5 out of 5 stars Mind meld--connecting science and spirituality.......2005-08-23

I have rated this book highly because it treats the rather complex subjects of science and spirit in understandable terms. No easy task. With the exposition of quantum physics over the last 75 or so years, the questions that need an answer have come closer in my mind to those pondered by the great minds of religion and philosophy for centuries. Admitedly, most scientists labor to keep any taint of philosophy or spirituality far away from their research. The uncertainty principle is still causing many physicists to scratch their heads and Eisntein insisted that "God does not play dice", but we cannot rule out that god is the observer. One of the most readable books of experimental particle physics by Leon Lederman is titled "The God Particle". I don't see how it serves us to continue to argue over creation vs evolution when both were in action with the advent of man. Maybe we should all exit the battlefield and leave our prejudices behind there.
In this book spirituality vs science is not an issue. Both are accepted as Ramtha explains how our here and now solid reality flows from the quantum field and ain't that great! It's controversial, but not argumentative. This book will stretch your level of acceptance and and your level of mind.

5 out of 5 stars Parallel Lifetimes: Fluctuations in the Quantum Field.......2005-08-12

This book is a little tough as it has a lot of science in it but it is a must to read. This book contains so much knowledge that it will warrant a second slower read but no less of a jewel. The information is explained in such way that lends the novice a real chance at understanding human life and quantum phyics. It is a must read to learn about the daily unexplained happenings in everyday life that leave us wondering what is really out there. Open your doors of the mansion which is your mind and come to explore all the rooms instead of staying blindfolded in one tiny little closet. Be willing to say "that may be a possibility".

5 out of 5 stars Shifting States of Consciousness.......2004-10-17

There are number of Ramtha's books from Fireside series that would be non-sensical and incomprehensible to someone who has not had corresponding experiences, because the person has no reference point. As the other reviewer pointed - it would come across as "psychobabble". It's pretty much like describing how the ice-cream tastes to someone who has never tasted an ice-cream. It would be entirely meaningless.

It was amusing to me over the years as I shared the book "Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East" - and some got inspired, some got nothing out of it, and some used the information and knowledge for purposes that never entered my mind at a time. One person with whom I shared those books, used the knowledge to win the lottery.

Many years before I came across this book "Parallel Lifetimes", I too, used this process of "shifting into another lifetime" to get myself into the right state of mind to win at the games of chance. It worked.

This may make far more sense to people who are familiar with Time-Lines (a technique from Neuro-Linguistic Programming), which I have used on numerous occasions to get extraordinary results - even for the purpose of instant healing of conditions that were considered incurable.

If you are familiar with hypnosis, working with mind-power, you'll know that the essence of hypnosis lies in playing well the game of "pretending". In this process of "pretending" you subjectively shift into another reality - where that which you desire to experience is "real" for you now. For your subconscious mind the difference between "real" and "imaginary" is not based on what is "inside of you" or "outsie of you", but what FEELS SUBJECTIVELY REAL to you. Whatever "feels" real for you becomes actualized in your outer experience - the "outer" being only an "effect" of the inner.

This is practically the opposite view of commonly accepted worldview, but to the one who chooses to simply pay attention to his thoughts and to his experiences in the outer world, this becomes soon very obvious. There are those who are just philosophers and those who choose to engage in personal experiments and learn how they can intentionally use the power of their minds to create what they desire.

There is a practical purpose in experimenting with shifting consciously into what may be called a parallel lifetime (that, again is the essence of working with NLP technique of working with Time-Lines) - it helps to engage in the game of "pretending" easier by dropping all the limitations in one shot, or at least as many limitations as are obstructing the achievement of the outcome that are important to the individual to experience - an example of that may be healing a terminal illness.

Ramtha's books from the Fireside Collection, do not guide you through any specific techniques, so if you're looking for "how to" books, you may be disappointed. If you're looking for "how to" book, you may get much more out of books such as "Adventures with Time-Lines". Ramtha's books are also not pointing out any "new truths" - just the same spiritual truths that have been around for thousands of years, in a new light, using a little bit different language.

Quantum physics is now considered "scientific", while spiritual and metaphysical truths were not considered "scientific" and some people find this different language and explanations more helpful. On the other hand, no matter what language is used, the only way anyone will ever get any practical benefit from any of the teachings and ideas is through personal application and experimentation. There is no way one is ever going to truly know something without experiencing it.

Sometimes people enjoy cultivating an idea that once they apply some ideas they will overnight become something entirely different or that perhaps working with parallel lifetimes, they'll wake up tomorrow and find themselves living on another planet, in another century, being someone else or something to that effect. What will more likely happen is that as you shift into another state of consciousness, as your perception of the world changes (and that can change overnight), your experience of the world will change. And in that respect, you may also pick A Course in Miracles and if you wholeheartedly work with it for one year, your experience of reality will turn upside down.

