Customer Reviews:
Good Book.......2007-07-13
I found this book very interesting and complete although it is VERY technical and i recommend it for only those who know a lot about the theme
A Classic.......2007-03-21
This is a well written book that aircraft designers and those engaged in a serious study of wing aerodynamics will find useful, helpful and handy. This is not a book for the novice but for aeronautical engineering specialists who can handle fluid dynamics theory, performance and other mathematical manipulations. Although the book has been around for some time (I first used it at university as a recommended text in aerodynamics over 25 years ago), the theory and concepts are still very much relevant and applicable today.
For those seeking advanced knowledge on wing aerodynamics theory and have a flair for mathematics especially calculus, this is an excellent reference book that is well recommended.
Review of the book "Theory of Wing Sections".......2006-11-06
To Whom it May Conccern.
This is probably the best book written on the subject.

Michael
Difficult, but complete.......2006-08-31
I bought this book mostly as a reference. As such, I have not worked through much of it. Mathematically, the authors hold nothing back from the theory of fluid dynamics--as such, it's not an easy book to work through, but doable with patience. But, it certainly appears to all be there, if/when you may need it.
WING SECTIONS.......2005-08-12
The book contains much theoretical material. I did not find it practical for the application that I needed and that is the application of wing sections to motor racing cars.
The co-ordinates of wing sections could be found in much more detail by just doing an internet search.
Interesting reading with many advanced mathematical formuli but it has very limited practical use.
Book Description
Meshfree Particle Methods is a comprehensive and systematic exposition of particle methods, meshfree Galerkin and partitition of unity methods, molecular dynamics methods, and multiscale methods. Most theories, computational formulations, and simulation results presented are recent developments in meshfree methods. They were either just published recently or even have not been published yet, many of them resulting from the authors´ own research. The presentation of the technical content is heuristic and explanatory with a balance between mathematical rigor and engineering practice. It can be used as a graduate textbook or a comprehensive source for researchers, providing the state of the art on
Meshfree Particle Methods.

Book Description
Is there a unifying solution to myriad physical laws of Nature that govern the Universe? String theory represents the closest yet to such a unifying solution. However, after 20 years string theory has been unable to predict the physical constants of Nature and still has not provided the answer to quantum gravity. Recent strong evidence for the presence of a newly discovered energy, which affects the entire Universe may be the first clue to an as yet unlocked scientific paradigm. Dr Worsley argues forcibly that the answer to this paradigm opens a new window on the truly unified nature of the Universe. The arguments presented are clear concise and compelling.
Customer Reviews:
The Universe Unified.......2007-06-06
In seeking a unified universal design Dr Worsley takes us through a brief history of man's understanding of the universe and how Einstein transcended the fixed world of Newtonian physics. The author moves from Einstein to the mystery of energy inherent in empty space. Most importantly he asks whether there is a unifying theory to explain the process behind our expanding universe. The answer in this book lies with the "new quintessence". Here the smallest particle and the whole cosmos adhere to a unified design which is , importantly, simply simple! The early christian gnostics talked of "the great in the small, alpha and omega". Perhaps they instinctively knew of this overarching cohesion even before the birth of science.

Book Description
This book is a must read for everyone interested in the future role and direction of science. It begins with the description of the new discoveries made at the turn of the previous century, which have culminated in the scientific knowledge we have today. The book then discusses the fundamental constants of Nature and how they inter-relate and how they may have come to be what they are. This second book compliments and adds a vast new tranche of knowledge to Book I of the series, but is at the same time entirely readable in its own right. As it chronicles the development of modern science it opens a new window on our undestanding of science at the most fundamental level of knowledge.

Book Description
In physics research, many activities occur backstage or to continue the theatrical metaphor, in the wings of physics. This book focuses on two such activities: the editing of physics journals and the operation of physical societies.
The author was editor of Physics Letters B for particle physics and then of Physics Reports for a total of 18 years, as well as being president of the French Physical Society and later of the European Physical Society.
This book puts together papers dealing with such activities which he has written at various times in his career. It takes the reader into the inner circles of scientific editing and of physical societies. Each introduced by a foreword, these papers can be read separately.

