Entertaining But Frustrating.......2007-10-05
Where to start with this book? I've never read Catherine Anderson before -- I'm a big Lavyrle Spencer fan and it was interesting to read something by someone else. Let's start with the characters. Molly annoyed me to no end. For someone who already has an extremely timid, unsure, and in my opinion annoying personality, the fact that she's named Molly made it impossible for me to like her. Jake was hot stuff of course, but I quickly grew tired of the constant reference to his "blazing eyes, roped arms", etc, etc, and his way of ALWAYS being completely on Molly's side was tiresome as well. I disliked how Molly was always squeaking. This sounds overly picky, I know, but it's the little things that make me like or dislike a novel. Another one of my peeves about this book is the way some of the writing is done. The first sex scene between Jake and Molly is fine until the writing takes a turn for the tacky and overdramatic. I want a climax to be heavenly and sweet, not, I quote, "Molly shrieked -- shrill bleats of sound emitted with every compulsion of breath". That just made me think of a sheep being killed. Lastly, the writing is often repetitive. "Zigzagged" is used a lot in reference to sexual sensation, and the characters are often found saying or thinking "Holy hell" or "Sweet Christ". Now -- finally! -- to the good. I did appreciate Molly being shapely and I didn't mind Jake finding her dimples a turn on. When you love someone, everything about s/he is sexy, and clearly this was the case with Jake. What kept me going was the story of how Molly had so much she was hiding, so much to fear, and it didn't seem like it would be possible to right everything. The suspense kept me going.
Not sure everyone who reviewed, read.......2007-09-27
This was a great read and only my second Catherine Anderson. Some reviewers remarked that the premise of an overweight woman being loved by handsome man was completely unbelievable. This is so sad and illustrates more than anything else that romance authors need to diversify more especially with romance authors having such variability in their own sizes. Anyway another complaint was her low self-estemm which has been fed by mass media and her extremely abusive ex-husband. It would not be realistic for all her insecurities to just go away or for her to just get over it. In the real world there are therapists and support groups for a reason. I especially loved the fact that Anderson did not try to downplay her emotional difficulties to make the book more univerversally palatable-- she made a book about a real woman with real issues. The only problem I had with the book was the epilogue, which is where it departs from reality. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone but the epilogue needed either more room or another chapter, there were a few conversations missing that would have been needed for healing. Anyway I still gave it 5 stars because before the epilogue it was a wonderful book.
sweet nothings by catherine Anderson.......2007-05-12
Catherine Anderson is wonderful romance and mystery writer. Once I pick up one of her books I don't want to put it down until I finish and then can't wait to start the next. The Coulter family series is wonderful!!!
Great book.......2006-11-24
"Sweet Nothings" is one of the sweetest, tender, and poignant books I've read. The love between Molly and Jake, true love, is portrayed at its atmost best. Worth more than five stars.
A great read. Highly recommended.
Yet another great emotional romance from Anderson.......2006-07-08
A good book...not one of my favorites of the series, but good nonetheless.
Molly is such a tragic character, but not in the traditional way. Her emotionally abusive relationship completely destroyed her entire sense of self. Anderson did a nice job of showing that and using Jake to help her see who she really was. Jake and Molly don't have that explosive chemistry you sometimes see in books, but they work well together. The progression of the relationship is well-done.
The little bit of suspense involving the ex-husband is good addition. It adds a bit of a twist to the story.
I think my one overall complaint about the Coulter books, now that I've read all of them, is that Anderson does a poor job of bringing the other characters/events from previous books into the current stories. She gets by by only giving very small mentions. It's rather disappointing. Like in book one, you have the epic romance between Bethany and Ryan, where one aspect was whether or not Bethany would be able to carry a child to term. That issue is never really resolved. In Sweet Nothings, you're simply told that Bethany just gave birth, and she has only one direct scene in the entire book. It deserved more. And it would truly tie the books together if there was better continuity. Throughout the whole series, the books don't interrelate very well. That's about the only thing I think could have been done better.

Innovative approach to flavorful light desserts.......2003-07-25
I have a large cookbook library and this has consistantly remained at the top of my list of recommendations. The low-fat chocolate chip oatmeal cookies are really a savory compromise. I just prepared the strawberry shortcake for the Bonny Doon Ladies Club and it was a big hit with everyone asking me for the recipe of the lemon poppy seed shortbread.

