Book Description
Learning and Generalization provides a formal mathematical theory for addressing intuitive questions such as:
• How does a machine learn a new concept on the basis of examples?
• How can a neural network, after sufficient training, correctly predict the outcome of a previously unseen input?
• How much training is required to achieve a specified level of accuracy in the prediction?
• How can one identify the dynamical behaviour of a nonlinear control system by observing its input-output behaviour over a finite interval of time?
In its successful first edition,
A Theory of Learning and Generalization was the first book to treat the problem of machine learning in conjunction with the theory of empirical processes, the latter being a well-established branch of probability theory. The treatment of both topics side-by-side leads to new insights, as well as to new results in both topics.
This second edition extends and improves upon this material, covering new areas including:
• Support vector machines.
• Fat-shattering dimensions and applications to neural network learning.
• Learning with dependent samples generated by a beta-mixing process.
• Connections between system identification and learning theory.
• Probabilistic solution of 'intractable problems' in robust control and matrix theory using randomized algorithm.
Reflecting advancements in the field, solutions to some of the open problems posed in the first edition are presented, while new open problems have been added.
Learning and Generalization (second edition) is essential reading for control and system theorists, neural network researchers, theoretical computer scientists and probabilist.

Explains Neural Networks architecture clearly.......2004-05-09
This book explains the application of Neural Networks into Principal Component Analysis with clear logic and easy examples. The only problem is that I still think this book is too succinct. I'll have to find papers to see the updating rule for some parameters. But as the first step to understand this topic, this book is good enough.

Book Description
Foresight can be crucial in process and production control, production-and-resources planning and in management decision making generally. Although forecasting the future from accumulated historical data has become a standard and reliable method in production and financial engineering, as well as in business and management, the use of time series analysis in the on-line milieu of most industrial plants has been more problematic because of the time and computational effort required.
The advent of intelligent computational technologies such as the neural network and the genetic algorithm promotes the efficient solution of on-line forecasting problems. Their most outstanding successes include:
- prediction of nonlinear time series and the nonlinear combination of forecasts using neural networks;
- prediction of chaotic time series and of output data for second-order nonlinear plant using fuzzy logic.
The power of intelligent technologies applied individually and in combination, has created advanced forecasting methodologies, exemplified in
Computational Intellingence in Time Series Forecasting by particular systems and processes. The authors give a comprehensive exposition of the improvements on offer in quality, model building and predictive control, and the selection of appropriate tools from the plethora available using such examples as:
- forecasting of electrical load and of output data for nonlinear plant with neuro-fuzzy networks;
- temperature prediction and correction in pyrometer reading, tool-wear monitoring and materials property prediction using hybrid intelligent technologies;
- evolutionary training of neuro-fuzzy networks by the use of genetic algorithms and prediction of chaotic time series;
- isolated use of neural networks and fuzzy logic in the nonlinear combination of traditional forecasts of temperature series obtained from a pilot-scale chemical reactor with temporarily disconnected controller.
Application-oriented engineers in process control, manufacturing, the production industries and research centres will find much to interest them in
Computational Intelligence in Time Series Forecasting and the book is suitable for industrial training purposes. It will also serve as valuable reference material for experimental researchers.

Research based book.......2006-02-19
For the novice reader in this field of expertise this book is well suited. It does not mean that this book is not extensively explained, but the book is easy to understand since it is going step by step through many research result examples conducted in clear way. The author intended the book to be finished within approximately few weeks of intensively reading,and some prior knowledges. The presentation is awesome and includes up-to-date notions, namely Neural Network approach, Fuzzy Logic perspective and Evolutionary Computing as well. The Evolutionary Computing contains Genetic Algorithm, Genetic Programming, Evolutionary Strategy, Evolutionary Programming and Differential Evolution. The four last notions are left in concise for some reasons. Furthermore, the Hybrid method,i.e. Neuro-Fuzzy, is explained completely by many research results exploiting the robustness of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy inference system applied with Mackey-Glass Chaotic time series and Wang data nonlinear inputs. The most recent developments are presented in some pages including Wavelet Networks, Fractal Based Network and Fuzzy Clustering.
However, this book is intended for postgraduate student, scientist and industrial workers in area of control, pattern recognition, robotic and many more.

Book Description
The primary purpose of this book is to present a set of techniques which allow the design of controllers able to guarantee stability, convergence and robustness for dynamical systems with unknown nonlinearities and of manufacturing systems. To compensate for the significant amount of uncertainty in system structure, a neural network model developed recently, namely the Recurrent High Order Neural Network (RHONN), is employed. Real applications are provided with illustrations and tables for clarification; the book contains material on: - RHONN structure and approximation capabilities - indirect adaptive control - direct adaptive control - scheduling for manufacturing systems - test case for scheduling using RHONNs. The book is primarily intended for industrial and institutional practitioners but should be of significant interest to undergraduate and graduate students and academic scientists working with neural networks and their applications in engineering.

