Product Description

This new book is an expanded revision of "Options: Perception and Deception" and "Coulda Woulda Shoulda". O:PD was published by McGraw Hill in Hardback and I obtained the rights back to self publish the derivative CWS to give away at my brokerage firm from 2001 to 2003. Because they are out of print, O:PD sells from between $299 and $399 while CWS fetches between $55 and $125 where rare books are sold. "Options Trading: The Hidden Reality" not only printed in color has 100 more pages and features more dissection illustrations on popular wingspread (stretched-out condors, slingshots and skip-strike-flies) and calendarized spread (double diagonals, straddle strangle swaps and double calendars) configurations. I think what made OP:D in such demand were the 3D graphics and the Skew Library. They are both brought back in color along with the appendix proving Chapter 2's Options Metamorphosis.

5 out of 5 stars Unique Insights.......2006-09-19

After several false starts, I started studying options seriously a few months ago and burned through a lot of books I had seen recommended in various place. Some were fairly good, some not, but I feel they all pale in comparison to this book. Charles brings clarity to this often obfuscated field, and for the fisrt time I feel I have 'grokked' options.

Parts of the book are not an easy read and have to be worked at before things click, but when they do you know you have really learned something new. Other parts of the book are fascinating stories of what can go wrong (very very wrong) when trading options. It's hard to imagine many authors spilling the beans on some of their really bad trades as honestly as Charles has. He also recounts some really brilliant trades he has made. The key is that the disasters were not in accord with 'the hidden reality' of options, whereas the victories were taking advantage of it.

5 out of 5 stars The most advance yet very practical options books out there!.......2006-04-08

This books differs from other books in that it presents not only the profit stories but also the stories about how certain positions lost money and why. The 3D risk graphs in color are great and after looking at them for a few minutes a flash bulb goes in your head making your understanding of options better. Detailed examples of advanced strategies like gamma scalping helps an intermediate retail trader to pickup and start using these strategies. If you are serious about options trading this book is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars how to actually use options........2006-03-15

First I need to point out that i know the author and worked with him on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade during the late 1980's. Charles was a superb trader but is an even better teacher. Options can be daunting because of all the associated terminology. This book will give the motivated reader numerous tools for understanding and choosing strategies for using options to control risks and achieve trading objectives. I know of no book that better serves a user of options as opposed to those whose interest is theoretical or academic.

Book Description

Who of us can claim never to have made a mistake, missed a goal, regretted a choice, or suffered because of another's action? For those who suffer from a constant sense of regret about the past, who feel their present lives have been immutably shaped by actions they could or should or would have taken but didn't, real help is at hand. In clear, uncomplicated language, Dr. Arthur Freeman, a leading exponent of cognitive therapy, and his colleague Rose DeWolf, a skillful translator of the cognitive method, describe the techniques and provide exercises that will enable readers to actually "unblock" the past. The authors demonstrate that wouldo/coulda/shoulda thinking can be unlearned and that this process can be accomplished in a relatively short period of time.

better. It helps you understand why you feel they way you do and how to think and feel better.

3 out of 5 stars Good concept; poor presentation.......2006-11-06

I liked the book. I learned things from the book. The writing style and presentation are offputting - it seems a collection of classroom lectures more than a self-help book.

4 out of 5 stars Woulda,Coulda, Shoulda: Overcoming Regrets, Mistakes, and Missed Opportunities.......2006-09-08

The book had a lot of useful information that is useful and helpful to overcome many problem in our daily lives, but the book is a vey dry read and takes a bit of patience to follow the author at times.

5 out of 5 stars Best Book Ever Written!!!!.......2006-07-29

This book will change your life! Don't waste another minute without reading it. I have read it nearly a dozen times and still learn and grow more everytime I go back to read it. This book should be a must read for everyone.

2 out of 5 stars Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda not have bought this book.......2006-04-15

I really regret having bought this book. If you have made a really BIG mistake with real-life consequences, this book's platitudes will irritate the heck out of you. The author's focus is on cognitive therapy and the power of positive thinking, not on dealing with major repercussions. Darn, another bad choice.