Will Simmons Vs Ken Matthews.......2005-04-03
Will Simmons is gaga over winning the University of Mivhigan Scholarship, and takes Melissa and his Parents out to breakfast at Chez Lorraine,a block away from House of Java. Jeremy Aames decides to Quit House of Java, because of Jessica ana Jade. Ally Scott[The House of Java's owner's daughter] decides she wants Jessica to fire Jade, for slacking off,for calling in sick when she isn't, then comes in with Jeremy. Will Simmons gets hurt at a football game, and the doctors say he can never play again.
Book #20 in SVH Senior Year Series.......2003-09-18
In "Nothing Is Forever," Will Simmons and Melissa Fox are still in seventh heaven over Will's scholarship at the University of Michigan, while Ken Matthews is just the opposite. He's jealous of Will's success, and completely crushed by his father's blatant disappointment in him. I never paid a lot of attention to Ken's storyline before, but I could really empathize with him in this book.
Next up, Jeremy Aames wants to quit at House of Java for obvious reasons--both his exes work there. But Jessica Wakefield is trying to get Jade Wu fired instead. Finally!
Andy Marsden reemerges from the shadows and outs himself to Conner McDermott, but without the reaction he thought he'd get. And Conner...well, nothing much has changed there. He's still stumbling around drunk, as usual.
This was a good SVHSY book, but it certainly wasn't exceptional. Nothing really new or dramatic happened, and the ending wasn't a big surprise either, considering the book title and foreshadowing on page 92. Still, worth a "5" for the writing.
GOOD.......2002-01-07
I rate all SVSY books 5 stars becuz they're all really good even if there are some better than others. I cannot stand Conner in this book. He's angry with his mother for actually being there for him when that's what he's wanted all his life. I mean, he saw the effects of alcohol on her and hated it and now he's turning into an alcoholic. And why is he drinking anyways? He got back together with Liz and he even told her he loved her and she said the same to him. And now he's chewing her out when she tries to help him. He thinks the world sucks when it's just him. Also, Ken's dad is sooo mean. He literally told him he was a loser. But I was really happy for Ken when he got to play in the football game. And I was really glad when he leveled his dad with a cold stare when his dad was suddenly proud of him. I couldn't believe I actually felt sorry for Will and Melissa when he got injured, but I was. And Jess and Jeremy belong together. But I think she sorta did deserve the dissing he gave her when she took him to the beach to prove Jade was cheatin on him, but I guess that was in the last book. I'm glad Jess is firing Jade who, by the way, I've never liked. She's too sarcastic and, I mean, if she still actually thinks cheating on Jeremy was okay (which she does) then she has some serious problems. I was really glad Jeremy made up with Jess and I really don't want him to quit either. And why is everybody just throwing the whole Andy/gay issue aside. It's like he just told them and they were like "Good for you, now back to my problem". Okay, maybe not quite that rude, but still. Overall, this wasn't the best book but it was good.
Good but dissapointed by the outcome.......2001-07-12
This book was really good but before i bought it i read the back and I thoght there was gonna be this whole breakup thing with Will and Melissa but there was nothing!! Actully something REALLY big happens to Will but no breakup. This wasnt one of my favorites in the series but you have to read it to know whats going on. I do believe that besides the whole Melissa Will thing everything is good. You should still get the book though. Conner and Liz are having problems again and Maria is trying to help Ken out with all his "dad" problems and Ken gets his big break!! I was exited for him!! Tia is the same but something big happens to Andy. I felt so bad for him!! Get this book but dont expect a lot from the Melissa and Will ending.
This was one of the best........2001-06-24
I really liked this story very much. In the start they talk about Will and Melissa's perfect life and how will's life could have been Ken's life. Ken and his father keep fighting. I really think his father is the jerk of all jerks. Then there goes the triple "J" story line(Jade, Jermey, Jessica)which seems like it's never going to end. Jessica goes to the boss ad tells her that Jade is slacking off at work and now Jessica has to fire Jade. Jermey is is still confused with theses two women and working with them at HOJ is making it worse so he decieds to quit. Then there goes the Conner/Liz storyline. Conner thinks his does not have a problem when he does. he has no respect for his mother or his girlfriend. I really think Liz should dump Conner he's worth nothing. Then at the biggest football game of Will's life he get's a bad knee injury and might not be able to play football ever again but there's a good side, Ken plays a terrfic game and might be staring QB again. But Maria is worried that with ken being popular again she might lose him. Overall this book is the bomb.

