Avid Reader.......2007-02-24
I enjoyed reading the Kentucky Series and look forward to reading some of the other ones.
How is it that this kind of junk can get published?.......2006-02-06
It seems that all you need today is to have the patience to write a full-length novel - the talent and original ideas come in a poor second and third. This book is horribly written, the plot is cliche, the characters are selfish and hard to relate to, and Ms. Michaels has added the final insult of not researching her topic. She knows nothing about horse racing, horses, or Las Vegas.
I think, besides all of the errors, that the thing that bothered me the most about this book was the stupid names of the characters. Pyne, Birch, Fanny, Willow, Hatch Littletree, even a Monica Lepinsky. This is drivel and should never have been published.
Author obvisouly has no experience in horse racing!.......2004-09-25
I started reading this book way back in August and I've been reading it for over a month and still haven't finished it. This book is trash! A horse just doesn't go to the Derby without prior prep races. They usually have a two year old season and then they have prep races in their three year old season and if they are lucky the horse makes it to the Derby. Another major flaw is that jockeys would NEVER ride their first race in the Derby. Jockeys start out riding at the bottom ranks and work their way up to the bigger stakes races as they improve. I still can't figure out why this author would write on a subject they had no experience.
Kentucky Sunrise.......2004-08-17
UGH! How insulting this book is. If the plot got any more simplistic, I don't think that I could have finished the book. Oh wait, I didn't finish the book. There really was nothing to the few chapters that I did read. Would I recommend it? Not a chance. Generally I like Fern Micheals, but this is a book that should never have been released. Does she think we are all simpletons?
Kentucky Sunrise.......2004-06-17
I LOVE this series!! If you started with the Texas series, instead of this book, which is the last book in the series, I think you will find that these characters have a lot of depth and you become very involved with their lives. Once I started, I could not put these books down!!

Book Description
Kentucky Rich:
Nealy Coleman is no longer the troubled teenager who slipped away from home thirty years ago with her illegitimate child. She's now rich, sophisticated and renowned in the racing world. And she's come back to SunStar, her family's thoroughbred horse farm to confront the secrets of her past. Nealy's shocking return will change everything for her two brothers; for her daughter, Emmie; and for all the Thorntons and Colemans who have connections to SunStar.
Kentucky Heat:
With Nealy, horses come first. So when her two grown children's irresponsible acts nearly cost her Shufly, the foal that carries all of her hopes for the Triple Crown, she throws them both off Blue Diamond Farm, an action that changes their future - and her own. To the world, Nealy looks unbreakable. Inside, her heart has shattered. Estranged from her daughter Emmie and son Nick, she struggles alone to build her racing stables into the best in Kentucky - and Shufly into the horse of the century. When Hatch Littletree, her ex-husband's law partner, pays an unexpected visit, he brings Nealy much-needed comfort. But he also brings turmoil.
Kentucky Sunrise:
Kentucky Sunrise finds Nealy once again hellbent on producing a Derby winner and on showing the world that she's not a quitter. Newly married to lawyer Hatch Littletree, and with her daughter Emmie running the family's famous stables, Blue Diamond Farms, Nealy should finally be content. But returning to Blue Diamond Farms for a family reunion sends Nealy reeling. Emmie has let the farm slide, and she has picked a small, gutsy colt to send to the Derby - a nice horse, but clearly the wrong one. Suddenly Nealy is back in the game, ready to prove she's not too old to back a winner - even if it means taking on another colt as her personal project.

Fern Michaels better? You Bet - Kentucky Collection, WOW!.......2003-09-19
If you enjoyed reading the "The Colemans of Texas and the Thorntons of Vegas", you will not be disappointed in the "Kentucky Collection". Fern Michaels has absolutely excelled in her writing with this story. No matter how long ago you had read about the "Colemans and Thorntons" you will be reintroduced to the members of these families.
She begins the story with "Rhy and Pyne Coleman, who have become absolutley speechless as they watch from a window a stranger getting out of a limousine, noticing a well dressed, slim woman. Before they can answer the door she opens it and continues to walk in past them without a word." Within then next minutes they are about to be reunited with their sister, Nealy, whom neither one has seen or heard from in a very long time.
You quickly remember who they were and the roll they played since we last read "The Colemans and The Thorntons".
