Formulaic but nice romance.......2007-01-06
I've read several of Radclyffe's offerings and this one has fully developed characters (that are typical of her writing, but still, developed) and a storyline that helps advance the romance rather than smother it with plot points. Pearce is like so many of her strong I'm-too-damaged-to-be-loved, characters, but she grows throughout the story. The ending is a little unbelievable (or one that will make any serious med student/intern/resident snort derisively) but the love story helps ease what could be a cynical response to the plot. It's worth a read, but not the best lesbian romance out there.
A heratfelt romance.......2006-11-08
Reading a book written by Radclyffe is like sitting down with a fine congac, or the best in Belgian hand-crafted chocolates, you just know what a delight is awaiting your palate. And so it is with Turn Back Time, Radclyffe's 24th book.
You can savour this one in the knowledge that it is not only well crafted and written, with eloquent flowing prose, but that Radclyffe brings the lives and struggles of the two main characters--who you identify with very quickly--to life in a way she has made all her own.
Like the congac, Pearce and Wynter's heartfelt romance will leave you with that warm glow, deep inside making this is a story that will remain with you long after you finish reading the last page.
Turn Back Time.......2006-08-06
I have read 90% of Radclyffe books and I love them some more than others. This book because I am in the medical field felt real. The love between the women as usual in her books seems geninue. I loved it!
Drama in the Medical World!.......2006-07-30
Chief Surgical Resident Pearce Rifkin is on a fast track through her career so she doesn't have time for a lover. At least that's what she tries to tell herself. So imagine her surprise when someone she knew long ago re-enters her life in the form of one Wynter Thompson, the new surgical resident at the hospital where Pearce is now working.
As if life isn't complicated enough for a resident, the past causes the two women to butt heads at first. However, it's not long before Wynter shows her merit and earns Pearce's grudging respect. Surely they can't be becoming friends! And Pearce is certainly not showing Wynter her `secret hideaway' in the hospital...right?
Working long hours and having to push themselves to a level of endurance seemingly impossible, does nothing to hinder what now looks as a comradarie forming between Wynter and Pearce. Something that is sorely tested when Wynter finds out just who Pearce's father is and how that played into Pearce's current position.
And just as Pearce begins thinking that maybe something more could develop out of their friendship, her thoughts are brought screeching to a halt by the entrance of someone into the mix that Pearce would never have suspected. Will this new person help or hinder the two women's chance of going from friendship to maybe something more?
They say write what you know and Radclyffe continuously displays that she most definitely takes that to heart. Two of her previous books, Passion's Bright Fury, and Fated Love also take place in or around the world of medicine. Along with Turn Back Time, they each provide the reader with a wonderfully indepth look at the lives and loves of women as they make their way in the medical world and come together despite odds that appear stacked against them.
This one will sound familiar.......2006-07-13
If you are a fan of Radclyffe's books, you may find that Turn Back Time seems very familiar. Not only are the characters standard Radclyffe fare, but the plot is very reminiscent of Fated Love.
Pearce Rifkin and Wynter Thompson are surgical residents who met years before in a brief encounter. They felt an immediate attraction, but circumstances were against them. Now they find themselves in the same hospital where Pearce is the Chief Surgical Resident and trying to compete with the reputation of her father, a brilliant surgeon. Wynter has fallen behind in her residency due to complications in her personal life and she's determined to catch up and show her skills have not suffered. As can be expected, the two find themselves drawn to each other, but any chance they might have at romance has to compete with their personal situations. Romance isn't what either one planned on, but it may be what they need. When they find their lives are about to be ripped apart again, the question becomes whether or not they can stand up to the forces working around them and find the happiness they see is possible.
Turn Back Time and Fated Love have many similarities. Both have two doctors who work together on the same team. Both have one of the doctors have a daughter that the other doctor develops a relationship with. Both have one of the doctors face a life threatening condition. The stories are also dissimilar. In one book both doctors are surgeons and in the other they are both Emergency Room physicians. There is no looming father figure in Fated Love and the danger in that book is a medical condition, where the danger in Turn Back Time comes from an attack. Once you have read one though, you can't read the other without a feeling that you've already been in this story. Turn Back Time seems a little flat. It's not a bad story. It's very expectable and predictable, but a nice read for a long afternoon or evening. I would have given it 3 1/2 stars, but Amazon doesn't allow that.