The essence of this little book is that with each shift in consciousness you make, you are embarking upon and traveling upon a new time-line. Each time you make a decision which way to go, you are choosing a destination, a path, and each path, each choice, constitutes one possible lifetime.

    Book Description

The book provides an introduction to the methods of quantum statistical mechanics used in quantum optics and their application to the quantum theories of the single-mode laser and optical bistability. The generalized representations of Drummond and Gardiner are discussed together with the more standard methods for deriving Fokker--Planck equations. Particular attention is given to the theory of optical bistability formulated in terms of the positive P-representation, and the theory of small bistable systems. This is a textbook at an advanced graduate level. It is intended as a bridge between an introductory discussion of the master equation method and problems of current research.

      Book Description

This Växjö conference was devoted to the reconsideration of quantum foundations. Due to increasing research in quantum information theory, especially on quantum computing and cryptography, many questions regarding the foundations of quantum mechanics, which have long been considered to be exclusively of philosophical interest, nowadays play an important role in theoretical and experimental quantum physics.

        Book Description

Three key aspects of quantum gravity are considered in this book: phenomenology, potential experimental aspects and foundational theory. The phenomenology is the treatment of metric quantum fluctuations as torsional curves that deviate from classical expectations. This leads to possible experimental configurations that may detect such fluctuations. Most of these proposed experiments are quantum optical measurements of subtle quantum gravity effects in the interaction of photons and atoms. The foundational discussions attempt to find an substratum to string theories, which are motivated by the phenomenological treatment. Quantum gravity is not the quantization of general relativity, but is instead the embedding of quantum theory and gravitation into a more fundamental field theoretic framework.

          Book Description

Statistical Methods in Quantum Optics 2 - Non-Classical Fields continues the development of the methods used in quantum optics to treat open quantum systems and their fluctuations. Its early chapters build upon the phase-space methods introduced in the first volume Statistical Methods in Quantum Optics 1 - Matter Equations and Fokker-Planck Equations: the difficulties these methods face in treating non-classical light are exposed, where the regime of large fluctuations – failure of the system size expansion – is shown to be particularly problematic. Cavity QED is adopted as a natural vehicle for extending quantum noise theory into this regime. In response to the issues raised, the theory of quantum trajectories is presented as a universal approach to the treatment of fluctuations in open quantum systems.

This book presents its material at a level suitable for beginning researchers or students in an advanced course in quantum optics, or a course in quantum mechanics or statistical physics that deals with open quantum systems. The text is complemented by exercises and interspersed notes that point the reader to side issues or a deeper exploration of the material presented.

            Book Description

Quantum annealing employs quantum fluctuations in frustrated systems or networks to anneal the system down to its ground state, or more generally to its so-called minimum cost state. Often this procedure turns out to be more effective, in multivariable optimization problems, than its classical counterpart utilizing tunable thermal fluctuations. This volume is divided into three parts. Part I is an extensive tutorial introduction familiarizing the reader with the background material necessary to follow the core of the book. Part II gives a comprehensive account of the fundamentals and applications of the quantum annealing method, and Part III compares quantum annealing with other related optimization methods. This is the first book entirely devoted to quantum annealing and will be both an invaluable primer and guidebook for all advanced students and researchers in this important field.

                Book Description

This book presents the statistical theory of complex wave scattering and quantum transport in physical systems which have chaotic classical dynamics, as in the case of microwave cavities and quantum dots, or which possess quenched randomness, as in the case of disordered conductors - with an emphasis on mesoscopic fluctuations. The statistical regularity of the phenomena is revealed in a natural way by adopting a novel maximum-entropy approach. Shannon's information entropy is maximised, subject to the symmetries and constraints which are physically relevant, within the powerful and non-perturbative theory of random matrices; this is a most distinctive feature of the book. Aiming for a self-contained presentation, the quantum theory of scattering, set in the context of quasi-one-dimensional, multichannel systems, and related directly to scattering problems in mesoscopic physics, is introduced in chapters two and three. The linear-response theory of quantum electronic transport, adapted to the context of mesoscopic systems, is discussed in chapter four. These chapters, together with chapter five on the maximum-entropy approach and chapter eight on weak localization, have been written in a most pedagogical style, suitable for use on graduate courses. In chapters six and seven, the problem of electronic transport through classically chaotic cavities and quasi-one-dimensional disordered systems is discussed. Many exercises are included, most of which are worked through in detail, aiding graduate students, teachers, and research scholars interested in the subject of quantum transport through disordered and chaotic systems.

                  Book Description

In the last two decades remarkable progress has been made in understanding and describing tunneling processes in complex systems in terms of classical trajectories. This book introduces recent concepts and achievements with particular emphasis on a dynamical formulation and relations to specific systems in mesoscopic, molecular, atomic and nuclear physics. Advanced imaginary time techniques, e.g. for decay rates and tunnel splittings, are discussed in the first part. The second part covers current developments for wave-packet tunneling in real-time, and the third part describes thermodynamical and nonequilibrium approaches for barrier transmission in dissipative systems.

