Surprised and pleased........2006-11-16
I put off reading this book for quite awhile. I thought I'd wait until I was in the mood for something schmaltzy. I was definitely off the mark on this one. Zeke is a firm "never want to get married or have kids" guy. Natalie is a single, working mom with two kids and a truly wretched ex-husband.
When her son vandalizes Zeke's house & they meet, sparks fly but neither one wants to admit it. Then Natalie's daughter Rosie is added to the mix. Rosie is just like the daughter of a friend of mine. She was a fun lovable kid but she talked like an adult. It was a scream to hear such mature things from a little kid. We used to say she was smarter than we were.
When Natalie's ex is murdered she becomes the prime suspect & Zeke's determined to clear her. The only problem I had was that the ex got off too easy, he should have had to suffer over a prolonged period of time!
This book has made me want to read the whole series!
Another wonderfully emotional Anderson romance book.......2006-07-08
4th book in the Coulter family series.
In this one you have Zeke Coulter, who owns and runs a ranch supply store. He also recently bought a ranch bordering another ranch. When he comes home one day, he finds that his home has been vandalized by a 12 year old. He chases the boy to the neighboring ranch where he meets the kids mother, Natalie. Natalie is a divorced mother of two who is living with her odd family because her rich, creep of an ex-husband has not paid child support. Since she can't pay Zeke for the damages, she agrees to let her son work at Zeke's house to repay him. In the process, Zeke gets to know Natalie and her children, and despite the fact that he has never had any desire to get married and have kids, he finds himself falling in love with all of them. Things get complicated when Natalie's ex-husband is murdered and she is the main suspect.
Bright Eyes is a little different in tone than the other two of Anderson's books I've read. It's not quite a poignant, but it's still an interesting romance. I enjoyed seeing Zeke's perceptions and desires shift. His relationship with Natalie's son was wonderfully done. I liked how that was the initial focus of the connection between Natalie and Zeke.
One of the things I liked most about the book was the more traditional romance of it. Natalie and Zeke meet, are attracted to one another, engage in a relationship, fall in love, and decide to get married. So many romances in books are chock full of angst, denying feelings, breaking up, getting back together, etc. It's nice once in a while to read a book where there is a more natural flow to two people getting together and staying together. So I really enjoyed that aspect.
Another great part of the book was that there were some truly hilarious scenes. I couldn't stop laughing at a couple of them. It's always great when some humor is surprisingly slipped into a book.
All in all, a good read. It's maybe not a serious and dramatic as Anderson's other books, but I liked it.
Rating: 4 / 5
Good book.......2006-03-21
I really like the Coulter family stories. It is refreshing to read books about people who overcome real life handicaps.
LOVED THIS BOOK...DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ROMANCE READS.......2005-09-23
I have to start out by saying that I could not put this book down. From start to finish, I enjoyed every page of this book. This was my first Catherine Anderson book and it WONT be my last. I want to read about all the siblings now!
Natalie Patterson is a devoted mother to two children that you grow to love. Chad, a child suffering from divorced parents acting out and growing up far to fast. Rosie, a little girl that you love from the start. (Although I think that Rosie's character was far fetched for her age.) Natalie has divorced her husband and the father of her children after 11 years of marriage and she lives at her family home with her gramps, father, and sister. (They are included in this quite story quite a bit and you have too love them also.) She owns a club where she loves to sing her songs. Zeke Coulter lives next door and falls in love with Natalie almost instantly when Chad destroys some of his property. He hires Chad and Natalie and little Rosie to work off the debt by fixing all the work themselves. Then, Natalie's ex-husband is murdered and she is the main suspect right up to the end of the book.
This book was very WELL written and instead of foccusing on the two main charcters, you got to read about their families and actual surroundings. Also, the family pet is even included in this book a lot. She is a goose that will make you laugh so hard you'll cry. I wouldn't say that this is a hot steamy romance book, more like a knight in shining armor book that is family oriented. If you like heated emotional scenes between the two main characters than this book is not for you, but if you like simple, love inspired books then read this one.
Great book!!.......2005-08-21
This was my first Catherine Anderson book & I absolutely loved it! When I read the back cover to see what the book was about, it didn't seem so interesting, but once I started reading, I could not put the book down.
Catherine Anderson has a way of making her leading man seem like the perfect man. Instantly, I fell in love with the characters & was rooting for Zeke & Natalie to get together. This book has good romance & an interesting mystery as well.
I can't wait to read my next Catherine Anderson book.

Great book!.......2007-05-14
An easy to read book with nice pictures. My kids love it.
