Book Description
Fundamentals of Carrier Transport explores the behavior of charged carriers in semiconductors and semiconductor devices for readers without an extensive background in quantum mechanics and solid-state physics. This second edition contains many new and updated sections, including a completely new chapter on transport in ultrasmall devices and coverage of "full band" transport. Lundstrom also covers both low- and high-field transport, scattering, transport in devices, and transport in mesoscopic systems. He explains in detail the use of Monte Carlo simulation methods and provides many homework exercises along with a variety of worked examples. What makes this book unique is its broad theoretical treatment of transport for advanced students and researchers engaged in experimental semiconductor device research and development.
Customer Reviews:
It's a quantum world..........2004-09-03
There was a time when all a good semiconductor device engineer had to know was the drift-diffusion, Poisson, and continuity equations to model devices, with the Boltzmann transport equation having only made a brief cameo in one's life during a grad school course in Ashcroft and Mermin or some other solid state physics book. With shrinking device dimensions, those days are gone. Lundstrom, a Purdue professor, has written a fairly understandable book (though not easy) describing energy and momentum balance, Monte Carlo methods, and other tools of transport theory. I gave it 4 stars only because I found the notation and style a bit formal for an EE (although a solid state physics student would probably be right at home). On the plus side, there are some interesting topics not normally seen. For example, I believe this may be the only in-print textbook that has a derivation of Van der Pauw's equation for resistivity measurements used in Hall mobility tests by almost every epitaxial growth engineer/scientist on a daily basis. Overall, well worth the money.

Book Description
All living cells are strictly separated from their surroundings by a membranous lipid bilayer. Into these membranes a variety of transport proteins are embedded that ensure the uptake and secretion of various molecules and ions. In order to respond properly to a changing nutrient supply or demand, as well as to external stress factors, cells must be able to adapt both amount and activity of the corresponding transporters. This book provides readers with state-of-the-art knowledge on the various regulatory mechanisms that control transmembrane transporter expression, activity and their subcellular localisation.

Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Talking horses, plural. Not a single one of them named Ed that I recall, either. That is a pity, as it would have made this book eminently more readable than the pretty lame tale contained here.
This is an overextended fairy tale with the odd Greek mythological reference or two thrown in. Generally not very good.
Mystery and Magical.......2007-08-31
I think that this book is a wonderful thing to read if you like wondering what will happen next. A boy named Shasta runs away from Areesh, an old fisherman, to find his real father and be free. This book taught me that anything can happen if you trust in God and belive in yourself. It was written by C.S.Lewis, a Christian author. There are seven books in the whole series, so try reading this book; I'm sure you'll like it.
The Sun appeared dark in my eyes when I finished this book.......2007-08-22
'The Horse and His Boy' is the 5th in publishing order of the Chronicles of Narnia. This story takes place during the reigns of Peter, Edmund, Lucy and Susan as told at the end of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. As such Lucy, Edmund and Susan have small roles, but the protagonist is Shasta a boy who lives with his adoptive father in the land of Calormen. When he discovers that his father means to sell him into slavery, he resolves to run away. He his helped by a talking horse named Bree. Together they resolve to flee north to Narnia and freedom.
This is a wonderful story, with Calormen and the city of Tashbaan evocative of the Arabian Nights tales. Aravis, Shasta, Bree and Hwin are perhaps Lewis's most well rounded characters yet.
This Book Is A Must Read .......2007-07-01
This book is rich, full of imagination, beautiful language and new words, exciting for both boys and girls, and puts the "A" in Adventure! Read it to your 8 or 10 year old. Go on the adventure with them. It's full of wisdom and heart. C.S. Lewis knew how to tell a story... but what's more... he knew the stories that needed to be told. If it is true that we are what we read... you and/or your child will be no less, but a great deal more for the reading of this C.S. Lewis "Chronicles of Narnia" Classic. It is because of children's literature like this, that C.S. Lewis always will be remembered as one of the wisest, deepest thinkers, and most respected theologians during our time. I look forward to the film version....
Most Divurgent of the Chronicles.......2007-04-16
This third book in the Chronicles of Narnia stands out from the others in that it is the only one that doesn't star children of our world being magically transported to Narnia. The protagonist is a boy named Shasta who lives in Colormen across a vast desert from Narnia. Shasta finds that he is soon to be sold to a Calormene noble, and decides to run away and teams up with a talking Narnian warhorse named Bree who is decended of Narnian horses. The siblings high kings and queens from "Narnia" do make a guest appearance, now adults and fully integrated into the Narnian world. But this book is mostly concerned with the escalating tensions between Calormene and narnia and the adventures of a horse and his boy, as the title replies. Lewis creates an enchanting story with the classic ingredients of an epic wuest, with plenty of intriguing symbolism along the way, and plenty of help from the ever-watchful best-loved lion Aslan.

Book Description
Billy was a little boy who "loved horses more than anything else in the world." Imagine how happy he was when he got his very own pony for his birthday! From that day on, Billy was seldom seen without his new friend, Blaze.
Riding through fields and woods, Billy and Blaze learned to trust and understand one another -- and to jump over fences and fallen trees with ease. They were a great team, but were they good enough to win the gleaming silver cup at the Mason Horse Show?
This is the first book in the classic Billy and Blaze series. Sensitive drawings and easy-to-read words capture the warmth and gentle understanding between a boy and his horse.

