Customer Reviews:
Almost Completely Useless.......2004-08-07
This book was used as a text for an electro-optic devices class that I took. I can honestly say that the book was almost completely useless to me throughout the course. Topics are covered very poorly if at all and good explanations are few and far between. You would be much better off using other books, neighbor kids or indeed rubbing sand in your eyes rather than try to use this book.
this book is sloppy and unuseful.......1999-09-09
This book is written by someone who obviously understands the subject very well, but isn't very good at presenting it. The equations contain many mistakes and none of the terms are properly presented. Any other book on the same subject would be better. If the author simply referred the reader to another book, he'd be saving the reader a lot of time.

Book Description
Unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and riveting suspense: These are the trademarks of beloved author Judith McNaught. With millions of devoted fans and ten New York Times bestsellers to date, McNaught is a writer whose work just gets better with each new novel–and Every Breath You Take is the book readers have been waiting for. Returning to the lavish Chicago setting of her popular novel Paradise, and revisiting some of that book’s characters as well, this story will captivate in inimitable Judith McNaught style.
High atop a snow-covered hill, the stately old Wyatt mansion is perched like a crown, its stone spires pointing upward, its stained glass windows glowing like colorful jewels. Such opulence means success and, surely, happiness. But on the eve of wealthy philanthropist Cecil Wyatt’s eightieth birthday, all the money in the world won’t bring back his missing grandson, William Wyatt. The only thing for certain: Foul play was involved.
The family, the police, the media–all have tried in vain to discover the young man’s fate. Now suspicion has turned shockingly toward William’s own half-brother, the rather distant and enigmatic Mitchell Wyatt.
Kate Donovan never dreamed that a chance romantic encounter on a tropical island paradise would tag her as a suspect in a high-society murder case. But after Kate tangles with the darkly charismatic Mitchell Wyatt, she finds herself cast in a shadow of guilt and mistrust. As the Chicago police tighten their net, it will take all of Kate’s ingenuity to clear her name. With her calm, cool wit, and the help of a man who may or may not be a dangerous catch, Kate vows to claim the life and love she desires.
From the Hardcover edition.

Customer Reviews:
great read--this had a little bit of everything.......2007-09-23
read this in one night, it was great. as usual judith mcnaught has written another favorite book for me. kate met mitchell while on vacation, one day changes everything... you never know who to trust...i want to say so much more, but don't want to give it away. you won't be dissapointed in this book, except it is too short.
Great crime - dont expect the same style as a historical McNaught.......2007-08-08
Meet another friend of Matt Farrell (Paradise) and Zack Benedict (Perfect), Mitchell Wyatt. He's an enigmatic self-made man, an illegitimate son coldly and disdainfully palmed off by the Chicago Wyatt family onto various international foster families when he was a child, but moved before he could form close attachments. He might have been raised with some of the family's wealth, but he's more than made his own fortune and now doesn't want to have anything to do with them. Understandable! Out of the blue his half-brother William discovers Mitch's existence, and delightedly takes his wife and teenage son to meet Mitch - and the emotionally controlled Mitch bends a little under William's eager affection for his `new' brother. Then, shockingly, William goes missing, feared dead, and police suspicion falls heavily onto Mitch - the new Wyatt `heir'! Kate Donovan knows nothing of this when she takes a brief island holiday on St. Maarten's following her father's death. Her long-time lover, lawyer Evan Bartlett (whose lawyer father colluded with the Wyatts to banish Mitch from the family) can't join her due to work pressures, and Kate runs into Mitch at the hotel café. Their attraction is instant, hot, and somewhat illicit, given Kate's stay is being paid for by another man... Too late! She and Mitch have a raunchy, blazing affair. Then something happens that splits them apart and wrecks any chance of a future relationship; a huge misunderstanding `a la McNaught'. Oh, the secrets and lies! Primarily a character driven book, it's still difficult to know who to trust in this high stakes story of murder, danger, deception and love. A true `McNaught' at its finest!
My favorite Judith McNaught novel!.......2007-06-11
I own and have read every novel by this author, including her contemporary first novels. This is her best! Her two main characters, despite a misunderstanding in the middle of the book, actually like each other - something that surprisingly cannot be taken for granted! Both are strong people whose romance enrich their lives. Fortunately, the murder "mystery" does not consume the story. Her supporting characters are not as well developed as in some of her other novels but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that "Gray Elliot" gets his own story next!
Good book, but not complex.......2007-05-07
I dont believe that Judith Mcnaught could ever write a bad novel, and though this book provided a good story, it lacked spark. Though we were able to see how they fell in love and why, the chemistry between the two characters seemed to be lacking and the heroine is not portrayed as a strong, unique individual that we typically see in Mcnaught's novels. However this was a great story and definitely believable. Definitely one to add to the collection if you are a Mcnaught's fan and she even brings back the characters from some of her other contemporary novels.
