Its all here - M/M, F/F, F/M and M/F spanking action and it is all well-written, imaginative stuff. That is great if you like EVERYTHING. If your tastes are more particular, for example, you are not interested in one or two of the categories above, you may not be enthusiastic about some of the stories.

Diverse and Sexy.......2005-06-29

What struck me about this book was the true diversity of each short story. I loved the idea about erotic stories from A to Z, and this was not at all cheesy in the case of this book.
Not all of the stories were turn-ons for me, but all were intersting and each had a unique perspective. There are stories about married couples, singles, gay men, lesbians, and stories involving multiple partners.
This book was an intriguing read, and each tale gave me ample material to think about in one way or another.
Whether you are curious or have already had erotic spanking experiences, I strongly recommend this book. And don't miss Bussel's essay compilation on spanking, coming out soon. I already pre-ordered mine!

As a working writer and teacher of writing, I feel THE PLOT THICKENS: 8 WAYS TO BRING FICTION TO LIFE is one of the best buys I've ever made, and I've bought dozens and dozens of books on writing and related subjects. I've used this book extensively in teaching my classes and recommended it to all my students, most of whom have bought copies for themselves. Lukeman not only explains concepts and techniques in a way that's easy to understand, he presents fresh ideas --- something that's sometimes difficult to find. The sections on conflict and suspense alone are worth the price of the book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Lukeman promises in the introduction that by the end of the book, readers (writers) will take away plenty of new ideas and inspiration. At first I was skeptical, but ultimately he's right. The topics he covers are themselves nothing new, for they are basic fundamentals, but the depth to which Lukeman plunges into area makes the book an excellent reference. The amount of questions he compels you to ask of your own work is astounding, which leads you to deepen and broaden your writing. If you are well into your own project, it would be wise to stop and explore your work through the exercises he offers at the end of each chapter. The chapters on Characterization are especially good. If you don't have much material written, don't worry... this knowledge can be used going forward, so that you are saved some revising time.

I first read Mr. Lukeman's book The First Five Pages, liked it so much, I purchased this one. Now I like it better than the first one. It was full of ideas and helped me think about my characters in a new light. Well Done and Highly Recommended for anybody wanting to delve deeper into characterizations and how to drive plot through getting to know your characters.

I ordered this because I was so pleased with his first book that set me free from writing "rules." I found it more difficult and I've not read it through yet after having it for at least a month. Frankly, at first perusal I was disappointed, but with a good study I may change my mind.

A Handly List of Prompts.......2007-01-15

I found this book useful for the fiction writer working on an extensive, detailed manuscript. The book is a lengthy set of prompts. It assumes the writer already understands something about structure and the writing process. The book assumes character is king and that plot emerges from character. If your technique is different from this, you may find the book irritating. If you need help fleshing out characterization to either augment or fundamentally build your story, this book is for you.

Guesses on the Harry Potter Plot... to come..........2006-05-16

As a big Harry Potter fan who has read all the books, and listened to the audio versions multiple times, and seen and own the movies so far.... I looked forward to additional information from the prior clues books.

I found them to be a mixed bag of taunting hints, some insightful review of prior books, and interesting speculation about what MIGHT come...

That's the key. The prior works did not know what was to come, as the books hadn't been written yet... and not published... so it was all speculation, and much of it off-base.

However, that being said, these earlier two works DID keep the excitment alive. While not a prose novel, these are more research/analytical works that attempt to drum up interest and provoke new lines of thought about where the stories might go.
As for that purpose, they are interesting and valuable.

I'm not sure that I would buy these for any child who is not old enough to read the original JKRowlings novels themselves. They might become very confused by the questions posed and the form of the book.

An interesting attempt to capitalize on the success of the book series, but stick to the originals... unless you want to pay to hear someone else speculate on the series.

Fun Discussion guide.......2006-03-22

THis is a very well researched discussion of the first 5 harry potter books. I really enjoyed it. I highly suggest it.

Some Good Theories to Chew On.......2005-12-16

This is collection of essays about the Harry Potter books written by fans from around the world. Each essay presents a theory of some sort on the backgrounds of characters, relationships between characters, what role certain characters and events will play in the future of the septology, etc. Most essays are two to three pages long, which makes it a great book to read in short spurts - in short, an excellent bathroom book.

Most of these authors have read the Harry Potter books several times, and have picked up on various clues that you may not have noticed if you've only read the books once or twice. In addition, some of the theories present some really good ideas to chew on. Some of the theories are way out there, but even the most outlandish ideas can work as building blocks to formulate more valid theories.

If you are a big fan of the Harry Potter books and would like something to read that may deepen your understanding of the magical world created by JK Rowling, then I would definitely recommend this book. There are only a few possible drawbacks that I might bring up. One is that this book was published between books 5 and 6, so some of the theories are a bit outdated now that we have been given much more information in the latest book. There are also a few errors that a perfectionist such as myself has to laugh at, but I suppose that's understandable when the authors are devoted fans rather than professional writers. Finally, if you've already spent hours reading through online forums discussing the Harry Potter books, then you might not find too much new here. I wouldn't know because I just don't have the time for all that, but this book seems to provide a pretty succinct summary of all the discussions that have gone on amongst Harry Potter fans on the web forums.

All in all, however, I really am enjoying this book. I'm currently on my second read-through of the series, so it's really interesting when I'm reading an essay that discusses an event that I just read through the day before.

I thought this book was great. The only problem I had with it was that some evidence supplied for the theories had been confirmed or unconfirmed at the time of printing so the theory was proved or disproved already. Maybe a bit extra proofreading for the next one. Other than that it was fantastic

This series of shorts is lots of fun. As you read through, you can't help but look for the "Thick fog, thick steak, and thick book" that are present in different forms in all of the stories.

I am not sure what caused me to pick up this book, as I am not usually a mystery reader. I liked the idea of all of the stories having the three elements of a thick book, a thick steak, and a thick fog. It was interesting to see how each author wove them into their story.
I enjoyed almost all of the stories. The one that I wasn't able to finish was the one written by Walter Moseley.
It was a good way to catch a glimpse of the writing styles of authors I have never read before. I applaud each of them for contributing to a very worthy cause.