Book Description
In order to survive and thrive in today's financial markets, you must seriously consider the use of options in your investment endeavors. Options allow you to reap the same benefits as an outright stock or commodity trade, but with less risk and less money on the line. The truth is, you can achieve everything with options that you would with stocks or commoditiesat less costwhile gaining a much higher percentage return on your invested dollars.
After numerous years as a market maker in the trenches of the New York Mercantile Exchange, few analysts know how to make money trading options like author Lee Lowell. In this well-rounded resource, Lowell shows both stock and commodity option traders exactly what works and what doesn't.
Filled with in-depth insight and expert advice, Get Rich with Options provides you with the knowledge and strategies needed to achieve optimal results within the options market. The book quickly covers the basicshow options are priced, strike price selection, the use of Delta, and using volatility to one's advantagebefore moving on to the four options trading strategies that have helped Lowell profit in this arena time and again: buying deep-in-the-money call options, selling naked puts, selling option credit spreads, and selling covered calls. Using these strategoes decisively, he says, is the fastest route to riches in the options trading game.
Get Rich with Options is packed with real-life examples of actual trades and detailed discussions of how options can be used as a hedging, speculating, or income-producing tool. You'll learn how to set up a home business with the best options trading software, tools, and Web sites. And you'll begin to see options in a whole new light and discover how to become part of a small group of investors who consistently win.
Customer Reviews:
A little hype-y, but a very good introduction on how to use options..........2007-08-29
The majority of books I've read on investing in the stock market are focused on buying and selling of actual shares of stock. I vaguely know of options, using puts and calls to leverage blocks of stock for small amounts of capital. But Get Rich With Options: Four Winning Strategies Straight from the Exchange Floor by Lee Lowell does a good job in explaining how that all works, and how best to structure your option trading to incur minimal risk and maximum gain. It just takes a little bit to get past the "over the top" title...
Contents:
Part 1 - The Option Basics: It's All About the Calls and Puts; How Options Are Priced; Option Volatility; Stocks versus Options; Why Option Selling Is Your Key to Success
Part 2 - The Strategies: Buy All the Stock You Want for Half the Price; Getting Paid to Buy Your Favorite Stock; Option Credit Spreads - The All-Star Strategy; A Day in the Life of the Market Maker; Put Your Stocks to Work - Sell Covered Calls; A Bonus Strategy - Ratio Option Spreads
Part 3 - Getting Ready to Trade: Tools of the Trade; Brokers and Commissions
Conclusion; Index
Lowell has experienced the option trading life as both a member of a brokerage firm and as an independent trader. His experience comes into play in the book, as there are detailed analyses of some of his trades that illustrate the different strategies. Part 1 was perfect for someone like me who has heard of options, and perhaps knows the bare basics, but doesn't understand why and how they are priced. Now all those things like volatility and deltas make sense. Part 2 is where he gets into the strategies he uses to buy and sell options. A couple of them are pretty easy to understand once you have the basics down (like the covered calls). In fact, it's hard to imagine why more people don't do that. A few seemed more complex and confusing, such as the ratio option spreads. Perhaps with a few more readings, it might have sunk in. But I'm not sure I was prepared by the end of the book to execute those strategies...
The main knock I have against this book is that everything's successful and works in his examples. He's pretty clear as to where the risk lies in each of the strategies. And it's easy to see how options *do* mitigate your potential loss risk while giving you a much better chance of walking away with some profit. But unless you're trading thousands of option contracts with plenty in your brokerage account to cover your exposure, the average trader is going to be walking away with a few hundred or so in profit from these techniques. Not quite "rich", but far better than watching your stock plummet or stagnate over the years. And I *really* would have liked to see him show some of the trades that *didn't* go well. He alludes to nothing being perfect or a sure bet, but you certainly won't see him dwell on the imperfections here...