Absolutely Wonderful.......2006-03-23
My 2-yr-old is so in love with this book. She is fascinated by the simple story and also by the great illustrations. It is one of her must-read bedtime books. It is indeed a "feeling good book", however I think it is only appropriate for children under 4-yrs.
An Okay Book for Babies and Toddlers - a review of "Bright Eyes, Brown Skin".......2006-02-02
This would be a nice book for small children about to head off to preschool for the first time. It shows four darling children as they play and eventually nap at their school.
The artwork is reminiscent of Dick and Jane and is very appealing. As other reviewers have noted, there is very little text. In fact, here is the text from the first 4 pages (see below).
Bright eyes,
Brown skin...
A heart-shaped face,
A dimpled chin.
Now, Amazon has the ages for this book listed as 4 to 8. I would think Baby to beginning preschool would be more appropriate as there is no real story here. In regards to using this book as a beginning reader, I think it would be a miserable choice. Certainly there are not a lot of words, but the one's that *are* here are not suitable for beginners. Words like `heart-shaped' and `dimpled', `ticklish' and `special' are simply too hard.
Three Stars. Wonderful `Dick and Jane' pictures with brown-skinned children. I borrowed this book from the library for my entering-preschooler: 1) because he will be entering soon, and 2) because I am tired of looking at white-only faces in books (even though we are not brown skinned).
Not a great read-aloud, the conversations that can come from discussing the pictures make up for this flaw.
Charming.......2005-11-28
The title of this book might lead you to believe race is a major theme. In fact, it isn't addressed except to note that the characters have brown skin. There is very little text, and what there is describes, in rhyme, physical attributes of the four children as they go about a normal school day.
This book is one of the "Feeling Good" series, written for beginning readers. At least one of the children, Olivia, has appeared in another book. Olivia is actually the daughter of author Bernette Ford. The other characters are Ethan, Alexa, and Jordan.
Illustrations by George Ford (husband of Bernette?) of watercolor or pastel pencil show incredibly cute African American kids with dimples in their cheeks and chins, heart-shaped faces, etc. The book falls into that category of story that could be about anybody, appropriate for all; the characters just happen to be African American.
Beautiful Illustrations, poor story........2005-11-17
I bought this book with the hopes of having a great bedtime story for my kids. I was greatly disappointed. While this book has some of the very best drawings of African American children I have ever seen. It has no story what-so-ever. I'm stunned at the fact that two women are listed under "written by." It took TWO people to write this? I'm in the wrong business!!! If you want a nice story to read to your kids - this book is not for you. But, if you are willing to create your own story based on magnificent illustrations - buy this book. My 2 stars are for the drawings alone. The wording gets a ZERO from me!

"My eyes see. His eyes see. I see him. And he sees me." With text as simple as simple can be, Theo. LeSieg (a.k.a. Theodore Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss) uses humor and rhythm to encourage the very youngest children to discover the joy of reading. A big-eyed boy and a pink-eyed rabbit cavort through the book, seeing everything there is to see: a girl, a horse, an old tin can, the sun, the moon--even pink underpants (which makes them both blush). Rhyming objects give the brief "story" a lilting, happy cadence, and Joe Mathieu's cartoonish colorful pictures provide easy clues to the text. This is a friendly introduction to the wide, wondrous world of seeing and reading.
An offspring of the world-famous Beginner Books, Bright and Early Books for Beginning Beginners are designed for an even younger age group. Even preschoolers will be inspired to learn to read with these witty, appealing picture books. (Ages 2 to 5) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
Our eyes see flies.
Our eyes see ants.
Sometimes they see
pink underpants.
Oh, say can you see? Dr. Seuss’s hilarious ode to eyes gives little ones a whole new appreciation for all the wonderful things to be seen!
Customer Reviews:
A great learning experience with a smooth ryming rythm and nice illustrations.......2007-06-26
The thing I like best about this book is that the words and the pictures go together nicely. When the words say "Our eyes see bees," there is a picture of a lot of bees. So, from an educational perspective, you can have your child point to a picture while he or she hears the verbal description of the picture. It's helped my baby lean several words and phrases.
This simple concept is something that a suprising amount of childrens' books lack. It is good for two reasons. It helps them put words to pictures, and it helps them learn to read. The book is for children that are 4-8, but it's ability to help children match the verbal sounds of words to pictures makes it appropriate for infants as well.
The learning potential of the book is enhanced by the rythm of the words. The book's sentences ryme and procede in a rythm that makes the book more enjoyable for your child. My baby is noticeably delighted whenever he sees that we are about to read this book.
It is highly recommended.