Hoofs and Wheels.......2004-04-27
While women generally ride for pleasure to feel the wind and the movement of the horse beneath, a boys ride is different in that it is the power and speed of the ride that are most dear to him in these chariots of fire, the roar of the engine, the hoofs and the noise of the wheels that inspire their thrill. Boys tend to drive either their horses or their cars to see the height of their power, and whether the beauty of black or the silver shine of white, the joy of the command lies in the skill of the rider and the knowledge of his horse, or his engine, a sight that most can appreciate, understand, and admire.

for fun and adventure.
The Billy and Blaze series is great fun. Young boys, even those not interested in horses, will love these books. My 7yo has never had an interest in horses (he thinks they smell bad) but he hangs on to every word of these adventurous stories.
A wonderful, wonderful set of stories..........2000-02-24
I read these books as a little kid... The illustrations are incredibly beautiful and lifelike, and the stories are equally enjoyable. Billy and Blaze's adventures would capture the heart and mind of any child -- or even adult! - with their emotional strength and superb literary quality. I can't recommend these books highly enough... every one of them.
A beautifully written and illustrated children's classic.......1999-07-10
All of the Billy & Blaze stories were among my favorites as a child; I'm so glad they are available again. The illustrations alone make these stories classic children's literature!
Great story of a child relating to an animal.......1999-06-10
I grew up reading the entire series of the Blaze books by C.W. Anderson and they have become favorites of my children. Billy loves his pony, and his pony loves him. There is a mutual respect that only love can inspire. Apart from the story, Anderson is a consumate illustrator.
Book Description
THE RECOLLECTIONS OF SKINNER OF SKINNER'S HORSE INDIA'S MOST FAMOUS CAVALRYMAN RECOUNTS HIS CAREER. James Skinner had a colourful career. He began his military exploits as a mercenary for Indian princes and became a legend as the leader of the 'Yellow Boys' - his renowned irregular cavalry. In the early years of the British domination of the sub-continent Skinner at some time fought almost every martial race India had to offer. These adventures (originally written in Persian) are clear and directly recounted and are supported by text by J. Baily Fraser who gives context to Skinners world.

The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis, is one of the very few sets of books that should be read three times: in childhood, early adulthood, and late in life. In brief, four children travel repeatedly to a world in which they are far more than mere children and everything is far more than it seems. Richly told, populated with fascinating characters, perfectly realized in detail of world and pacing of plot, and profoundly allegorical, the story is infused throughout with the timeless issues of good and evil, faith and hope. This boxed set edition includes all seven volumes.

Collection includes all seven novels in the series.

Timeless Set, Great Presentation.......2007-10-05
This set is a great gift whether you were a kid 40 years ago or you're a kid now. For years this set of books has taken millions of readers an adventure after adventure. If you enjoyed them as a child or even as an adult, get this set and share the adventure with your loved ones.
Wonderful book , very absorbing.......2007-09-28
I am almost thru with the Chronicles of Narnia and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Great read and so absorbing.
Meets expectations.......2007-09-26
Boxed book set was in like-new condition; on line description was precise. Shipment was prompt. Would not hesitate to order from here again.
Narnia boxed set.......2007-09-17
Nice box. Paperbacks are cheap productions but it is an ok set for the price.
The Real Fantasy.......2007-08-25
Well, usually I despise the kind of fantasy with talking animals and little kids hopping around, as the talking animals are a consequence of the author's inability to paint realistic humans, and the little kids a clear admission that the story is too simple to be appreciated by anyone with more critical sense of a kid.I also hate book "with a moral", they are stiff and feel "constructed" and artificial. This book is an exception in all senses. It's masterfully written, with a class and style the only the greatest writers possess. Characters are alive and breathing, both the humans and the animals, and merge beautifully, and the Christian inspiration flows silently, discreetly and subterraneanly almost all the time, with a class and reserve that reminds of the only Master. A precious , captivating , charming book that would be a real shame to miss if you have not already read it! And don't be discouraged by the horrible movie they made out of it. It had its usefulness for me, as I didn't even know this book existed until I heard about the movie, but luckily I expected the book to outclass that wretched excuse for a movie they did, and, man was I right!
So if you are up for a book that will bring you in a wonderful, colorful, exciting and enriching adventure hurry and get this book, and , as others have said, take care to read it in the original order on which it was written, not the "chronological Narnian order". Some publishers have been stupid enough to publish the various tales in this latter order which spoils most of the surprise and suspense.
The order in which you should read it is:
1) The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, 2) Prince Caspian, 3)The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, 4) The Silver Chair, 5) The Horse and His Boy, 6) The Magician's Nephew, and 7) The Last Battle
The only shadow on this masterpiece is the superficial and ill-chosen choice of the Narnians villains and enemies as people who are way too reminiscent (you could say copied) from our world stereotypical muslim people. besides being superficial and offensive, it also spoils the beauty of the tale with his gross oversimplification and stink of prejudice, ignorance and lack of fantasy. It's sad to see how the dark sides of religion , prejudice, closure, and lack of tolerance pollute not only our everyday life but even a literature masterpiece. Also, I would consider this book as made by the first 6 tales, the last one "The Last Battle" is hugely inferior to the other six, just a quick closure that lacks structure, coherence and , well, "magic".
Especially painful since it attempts to deal with the core of religion.. want to know what I mean by this? Go read the book!
Customer Reviews:
This book was quite intresting.......2007-05-23
During the Golden Days age of Narnia when Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy were the rulers of Narnia. A cabreme fisherman named Shasta takes his master's horse Bree. Shaston finds out Bree can talk, and he is not the son of Arsheesh. He meets a girl with another talking horse and rides into Archenland to find who he really is. I thought this book was very interesting and exciting. I read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe which is the prologue to this book. This book is just as good as the 2nd. If you like Fantasy then this would be an excellent book for you because the land of Narnia is full of talking animals and human/goats! The battle at the Archenland Castle was filled with killing, surprises, and exciting outcomes. If you read this book it would definitely be worth it!
