Customer Reviews:
fantastic love story and a Worthy HERO.......2007-08-30
The previous reviews have pretty much said all there is to say about the basic storyline - but after always complaining about emotionally battered h's - i wanted to say how refreshing it was to read about a Hero's side after him going through the abuse.
I loved how the H recovered from this and how the heroine truly helped him. I could rave and rave about how good it felt to read about a Hero who's had a tough life without punishing the heroine because of it - but i'll leave it with a 'book well worth reading'.

Love it! Great great book.......2007-07-20
Emotionally strong and passionate. The characters really makes you ache with sympathy and compassion. I loved it from beginning to end. My only complain... and this is very minor... is that a few things tends to be repetitious. The mentioning of that pain and far in his eyes, for instant, is used a little too often. Not that it fails to draw one's compassion every time... I just thought a few new adjectives and nouns here and there wouldn't hurt.
lovely story about second chances........2007-06-06
Tess Gregory is a women who knows what it feels like to be all alone in a world full of people. Tess was deaf when she died tragically, but when she was traveling towards the afterlife. she was stoped and told that she gets a second chance at life in order for her to find her true love. she starts looking at the men she gets to choose, and none look good, that is until she sees Jack Lafferty.
a man who is scarred by actions in the past that have him branded as a coward, jack is afraid to open his heart to every one including his children. but when his wife awakends from the loss of blood after childbirth she seems to be a different person.
Tess is trying to break through jack's barriers, and even though he tried desperately to keep his heart from opening to this woman, he can't help but fall back in love. but tess has yet to know what his has scarred his heart in the past. can they make it through?
kristen hannah does a wonderful job in this heart warming story that makes you want to believe that everyone gets a second chance at finding the man/ woman of their dreams.
Enjoyable Read.......2007-01-20
This was a very easy and enjoyable read. I've always enjoyed Kristin Hannah's books, but was skeptical about the "time travel" aspect of this one. But, surprisingly, I really enjoyed this book. I especially liked the way it illuminated how far we've come, and how life is so different now, compared to then, with respect to technology, modern conveniences, medical research and general perceptions.
Once in every career.......2006-08-13
a writer puts together a "Once In Every Life."
This is a romance with powerful family drama, a dash of time travel and it is simply
gorgeous.
I cried a bucket and laughed out loud.
Kristin Hannah's novels so far have been
some of the most enjoyable, intelligent novels
I have ever read.
With Once In Every Life, taking the lead by just a heartbeat
of Mystic Lake.
Her prose is just so seamless.
Funny, too.
Very real.
The family drama in this book takes precedence to a certain degree over romance. Although all the different aspects just swirl beautifully together.
Tess Gregory circa 1993 ends up as Jackson Rafferty's wife
circa 1873 thanks to a spirit named Carol.
Jack is a terribly troubled man, who's marriage was a disaster.
His children, bright and loving, have had two remote parents raising them in a loveless home.
Enter Tess, given a second chance at life, and a chance to
help this unhappy family.
Her gentle tending of these damaged children is poignant and believable.
Jack's painful and slow healing from his torments is well done.
You'll love Tess's discovery of how things are done in 1873.
It is just very, very splendid reading.
5 stars are not enough for Once In Every Life, this book deserves 10

Heading up a team to investigate the murder of a NASCAR driver is right up her alley. The only problem is NASCAR star Blain Sanders, the man who requested her. Blain is well-heeled, well connected and drop-dead gorgeous-and he knew Lea when she was a drag-racing tomboy with grease under her nails.
But Lea has grown up since then, in all the right places. And while catching the killer is her main objective, she's not above making the man who ignored her as a teenager squirm a little.
Two people on a surefire collison course. But Lea and Blain are about to discover that the sweetest victory does not always come from winning. . .
Customer Reviews:
A fun romantic intrigue.......2007-05-15
Great book, you get your dose of steamy romance coupled with intrigue and the exciting world NASCAR as a back drop. The novel really draws you in and holds your attention. I would certainly recommend it.
Exciting!.......2007-05-12
This was a very enthralling crime drama! The sexual chemistry between the two protagonist sizzled, but this story was differnt from the other Harlequin NASCAR romances I've read because it was more of an action/mystery than a romance novel. While it still had me on the edge of my seat, the story contained less details about racing itself and was focused more on solving the murder.