Book Description

At the end of your life, will you look back and be content with how you spent your days or will you wrestle with regrets? Use regret not to focus on the past but to propel yourself to a better way of living in the future.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Old information presented in a new way.......2005-05-02

We all have regrets. After all, we're human. Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda shows us how we can rid ourselves of regret, even the regret that has become guilt or shame. In simple language Shoulda Coulda Woulda helps us distinguish real guilt with false guilt and with feeling those guilty feelings and actual guilt.

Read this book with an open mind and learn how to heal damaged emotions and relationships. Shoulda Coulda Woulda asks us to take a hard look at unhealthy perfectionism. It also asks us to forgive ourselves and others and to bring closure to past hurts. Making good decisions, will, Dr. Perrott says, help prevent future regrets from piling up and becoming an unmanageable part of our lives.

The book also includes self-assement tools and questions. Also note: Dr. Parrott believes that we all need God's grace to free us.

This book is old information presented in a new way. The fact that there is nothing new does not mean it's less valuable however.

5 out of 5 stars Forgiveness first.......2005-02-15

It seems that an essential ingredient in overcoming regret is to be able to forgive yourself. This and other universal truths are explored and explained in this wonderful book.

There is nothing more important than your future, so don't try to get there by looking behind you. James Green, author of "If There's One Thing I've Learned."

5 out of 5 stars A critical topic, which is presented well........2004-07-18

The premise of this book is captured by the title itself: "Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda". The realization that our lives are impacted by regrets, "if only's" and guilt is hardly a new concept, but it is presented very logically and clearly here.

Les starts with some insights into how our regrets for things done, or more impactfully those things not done, can have a dramatic influence on how we view our present. Perhaps there are no more powerful influences that affect us than those we carry around with us everyday. To some degree, all of us are affected by how we later interpret our actions and inactions in relationships and work. Sometimes these decisions haunt us decades later, and keep us from acting today.

The book is broken into chapter topics, and includes quizzes, assessments, study questions and examples. If motivated, I think that one could get some pretty profound insights into current behavioral patterns by just completing the self assessments and becoming more aware of how much we really are defined at times by things we ought to let go of and move on. The section on guilt is outstanding, and is presented in a manner which is easily understood. One key is differentiating between the guilt that is valid and requires action, and false guilt which serves to keep us from doing what is needed to build relationships and experience life more fully.

The book is written well, in a conversational tone. For me, it really did feel conversational as I took classes from Les at SPU and have spoken with him on enough occasions to "hear" him while reading. The concepts are not new, and ironically I was working through them when I met Les nearly 14 years ago. I am reminded of one of the promises of working the 12 steps in AA which states: "we will neither regret the past, nor wish to shut the door on it. We will realize that no matter how far down the scale we have gone, our experiences can benefit others." This speaks to the serenity and peace that is the outcome of many of the same actions Les recommends here. Forgiving others, making amends, learning to live "one day at a time" in the present.

This book is excellent, and I will recommend it to others. Like Les, I would only hope each person really uses it to free themselves from unnecessary burdens and regrets. Life is a wonderful journey, and is often hard enough without the extra baggage we haul around related to guilt and regret. This book will help one take the first steps towards becoming free from the binding regret and guilt of our past actions, and start living better today.

5 out of 5 stars 5 STARS... WOW!.......2007-06-20

This book was a excellent. I could not put it down. I hope there will be a part 2. This was my first book by La Jill Hunt. It gave me some very insightful tips for my own life situation. All in all, I would recommend every woman and man to read this book.

4 out of 5 stars Wouldna, Never, Ever.......2007-01-10

Paige, Paige, Paige what can I say. I guess she was living for a dollar and a dream thinking Marlon would marry her. It took getting held down and beat up to find out she wasted her time with him because he is a momma's boy. But the things he does for his momma doesn't make sense! Why would he marry a chick that he didn't love or want just to please his momma? Why would he put his children and happiness on hold for his momma's sack. Lucille was an evil woman and wrong to tell the lies that she did. Even after finding all that out Marlon stuck with her. See that's what I mean something is wrong with that. Did she do voodoo on him or what? Paige finds some happiness in the end but of course she stepped on some squirrels during the way. Celeste is another evil being that needs to be settled. Hopefully the sequal will put her in her place but I have a feeling there will be much more drama in store for Ms. Paige before all is said and done.

