Book Description
Introduction to Solid State NMR Spectroscopy is written for undergraduate and graduate students of chemistry, studying courses in nuclear magnetic resonance or undertaking research projects in this area. It will also serve as a useful introduction in industry, where researchers are turning to solid-state techniques to solve problems that are not amenable to other investigative techniques.By covering solid-state NMR spectroscopy in a clear, straightforward and approachable way with detailed descriptions of the major solid-state NMR experiments focussing on what the experiments do and what they tell the researcher, this book will serve as an ideal introduction to the subject. These descriptions are backed up by separate mathematical explanations for those who wish to gain a more sophisticated quantitative understanding of the phenomena. With additional coverage of the practical implementation of solid-state NMR experiments integrated into the discussion, this book will be essential reading for all those using, or about to use, solid-state NMR spectroscopy.
Customer Reviews:
Highly recommended introduction to Solid State NMR.......2005-12-27
A introductory level book that illuminates the basic principles of spin interactions and their manipulation in solid-state NMR. Especially helpful if you wish to get familiarized with averaged Hamiltonian theory. With its basic, simple, and clear treatment of math and terminology this book is an excellent overview for the first year graduate student.

Book Description
The direct determination of elements in solid samples by atomspectrometric methods without prior digestion is in many cases more efficient and reliable, faster, easier, more cost-effective and less time-consuming than other methods. In this first book on the topic the authors describe concisely all instrumental and methodological features, including calibration, influences from the matrix or sample inhomogeneities, optimization, data analysis and measurement uncertainty. Special chapters deal with GF-AAS, slurry injection, ETV-ICP-AES/MS coupling. The authors' aim to deliver all their experience in a way that enables the spectroscopists to develop their own solid sampling based methods makes this book an unvaluable source for AAS- and AES-practitioners.

Book Description
Spectroscopic methods have opened up a new horizon in our knowledge of solid-state materials. Numerous techniques using electromagnetic radiation or charged and neutral particles have been invented and worked out to a high level in order to provide more detailed information on the solids. In this text, new radiation sources like lasers and synchrotrons are discussed. It provides a description of the linear response together with the basic principles and the technical background for various scattering experiments. Fourier transform spectroscopy, pulsed and magnetic NMR techniques, photo-emission, and light and electron scattering are elucidated. Each chapter includes problems. Book Description
A time comes when we just don't have anything left over to give. We run out of faith, energy, strength, patience, options, peace, joy, ideas, and even love. So when God's call comes knocking and our resources seem thin, we tend to hole up and hide from the needs of others. But that's exactly when God's greatest blessing is within a single step, according to Jill Briscoe. He's asking us to obey, senseless as it may seem. The Holy Spirit's empowerment comes when we step into the forward motion of God's love flowing through us - not backwards into our comfortable shell!
Running on Empty?
You know what it’s like to feel drained. Out of steam. Out of options and ideas.
God has given us what we need to fill up when we run low. It’s the incredible gift of Himself. In this engaging book, Jill Briscoe guides you to a source of ample sustenance.
Even as you empty yourself, the Holy Spirit will fill you. And in giving yourself away, you will find life.
Customer Reviews:
Short and very Sweet.......2004-08-25
I just finished reading the book which had been loaned to me by a friend. I am now ordering several more to give as gifts. Jill Briscoe has done a concise yet moving job of using the Biblical story of the widow and Elijah to teach Christian's the principle of tapping into the power of the Holy Spirit. She combines sound Bible teaching with examples from her own life to challenge Christians who are trying to love and serve others in a "running on empty", hectic world. The book was inspiring and thought-provoking.

Book Description
This handbook of slogans, interspersed with historical commentary and contextual analysis, describes the Khmer Rouge regime and exposes the horrific foundation upon which it constructed its reign of terror. On April 17, 1975, the Khmer Rouge seized power in Phnom Penh. In the three years, eight months, and twenty days of their government, they made a tabula rasa of Cambodian society and culture, forcing the people to evacuate the cities and move to the countryside. They instituted a total collectivism based on the doctrine of "Pol Pot-ism," the Cambodian version of fundamentalist Maoism.
Assembled in this collection are the sayings that make up a "newspeak" uttered by the Khmer Rouge cadres: slogans, maxims, advice, instructions, watchwords, orders, warnings, and threats. All were spoken in the name of the ominous Angkar--a faceless and lawless "Organization"--n order to indoctrinate, control, and terrorize the populace.
These sayings have been collected from survivors throughout Cambodia between 1991 and 1995. They form the macabre, bare-bones skeleton of Khmer Rouge ideology.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting, Yet Shrill.......2006-12-21
Locard provides a valuable, if flawed, service here for students of the Khmer Rouge, with his presentation of the slogans of "Angkar". This is not a scholarly book by any means, and his contextualization of Democratic Kampuchea is extremely shallow. Having read Philip Short's excellent biography of Pol Pot immediately prior to this book, I find Locard's writing to be near tabloid-calibre by comparison. He is certainly not hesitant to editorialize and promote his own rightist political views and ideologically biased interpretations of late-20th century Cambodian history. With a high school level of sophistication and an incessant stream of sometimes almost histrionic denunciations (frequently emphasized with the use of exclamation points), he spends a great deal of the book ridiculing (what he thinks is) Marxism in general, lumping the backwards-looking and organizationally psychotic Khmer Rouge with "all Communist and tyrannical regimes" everywhere, and bascially implying that any movement or group calling itself Marxist, including reform socialists, is basically a Khmer Rouge just waiting to happen, if ever given the chance. Poppycock! On the other hand, the translated slogans give the reader a unique and and often disturbing view into many aspects of life in Democratic Kampuchea -- I, for one, always wondered what they were saying in those black-and-white films from the Khmer Rouge years where everyone is standing, fists clenched in the air, yelling revolutionary slogans. Now, it seems, we know.
I give this book an "A" for the material directly related to the translation of the slogans, and a "D-" for interpretation and contextualization, thus two-and-a-half stars.
Original sources, not for everyone.......2005-05-16
I have good news and bad news. The good news is that this book is outstanding. The bad news is that it is NOT for everyone. From my perspective as a former Khmer linguist with the US Military I remember the beginning of the Pol Pot era, the "strange" messages we began to intercept from the mysterious and scarry "ankar," and most of all, I remember following the genocide in the news during the '70's and wondering "how could this happen in such a gentle society as Theravada Buddhist Cambodia?"
This book, which lists hundreds of Khmer sayings during the Pol Pot era in both English and in Khmer, is like an injection of ice-water. I read and shivered. There are several editorial mistakes but remember that the original was written in French and translated into English with the Khmer equivalent also provided. The book took me back 30 years. I believe this book will prove to be a valuable source far into the future despite its niche appeal.