Customer Reviews:
There are much better books out there.......2005-10-24
I ordered this book along with "The Smart Woman's Guide to Plastic Surgery" and "Change your Looks, Change your Life" for patients in my office. These others were FAR SUPERIOR in every aspect-- depth of information, pros and cons, etc. While reading this book, I kept thinking that this read like a poorly researched high school term paper. Rather than clear, concise information, it had a lot of pointless "filler words" as well, causing me to wonder if their editor told them they had to beef it up from a two page outline in order to sell it as a book. I was very disappointed in this and highly recommend purchasing the others instead.

Great Read.......2003-06-27
What great story telling. Couldn't put it down. The characters were so earthy. I passed this book around my family, who are from Kentucky, and everyone enjoyed it. Brings back so many memories. Great to the last page!
A wonderful book.......2003-03-26
There are very few books that draw you right in from the first page but this book does. You love the family, the conflicts, the way it is solved and above all their love for God that shines through. Beware it is one of those books that will keep you up to the wee hours of the morning "just to find out what happens next"!
Turn Back Time.......2002-01-03
I thought this book was wonderful because I know all the places and some of the characters. My great-grandfather is even in it. Our house used to sit on the foundation of the church that it refers to, which is also where my grandparents met. So, this book held a lot of meaning for me!! I can't wait to read the sequel.
Easy reading.......2001-08-31
I enjoyed Turn Back Time very much because the characters just came to life for me. There was a mixture of sorrow, joy, and romance in it, but the best part was that it was a good, clean book with no four-letter words.
WOW! Where's Book # 2?.......2000-10-25
This is definitely one of those books that you don't lay down until you read the last word. It goes everywhere with you and your family wants you to hurry up and finish so they can have you back! It was a book that had me hooked from the beginning. It reminded me of the old mining stories my family use to reminisce about. The detailed info about the mining terminology was very interesting. Do you remember the Little House on the Prairie shows? It made me think of that time period. The characters in the book were so realistic and believable. When I read books like this with so much detail, they make me feel a part of the script. They also make me regret getting to the last page. This book was great and once I finished reading it, it was on my mind for days. It's nice to be able to find enjoyment and comfort in a book like this when you need an escape from the everyday happenings of the world. Grab this book and escape for a few hours! Very enjoyable, where's #2!?! Keep up the fantastic work Lisa and Dale! I love Dale's childrens books, they are great, too.

From the supplier: The use of intercorporate transfers between related corporations by some shareholders in order to avoid reporting dividend income has been overturned by a recent court decision. In the US vs Mews case, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has made it imperative for the taxpayer to show a business purpose for such transfers and to demonstrate that he has not personally benefitted as a result of the transfer.

Book Description
A beautiful woman comes to see criminal lawyer Jack Swyteck and begs him to represent her. She says she's about to be arrested for the murder of her husband, an officer stationed at Guantanamo Bay. Having no expertise in military law and sensing that the woman isn't telling him the entire truth, Jack turns her down. Then she drops a bombshell: she claims she's the adoptive mother of Jack's biological son – a child he's never met. Either Jack must represent her or he'll never see the boy.
So Jack takes the case, with great foreboding. He has an unreliable client – a blackmailer who just might be a murderer – and he has to travel to Gitmo and on to Havana to tussle with people who clearly have a lot to hide. This is a case with as many twists and turns as it has unanswered questions, and Jack may have to confront his own son on the witness stand before he can learn the truth.