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining!.......2007-01-07

Paige and Marlon have been in a relationship for the past seven years and have a daughter. Paige is devoted to Marlon due to him being a good provider and father. But Paige's love doesn't seem to be enough to make Marlon put a ring on her finger. To make matters worse, Paige has to deal with Marlon's alcoholic mother who doesn't like her and all of the drama that comes with it. In the midst of all this, Paige meets Quincy Westbrooke who seems to be all the man that she needs. Will Paige finally get rid of Marlon and get on with her life?

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda is an entertaining novel by La Jill Hunt. Hunt brought a story that was full of excitement and drama. I liked Paige as a character and how she was trying to make the best decision for herself and her daughter. This author showed how women can be stuck in long term relationships and still not get the fulfillment that they desire. I also enjoyed the drama between Paige and her cousin Celeste. Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda is a true page-turner and is the perfect lead-in to the sequel Too Close For Comfort.

This book was great. There are many words I could use to describe the book but Great! works so much better. I am going to admit I wasn't a book reader. I only read when it was only necessary. But I had a train trip and I was new to the train so I decided to buy a couple of books to read. Well I pulled out Mrs. La Jill Hunt book and it blew me away I enjoyed every bit of it. I didn't even noticed the shaking the train had me doing because I was so in to the book. I read it in two days and I am waiting for the chance to buy the next one. But til that one is available to me I am going back and reading the first La Jill Hunt books. I am glad I bought the book and certainly glad the new book came out this month.

To that extremely short list of crime-solving clerics who manage to be convincing as both priests and detectives (such as G.K. Chesterton's Father Brown and Ellis Peters's Brother Cadfael) , we can now add Lily Connor. "In the most peaceful of settings, she still gave off an incongruous set of messages in her jeans, hand-tooled cowboy boots, army surplus slicker and clerical collar," writes Michelle Blake of Lily in her impressive debut. "In high school she had been the skinny overgrown geek, the outcast, the reader of poems and 19th Century novels. She still pictured herself that way." Her best friend Charlie, a fellow Episcopalian priest, tries to convince her that being tall and skinny now, at 36, makes her not a geek but a cultural icon. Lily is equally unsure of her role in the church: she had been running a women's center in Boston until her father's terminal illness took her home to Texas for six months. Now she's back in Boston, working as the interim priest--or tentmaker--at a rich church whose rector has just died under circumstances that turn out to be suspicious.

Blake, a poet who has a master's degree from Harvard Divinity School, writes cool and sparkling prose that gives her first mystery an unusual depth. As the church struggles with issues of sexuality, her clerics and parishioners mirror that struggle. Did the late Father Barnes kill himself with an overdose of insulin because of his feelings toward the 16-year-old son of one of the congregation's richest members? That's one possibility; even worse is the chance that Father Barnes was murdered because of someone else's sins. Equally riveting is Lily's growing dilemma: what to do with the potential scandal that she has unearthed. "Back at her desk, she thought of the ways in which her life and vocation had always been so clear to her, the terrain mapped miles into the future--mountains and plains, good guys and bad guys, right and wrong, faith, friendship. Now she groped down a dim corridor, feeling her way inch by inch, barely able to tell where she stood at that instant, much less where anyone else stood, much less where she was headed."

It's this quality of enriched uncertainty that bonds us with Lily, regardless of our own beliefs, and makes this such a promising debut. --Dick Adler

          5 out of 5 stars A Lily Connor mystery.......2007-03-29

This rings true of what I know of Episcopal clergy and of the diocese in which Lily Connor works. It follows those circumstantially simple lines in its detail, and I found it a good read.