Overall, this is a good book that covers a complex topic in an understandable fashion. I would have preferred a bit less hype and salesmanship, but it's not so bad as to detract from some good information and advice.
easy to understand.......2007-08-23
I recommend this book for anyone interested in learning about options. It is easy to read and understand and will give you a good foundation.
great for more conservative investors interested in options.......2007-08-12
I thought this book did an excellent job of explaining some more conservative option strategies - such as buying a deep in the money call instead of buying the stock outright. Covered calls and put-sells are also covered plus 2 other strategies I doubt I would ever use. This book does not go into exotic and very risky option techniques. By the way, the title just does not fit the book.
I loved this book!.......2007-07-27
I recently started trading options successfully. The book is right on the money! As it clearly states, you must be right on the time and direction of the market, guessing won't cut it, unless you opt for the delta neutral strategies. I've read many options books and this one is the one I like the most, I highly recomend it.
Worth reading but lacks specifics.......2007-07-12
Mr. Lowell presents useful discussions of option basics as well as his favorite option trading strategies. He gives many examples of profitable credit spread trades, although all involve options on futures rather than securities. There is no explanation as to why options on securities are not included. I was also left wanting for some specifics on how he selects spreads with the highest expectation for returns, and how the he determines when to exit the spread trades prior to expiration. The information on available internet data sources is very good.

Take Me on a Cruise!.......2005-09-27
This is my fourth "Antique Lover's Mystery". When I finished it, I went directly to Amazon, to order my next. But, there is no next! The books in this series seem to have been published, once a year, in the Fall...so I'm hoping to find the next one available *soon*!
I loved that Jeff found Donna, who shared so many of his loves. It was sad to bid her farewell. I was hoping to see her in future stories.
The further development of Greer's character was a real eye-opener, who knew he'd be so multi-talented. And...it was nice to meet Gordy, too.
I'm already suffering separation anxiety...and I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes mysteries, antiques, classic cars, and eBay. Loving all those things myself, and having had problems with agoraphobia...I guess I'm the perfect match for these books!
The best of the series.......2004-10-18
I nearly gave up on this series after the last book. The way the Talbots collected so much of so many objects seemed too much like avarice to me. While I loved the characters, I wasn't sure I wanted to invest any more time with them. I am glad I stayed with the series as Four on the Floor is the best one to date. I loved the "treasure hunt" aspect of the plot as well as the old car storyline. I never guessed what the secret the woodie held. The Burma Shave quotes at the beginning of each chapter were the icing on the cake. An extremely satisfying read. Who knew Greer had so many facets?
Keeps Getting Better!.......2004-10-16
I've been waiting for the next installment of Jeff and Sheila's adventures, and I've not been disappointed. Characters continue to develop (we learn a bit more about Jeff's butler) and the people he meets are interesting and people that I cared about. Jeff's life pre-FBI is revealed a bit more as he embarks on an sometimes confusing crime stopping adventure. A twist at the conclusion makes this novel particularly memorable. Now I sit back and wait for Deborah Morgan's next book!
Book Description
Erich Krauss arrived in the Thai village of Nam Keam on a relief truck 12 days after an underwater earthquake of unimaginable magnitude erupted across the ocean floor and unleashed a tsunami that destroyed millions of lives and decimated the coastline of Southeast Asia. Wandering around the wreckage in a contamination suit, trying to deliver food and water, he found survivors desperate to tell him what their village had been like and how their lives had been changed forever. In Wave of Destruction, Krauss shares the pain and privation of four villagers who made it through alive only to bury their family and friends. Beginning with their fight for life as a 40-foot wave crashed down upon their community, and ending with their slow, confusing quest to rebuild after the last of the bodies had been buried, Krauss unveils the actions and thoughts of ordinary people who were forced to brave extraordinary circumstances. Much like John Hersey did in his acclaimed book Hiroshima, Krauss, a gifted writer and expert in Thai culture, allows the reader to experience one of the worst disasters the world has ever knownthrough the eyes of those who will never be able to forget.
Customer Reviews:
Devastating Truth.......2006-09-08
I highly recommend Wave of Destruction. Ready or not, it places you in the midst of the horror.