                    Book Description

From the acclaimed author of Breakfast at Stephanie’s comes a hilarious new novel about falling in love, breaking the rules, and other sinful pleasures.

A junior copywriter at a London ad agency, Cynthia Fishbein is the original good girl. She works hard, never complains, and takes care of everyone around her. Even Cyn’s therapist tells her she’s too nice. But all that’s about to change when a catty co-worker steals one of her ideas.

So Cyn goes her one better: She steals the woman’s identity.

Suddenly she’s breaking out of her shell, concocting a wickedly brilliant scheme to salvage her career–and maybe get a little revenge in the process. And once Cyn gets started, she just can’t stop. Soon she’s breaking the #1 rule of group therapy by dating Joe Dillon, the group’s sexy commitment-phobe. Leading a thrilling but terrifying double life, embroiled in a deliciously forbidden affair, she is having the time of her life–until her scheme starts to backfire in a major way. And unexpectedly Cyn is faced with a crisis that threatens her career, her relationship–and just might finish off her sterling reputation for good.

I'm another one who was really interested in this book from the back cover and thought it sounded like a fun read. I'm a chick-lit addict anyway, so it seemed like a natural read. It's only because I have a really hard time not finishing a book when I've invested time and energy in it that I was able to finish this one.

To start with, all the "therapy" sessions made me want to tear my hair out! I don't know whether it's just because I've been in therapy or what, but I can't see any therapist worth their degree allowing sessions and conversations like what went on in Cyn's group. That was just beyond the pale.

Second, I have a hard time believing that Cyn, or anyone, could get away with what she did for as long as she did. What CEO goes away for weeks at a time across the ocean without checking in? And how would a junior copy writer be able to set up the makings of an entire ad campaign without having to get anything signed off by her boss?

Third, the timing of the book drove me nuts. Some chapters would cover just a few hours. Others would cover weeks. I still don't know how long the whole episode lasted. Was it a few weeks? Or longer? And if it was longer, that makes it even less plausible.

I loved the idea that one of Cyn's friends, an aspiring writer, would go on to Amazon.com to post horrible reviews of other authors when his work was rejected. I wonder whether that was some kind of subliminal message that we shouldn't post horrible reviews of her book???

The dialogue was so strained - I don't even know where to start with that. I would never have conversations with my friends that sound even remotely like what Cyn had with Hugh or Harmony.

I have to give credit to Sue Margolis for writing and finishing a book - it's certainly never something I've done, so I certainly have to applaud her for the effort, but there is so much REALLY GOOD chick-lit out there that I really wouldn't waste another minute reading or writing about this one!

                    4 out of 5 stars A great read.......2005-08-09

I found this novel in a local grocery store and was fairly interested when I read the description. The main character Cyn decides it's time to take the welcome mat off her back when stands up to her back-stabbing coworker after having a creative brief stolen and having to drive around in a Anusol promotional car. The storyline seems possible in the real world and it was enjoyable to read.

                    1 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2005-08-09

According to the intro at the back cover, it sounded really interesting. I thought it would be really funny and with excitment. However, to my disappointment, I could hardly believe I finished the whole book. I was about to give up after the second chapter. I have never read a book this boring. The storyline in the book is very fragile. Talking about someone stole her identity was just a slightly touch. The main story lies on her strugle with the wedding of her younger brother. There were too many unnecessary subplots and it made you go insane. You really do not see why and how these subplots fit into the book or how it made a difference in Cyn (the main character) who just stole someone's identity. I think this book is really a crap. Don't be fooled....

                    2 out of 5 stars What a letdown!.......2005-08-03

I picked up this book for two reasons. First, the main character, Cyn, was in the advertising business. Second, I thought the premise sounded interesting. Cyn takes over another women's identity, who has wronged her in the past. I was pretty disappointed on both fronts. The whole advertising business aspect wasn't very realistic, even for a chick-lit book. As far as the plotline goes, the author tried way too hard to make Cyn likable. I ended up hating her because she was so gosh darn nice. The whole identity-stealing sounded great, but came out pretty lame as well. A below par fluffy read.

3 out of 5 stars Well, really three and a half stars!.......2005-07-31

I have read all of Sue Margolis' books, and while I enjoyed this one, it just wasn't as engaging as her other novels.

In this book we find our heroine Cynthia Fishbein attending therapy because she just isn't able to stand up for herself. Along the way, we meet her two best friends, Hugh and Harmony, we meet her many colorful work colleagues (as well as a frisky, foul-mouthed myna bird) and her loving family. Interspaced between this, she falls in love has a crisis at work, then a crisis with her new love, then another crisis at work, and then....all is well.

Many people, myself included, want a happy ending with a romance novel, but I must say I just had a hard time getting into this book. However, the characters were engaging, and I laughed out loud more than once.

Give this book a go-round, but look at Margolis' other books as well, especially Apocolipstick. Very funny!