Customer Reviews:
Don't waste your time........2007-08-12
I bought this book (hardback) for $3. I paid too much. It is basically a good story that was grossly underdeveloped. It reads like a cheap, made for TV movie.
The facts of justice.......2007-07-09
This is another fine book done by Mr. Grippando. I have read all of his wriings and have yet to find a bad one. This was a interesting novel as it incorporated the life in Miami with the Cubans, the justice system with a minority influence and the usual banter between Jack and his best friend Theo. The plot followed well and the ending was somewhat of a surprise and it was a fine read. I highly recommend the book.
Sex, Lies and Digital Cameras.......2007-06-05
I've been "on the road again", and this time I took along Hear No Evil by James Grippando, as read by Campbell Scott.
Mr. Grippando has constructed a witty, tense and wonderfully written story that hooks you and slowly reels you in, while Mr. Scotts reading keeps you hanging on his every intonation. You become so immersed in the tale that you hardly realize how many miles have flown by until you find yourself sitting in the driveway at your destination hesitant to leave your car until the tale ends.
The story begins with the murder of an officer stationed at Guantanamo Naval Base, leads us through a labyrinth of mysterious twists and turns, abounds in red herrings, gives us an inside look at Cuba's political climate and culminates with a murder trial that keeps you guessing until the very last line.
Miami defense attorney, Jack Swyteck, is more a Tom Hanks "guy next door" than slick attorney, while his client appears to be a composite of Meg Ryan and Lizzie Borden. This keeps Jack (and us) wondering who is she really and which part of her story is fact and which part is cleverly concocted fiction.
Whether you read this book or listen to it as I did, you will be completely enthralled. Thanks to this experience, I have become a fan and can hardly wait for my next Jack Swyteck adventure.
A fun diversion.......2007-06-04
Grippando delivers another far above average thriller in the Jack Swyteck mystery series. Hear No Evil is entertaining and a fun diversion made special with the narration of Campbell Scott. Scott is one of those actors whose voice is familiar and comforting, yet he's not so famous that the listener is distracted by an image of him in their head. His authoritative voice has the right balance of masculinity to perfectly portray Swyteck. He likewise does a perfunctory job with Cuban accents - making them believable without being over the top, cliché, or Mexican. Hear No Evil weaves Cuban-American politics into a fun, action packed thriller.
Hear No Evil.......2007-03-14
Once you start reading this book it is very hard to put it down.
Enjoyed it so much I ordered the rest of Grippando's novels.

This was a good book.......2003-12-11
This was a good book because it was cool and she found out who killed her dad. In the beginning it was exciting because she was on a case about who killed her father. She kept collecting clues to help her to find out. she has three friends who help her on her way. In the end she was on a boat and she heard people talk about killing her and another person. She had been shot at and that is how she found out who shot her father.
Death in the Afternoon (by Kate Chester and Guccione).......2000-11-30
I enjoyed this book, Death in the Afternoon, Hear No Evil. I started reading it with my classmates and teacher. We read a chapter almost every night and learned more and more facts about the characters. This novel was about a teenage girl, Sara Howell who is deaf, and lives with her older brother Steve. Sara's mother wasn't mentioned in the novel, but her father was killed in a hit and run accident. Sara and her brother become suspicious for who killed their father. Sara is being followed, and soon gets messages sent to her by a mysterious person. There are much more facts to what happened in this novel. If you want to know what happens next, you should read the novel for yourself. I liked the author's stile of writing. I especially liked how the author wrote,"gooseflesh," instead of,"goosebumps." The suspense of the book became pretty intense for me at times because you don't know what was going to happen next. I basically enjoyed this book at all times, if you are the kind of person who enjoys reading mystery books, I would definatly recommend this book to you. Sarah, age 12
Great Mystery to Solve.......2000-11-30
This story was well written. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. The suspense was intense and the author made me feel like Sara was a friend of my own and I felt very afraid for her. If I had to rate this book from 1-10, I would give it a perfect 10.I suggest this book Hear No Evil Death in the Afternoon to all people who love mysteries. People who love to put clues together and solve cases would enjoy this book. I think this book is great and it will always be one of my favorite books.
Death in the Afternoon (Hear no evil 1).......2000-11-29
For my Reading class we read the book Death in the Afternoon (Hear no Evil 1) by Kate Chester. It was pretty good book. Some of the parts were very exciting while other parts were not. The characters of Sara & Steve were very intelligent thinkers. The plot was planned out very well by Kate Chester. It was very differnet to who the killer was then who I thought it was. The book almost seemed like it took place over a long period of time but it did not. But, If you like a a mystery stroy that is not to intense then this is a great book for you!
This book was great !!!.......1999-04-15
Last year my dad gave me Hear No Evil 1 for Christmas. I picked up the book it took me a week to read. Last month I read it again in only 5 hours I loved the book so much. Once you pick up the book you can't put it down! This book made me cry with Sara and laugh with her. After I read this book I started searching for the sequill, but could not find it anywhere until now. I recomend this book to all those who were caught by the title because the book not only lives up to it but surpasses it. A reader