Book Description
Marketing exec Lucy Cunningham is thrilled when her firm lands The Palm Club account. The campaign concept for Miami's hottest fitness club was Lucy's idea: take one fitness-challenged woman, put her in front of TV cameras, and into the hands of the club's top personal trainer, Theo Redmond. And there's a big cash reward for each pound shed. It seems like a brilliant idea-until Lucy gets picked to be the guinea pig. It's obvious she needs to drop the pounds, but the idea of letting it all hang out in front of some Malibu Ken jock has her choking on her Milk Duds before she even begins!After one meeting, Theo knows Lucy will be his toughest client and one of the most unforgettable women he'll ever meet. Smart-mouthed and stubborn, it's clear she isn't fond of marching to anyone's drumbeat but her own. But she shocks Theo by rising to the challenge like a pro. And he finds his heart in jeopardy long before Lucy starts to slim down and turn heads. As Lucy sweats her way into a whole new life, things start to heat up between her and Theo. But trust doesn't come easy for either of them. They've both been burned by romance in the past. Now Lucy and Theo are about to discover that appearances can be deceiving-and in the end, true love lies somewhere between pizza and Pilates....
Customer Reviews:
Nothing exceptional.......2007-10-08
Ok, but not too exceptional. It wasn't a thrilling book for me. Not an exciting read. Just plain ok.
He Loves Lucy.......2007-08-12
Great Story!! I laughed out loud reading this...from the first page to the very last. There were also moments I totally identified w/Lucy...times when I reflected on painful things in MY PAST and thought of the ways that they paralyzed me...much the same way as her being a "Slump Buster" damaged her. Then there were scenes that made me smile...and damn if I didn't wish that Theo could be my personal trainer!! He was a really great son, brother, coach, friend, and awesome trainer...just a really, really great guy. I've read lots of books by Susan Donovan...and her men are ALWAYS so damn good...probably too good to be true. But then that's why we read, right ladies? To escape and fantasize about "the perfect hunk of a man"....LOL!!! Get this book...or any book by SD...because I guarantee you, you won't be disappointed. Anything she writes is always such a treat. Like chocolate cupcakes from the "Cupcakery" here in LV...but w/less calories!! Did I forget to mention how the stories (to me anyway) always flow along at such a great pace? It's awesome & yet almost sad to reach the end. Another keeper for sure!!
If you love Susan E. Phillips- you will love this book. I love this bk........2007-08-08
No fair putting cupcakes on the cover of this book! Cruel, when Lucy Cunningham wants to lose 100 pounds in one year. An excellent goal for anyone 100 pounds overweight, right? But she does it the hard way - everything is publicly weighed, measured and recorded by her personal trainer Theo on television as a PR stunt for her advertising agency and Theo's health club! What's the reward for that sort of humiliation, you ask? $100,000.00. That's $1,000.00 a pound for both Lucy and Theo, who desperately needs the money to go back to med school. Big commitment, huge reward! So here's fat Lucy and over there is Theo, built like a Greek god. Hmm. Starstruck Lucy begins to lose weight, and Theo's interest perks up in the woman behind the huffing, puffing, sweating, exercise wreck. (We didn't say it was going to be easy, did we?) He fantasizes about med school and about Lucy, while she just fantasizes about Theo. And pizza and chocolate and every other rich edible thing, including - ahem - Theo. This is a fun, naughty book you'll want to gobble up, as Theo and Lucy traverse the - dare I say it? - rocky road to romance. Sizzling, sexy fun.
A fun read!.......2007-05-23
Lucy Cunningham is an up and coming ad exec star who comes up with a great campaign for a new gym client: one of the gym's trainers will help someone lose 100 lbs. in just one year, with both the trainer and the participant getting $1000 per pound lost. Unfortunately, the "someone" turns out to be Lucy herself, despite her initial protests. Although she had always been on the larger side, throughout high school and early college, Lucy was active and athletic, but a mysterious incident at a college football game led to a major weight gain. So, Lucy reluctantly agrees to the weight loss challenge, allured by the idea of starting her own ad agency with the money she earns. Almost immediately, she falls for her gorgeous yet sweet personal trainer, Theo. Not only does Theo have model-perfect looks and a heart of gold--he likes Lucy from the start, seeing her personality, not her weight--but also he is a former medical student trying to earn enough money to return to school. Although Lucy and Theo are both primed to succeed, there are those who want to see them fail, and the book chronicles their progress.
So that's the setup. Sound a bit unrealistic? Well, of course it is--this is a romance novel after all! Of course, both Lucy and Theo are wonderful, and of course, they eventually fall in love--but like with all romances (even Shakespearian ones), the course of true love does not run smooth. Still, this is enjoyable book with some depth to it, not only in the form of Lucy's troubled past, but also related to Theo's own background. Definitely recommended as a quick, fun read.
Great Read.......2007-05-15
This book is great and truly romantic. Not every heroine has to be super skinny with a 'flawless' bod to get the hunky guy.