Book Description
Here is a book that describes the classical foundations of invariant imbedding: a concept that provided the first indication of the connection between transport theory and the Riccati Equation. The reprinting of this classic volume was prompted by a revival of interest in the subject area because of its uses for inverse problems. The major part of the book consists of applications of the invariant imbedding method to specific areas that are of interest to engineers, physicists, applied mathematicians, and numerical analysts. The material is accessible to a general audience, however, the authors do not hesitate to state, and even to prove, a rigorous theorem when one is available. A large set of problems can be found at the end of each chapter. Numerous problems on apparently disparate matters such as Riccati equations, continued fractions, functional equations, and Laplace transforms are included. The exercises present the reader with ‘real-life’ situations.

Book Description
Nonlinear Finite Elements for Continua and Structures Ted Belytschko, Wing Kam Liu, Brian Moran Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois This book provides a comprehensive description of the major methodologies of nonlinear finite element analysis for solid mechanics, as applied to continua and structures. Treatment of the subject is integrated in such a way that the reader can gain an understanding of the fundamental methods, a feeling for the comparative usefulness of different approaches and an appreciation of the difficulties inherent in nonlinear analysis. In-depth coverage of the following is given:
* Lagrangian and arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian treatments of continua
* many of the material laws used in today's software and research
* solution methods, including explicit and implicit time integration methods and methods for equilibrium problems
* basic concepts such as stability and smoothness, and techniques such as linearization and regularization
* methods for shells and structures
* contact-impact problems
* element technology, including multi-field elements
Ideal for self-study, no other book provides such a comprehensive description of nonlinear finite element analysis for solid mechanics. This is an invaluable reference not only for final year undergraduates, postgraduates, academics and engineers working on sophisticated finite element software and in the field of solid mechanics, but also for all users of nonlinear finite element programs.
Customer Reviews:
Simply the best there is.......2006-06-16
This book is simply the best nonlinear FEA book out there. While most other books stop at the Total and Updated Legrangian formulations, this book goes way beyond that and teaches you some really advanced FEA techniques. The treatment of material is thourough and meticulous. Unlike what some other reviewers have said, this book is NOT a bunch of research papers thrown together, but is very well organized with consistent notation and timely explanations. This book is ideal for self study as well as reference for scientists and engineers. However, watch out for some typos that may throw you off-track. This is the only complaint I have about the book.
A good reference, but need further revision.......2004-10-15
The approach taken by this book is neither too mathematical, which makes the subject untractable, nor too engineering-lized, which missed out important insights. I am an engineer with a master degree in mechanical engineering. I found this book very readable, given enough coffine and a good mood. The subjects covered are self-contained.
However this book needs further improvement to be called classic. First, contact-impact chapter is palely presented. LS-DYNA theory manual provides a more complete description on this subject. Secondly, typos need to be reduced. Thirdly, the language is somewhat boring. Fourthly, I would like to see a Latex-ized version of this book.
The new gold standard.......2004-06-02
This has got to be the best book out there now on how to construct nonlinear FE. For me, the book was worth it even if just for the lucent review of nonlinear continuum mechanics.
Distinguished.......2003-04-15
By systematic way of intuition, the authors successfully grasp the philosophy of nonlinear phenomena. The methods of explanation in TL, UL, and ALE are obviously pronounced. If the books of Prof. Zienkiewicz and Prof.Taylor, Prof.Bathe are treasures of FEM, this book is worth in that place.
Outstanding!.......2002-11-26
Though I had been somehow prepared by the positive comments of the other reviewers before buying this book, I must admit that I was impressed from the very beginning of study. Non linear FE is a "hard" subject, however the authors proceed in the most systematic and comprehensive way, addressing the most important aspects of non linear fem analysis in a single volume. The book contains everything you need from the field of Continuum Mechanics and is ideal for self - study. Valuable references, handy summary boxes and exercises at the end of each chapter are included.