Frustrating separation, but still a good story.......2007-04-30
I understand the author had to rush to make the publication deadline in the initial book. As a result, she did not provide enough details about Mitchell's feelings toward the end and Kate's, Danny's and Mitchell's new relationships together at the end. I understand that a Special Edition of this story was later published which added these kinds of details, but I did not read it. CAUTION SPOILER: I was troubled by the cause of their separation on the island. All they had to do was speak to each other in person, but each one of them made an erroneous assumption which led to their being apart for the next two and a half years. Her actions were the worst because she had an appointment to meet him at a certain location which she did not show up for or cancel. There was suspense and frustration while reading the book but the ending was happy. Sexual content: mild.

AMERICA'S #1 TRUE-CRIME WRITER FULFILLS A MURDER VICTIM'S DESPERATE PLEA -- WITH THIS SHATTERING NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
"If anything ever happens to me...
find Ann Rule and ask her to write my story."
In perhaps the first true-crime book written at the victim's request, Ann Rule untangles a web of lies and brutality that culminated in the murder of Sheila Blackthorne Bellush -- a woman Rule never met, but whose shocking story she now chronicles with compassion, exacting detail, and unvarnished candor. Although happily ensconced in a loving second marriage, and a new family of quadruplets, Sheila never truly escaped the vicious enslavement of her ex-husband, multi-millionaire Allen Blackthorne, a handsome charmer -- and a violent, controlling sociopath who subjected Sheila to unthinkable abuse in their marriage, and terrorized her for a decade after their divorce. When Sheila was slain in her home, in the presence of her four toddlers, authorities raced to link the crime to Blackthorne, the man who vowed to monitor Sheila's every move in his obsessive quest for power and revenge.
Download Description
If anything ever happens to me, promise me that you will see that there is an investigation....And find Ann Rule and ask her to write my story," Sheila Blackthorne Bellush told her sister after she divorced multimillionaire Allen Blackthorne. Now, in perhaps the first book ever written at a victim's request, America's Number One bestselling true-crime writer, Ann Rule, untangles a horrific web of lies that culminated in Sheila's savage murder more than ten years after she left Blackthorne. When beautiful, blond Sheila married the charming, handsome Blackthorne, she was convinced she had found her perfect soul mate, and helped him reach his goal of living the privileged life of the country club set. But behind Allen's smooth facade, she discovered a violent, controlling sociopath -- a liar, a scam artist, a sexual deviant. When she finally fled with their two young daughters, she was skeletally thin, bruised, and beaten. Although Sheila recovered, remarried, and was starting a new life and family, she still felt she was doomed. Joyously pregnant, she and her new husband expecting quadruplets, Sheila still feared Blackthorne, who had sworn to her he would monitor her every move and "every breath you take." And, in fact, Blackthorne inevitably tracked her down, as did her killer, who left her in a pool of blood marked by the tiny footprints of her two-year-old toddlers. The questions remained: Could the authorities ever link Sheila's murder to Blackthorne himself? Was his true obsession high-stakes golf and his extravagant pink mansion -- or was it to destroy Sheila? Following a trail of deception from Oregon and Hawaii to Texas and Florida, Ann Rule gained complete access to Sheila's family, friends, and neighbors, as well as to the detectives and prosecutors on the case. With Every Breath You Take, Ann Rule has written a heart-pounding account of obsession, revenge, and murder that will enthrall readers from beginning to end.
Customer Reviews:
Too long and drawn out.......2007-08-13
This book is filled with extraneous stuff that could have well been left out. I've loved all the other Rule books I've read, but this one was a real let down for me. It would have been good being half as long.
I think it would have been better not written at all, and possibly the request by the victim to have Anne write it clouded her better judgement.
A Man Who Can't Let Go!.......2007-06-23
Of course, Sheila Bullush said that if she was murdered that Ann Rule should write a book about it. For Ann Rule, she kept a promise from an unknown woman. This book is about the troubled marriage that ended in a nasty divorce. Her former husband can't let her go without her. It's more of a male ego and pride than anything else. She left him, divorced him, remarried, and gave birth to quadruplets (4 babies at a time) with the help of fertility treatments. She also had two daughters from a prior marriage, the nasty one. Sheila is murdered but she thought she was safe from her ex. We read about how the four babies are found with their mother's blood on them. Her husband had hired a hitman to kill her. I feel sorry for her two older daughters who loved their father and torn in a nasty divorce. One of them reluctantly revealed the location of their mother's whereabouts. After all, they didn't think their father would go so far. Regarding Sheila, I don't know much to make a judgment about her. She was a fan of Ann Rule but she was torn, troubled, and always hiding and living in constant fear of an ex-husband from hell. I have sympathy and empathy for her second husband who became her widower and the father of four young children.
Best Bet.......2007-01-26
I have never been disappointed by an Ann Rule book. All are page turners. Though, this is not one of my favorite books from her, it will still have you up reading late. Also try "Stranger Beside Me" and "Small Sacrifices".
