Introduction to Unconventional Superconductivity
V.P. Mineev , K Samokhin , L. D. Landau , and L D Landau Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 9056992090 |
Book Description
Unconventional superconductivity (or superconductivity with a nontrivial Cooper pairing) is believed to exist in many heavy-fermion materials as well as in high temperature superconductors, and is a subject of great theoretical and experimental interest. The remarkable progress achieved in this field has not been reflected in published monographs and textbooks, and there is a gap between current research and the standard education of solid state physicists in the theory of superconductivity. This book is intended to meet this information need and includes the authors' original results.

Magnetic Hysteresis
Edward Della Torre Manufacturer: Wiley-IEEE Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0780360419 |
Book Description
Electrical Engineering Magnetic Hysteresis Understanding magnetic hysteresis is vitally important to the development of the science of magnetism as a whole and to the advancement of practical magnetic device applications. Magnetic Hysteresis, by acclaimed expert Edward Della Torre, presents a clear explanation of the connection between physical principles and phenomenological hysteresis. This comprehensive book offers a lucid analysis that enables the reader to save valuable time by reducing trial-and-error design. Dr. Della Torre uses physical principles to modify Preisach modeling and to describe the complex behavior of magnetic media. While Pretsach modeling is a useful mathematical tool, its congruency and deletion properties present limitations to accurate descriptions of magnetic materials. Step-by-step, this book describes the modifications that can overcome these limitations. Special attention is given to the use of feedback around a Preisach transducer to remove the congruency restriction, and to the use of accommodation and aftereffect models to remove the deletion restriction. Magnetic state selection rules are introduced to couple scalar Preisach models to form a vector model. Magnetic Hysteresis is indispensable reading for engineers, physicists, and materials scientists who want to gain a better understanding of hysteresis losses and create more energy-efficient motor designs.

Materials Science in Static High Magnetic Fields
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 3540419950 |
Book Description
Today high magnetic fields play an increasingly important role in many scientific fields. Formerly their use was largely restricted to the measurement of physical phenomena and the characterization of materials. But more recently they have found application in many new areas such as materials processing, crystal growth, and even in chemistry and biology. This book gives a broad survey of some of the most exciting recent applications of high magnetic fields, with the emphasis on materials science. These include, among others, the study of conventional and high-Tc superconductors, semiconductors, low-dimensional organic conductors, conducting polymers and protein crystallization. Each chapter begins with a general introduction and goes on to present detailed experimental results together with their interpretation. Researchers and students alike will find this book an excellent introduction to, and overview of current applications of static high magnetic fields.

ASIN: 0805385010 |
Book Description
Theory of Superconductivity is considered one of the best treatments of the field. This monograph, by Nobel Prize-winning physicist J. Robert Schrieffer, has been reprinted because of its enduring value as an introduction to the theory of superconductivity. Based on a series of lectures presented by the author at the University of Pennsylvania, the fundamentals of the theory of superconductivity are stressed as a means of providing the reader with a framework for the literature in which detailed applications of the microscopic theory are made to specific problems. It also serves as a foundation for the more recent developments in this active field.

Superconducting Accelerator Magnets
K. H. Mess , P. Schmuser , and S. Wolff Manufacturer: World Scientific Pub Co Inc ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 9810227906 |
Book Description
The main topic of the book are the superconducting dipole and quadrupole magnets needed in high-energy accelerators and storage rings for protons, antiprotons or heavy ions. The basic principles of low-temperature superconductivity are outlined with special emphasis on the effects which are relevant for accelerator magnets. Properties and fabrication methods of practical superconductors are described. Analytical methods for field calculation and multipole expansion are presented for coils without and with iron yoke. The effect of yoke saturation and geometric distortions on field quality is studied. Persistent magnetization currents in the superconductor and eddy currents the copper part of the cable are analyzed in detail and their influence on field quality and magnet performance is investigated. Superconductor stability, quench origins and propagation and magnet protection are addressed. Some important concepts of accelerator physics are introduced which are needed to appreciate the demanding requirements on field quality in large storage rings. The operational experience with the superconducting HERA collider serves as an illustration. Finally superconducting correction coils and practical construction and fabrication methods of accelerator magnets are discussed. The physical and technical principles described in the book are substantiated with a wealth of experimental data on multipoles, persistent- and eddy-current effects, quench performance and much more.Customer Reviews:
Introduction to Superconducting Accelerator Magnets.......2003-02-18
Starting with an introduction into low temperature superconductivity and accelerator physics the book describes NbTi superconductor manufacturing, magnetic field calculations including persistent current effects, cryogenic implications of superconducting magnets, magnet manufacturing and the measuring techniques to verify magnet performance. For the experts the book also contains some useful tables on material properties relevant for the manufacturing and operation of superconducting magnets.
In summary the book presents a lot of useful information in a very concise and easy to understand way. The book is highly recommended.

ASIN: 0521565626 |
Book Description
This is a text on superconductivity, an area of intense research activity worldwide. The book is in three parts. The first covers the London, Pippard and GinzburgSHLandau theories, which are used to discuss a wide range of phenomena involving surface energies, vorticity, the intermediate and mixed states, boundaries and boundary conditions, the upper critical field in bulk, thin film and anisotropic superconductors, and surface superconductivity. The second part discusses the microscopic theory of Bardeen, Cooper and Schrieffer. The theory is used to discuss quasi particle tunneling and the Josephson effects from a microscopic point of view. The final part of the book treats nonuniform superconductors using the BogoliubovSHde Gennes approach with which it is possible to extract many important results without invoking Green's function methods. This text will be of great interest to graduate students taking courses in superconductivity, superfluidity, many body theory, and quantum liquids. It will also be of value to research workers in the field of superconductivity.

The Deeper, The Bluer
Barbara Field Manufacturer: iUniverse ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0595133789 |
Book Description
In this remarkable debut novel
set in San Diego, 16-year-old Claire thinks she is pregnant. As spring turns
into summer, she learns all about motherhood—especially single motherhood—
from four fascinating women who meet around a turquoise, community pool.
Claire’s mother, Virginia, is HIV positive, a gutsy southerner on an unusual
quest. Claire’s boyfriend’s mother, Molly, a poetic soul, has left behind a world
of spousal abuse in Seattle. Renata, another mother, is an elegant, New York
lawyer who watches her picture-perfect life come undone. And Dorie, a wild
would-be writer and young mother, seeks to feel at whatever cost. Until the
unspeakable happens.
Like The Joy Luck Club, Waiting to Exhale, and How To Make An American
Quilt,
The Deeper, The Bluer is about the friendship between women, about
mothers and daughters, about celebration and loss. It also reveals the aching
desire of a teenage girl to save her mother, make sense of her world, to love
and be loved. As Claire says, “Real love must be the tightest sucking in of
breath, a hold so pure and blue, the deepest blue you can imagine.”
An unforgettable and moving story that will resonate long after it’s been read.
