanging" development), and then boom it was all over. The main characters' stories were very meekly put to rest. I was truly expecting a big finale, leaving the reader with a more comfortable understanding as to the fate of the main players. It seemed to be too neatly packaged and put away. All in all, however, I would definitely recommend this book as a very good read.
Amazing.......2007-01-12
As always, this Sidney Sheldon book was excellent. He is such an amazing writer.
Not good at all.......2006-11-06
Beware of Spoilers: The story started good and went continually downhill. I don't need a happily ever after, but this ending was too much of a dramatic stretch and the Author seemed to enjoy to punish Jennifer Parker for falling in love with the wrong guy. Some plot points were utterly unbelievable, incl. killing off her son, taking away her friends, killing off her lover and Jennifer's true love Adam, who does nothing much than whining how he loves her, but sadly, his wife just got pregnant....same old, same old. I reckon the story is too outdated to be plausible any more. It was the first book I read from Sidney Sheldon and I am not going to read another novel from him.
Book Description
Arguably no other author has inspired more musicians than has Howard Phillips Lovecraft. Here, for the first time, is a book documenting the music inspired by the works of this literary genius, with insights provided by the artists. The book features a foreword by H. P. Lovecraft expert S. T. Joshi and cover artwork by Joseph Vargo.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent for Lovecraft or music lovers alike.......2006-10-28
The Strange Sound of Cthulhu starts with an introduction to Lovecraft's life. This provides good background for readers who are there for the musical aspect and unfamiliar with his writing. It is strait-forward, giving just the information needed to understand how he could still have an impact on music today, almost seventy years after his death.
The rest of the book is broken down into the musical genres he inspired. From psychedelic rock to country, groups little heard of all the way to big names, such as Black Sabbath and Metallica, have attributed some of their inspiration to Lovecraft.
Hill analyzes the songs--and even group names--that have roots in the literature of Lovecraft. The book compares lyrics with Lovecraft prose, and touches on music rumored to have Lovecraft ties. He gives details of each song, and in many cases, interviews with the artists behind the music. They discuss how their music ties in with Lovecraft, how they were introduced to his writing, and even their favorite Lovecraft tale.
Though the idea of seeing the music described in words may sound dull to some, Joshi was correct in the forward when he said, "Gary has that rarest of skills among music critics: the ability to describe a song, whether vocal or instrumental, in such a way that readers seem to hear it running through their heads."
Though Hill claims that the book is in no way exhaustive on the subject, it is as close to being exhaustive as it can get. It is designed to snare the readers that are there for the music to start reading Lovecraft, and the readers there for Lovecraft to look out for the music. I found myself getting out my old music to listen for what Hill describes.

Book Description
Now appearing for the first time together, three of Sidney Sheldon's number one bestselling novels—The Other Side of Midnight, Rage of Angels, and Bloodline—are featured in this celebratory collection.
The Other Side of Midnight is Sidney Sheldon at his best. This page-turner is full of tortured romantic entanglements, reverses of fortune, thrilling suspense, and ultimate justice. In Paris, Washington, and a fabulous villa in Greece, an innocent American becomes a bewildered, horror-stricken pawn in a game of vengeance and betrayal. She is Catherine Douglas, a woman caught in a web of four lives intertwined by passion as her handsome husband pursues an incredibly beautiful film star . . . and as Constantin Demeris, a legendary Greek tycoon, tightens the strands that control them all.
Rage of Angels features the memorable, mesmerizing heroine Jennifer Parker, a razor-sharp but beautiful attorney on her way up the New York political ladder until the Mafia's schemes win her the hatred of an implacable enemy—and a love more destructive than hate. She journeys into the dangerous, dramatic, and dark world of organized crime and flashbulb-lit courtrooms, where ambitious and ruthless prosecutors begin their climb to power, and she travels to her own personal hell and back again.
Bloodline is one of the best of Sheldon's blockbuster thrillers. Roffe and Sons is a family firm, an international empire filled with desperate, cash-hungry family members. At its head was one of the wealthiest men in the world—a man who has just died in a mysterious accident and left his daughter, Elizabeth, in control of the company. Now as this intelligent, tough, and gorgeous woman dares to save—not sell—Roffe and Sons, she will have to outwit those who secretly want her power . . . and the unknown assassin who wants her life. Bloodline is a sweeping novel of high financial intrigue on three continents, love, murder, danger, and suspense.

dark hunter.......2007-03-25
I thought this book was amazing, well written and it really held my attention all throught the book.
Good read.......2007-01-12
This was a good, easy read. The first story was okay, but not the best I have ever read. I really enjoyed the Kenyon story and the last one had to be my favorite by far. For some reason, I can't remember much about one of them, it must not have been that good.
I recommend this one for light reading on a rainy weekend.
Disappointing.......2007-01-07
The Amanda Ashly & Maggie Shane stories weren't that disappointing because I don't expect a lot from them. Sherilyn Kenyon;however, I usually love except when she goes for porn which she unfortunately decided to do here. Ronda Thompson's story was too short. I was annoyed that this story, like her story in "Love At First Bite" fall into the middle of her "Wild Wulfs" series. Readers of that series will forever be missing two pieces of the family history unless they happen to stumble upon the missing links in the two anthologies. Not fair to her fans. If the publisher felt neither story was complete enough for its own book, why not combine them in a seperate small book or add one to book 2 and one to book 3 of the trilogy? Curse you, St. Martin's Press!
Anthology books.......2007-01-05
Some of the stories were ok. I enjoyed Sherrilyn Kenyons story more than the others.
Not the Best, but still worth a read.......2006-10-24
I bought this for Kenyon story and I was not disappointed, what a great intro into the dream-hunters...I'm really looking forward to the first full length dreamhunter book in her darkhunter series. I really like Rhonda Thompson...I don't care what other reviewers say, if you like paranoral romance you'll love her stories. I think some reviewers are more partial to the paranormal and not the romance so maybe they don't enjoy it as much but I honestly loved the story. Amanda Ashley's was good but was missing something. I couldn't bring myself to finish the Maggie Shayne story it just didn't work for me.