Definitely a winner.......2006-12-14
Undercover FBI agent Cece Blackwell is not too thrilled to be pulled off an investigation so that she can work with the object of her high school obsession. Blain, a former champion NASCAR driver is now a team owner and his driver was killed in a suspicious crash which might have been intentional since someone sent an anonymous letter announcing they killed his driver and NASCAR officials refuse to acknowledge that it's anything more than a hoax. All he remembers of Cece is that she was a scrappy tomboy that liked to beat him in races with her souped up Camaro. He's not ready for the grown up Cece he meets.
As the two investigate allegations into Randy Newell's death, they have to fight their attraction to each other, one that could put Cece in danger of losing her job and her life. If they don't find out who's behind the violence, Blain could face financial ruin and ejection from a sport which has become his life. But is he prepared for the risks associated with loving a cop?
Britton's introductory NASCAR novel is an awesome and sizzling read. Britton's knowledge of the ins and outs of a pit crew keep the reader entertained to the exciting sport. And just when you thought it was going to end, Britton adds another 50 pages to further develop Blain and Cece's relationship, making for a satisfying read.
Exciting.......2006-08-23
I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure I was going to. I'm a Nascar fan and didn't see how this would work out. She really does make it work. The plot is a little outrageous but I enjoyed the FBI being involved. I'm not going to do a plot summary when Amazon and other reviewers have already did that better than I could. I loved the character interaction and as a reader, you really get to know the characters. I enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Lance who the second book is about. It takes you into the garages and some of the fabulous house in the NC area. I would highly recommend this book to the action adventure Nascar fans.
Dangerous Curves.......2006-07-31
HOT HOT HOT --- I loved this book. An excellent combination of my favorite sport & romance; love the plot & characters..... Left me looking forward to reading her next book.....

Dangerous Curves: The Art of the Guitar.......2000-11-15
As a professional builder, collector, and lover of guitars, I have spent all of my adult life collecting virtually every book on the subject of guitars that has ever been published. I must say that at this point in my life I never expected to find another book on this subject that would excite me, but I was wrong. "Dangerous Curves, The Art of Guitar", by Darcy Kuronen, and Lenny Kaye is a sumptuous volume that is thoughtfully designed not only to educate, but to delight the eye. Richly illustrated with crisp, vivid photographs by Carl Tremblay, this book documents a very significant selection of many of the worlds historically important, rarest, finest, and unusual guitars ever made. The guitars' role as art object is usually ignored, but the point is beautifully illustrated here via the authors' insightful selection of such innovative, trendsetting instruments such as the Steinberger, Millenium guitar, and the Fly! I applaud the authors' for including many instruments by living makers, whose incredible works are often overlooked. The best part of this tome, may be the fact that it is a catalog for an incredible, and long overdue exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston. Even if you've seen them all, this book is a "must have" for your collection.Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Just SIX stars from the beginning till the end.......2006-12-30
When you read a book and you are on the book, in the book and upon the book and you can't leave the book; that book deserves SIX stars. This book has three stories that merge at the end; but when you start a new chapter you want to read it fast to get to the story you were reading about before. When you finish the chapter you'll want to do the same to start reading about the story you were reading. You'll end the book in a day or two because you won't be able to wait all night long to read the next chapter.
Turn off your brain.......2005-04-19
Well....this book is totally improbable, full of cliches and stereotypes. If this doesn't bother you, buy it. If it does, look elsewhere!
A thrill and a pleasure!.......2004-07-13
Former FBI agent and computer whiz, Raine Roby, spends most of her time hidden behind her monitor in her 2 bedroom apartment. She and friends/former agents Aimee and Daphne have started a corporate security firm, Partners in Crime. But their lack of clients isn't paying the bills or instilling the thrills they were used to. When Raine's former boss and ex-boyfriend, Calder Preston, calls with an unofficial FBI case that's little more than a contact and a hunch, both Calder and Raine know the job is bogus. Or is it?