The BEST book about Elvis.......2006-11-06
This is the best book I have read about Elvis and his true love and the daughter he never knew about. I have read this book over and over until the pages have fallen out. It makes me cry every time. I can only imagine what life would be like if he were still alive today. I suggest this to all Elvis fans - young and old
Are you lonesome tonight?.......2006-09-26
This book was AWESOME! I am a total Elvis fan and this book sent me through a sea of emotions and left me a bit numb...amazing story!
WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP.......2004-11-21
Gimme a break.......people, this book is nothing but the result of some woman in need of some cash--end of story.
First of all there are a number of "facts" in her book which are verifiably not true. During one of her supposed secret meetings with Elvis (during his trip to meet with Richard Nixon), she describes him as being dressed "wildly" in a purple suit. She obviously lifted this piece of info from Albert Goldman's book, because both Elvis' bodyguards at that time and photos clearly show that he was dressed in black, not purple.
Secondly, she writes that one day in 1953, she rode a rented horse up to the mountains in Memphis and lo and behold here comes Sir Lancelot (Elvis) riding up behind her where the spend the night together up there. Uh, the only place you could rent a horse in Memphis in 1953 was the local fairgrounds and the horses were NOT allowed off the property.
Plus, it is a well-known fact that Elvis had a major problem having sex with a woman who had had children. Something inside him, just turned off. This subject was dealt with in the books "Elvis, What Happened"? by his bodyguards, and in "Elvis and Me" by Priscilla Presley. Elvis was greatly attracted to innocent young girls, not women who looked like they had been run through the mill. Sorry, but that was just his way.
what really nailed her coffin is when she was on a talk show several years ago with her daughter Desiree. Someone asked what colour Ms. Barbin's eyes were. She said "brown". She was then asked what colour Desiree's eyes were. She said "green". It's a well known fact of course, that Elvis had blue eyes. What's not so well known is that it's genetically impossible for someone with brown eyes and someone with blue eyes to have an offspring with green eyes. When this fact was presented to Lucy de Barbin on national TV, she stumbled and stuttered over her words, tried back tracking and said "well, her eyes are really blue." Can you say: 'Liar'?
Another problem with Lucy de Barbin's "story", is that not one single person who was close to Elvis all those years can verify anything about what she claims. Elvis was rarely alone and if he indeed had an affair with Ms. de Barbin, SOMEONE would have been able to say "yep, I remember all those times when E was meeting with Lucy." Guess what? Not one single person remembers her.
Plus, Elvis couldn't keep his mouth shut---about anything. He would blab to his bodyguards about anyone and they knew about all the girls he was fooling around with. Guess what? He never mentioned her ONCE to anyone.
Seeing as this book was written before DNA testing was around, I would be very interested to see if Lucy de Barin's daughter would be willing to submit to a DNA test, and compare it with Lisa Marie Presley's to see if it's a match. I guarantee that it won't be.
Overall, this book is ridiculous and if you believe the nonsense that Ms. de Barbin tells, then I've got some swamp land in Florida to sell you.
lonely book.......2004-08-21
As an avid Elvis fan, I was really disappointed with this book. I went in very cautiously, not wanting to believe a word of it. The more I read, the more I started to believe Lucy's story. As the book went on I got bored with the same story telling, the same lines, the same everything. By the end of the book, I was still skeptical. Nowhere is Lucy mentioned in his life. Any other biographies omit her name completely. With that many people in Elvis' life at that time someone would know something more than what is told. I'm not sure of the story being true. I am sure of the story being pretty boring at times. Worth reading? Sure, if you can get it for a penny plus shipping.
well i tought it was bad.......2004-07-20

Bill Frawley Sings the Old Ones.......2007-07-15
I obtained this particular album MANY years ago. Having been a fan of Frawley on the "I Love Lucy" show and enjoying his singing routines, I couldn't wait to hear him solo. The cover is a real knockout!
Probably due to the arrangements used for the songs on this album, Frawley comes off differently in performing these songs on record than when Wilbur Hatch arranged his stuff for the TV show.
His voice on SOME of the songs simply can't hit some of the higher notes and if it wasn't for the back-up singers he has performing with him, the pieces would be close to a disaster. Perhaps it was his age, perhaps the problem he had once had with the bottle and cigarettes, which helped to destroy the voices of other performers of the past, notably Merle Travis.
However, on some of the songs he does much better, especially when allowed to perform mostly solo. Again, I fault the arranging for the problems he has on some tunes. The back-up singers performed at a higher key than Bill's voice was accustomed to, and I feel that was a major problem.
Still, this album is listenable, and fans of the Lucy show should enjoy it. Super rare doesn't really do justice on just how hard this album is to find and one thing is for sure: you'll NEVER see it on CD!It's too bad that Desilu never put together a video that captured ALL of the musical moments from this show, particularly what he and Vivian Vance did together.