Book Description
In the night, all rules are forgotten....
Eloisa James, the acclaimed author of
Potent Pleasures, returns to Regency England with an unforgettable new heroine — a genteel but naughty innocent who gets more than she bargains for when she finally says yes to love.
To her legions of adoring suitors, it comes as quite a shock when Lady Sophie York rejects an offer of marriage from the dashing, rakish Patrick Foakes in favor of amiable but dull Braddon Chatwin. He may be an earl, but it is Patrick's stolen kisses that sear her lips.
When Patrick, in disguise, scales a ladder to retrieve his friend's fiancée, he never expects the elopement to be his own. Neither does Sophie, Braddon, or the rest of the tattling ton. One hasty wedding later, the passionate innocent and the sophisticated rogue play out their own intricate dance as Sophie masters what it takes to keep a man where he belongs. And Patrick learns the ultimate lesson in love.
Customer Reviews:
PLEASURE ON THE HIGH SEAS!!!!.......2007-10-03
For the first few chapters I was bored. I had the distinct impression that the author was trying to show off to her readers that her knowledge of history and language was quite extent. I am glad that I decided to continue to read it for I ended up loving the book. If you have not read it yet, then my advice would be to not give up on it. Trust me, it is worth reading!
3.5 stars (spoiler alert).......2007-08-14
This was an enjoyable read, above average but not actually excellent. I just finished reading it, (I always write my reviews right after finishing), and all I can think of was the last parts of the book were exasperating.
Ms James decides to have a heroine who comes from a broken home (philandering father, bitter bitter mother) so Sophie does not know how to deal with conflict. In addition, in the sake of having a non tumultous marraige, she keeps secrets from her husband.
When Sophie thinks her husband is having an affair, she still acts pleasant; she lies that she only knows French and then Welsh, and she keeps her makeover of french emigre stable woman Maddie a secret. Because it's QUITE normal for a married lady to spend HOURS with her ex fiance weekly. Now you can argue that she did not know what Patrick was doing when he was at his warehouses...BUT SHE NEVER ASKED! She assumed he was out philandering. She blatantly witheld the truth when Patrick wanted to know what the heck was going on.
They also make the mistake of using sex to resolve conflicts. In there first marital rift, they had an argument, he left to vent didn't come home till next morning, she assumed he was with a lover, got royally peeved BUT ACTED NORMAL THE NEXT DAY so Patrick (silly man) didn't know she was mad and then they were cold for the next few weeks. He didn't know what was wrong with her, and all the while she was sad.
Of course they patched it up after secluding themselves in the bedroom but Sophie doesn't learn to speak to her husband about her feeling. Thankfully he learns to read her eyes and body language (::rolls eyes::) so the next time they had a major argument and she was retreating into pleasantry, she saw he was agitated still. I'm waiting for the novel where the hero knows how to read minds.
I was super mad that they whole period of misunderstanding lasted during her pregnancy, and miscarraige. She went through the entire thing by herself because of her inability to resolve conflict, and he not able to show his feelings (he was scared about her dying in childbirth, but instead of saying that he said he didnt want children, Instead of letting him know that hurt her feelings which may have prompted him to be more forthcoming, Sophie retreated into her politeness making him think nothing was the matter when it was...)
In short this book could be a marraige aid.
To summarize DO NOT
Keep secrets, lie, hide your feelings, use sex to resolve issues, take marital advice from someone in a bad marraige
However DO
Communicate, be honest with your feelings, take marital advice from those with succesful marraiges
Plot depends on silly misunderstandings.......2006-10-04
The title just about sums it up. And on top of that, too much focus on bedroom scenes - though this could be just personal taste.
Good Read.......2006-07-13
This was the first book that I had read in the series. Once I found out that there were two others, I went out and purchased them. I enjoyed reading all of them. This was also the first book I read by Eloisa James. I enjoyed her writing. It was very good. I look forward to reading some more of her works.
What's with these Foakes brothers?.......2005-02-18
I'm not sure why Eloisa James wanted to make Patrick and Alexander Foakes so unkind.
And what's with Pippa? This little girl wasn't even 3 years old and she talked like a grown-up. Her dialogue was just too unbelievable for one so young. Pippa's sitting in with two grown women, carrying on a conversation as if she's one of them, and if you didn't know Pippa was a child, you would think she was one of the women. Case in point being when Sophie's in Charlotte's bedchamber and Pippa joins them. Read the scene and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Bloch always a joy to read, no matter what the time........2001-10-25
While Robert Bloch, author of Psycho, wrote many novels and screenplays, his biggest area of success was in the short story. Whether it be horror, psychological suspense, satire, or out and out comedy, Bloch never fails to entertain. Any collection of his work guarantees well spent reading time. Highly recommended.
pretty good book.......2001-08-01
A collection of short stories from the original master of horror and suspense Robert Bloch. Most of them were pretty decent, nothing too big or great, but a few stand-outs nonetheless. I'd have to say the best story was the first one, and the book at least kept my attention. Thumbs up.