From the very first page you are quickly swept up into the story. Fern has exceptional writing for bringing back characters and their memories. I could not put down this book, it went with me everywhere! Didn't matter if I read a paragraph or several pages I had become totally hooked! As with all her books the characters become real. You can see the land thru her writing, you experience the characters emotions with them; she will have you crying, laughing, cheering, agreeing, or not agreeing with all the challenges they are dealt. Fern has this unique gift that the readers get to experience with her books, the feeling as if you were actually there. This book rates far beyond a five, you will want to tell everyone about it! Don't wait another minute, get yours today!
Customer Reviews:
Neely was an awful character.......2005-02-11
This is the only book in this series I've read and I thought Neely was horrible!! She was selfish and controlling and clearly had no love for her husband or her children. She was just obsessed with her horses and owning the family farm, etc. I thought she was a horrible person. I can deal with characters who have flaws they need to deal with, but she had no redeeming qualities at all. It was an awful book, in my opinion.
Is this the end of the series?.......2002-11-27
I liked this book, having read the first two of the series. Some of the other reviewers had not read the first two books, and I think it helps to understand the characters and why things are happening the way they do.I found the events of "Derby Day" to be exciting with the unexpected turn of events. I too, was surprised by the ending, and wonder if it is "paving the way" for a possible fourth book in the series (that was supposed to be a trilogy).
like real people.......2002-11-25
i think its the greastest and love allof your books on tis family.
Great novel!.......2002-11-21
This is my first Fern Michaels novel to read. I purchased the book because I live close to Kentucky and I enjoy novels involving horses and dogs. This one looked like a winner to me after reading the book cover. I thought the ending was a little strange. Not many people will dig up the remains from out of the graves, horses or human. Still, it was her story so to each their own. I could feel the characters and the pain of Emmie. I could also understand the perfectionist in Nealy. But more than anything, I enjoyed the plot and thought the story flowed very well. Family situations like this one that Michaels wrote about actually does exist in the world today, so it was a believable story to me. I think perhaps when reading a work of fiction, one should take into consideration that the words are only fiction and concentrate on the story. We may not the like the characters, or care for the outcome, but if the story is good and you can feel the emotion...want to keep turning the page, then Michaels has accomplished what she set out to do...write a good story. I'll be checking the library for some of her other works. I, for one, do recommend "Kentucky Sunrise" for a good read.
NO MOTHER LOVE HERE!.......2002-11-01
The book was typical Fern Michaels. I have enjoyed all of them. This book ended strangely, I thought, with Nealy packing up the bodies of her dead horses....and dead husband....and moving away.
I can't believe she was so mean spirited towards her daughter, just because she didn't do things her mothers' way.
I was horrified with the epilogue. What mother would not try to understand her daughter, and finally give her the love she deserved. Just because she didn't want to run a race, she left her. Nealy was a b...h.

Book Description
Heartsick and desperate to return home to America, Georgina Anderson boards the Maiden Anne disguised as a cabin boy, never dreaming she'll be forced into intimate servitude at the whim of the ship's irrepressible captain, James Mallory.
The black sheep of a proud and tempestuous family, the handsome ex–pirate once swore no woman alive could entice him into matrimony. But on the high seas his resolve will be weakened by an unrestrained passion and by the high–spirited beauty whose love of freedom and adventure rivals his own.
Customer Reviews:
You have not read Romance until you have read Lindsey!.......2007-09-08
Everything you expect from a classic Lindsey and more. I suggest reading Love Only Once and Tender Rebel BEFORE this great text. James and Georgina will forever be imprinted in your mind in terms of excellent love stories...and her brothers YUM especially the ever brooding Warren who gets his own story immediately following this one. The Malory family really grows on you and I highly recommend this series.
Not the best I've seen from the Malorys.......2007-04-09
The youngest member of the Skylark shipping line Andersons, Miss Georgina Anderson is an American who hates England and all things English. She blames the country for taking away her fiance who left her six years ago to fight in the war. Sick of waiting for his return, Georgie travels to England to get her man with an old family friend, against the wishes of her five older brothers. When she finally does find her fiance, it turns out he's been married for more than five years and Georgie feels like a fool for waiting so long. Determined to move on with her life, Georgie decides to find passage on the first ship headed back toward her family. The only problem is that, since their money was stolen on the trip to England (yet another reason for her to hate the country), she and her friend will have to work for their passage--meaning that Georgina will have to disguise herself as a boy.
Captain James Malory recognizes his new "cabin boy" from an encounter the two had when Georgie was searching for her fiance. He decides to let her carry on with the charade of being male because it amuses him, and he's sure that he'll eventually get her in his bed because of it. Finding ways to make Georgie realize the attraction between the two of them becomes one of James's favorite pastimes, including making her wash his back in the tub, prancing around his cabin naked, and asking her to read erotica to him so he can sleep. When the two finally get together, James is determined not to let her go, even though marriage is the farthest thing from his mind. He decides to ask Georgie to be his mistress, only she disappears on another ship the second they hit dry land, leaving Malory to lament her departure and wonder where he went wrong.