Fifteen year old, Megan Mulroney's biggest fears involved the boys in her grade never catching up with her growth spurt and falling asleep in class because she couldn't find time to squeeze some zzz's into her busy schedule. That is, until she finds herself kidnapped and trapped in the trunk of her mom's SUV aboard a cargo container headed for Venezuela. In order to get out alive, she'll need more than what she's learned watching spy movies - she'll need her wits, courage, and the help of two real heroes.
"Dangerous Curves" is two stories in one and both are outstanding. The romance between Raine and Calder is as intense and action-packed as their escape from the South American jungles. And Megan's survivor story makes you want to cry tears and pump your hand in the air with joy. Each twist and turn in this Jacey Ford book was believable, entertaining, and exciting. Here's hoping for a sequel!

Great new direction for Bevarly Brandt.......2004-06-09
This is a new series and pseudonym for Bevarly Brandt. A computer genius and former FBI agent is hired by the man who didn't stand by her when she was drummed out of the Bureau on trumped up murder charges. She now works for a private security firm and Calder Preston asks for her help in a case. She has to investigate a woman named Hope Enslar, head of R & D for a large car manufacturer. The job is really just a reason for Calder to recontact Raine. He is looking for a way back into her life and is as surprised as Raine when the case connects to a very real and dangerous one. Calder has to make the decision whether to stick by Raine at the expense of his career this time or turn away like he has done before.
This was a very fast moving suspense novel with a lot of twists and turns and emotional drama. I particularly liked the references to the movie, To Catch a Thief. Raine is the daughter of a socialite and a former jewel thief named John Robey. A very good read and I expect to enjoy the next one just as much.
entertaining police procedural romance.......2004-06-02
FBI Agent Calder Preston asks his ex girlfriend and former agent Raine Robey for unofficial help. Though she would like to say no because he let her down when she was in official trouble, Raine knows her fledgling business Partners in Crime needs the customer. Raine agrees to look into the trouble that Hope Ensher faces or least her disabled father believes she confronts in their Jackson Motors business. Calder has an ulterior motive of wanting the woman he loves back in his life as he tries to overcome failing her when she needed him most.
Meanwhile a carjacker steals a vehicle in which model teen Megan Mulroney sleeps in the back seat. While the police conduct a manhunt for her, someone sets up Raine as pedophile killer. These two cases and that of Hope will converge in a dangerous jungle scenario.
DANGEROUS CURVES is an entertaining police procedural romance starring two wonderful protagonists of which one does not trust the other, who knows he must find a way to earn what he lost by choosing career over love. Though the various subplots eventually merge at times it becomes confusing especially the attempt to discredit Raine. The lead couple is a tremendous twosome, but the audience will really enjoy marvelous Megan, who needs her story told ten years from now in a futuristic Ford fabulous suspense thriller.

Refreshing! Entertaining!.......2004-11-17
Pat Ballard has a refreshing, creative style that, not only entertains the reader, but brings her message of love at any size. The characters in this book of short stories come alive, even though we're only given brief glimpses into their world. I felt like I knew these people and wanted to know more about them when I'd finished their story. Ms. Ballard brings surprise and intrigue into the development of each of her stories. MORE! MORE!
Comment from the publisher.......2004-11-03
I'm sorry to hear a reader was disappointed in the book, although it's a compliment, in a way, to hear someone feels a work is too short, since people often feel that way about good books they'd like to go on reading.
I am puzzled, however, as to how the reader could be surprised that the book contained short stories, since that is the subtitle of the book and is noted in the product description.
The nature of short stories is that they are short. Contemporary literary fiction even contains a subgenre of short stories called "flash fiction" or "sudden fiction" consisting of short stories no more than one page or a few paragraphs long each.
I'm glad the reader enjoyed Pat Ballard's novels, and hope she will appreciate the novel Pat she has just completed, Abigail's Revenge. Pat says it's longer than anything else she has written!
I was very disappointed .......2004-09-13
I normally love Pat Ballards books, but when I got this one in the mail I was so excited because I have loved her other 2-Nobodys perfect and wanted one groom. Little did I know this was a bunch of short stories and believe you and me that is what they are. There was no building relationships b/c after reading the first two short stories, I have basically all of them down to a science. Very Very predictable and yet made me wonder why Pat Ballard would publish such a book not worth reading at all.

