Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Horrible Book.......2007-09-17

Many of the answers they provide are simply wrong. The content does not match the actual Physics GRE material.

5 out of 5 stars Really good.......2007-06-08

This book covers a lot of material.
There's much even a bright undergraduate student in Physics is not expected to have studied or ever encountered.
But so goes the GRE exam too, to a lesser extent.
This can be somewhat annoying for those who are accustomed to quickly and easily going through problem sets.
However, provided you accept working on the exercises of this book as something which will add to your background and "enlightment", not merely as exercises that will test how well you master the minimal physics background every would-be graduate student is expected to be well acquainted with, you will greatly benefit from this book.

2 out of 5 stars Some of the answers are wrong.......2006-10-21

And simple math answers too. For example, (1/2)(2/3) = ? They say it's 1/6. I'm of the opinion that it's actually 1/3. That's just one of several I've ran across.

Still, it's better than nothing, but I think looking at your old college textbooks and doing the ETS questions is probably a better route.

3 out of 5 stars Let's see.......2006-10-17

Hmmm I don't understand why there is so much negativity about this.
I think the point is to get ur mind thinking and remembering all the stuff u learned in undergrad.
I have only looked at a couple problems so far. One of them had a problem where u had to solve a VERY involved quadratic equation. Not that this is particularly hard to do. But it could easily take like 20 minutes to do by hand. Maybe ten minutes if ur quick.
We'll see how it goes.

1 out of 5 stars This book annoys me........2006-10-04

I can point out many reasons why this book must never be bought. The main two are

. The review is ridiculously basic. At least, here in Brasil, every high school student knows 70-80% of everything that is written there.

. There are lots of errors through the tests. Sometimes the questions are wrong, sometimes the choices are wrong, others the resolution is wrong. And believe me, there are cases where all three are simultanously wrong.

1 out of 5 stars Awful GRE prep.......2006-07-30

This book is more suited for SAT prep. Questions are way too easy and aren't even close to simulating the physics GRE. The book doesn't even give explanations for answers - just tests and answer keys. Not worth it.

1 out of 5 stars Really an algebra-based high school physics review.......2006-07-08

This book really is a collection of sheets of review questions that were apparently made up for an algebra-based high-school physics course, and so the book is at much too low a level for physics GRE review. There are a _few_ higher level questions thrown in on rare occasions, but even these are not at all at the level of the physics GRE. The answers to the questions (all multiple choice format) are given, but there are no worked out solutions for any of the problems. There are no short review sections (as can be found in most other review books), just the multiple choice questions. A very misleadingly-titled book. (This review written by a college physics prof.)

2 out of 5 stars It's OK, but far better review books exist.......1998-12-24

This book does provide a decent preparation for the physics GRE, but there are no examples where problems are actually solved. It is also lacking in letting you know exactly what is needed for the test. The questions are multiple choice out of 4 instead of 5 so the simulation of an actual test is flawed. I'd suggest the Barron's review book which has numerous practice exams, and actually goes through and solves every question.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Review of the GRE Physics Test.......2004-12-31

I used this book to prepare for a test in early 2002 and was surprised at the amount of similar questions posed on the actual exam. It's true that ETS recycles many of the test questions each year and the Physics test is no exception. If you are looking strictly for more in-depth test taking strategies then you should consider another book, as for practicing on actual test questions this book wins hands-down.

5 out of 5 stars A book you want to see before the test........2003-02-16

This book neither tells you how to solve the problems nor what knowledge you are expected to have before the test. This book contains only problems and answers. When you think you are ready for the test, this is the book you want to use. This book contains four actual tests and helps you time your exam and get used to the style of the exam. I found "Physics: The Easy Way by Robert L. Lehrman" a good book to review the kind of things asked in GRE physics test. In GRE physics test you are asked a hundred small questions which can be solved almost without calculation. You want to review the essentials and get used to the style of the exam for high score.

4 out of 5 stars Just the tests.......2000-08-22

Sadly, this publication by ETS contains nothing but 3 old GRE physics exams of (presumably) retired questions. The correct answers and the scoring statistics are given, but there is nothing in the way of explanation or discussion or strategies for attacking the test. Still, you should probably get this because its the only place you can get your hands on ETS's actual problems. Other books that purport to train you for the GRE often disturbingly misunderstand what kind of things ETS expects you to know and do on the exam. This book is only helpful if you invest a lot of time in it, but I still reccommend it highly if you plan on taking the physics GRE.

4 out of 5 stars comprehensive and practical.......2000-04-20

with detailed explaination and cogent coaching, this book provides a hand-on way to tackle GRE questions

                Book Description

Smitten by the modernity of Cervantes and Borges at an early age, Carlos Fuentes has written extensively on the cultures of the Americas and elsewhere. His work includes over a dozen novels, among them The Death of Artemio Cruz, Christopher Unborn, The Old Gringo, and Terra Nostra, several volumes of short stories, numerous essays on literary, cultural, and political topics, and some theater. In this book, Raymond Leslie Williams traces the themes of history, culture, and identity in Fuentes' work, particularly in his complex, major novel Terra Nostra. He opens with a biography of Fuentes that links his works to his intellectual life. The heart of the study is Williams' extensive reading of the novel Terra Nostra, in which Fuentes explores the presence of Spanish culture and history in Latin America. Williams concludes with a look at how Fuentes' other fiction relates to Terra Nostra, including Fuentes' own division of his work into fourteen cycles that he calls "La Edad del Tiempo," and with an interview in which Fuentes discusses his concept of this cyclical division.