awsome book.......2003-03-05
Wow! this is a totally amazing book! It really lets you enter the mind of a deaf person and see what it's really like. The fact that Sara is a teenager just makes it all the better! I strongly recomend this book to anyone who is interested in issues concerning people who happen to be deaf, and to anyone who is looking for action, adventure, with a bit of romance.
Worst Book.......2003-02-20
This was the worst book I've ever read by R.L Stine.Usally I find his books bothe exciting and scary. This book was niether. This book was boring and confusing.Disappointing read for this R.L Stine Fan
Their Parents Are Missing.......2002-09-18
This book started okay, but I didn't really liked the ending that much. In one chapter the person telling the story is the guy and in another chapter the girl is telling the story. You have to keep up on what was the last thing they did. I would not recommend you reading this book, but you can read it if you like books with weird endings.

To tell you the truth i loved the book. It had to the be the best book ever.I read alot of books it was grreattt!!! It was a page turner . I would stay up for hours reading this book . This was the first HEAR NO EVIL book I read but I have a felling its going to be the best!!!!!
VERY GOOD.......2000-06-07
In this book I felt very anxious to figure out who is setting these fires. WHen I did find out who did it, I was surprised. *That person* was nice in a way to the Howell family and friends. Not what I expected. I would NOT recommend this book to young readers, 8 ,9 or 10 due to a some foul text language.(curse words only about 3) But highly reccommend to anybody about 12 or 13 or above.
Playing With Fire.......1999-12-21
I really loved this book.I liked the part.where Sara gets the little boy out of the buring house. When Sara was going to school.I have read all of Kate Chester books.Everyone is hard to put down.I feel like I am Sara running around to find who killed who.I would be scared to the thing that she does. Does anyone know when Kate Chester is going to write book seven?
An A+ Book, Read it.......1997-05-14
I've read all 6 of the books in the hear no evil series and I just can't put them down they are the best series of books that I've read in a long time. Kate Chester should become known as an excellent writer. I will definately read these books again and again. I will give these books to my children to enjoy. Nothing is perfect but this book is as close to perfection as any good writer can get. I would 99.9 percent.

Book Description
The villain Shriek, who uses sound as his weapon, is wreaking havoc on Gotham City. But when Shriek’s stone-splitting sound vibrations miraculously shatter the wall of silence surrounding a hapless deaf boy, a whole new world opens for the supervillain. Can Batman cage a criminal who’s started whistling a new tune?
Customer Reviews:
Batman Beyond To The Rescue.......2002-10-22
Terry McGinnis patrols Gotham City as Batman. Drawn to an attack on a building, he flies down and sees Shriek. While they fight, Batman has to save a young deaf boy from falling rock. Batman tracks Shriek down, but their fight again involves young Tommy. Part of what makes Shriek evil is his own deafness, and Batman knows that.
Scott Peterson has written and edited several Batman stories for DC Comics. He's also written another Batman Beyond book for young readers: BATMAN BEYOND: NEW HERO IN TOWN.
BATMAN BEYOND: HEAR NO EVIL is written like a comic book. The use of panels and word balloons draw an early reader's eye on, and the layout makes the story fun to read out loud. The art is really well done, showing lots of action and color.
This book is recommended for young fans of the BATMAN BEYOND cartoon.