Gentle Rogue is one of the earlier stories in Johanna Lindsey's Malory series, and sets the foundation for the stories that come later. I've been reading a lot of newer historical romance and it's been awhile since I read a Lindsey, which might be why I wasn't as impressed with this story as I have been in the past with Lindsey's work. The chemistry between Georgie and James never really sparked for me, though the attraction was clearly there, and I was never fully absorbed into the story. It was difficult for me to allow the whole "big misunderstanding" wherein the two can't just tell each other how they feel and instead just assume that the other doesn't feel the same way. It was a classic tenet of 80's historical romance, but after being in the 2000's for so long, it was difficult to tolerate. Gentle Rogue was a good story, and classic Lindsey, but it wasn't the best I've seen from her.
OH MY GOSH!!.......2007-02-07
Okay, i am not a kid but i dont want a account but i had to rate this book.
I have read alot of johanna lindsey's books and i thought they were really good, when i bought this one i was really excited and then i read it. IT WAS AWESOME, i don't think i have ever laughed that hard in a book before. James and Georgie were perfect together! I read this one book in one night. This book is a keeper!:)
The best!!!!!.......2007-01-22
This is the best romance of all time. I don't know anyone in my reading circle that didn't love this. I don't care if you are eighteen or eighty, if you love strong, sexy characters, then this book is for you. I personally have read it five times and sometimes still pack it for extended vacations, you know just in case I am marooned somewhere!
Ahhhh . . did it have to end????.......2006-12-05
I LOOOOOVED this book!! It is the 3rd in the Malory series. I had read the first two, "Love Only Once", and "Tender Rebel". They were both, "good", but I wasn't sure how much I really liked the Malory's, and even read some books in between starting this one "Gentle Rogue". I even thought reading the story of James, the ex-pirate, wouldn't be one I would be as interested in, but boy was I wrong, and why did I wait! Wow! This one was fantastic!! I have never read a book, to which I actually laughed out loud before this one! It was so funny - Johanna Lindsey did a wonderful job thinking up this stuff. I loved it that he knew from the beginning "Georgie" was actually a girl, and even after the fact, how he continued to call her "George" the boy name instead! It was so cute! I fell in love with James and his soft side - the two characters were a perfect match. I guess I will continue on with the rest of the series, I just hope they will be as good as this one was. I was sorry to see it end!!!
Product Description
She soared up the ranks of the New York Times best seller list with novels like Savage Thunder and Tender Rebel - and her legions of fans grow with every book. This exciting new novel of romance and deception upon the high seas will gain her even greater popularity. Sizzling with lust and love, it tells the story of beautiful young Georgina ("Georgie") Anderson, who leaves her Connecticut home in 1818 to find her fiance, who has been gone for six years. With the help of a family friend, she finds him in England - happily married with children. Heartbroken, Georgie is desperate to return home, but the only passage she can obtain is aboard the "gentleman's ship" Maiden Anne - where Georgie will have to pretend to be a cabin boy. She willingly agrees to disguise her sex, but her anxiety grows when she recognizes the ship's handsome owner from a previous barroom brawl. He is Sir James Malory, the tall, blond, ex-pirate black sheep of a proud and tempestuous family. Sir James remembers Georgie, but decides not to let on. Instead, he teases her unmercifully, across the Atlantic, asking his "boy servant" Georgie to shave his beard, wash his back and undress him - until one star-studded night they stop their charade and succumb to desire. But their romantic adventures have only just begun....
Customer Reviews:
Gerogie has a lot of brothers...so does James.......2007-06-08
I enjoyed this book. This book follows the typical romance formula, and you romance readers know what I mean. But it was enjoyable to read of a female character that was strong and resourceful. Yes, she did live in a time where she was subservient to the males in her life, but she also managed to stand up to them when it was important to her. The book is part of a series, though I don't know much about the others. But I enjoyed reading about the family members, They had enough personality that I plan to read more of this author in hopes of getting to know Georgie's brothers a little better.
awesome!!.......2007-06-06
This book has it all. If you like romance with some humer, this is it. I laughed, I cried. The first time I read this book, I fell in love with Johanna Lindsey and her Malorys. I can't get enough. I'm glad that there are more than this one story. It will make you fall in love, too.