600 pages should have been 300!.......2006-12-30
The story is interesting but way, way too long. Ann Rule's books keep getting worse. Her first books were great but have gone down hill lately. Some are nothing more than old newspaper articles put into book form. This one is half filler material about houses, cities, wedding dress descriptions.........yawn. I'm done spending good money on bad Ann Rule books.
Can't get passed the 30th page........2006-07-30
I would not tell anyone to read this book. [No offense to the family it's about] but I wanted a book I could get so into I wouldn't put the book down, this book -- I couldn't keep reading. It's way too boring in the first 30 pages, I just gave up with it. A waste of my money.
Book Description
This book reveals a natural treatment for asthma and other breathing disorders that helps adults and children, no matter how severe their condition. It explains the effective control of asthma with a simple breathing technique, the Buteyko method.
Sixteen million Americans suffer from asthma, and traditional research has failed to explain why. This book explores the physiology of the disease and gives new hope for effective treatment! It gives a full description of the technique, all the medical theory, and the wonderful case histories of people who have been relieved from their crippling asthma. It is the result of six years of research and observation by its author, a General Practitioner who now makes this benign, natural treatment of asthma known to all.
Customer Reviews:
No substantial information.......2003-06-22
This book is basically a pamphlet for the Buteyko method and those that teach it. It briefly describes the Buteyko theory behind asthma, a bunch of testimonials, a history of Dr. Buteyko and the practice of his technique, and the goals of the technique. This information is freely available in equal or greater depth on the internet. I don't find testimonials to be terribly convincing. This book does not teach one how to do the Buteyko technique, claiming that it must be done under the close supervision of a properly trained person. As such, this book is worthless.

un-put-down-able!.......2006-03-13
I bought this when it was first out in paper in the UK, and liked it well enough to keep. Last week I was scanning the shelves for something put-down-able to reading while grading midterms, and pulled _Every Breath You Take_ off the shelf. Wow, did I make a mistake.
Not only could I _not_ put down the stalker plot, even the second time around, but the characters are so well crafted that they grip the attention as firmly as if they are in the room with you. Every woman wants a friendship like the one Laura and Helen have built, a refuge as real as the cottage they share, but as open to other people as is the hearth they share with a wonderful variety of secondary characters.
Laura's work and love partner, Sonny, is an almost too-good-to-be-true sensitive new age guy, but the author keeps his page-time to a minimum, thus preserving his credibility. The people whom Laura meets in the course of the investigation are all wonderfully varied -- quirky or steady or fragile or pompous. Angel, a character who has a key minor role, is exquisitely drawn and given a depth and complexity of feeling that never topples into stereotype or bathos.
Spring does places particularly well. Her London, Cambridge, Norfolk settings all ring true in different ways, all open windows with real views, sights, sounds, smells and atmosphere that the reader can move into. Her insights into college departmental politics are also wickedly realistic.
And yes, it is frightening. It's a hard balance to get a capable woman to feel at risk, but with Laura Principal, Spring manages to make the danger real without making the woman either a cowering victim or a risk-taking idiot. The plot is brisk, believable, and packed with enough twists to keep a reader from feeling comfortable. You can see the end coming before either Laura or the police get there, but that simply increases the tension for the reader.
Buy it and keep it to read again!
Lots of great characters.......2005-08-11
The back of the book says: London-based P.I. Laura Principal and her old college friend Helen Cochrane love Wildfell cottage, their weekend retreat on the Norfolk coast. But lately the upkeep has been a burden. A friend recommends an art teacher, Monica Harcourt, to share the expenses- yet when they meet, Laura is uncomfortable with Monica, whose sunny personality is overshadowed by unexplained bouts of fearfulness. Laura discovers too late why Monica was so afraid. Someone was stalking her- someone who left her slashed and bludgeoned body in her Cambridge flat. Flooded with shock, grief, and guilt, Laura feels compelled to investigate, despite protests from her business and personal partner Sonny Mendlowitz. But as she narrows down her list of suspects, the killer is invading Wildfell, intent on turning Helen and Laura's sanctuary into a deathtrap.
The book has a lot of interesting characters and fun secondary plots. The book seemed very "English" to me, with all of the characters being educated and well spoken, even the people in jail. I do recommend this book because it was an intriguing read. The only problem I found was that it was a tad slow and a bit descriptive of the settings for me. But that could be because it is the first book of the series.
I like the author's penchant for detail........2000-07-26
Finally! A mystery that offers fine-hewn details, setting an ambience without getting too carried away or too cute. The characters are defined with a light touch, too. I'm a writer, too, and I know discipline when I see it - Michelle Spring writes with restraint, all the while crafting a believable and captivating mystery. I liked this book so much - and I have read a lot of mysteries - that I bought Spring's Nights in White Satin before I'd even finished the first Laura Principal mystery. This is one likable investigator.