Gorgeous illustrations!.......2006-06-24
This is the perfect book for the youngest of Seuss fans. It's a very simply book that starts out with a boy pointing to his eyes and saying what they are...and then to his bunny friend's eyes. The book goes on to explain what eyes do and what they help us see. I thought the pink underpants was a little strange, but they're just kids afterall!
I'm a little surprised that I didn't notice anyone else had harped on its beautiful cover. The cover is absolutely beautiful with its its pretty sea-mint green background and wonderful illustrations. I always thought the boy's eyes looked more like they belonged to the rabbit...they're huge!
To sum it up, it's a cute story about eyes!
Our little eyes love this book!.......2005-07-06
Wonderful book - perfect for our 3 and 2 year old.
Excellent rhymes for young minds.......2005-06-09
I bought this for my daughter when she was about 15 months old and within a couple of weeks she was starting to recite the rhyming words. I believe when the child finds that they can participate in the reading of a book it really increases their interest in reading. I love this book because most of the words are easy everyday ones which we use frequently (even though we may not realise it). Your child will probably know most of the words by sound before you even read this book so I think that will help them to start recognising the words in print once you start reading this book regularly.
A Family Favorite.......2005-02-11
At first, I didn't think this book would be a real winner with my little one. But you just never know, huh? This "Eye" book, written by Dr. Seuss, is read nightly, with all the funny things that eyes can do and see, it proves to be quite interesting. The pink underpants definitely brings some giggles too! It's a pretty short book, one that can be easily memorized by toddlers. The book takes you on a tour of the various things that you can see with your eyes. The boy and the rabbit do everything from looking down holes to looking at the moon. It's quite cute but very basic so if you're looking for something for an older child, I'd pass on this one. The age limit is definitely true as stated above: 2-5.

Customer Reviews:
Sanders slipped a bit here........2003-03-26
This one may be one of Sanders better books over all, but it isn't quite as good as "The First Deadly Sin" or "The Second Deadly Sin". It is unfortunate Sanders didn't see fit to write about the deadly sins 5, 6 and 7. This shows a lack of foresight on his part. Of the four we do have "The Second Deadly Sin" is probably the best. "The Third Deadly Sin" is a bit tiring but still holds one's interest. And lets face it, Delaney will never be a gourmet cook, but he is wild about sandwiches. Amen brother!
One has to have a stalwart stomach to really enjoy the Delaney series. If you aren't particularly bothered by the rather pathetic attempts at psycoanalysis (which Sanders would have done better to have left out) you will probably really like this novel.
Unlike in "The First Deadly Sin" (pride) and in "The Second Deadly Sin" (covetousness), it is difficult to figure out in "The Third Deadly Sin" exactly which sin Sanders is talking about. I figure it is either envy or anger. My choice would be anger.
How To Lose A Guy In One Date.......2003-03-04
This is an interesting serial-killer novel, except for the parts involving sandwiches and Zoe Kohler's suitor, Ernest Mittle. The sandwich stuff makes you feel like you're reading transcripts from The Food Channel, and poor little Ernest Mittle is simply too prim and proper for words. By the time you've known him for about five paragraphs, you yearn for him to meet Irene in a hotel bar very soon, and join the ranks of her victims.
A comfort Sanders novel........2003-01-28
A strange choice for a comfort readI know, but every now and then I come back to read this book again. The familiarity of Edward X Delaney and his delicious sandwiches. The developement of a killer who you grow to like and feel sorry for, even as she continues her murderous adventures. It does not matter that you know she is a killer, it is not even that important how Delaney catches her, I just the style of Sanders writing in this book. It is not similar in any way to his later McNally series, but the one thing Sanders does fantastically is to create characters you believe in.
Super police procedural.......2001-11-29
Maybe Sanders's best book (other choice is First Deadly Sin). Same detective in all the Sin books, but each has a slightly different feel. This is Ed McBain-ish, but (much) better.
Simply not as remarkable as his first...but getting there........2001-03-09
The Third Deadly Sin had a lot of factors that i found resembled the first novel a LITTLE bit too closely, such as the suspect dying of physical deterioration towards the end, the suspect's pathological relation to the act of sex...things like that. Also, the relationship between Monica and Edward Delaney (the detective) really does not clash well with the rest of the story. Who cares what Monica thinks- i think she is a pathetic and dull character- thats also what made the First Deadly Sin much better- it focused more on the detective, not his wife. Otherwise it was a good book. Lawrence Sanders is GOOD, but he was best in "THe Tenth Commandment." If anyone is wondering what one person thinks is his best work, thats it.