Book Description
Rebecca Moore thought she left violent death behind her, but the bodies keep mounting ...
and they're begging for justice.
Having abandoned her career as a Washington, D.C., reporter to run her late uncle's classic car restoration shop, Rebecca wants peace. Then the brutally stabbed corpse of a lovely dancer is discovered in the back seat of a vintage Bentley being towed by her ex-con workers -- the cops' preferred suspects. When a second young dancer is pulled from the Potomac, Rebecca throws down her wrenches.
Ignoring the advice of her admiring lawyer, Joachim Delacroix, and the concerns of her erstwhile detective boyfriend, Mick Hagan, she goes undercover in a gentlemen's club. Embroiled in the tawdry world of flesh and fantasy, Rebecca tries to unravel the dark secrets that have killed too many women already -- before she becomes the next victim.
Customer Reviews:
classic cars and murder.......2005-08-27
Rebecca Moore is back in another great mystery. Two of her ex-con workers are arrested because a brutally stabbed young dancer is found in the Bentley they were towing back to Rebecca's classic car restoration shop. Then another young dancer from the same club is pulled from the Potomac. Rebecca puts herself undercover at the club to see what she can discover.
This is, of course, against the wishes of Joachim Delacroix (her lawyer who greatly admires her) and Mick Hagan (her detective sometime boyfriend).
Mick butts heads with the officer in charge of the investigation and thus cannot even set foot into the club. Jo feels uncomfortable there with Rebecca undercover but feels someone should be keeping an eye on her.
Rebecca works to get to know some of the other dancers and see if she can determine who the killer is. But she has to be careful. She doesn't know whether the killer works there or just frequents the club. Can she find the killer without becoming his next victim?
I love this series. Rebecca is such a fun character. She runs her late uncle's car restoration shop after leaving her career as a DC reporter. Her reporter skills come in handy in investigation murder. Plus she still has some contacts to get information.
Mick is another great character. The tension between Jo and Mick and also between Mick and Rebecca really makes this series good. Plus add the tension between Jo and Rebecca.
I like the touch of having ex-cons working at the shop. It always spices things up.
Ms. Skillings has a real winner! I can't wait to read the next book. I highly recommend Dangerous Curves, as well as the first book Dead End.
"0 to 60".......2005-08-04
So you think you want a Bentley? Think again. It could have a dead body in it and then what would you do? That's the premise of the new Judith Skillings book, Dangerous Curves; the second in her series featuring Rebecca Moore, an ex investigative reporter who has inherited her uncle Walt's classic car restoration business in rural Maryland.
Rebecca's ex con employees set out to the Dundalk shipping terminal to pick up a car and on their way back they stop at an unsavory gentlemen's club. When they return to the car there's a dead body waiting for them. Of course the police think of them, with their criminal backgrounds, as prime suspects. Against the advice of Rebecca's possible love interest, Jo Delacroix, and her detective boyfriend, Mick Hagan she goes undercover at the club to investigate.
Skillings and her husband actually own a classic restoration business and it shows in the level of her knowledge of automobiles, especially the classics.
Dangerous Curves has a complex story line but it will keep the reader intrigued while it moves from 0 to 60 towards a dramatic conclusion.
Good read........2005-03-16
Rebecca Moore is a former Washington, DC reporter. She abandons her career to run her deceased uncle's restoration shop for classic cars in Maryland. Her work crew is a group of potentially dangerous, but "reformed" ex-convicts. When the body shows up, Rebecca begins cursing her lot in life. She has only recently gotten rid of the body that showed up in her shop. (Last book.)
This time the corpse is a female dancer. The woman has been stabbed to death. The body is discovered in the backseat of a vintage Bentley that her crew is towing home from a race in Istanbul. Rebecca's boyfriend, Detective Mick Hagan, wants her to let the police deal with it. Her lawyer, Joachim Delacroix, all but begs her to keep her nose out of it. Yet hard headed Rebecca decides to go undercover in a gentlemen's club.
**** This novel is as good as the last. The author shows that Rebecca can be even more snoopy than now than ever before, to the delight of her mystery readers. I cannot help but wonder just where the next corpse will appear in future books. Judith Skillings seems to have a very creative imagination as to where the most unique places are to stuff bodies. Mystery fans will enjoy every page. ****