At least twice, while reading these stories, I flipped to the front of the book looking for the word "novel," or a disclaimer stating that the characters had been compiled in order to tell the story of the many who had suffered. No such words exist. The accounts are real and each person's experiences are more than any human should have to bear. The stories of the waves themselves made me savor every breath. Many of the survivors's minds were shattered making me want to reach out and pull them to safety, something that is impossible, even today.
After the physical horror had slowed, greed and corruption allowed people with varying degrees of power to profit from (and, arguably, even enjoy) the tragedy of others. How can they look in a mirror? How can they sleep at night? In contrast, the survivors choose to exhibit a level of grace for which there are no words.
A moving tale.......2006-01-02
There are not many books that can bring me to tears, but this one did it. The lives of the people in the book are as amazing as they are sad. It reminded me just how strong some people can be. And just how evil others can be. In the middle of the worst natural disater in history people were actually praying on those who had just lost everything. I spent some time in Thailand years ago, but I only went to the tourist places. After reading this book I know I am going back. I have a totally different outlook on the country and the people now. I think sometimes when we go to foreign countries and do the whole tourist thing we miss out on the beauty. This book has shown me what is beautiful about Thailand--it's people. I think this book will open a lot of eyes.
A MUST READ!.......2005-12-30
This book is a must read for all. The book not only sheds light on the worlds deadliest tsunami, but takes you through the hardships of what life was like before the wave struck--perhaps even more interesting than the tsunami itself. It is a jaw dropping tale of tragedy yet strength. I couldnt put the book down, and when I finished I was left in a shocked state of ah. The author tells the story with passion, keeping the reader locked in until the very end. This tragic true story reminds us all just how much the human spirit can endure...
Amazing stories of four brave families.......2005-12-29
When I bought this book I expected to learn about what it was like to live through the world's worst natural disaster. The book did just that, but it was also so much more. I learned about four Thai families who have led very different lives than those of us in the United States. The book starts off by telling how these four families came to this fishing village. Most of them came out of desperation. Each of them had lost a family member from starvation or through other horrible circumstances. They had no money, no where to live, and would work for less than a dollar a day. For most of them, it took years to get on their feet. They slaved in tin mines, stole lobster out of Burmese traps like pirates, and took jobs with abusive bosses. You watch as they slowly piece together their lives, find love and hope. Then the tsunami hits. I had pictures in my head of what that day was like, but the picture the author paints through the people in the book is nothing like I imagined. It is fifty times worse. Dang, one of the women in the book, spent days looking for the body of her daughter. Then, when she was at her lowest, a company wanting to buy a hotel on her land, threatened to take her life if she returned. Wimon, another person in the book, lost eight members in his family. While he was looking for them, he realized that no help was coming to his village (it was all at the tourist spots) and put his grief on hold in order to get help to his neighbors. Then the book goes on to discribe the aftermath. This is where I was truly shocked. There were actually people who came to the area to rob money off corpses, to steal donations. Even the village leader robbed his people of the bare necessities. By this time, I had fallen in love with most of the people in the book and I wanted them to heal--but around every corner they met with another challange. Things as simple as finding water to keep their children alive. The book doesn't end on a real happy note, but I didn't expect it to. It was a terrific read and really opened my eyes to just how many lives where forever changed in such a short period of time. I'm going to bring this book to my book club next week. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The intricate and intertwining plots and subplots kept my attention for whole minutes at a time. This is a great family book for people of all ages to enjoy - its my grandsons favourite bedtime book!
Customer Reviews:
Okay, but repetitive.......2000-10-13
This book is easy to read in that it contains four short stories or "novellas". However the plots are predictable and the style of writing leaves you saying "What?" The stories could be more original and the writing style more imaginative. If you want a real mystery try "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Book Description
Two Arms and Three Elbows , The Day the Python Pooped and many other favorite stories for teen-age kids and their parents lie in wait for readers. Following, maybe stumbling, in the footsteps of James Thurber, Robert Fulghum, and William Bennett, the author tells stories about raising kids and being raised, about strange science and even stranger istory. Written to be edifying, the stories are true, they have points (sometimes morals), and they entertain. They are perfect for the school teacher who has a few minutes to spend between lessons or until the bell rings, and wants a story for his or her students.
These are stories about envy, gun safety, the terrors of parenthood, racism, the pledge to our Flag, uses of magnetism, and digging up a privy. What more could a person ask for?