          2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2005-02-19

I read this book for my book club as part of a series of three mysteries featuring Episcopal women priests. This was by far the weakest of the three books.

I found most of the characters to be one-dimensional. Their motivation was often confusing or contrived. There were far too many plot threads -- poorly organized -- and not a lot of suspense.

As an Episcopalian living in Boston, I found the controversy over the theological issues raised not very credible considering that the book was set in Boston and Cambridge, a notoriously liberal area. In recent years, the Episcopal church has been in the vanguard in its acceptance of homosexuality and the ordination of women, most especially in New England. If this novel had been about the Catholic church or a fundamentalist Evangelical church in the South, the issues raised would have been more believable.

If you want to read a mystery featuring an Episcopal woman priest I'd recommend Phil Rickman's "Midwinter of the Spirit".

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good first novel.......2004-12-31

I picked up this novel after i read "Earth has no Sorrow" the 2nd in a series, The Tentmaker does a fine job of introducing the basic character's in Lily's life with a bit of background on her and how she became a priest in Boston.
The plot is not as strong as the next two novels, which I enjoyed very much.
The novel is full of human foibles and very real emotions regarding people struggling with religious issues. These books do not bog the reader down with theological issues, but uses them deftly in the course of the novel. Good points for the situations.
I think Ms. Blake has made a fine beginning.

          5 out of 5 stars A page turner!.......2002-09-02

This is a perfect book for those of you who think Priests and "churched" persons are superhuman! Blake not only presents a well-developed mystery with a surprising ending she also manages to shatter the image of the stereotypical rector with her character "tentmaker" Lily Connor! Pick up this book you won't be sorry!

5 out of 5 stars An Episcopalian Rates Rev. Lily Connor.......2002-07-17

From the standpoint of an "insider," this was a fine book. I have known many "tentmaker" priests and deacons and have been an Episcopalian for 30 years. The mystery is exciting, but equally as good is the internal politics of the parish and diocese, and the wrestlings with faith of all the characters.

              Book Description

When the Civil War ended, Gil Hooley journeyed out West, figuring that if there was any market left for his hand-crafted tents, it would be on the wide open frontier. But when his wagon breaks down in the middle of nowhere, a community begins to grow around him, one tent at a time, until Gil finds himself the unlikely leader-and defender-of his own town.

Larry McMurtry called his work "ambitious and absorbing," and Dee Brown acclaimed it as "superb." Now Clay Reynolds tells the tale of a man who discovers that even if a place wasn't your destination, it might still be your destiny.

5 out of 5 stars Review of The Tentmaker.......2003-05-25

I have been reading Clays Reynolds' works since Franklins Crossing, and find each one to be even more enjoyable than the previous. I didn't just read The Tentmaker, I devoured it. The characters are well rounded, and truly breathe with a life of their own on the pages. I found myself identifying with Gil Hooley as if I had known him all my life. I could clearly see him throwing up his hands and yelling, "WHAT?!" with every encounter he had with Margot Phillips, the red-haired Madam. And as for Margot, she is without doubt the most vexing, stubborn, irritating, alluring woman I have seen in some time. I found myself laughing out loud each time she would browbeat Hooley into doing what she wanted, and then berate him for doing it with the next breath. Hooley is a man, who through the accident of fate, ends up becoming everything he has never really wanted to be. And as a result of this, is placed in the very uncomfortable position of having to defend what he never really wanted in the first place. And through his actions, he becomes a hero, albeit, a reluctant hero. This is a well written, and extremely engaging book. Whether or not you are a fan of Western Fiction, and if you never read another book of this genre, read this book. You won't regret it.

              5 out of 5 stars The Tentmaker.......2003-02-28

This is one of best tales I've come across in years. The hapless Gil Hooley is constantly trying to find a quiet place to read and smoke his pipe, yet the camp he established quickly becomes a settlement, and is determined to grow into a town. The poor guy, everything he says comes out wrong, so he is forced into situations that could have been avoided. Clay Reynolds has created a winner, not to be missed.