Book Description
This book is an essential guide for anyone inquiring about the present and future place of science in humankind's destiny. The subject is the the history and explanation of modern physics. Every so often science moves by large leaps, sometimes spurred by the realization that the commonly held beliefs of the day need revising. One such great change occurred at the turn of the twentieth century, when there was a revolution in modern scientific thinking. Here the genius and ironies behind those discoveries are described. This book has great clarity and removes the shrouds of mystery, which envelop one of contemporary science's greatest challenges. It finds answers to the deepest questions of modern phsyics and ultimately describes a unified design of the Universe, which has truth beauty and symmetry.

An Excellent Book for Children.......1999-07-08
What a wonderful book to share with your own children, and those of everyone you know. It is easy and fun to read, with cute illustrations. I consider "Gingersnaps" to be one stepping stone in the process of raising our kids to grow up to be confident, positive and loving adults. Ladies, thank you. I'm looking forward to your next book!
Great!!!.......1999-02-24
I bought the book for my daughters, and just last weekend, my nine year old daughter said: "Mommy, that book makes me feel good" She takes the book with her and I'm planning to buy another copy for my seven year old since she is still learning to read, and my oldest has claimed the book for her personal own. Thank you ladies for this book.If I could, I would get it for all these young children because they need to feel good about themselves.
Positively delightful!.......1998-08-21
What a great idea! These two authors are very insightful to realize that if we provide positive affirmations to children, perhaps they won't need so much self-help as adults. My 9 year old daughter enjoys the stories of African American heros included in Gingersnaps. I also love the eye-catching cover design. A nice gift to give or receive.

Are Black Women Really This Angry?.......2006-08-12
I don't think so. The woman portrayed here are down right scary. I couldn't believe the stereotype of an angry black woman was perpertrated in this book. This was a sad commentary on what this author thought that successful black woman are. The only character that I liked was Desiree and her husband. And she had issues as well but not to the extinct that her sister Aletha did. Aletha went into her boyfriends home with a key that he did not no that she had and shot him because he was in bed with a white woman. And I quote as she shoots him "Nigger I own you". What kind of mess is that. Granted she had a right to be upset but this was just to much. Then the main characters brother decides that he is gay and leaves his wife for another man. Now if anyone she be upset it should be her. Veronica is mad at her baby's daddy because he runs off to Switzerland but comes back to see his baby to make sure that the child is his. Veronica had a right to be angry. The boyfriend decides he is going to go back to Switzerland and only date the swiss woman because they are so gentle. Bull....This story was just to much junk. The straight black men only wanted white women. There were to many characters to keep the story straight. I read the other reviews so I had to read this story. Just downright SCARY, SCARY, SCARY...
The American Sisters Have Similar Issues.......2006-05-23
I found a copy of this novel and the author's other novel, Ladyfingers at the library during my vacation in Nice. When I started it I could not put it down. Athough, we women in Europe are not as confrontational as those in the States, we definitely have similar problems. Confusion about roles, a man's curious behavior in relationships and the homosexual issues are universal, just with a different flavor.
I enjoyed the humor of the story. Being a Parisian, I especially appreciated the unique nuances in the relationships of the New York City women. The main flaw in this novel is that certain characters weren't developed enough: Louise Washington, and particularly, Debra Parker.
An Amusing Story About Big City Women and Their Beaus.......2006-05-16
I was recently given a copy of Gingersnaps and stayed up all night reading it. It was hilarious and thought provoking. The story is about a group of powerful women who are all linked together by a talkshow host. The message of the story, as I see it, is that women should try to avoid taking the power of their professions into the bedroom with their mates.
Loved it!.......2006-04-26
Gingersnaps, by Delorys Welch-Tyson is a novel of six, connected, humorous, short stories linked together, each one called a "Snap". The novel shows the various ways women make mistakes in their quest to find a suitable mate. I enjoyed the portrayals of haughty, fabulous and successful African American New York City women, and how they came to be who they are. There are also many compelling issues discussed in this novel, some which may be disturbing, yet thought provoking. I enjoyed this novel tremendously. It was a usique approach to the popular African-American, 'how to land a brutha' folktales. I'm looking forward to Welch-Tysons other works.
Absolutely Horrendous!.......2006-04-23
I read this book long, long ago and I will NEVER forget how bad it was. It was so bad I had to change the title of my "ishhh list" to my "Gingersnaps list" cause thats what this book is full of. Too bad I can't give it negative stars.
