An interesting survey.......2000-10-26
People with a scientific background, and working far from physics (as me), will find this textbook very interesting. A quick but also deep survey of what physicists are currently doing, in which students of _some_ years ago can recognize subjects whose birth they happened to study. Being my M.S. thesis about Boltzmann equation, I found very fascinating the chapters about diffusion theory, particularly the search for dendrytic solutions of diffusion equation. But whatever the thesis field could have been, the wide variety of described subjects is able to meet interest of every person who happened to study Physics in his/her education.

The aim of this book is twofold: to provide a comprehensive account of the foundations of the theory and to outline a theoretical and philosophical interpretation suggested from the results of the last twenty years.
There is a need to provide an account of the foundations of the theory because recent experience has largely confirmed the theory and offered a wealth of new discoveries and possibilities. On the other side, the following results have generated a new basis for discussing the problem of the interpretation: the new developments in measurement theory; the experimental generation of "Schrödinger cats"; recent developments which allow, for the first time, the simultaneous measurement of complementary observables; quantum information processing, teleportation and computation.
To accomplish this task, the book combines historical, systematic and thematic approaches.

This book reviews some of the classic aspects in the theory of phase transitions and critical phenomena, which has a long history. Recently, these aspects are attracting much attention due to essential new contributions. The topics presented in this book include: mathematical theory of the Ising model; equilibrium and non-equilibrium criticality of one-dimensional quantum spin chains; influence of structural disorder on the critical behaviour of the Potts model; criticality, fractality and multifractality of linked polymers; field-theoretical approaches in the superconducting phase transitions.
The book is based on the review lectures that were given in Lviv (Ukraine) in March 2002 at the "Ising lectures" — a traditional annual workshop on phase transitions and critical phenomena which aims to bring together scientists working in the field of phase transitions with university students and those who are interested in the subject.

This book (along with the total series) are fantastic. Very incouraging reading, helps with renewing your own faith in life, love and God. I would recommend this book (and series, along with any Kingsbury series) to anyone, male or female. Its an AAA+++ in my book!

I am fastly becoming an Karen Kingsbury fan. I am addicted to the Baxter Family. I feel like I know them personally and can relate to the trails and tribulations that they go through, and how they trust and lean on God to get them through.
I have already started the Firstborn series and waiting on book 3 to come out.

Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorite authors and I've read her whole Redemption Series and have since lent them to 3 other people who also have enjoyed them. I highly recommend them!
Faith emerging from tragedy--outstanding book!.......2006-01-28
Rejoice is the 4th in the Redemption Series. It focuses on another of the Baxters' daughters, Brooke. Brooke and her husband are physicians with a strong marriage and deep faith. A tragic accident involving their toddler daughter shakes the entire family. I try not to go too much into the plot when reviewing a book, so as not to ruin the story for someone who has yet to read it. I will say though that the struggle between Brooke and her husband (because she blames him) is so realistic when something happens to a child. The Baxter family shows support, love, and hope, as they try to hold together as a unit. To me the main theme in this book--or call it a lesson to be learned--is that there is no greater act of worship than to trust God in all circumstances. If you've read the 3 books before this one, you already feel like you know the Baxter family. This is a thought provoking, inspiring book that you will not put down...get ready for some late night reading! I do recommed that you buy all 5 of the Redemption Series books so you will not miss a beat. In order they are: Redemption, Remember, Return, Rejoice, and Reunion. Even after that, there is a spinoff called the "Firstborn Series" starting with Fame and then Forgiven, that you'll want to pursue. Happy reading--these books are an experience, not just a diversion.

I Rejoiced After Reading This Tale..........2000-06-21
This book is a grand slam, buzzer beater, hat-trick of a story. Not only a great sports read about the birth of ESPN (the worldwide leader in sports), it also tells the tale of how dedicated entrepeneurship can lead to great success. It shows how a vision or concept for a product or service can be acheived through the hard work of a few individuals. It is a true American story, for only in America can a business like ESPN be started, nurtured and grown.
This book is more than a great sports or business story. It also tells the tale of the individuals involved in the story and makes you want to find out more about them. It is a great read which I could not put down and I often still refer to it in my business life. This book has served as a great inspiration for me as an entrepeneur, and should do likewise for others interested in seeing their vision become a business success.

I enjoyed reading the birth of ESPN immensely. It is great to see two guys go from being a play by play man and public address announcer to high rollers in the business world. This is truly an American success story. Bill and Scott have proven that the "American Dream" is still possible.