Fun book for toddlers!.......2005-01-05
This is a great book for children 1-4. They really enjoy moving the honeypots, and the text is short enough to keep their interest. It really helped my daughter learn her colors in an fun way. I would read Pooh ate the honey out of the purple pot, and I showed her to move the purple pot across the top of the book. Now she moves them on her own when she hears the correct color. What an enjoyable book to read with your little ones!
My daughter loves this book.......2002-12-19
My little girl loves this book. She loves Winnie the Pooh and says his name over and over as we read this story. She loves to slide the little honeypots back and forth as we read.
Very cute and entertaining!.......2002-03-19
This is a great little book!! It has been one of my son's favorites since he was a couple months old. On the top of the book is a plastic strip, complete with 5 plastic honeypots that slide back and forth. Each time Pooh gets a honeypot in the book, you can slide a honeypot across the top. It's great for teaching both numbers and colors! My only complaint is that the plastic strip is red and one of the honeypots is also red, which makes it a bit hard to see. They really should have used a color for the plastic strip that is different from all the honeypots.
All-in-all, it's a VERY cute little book that has adorable pictures of Pooh and his friends, educational value in numbers and colors, and fun toys to keep the interest. Highly recommended!!
A really good book for kids........1999-09-04
Although Disney did not invent Winnie the Pooh (these were originally written by A.A.Milne), Disney has managed to produce a book that is shocking in its complexity, yet vibrant in its attitude toward life. When we first encounter Pooh, it is at a moment of striving. The five honey pots, perhaps representing his lost youth, or the five stages of man, are tantalizingly out of his reach. Soon afterwards, a struggle ensues. Pooh reaches beyond himself, and in the company of his closest friends (Eyore, Piglet, and Tigger) he manages to attain one of the honeypots. His symbolic gluttony (perhaps a reference to today's materialistic society) is well described at the "four honeypot" stage. The story is nearing the peak of its arc when we find only three honey pots left "all in a row". The symbolism of the three remaining pots is clear. As we head towards the denumont of the story, there are two honey pots remaining. Pooh practically ravages the penultimate pot of honey in a shockingly violent display that troubled this reader for weeks. By the end, with one remaining honey pot, Pooh is faced with a decision - should he take the last honey pot, or should he leave it? We're left to a decision that will trouble some, amaze others, but will leave none disappointed. If you buy only one six-page book this year, make it this one. Oh, and my four month old son thinks this book is delicious.

Book Description
Ghanjs, Marijuanacall it what you will, its illegal and you shouldnt be doing it. However, millions of people do and they remain some of the most creative, incisive, sleepy and chronically hungry members of society. What other drug could have influenced both Bob Marley and Dylan from the Magic Roundabout, or inspired such crucial advances as the Wagon Wheel of the Metallica T-Shirt? It is a 10,000 year old industry as fascinating as the people who use it and significantly more productive. In short, this book is all about Pot.

Great Little Green.......2007-09-22
I have read quite a few books by the pros. However, this one is clearly the best so far. He speaks in terms that are understandable and he explains things well. I recommend this book for anyone in their early years of competing.
Gives you good advice.......2007-09-01
When you start playing Texas Hold'em, this is a good book to read now and then.
If you never read a poker book, this is a great first read........2007-08-29
If you've never read a poker book, this is one of the first books you should read. It will tell the novice how to start thinking about the game. If you ar fairly new to the game, then you will find this book a wealth of information. An intermediate player will find alot in this book as well, although it may never be 'cool' to quote Phil Gordon. Unfortunately, I think Mr. Gordon explains Pot Odds poorly. SUMMARY: For the player who wants to improve but doesn't want to get too deep into poker theory, there is no beating Phil Gordon. The Audiobook version is great for long car rides or subway commutes.
Thumbs up for Gordon's green book.......2007-07-04
Found this to be very educational and easy to follow. Actually listened to it typically driving out to a poker tournament and was able to apply some of the topics immediately.
good mix of theory and play.......2007-05-23
If you like the scenario type reading this book will help you. I get bored with just calculations so knowing the though process was helpful.