"As a fan who has never known the world without ESPN, I was both fascinated and amazed to learn that it all began just over 20 years ago. I thought it had been around forever! Apparently there wasn't much to cable television back then. Guys like Rasmussen and other cable pioneers were real believers and thanks to their efforts we have 24 hour sports, news and movies today. Reading about the people who made the decisions, the people who didn't believe it would work and the frantic efforts to get ESPN up and running is not only informative, but entertaining.
A look at the September 1979 program schedule in the book is a real eye-opener. No NFL, MLB, NBA or NHL back then. Irish Hurling, Austrailian Rules Football and Kick Boxing were regular fare. The NCAA was a somewhat tentative partner with tape-delayed football games every night of the football season. Wow, how the world of TV sports has changed over these last 20 years.
If you enjoy reading a good tale this is your kind of book. Adversity, disappointment, joy, frustration, anxiety and elation all come through. This book is a must read for anyone who claims to be an avid ESPN fan."

I love Karma Wilson's books - the rhymes are delightful. I purchase all of her books for the library. I plan to use this book in my Sunday school class because the book lends to so many discussion topics. The illustrations are soft and warm to match the Psalm verse. It's a good feeling book that I highly reccommend.

It is not often that one finds a book of such vital import that it changes oneýs life. But the journal kept by Elisabeth Leseur is surely one of the most compelling books I have read in many years. It ranks with the great works of the Carmelite Saints: St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and St. Therese of Lisieux.
For many years now I have kept Elisabeth as my companion during Lent; a great Spiritual Director in an age of darkness. She holds the light of Eternal Truth and points out the way with calm assurance.
Elisabeth experienced an extreme degree of spiritual isolation owing to the timbre of her times in Paris high society. Her husband was aggressively atheist, as were many of his friends and associates. She kept the love of God deep in her heart, and it was to the Heart of Jesus to whom she turned for daily solace.
At Elisabethýs death her husband, Felix, found her secret journal; and as he read the pages of the journal, his heart turning to remorse, the last vestige of his hatred for the Catholic Church was swept away in the tide of his beloved wifeýs counsel. Reconciling to the Church, Felix Leseur entered a seminary and became a Catholic priest. Elisabethýs cause for Canonization is now open at the Vatican.
An inspiring biography of a woman committed to The Lord........1999-10-11
This book renews my belief that everyday actions of one person can tremendously influence the lives of other people. It also shows how an intelligent, well-read woman came to a solid commitment in the Savior. My desire was renewed to further commit myself to improvement.

Rejoice, Beloved Woman!.......2005-10-20
Reading these psalms filled with words which are within my daily context and full of the context of women's lives was a joy. I read the book aloud to my elderly mother who was healing from pneumonia, she so enjoyed the rhythms and the coziness of the words, but they were not as comforting as the psalms she had memorized as a child. Then I read the psalms she had memorized side by side of the this new vision - the renting of clothing, plucking out of eyes, tearing of flesh and warring against mine enemies - and she changed her mind about comfort! (Though she advises one should still memorize to exercise the brain!)
The songs have a steady rhythm connected to the scholar's thoughtfulness. They are recognizable, touching, mind provoking, and heart-opening cozy. I found it hard to write my review because I would return to my reading and get lost again in the feast of ideas until I was sated with thoughts, engaged, moved,and hopeful.
My Mother and I went from watching a news story about how China holds 46% of the USA's debt to reading, "Disgrace is always on my mind. I blush at the thought of creditors and those who know the details of our shame." The voice is political-global and astounding. We are red-faced and silent in our shame.
And after the despair we are still carrying water, chopping wood and serving up the grub - enlightened by the hug of our singing as the lyrics of these songs are the feminine spirit, ritual,and good bread baked and consumed refreshing the soul.

Debbie Roberts is truly a gifted servant of God in the realm of Worship Dance. When, I did a search on Debbie's name, I came to amazon.com. Amazing...and was delighted to see this book posted here.
I recently came across this (nearly) twenty year old book, and was so amazed at the many wonderful confirmations received for my own vision the Lord has given me regarding Worship Dance.
This is a must for every Christian Worship Dancer. I'm currently active as a Worship Dance leader in my local church of 4,000-5,000 which is growing to 7,000, and this book carries a lot of biblical backup. Along with my own biblical research that the Lord has given me, and now this book, I am more fully equipped to be able to use this in my teachings.
It was truly a miracle in itself the way in which this tattered old book came across my path...but its timing for the Worship Dancer of today is solemly significant for the move of God now.
It should be put back into print...
