Predicting the Performance of Multistage Separation Processes, Second Edition

Book Description
Process Modelling and simulation have proved to be extremely successful engineering tools for the design and optimisation of physical, chemical and biochemical processes. The use of simulation has expanded rapidly over the last two decades because of the availability of large high-speed computers and indeed has become even more widespread with the rise of the desk-top PC resources now available to nearly every engineer and student.
In the chemical industry large, realistic non-linear problems are routinely solved with the aid of computer simulation. This has a number of benefits, including easy assessment of the economic desirability of a project, convenient investigation of the effects of changes to system variables, and finally the introduction of mathematical rigour into the design process and inherent assumptions that may not have been there before.
'Computational Methods for Process Simulation' develops the methods needed for the simulation of real processes to be found in the process industries. It also stresses the engineering fundamentals used in developing process models. Steady state and dynamic systems are considered, for both spatially lumped and spatially distributed problems. It develops analytical and numerical computational techniques for algebraic, ordinary and partial differential equations, and makes use of computer software routines that are widely available. Dedicated software examples are available via the internet.
Written for a compulsory course element in the US

Customer Reviews:
Very practical book.......2006-12-11
I was able to reply to a certain consulting
in semiconductor manufacturing site by reading
this book, Chapter 4.
It's very informative and worth buying widely
for scientists and engineers.
A good intro to semiconductor process modeling.......2004-05-28
This is a six chapter book, with six authors. As a result, the treatment of the subject matter is a bit uneven. Here is a snap shot of the chapters:
Chap 1 (Meyyappan) is a very general introduction
Chap 2 (Govindan & de Jong) reviews numerical methods. It is a good intro, but focuses on the finite difference method which isn't widely used (compared to the finite element and finite volume methods)
Chap 3 (Chan) focuses on crystal growth. It seems very comprehensive, but I am not an expert in this area
Chap 4 (Kleijn) is on chemical vapor deposition. This chapter is incredibly comprehensive and brilliantly written. Pretty much every aspect of CVD modeling is covered. This book is worth buying just for this chapter.
Chap 5 (Meyyappan) on plasma processes is a good introduction to the subject. Plasma modeling is incredibly complex and this chapter shows many simplifications used to make the problem tractable.
Chap 6 (Campbell). A very clear and readable description of modeling techniques used in Rapid Thermal Annealing.
The book provides enough information to understand the modeling methods used and where they are applied. It probably doesn't provide enough information to write your own programs.
Good book.......2000-06-18
This book includes almost everything that need to be considered in simulating the semiconductor processing, especially the CVD process and crystal growth. Perfect!

Book Description
The past few decades have brought significant advances in the computational methods and in the experimental techniques used to study transport phenomena in materials processing operations. However, the advances have been made independently and with competition between the two approaches. Mathematical models are easier and less costly to implement, but experiments are essential for verifying theoretical models. In Mathematical and Physical Modeling of Materials Processing Operations, the authors bridge the gap between mathematical modelers and experimentalists. They combine mathematical and physical modeling principles for materials processing operations simulation and use numerous examples to compare theoretical and experimental results. The modeling of transport processes is multi-disciplinary, involving concepts and principles not all of which can be associated with just one field of study. Therefore, the authors have taken care to ensure that the text is self-sustaining through the variety and breadth of topics covered. Beyond the usual topics associated with transport phenomena, the authors also include detailed discussion of numerical methods and implementation of process models, software and hardware selection and application, and representation of auxiliary relationships, including turbulence modeling, chemical kinetics, magnetohydrodynamics, and multi-phase flow. They also provide several correlations for representing the boundary conditions of fluid flow, heat transfer, and mass transfer phenomena. Mathematical and Physical Modeling of Materials Processing Operations is ideal for introducing these tools to materials engineers and researchers. Although the book emphasizes materials, some of the topics will prove interesting and useful to researchers in other fields of chemical and mechanical engineering.

Book Description
Mathematical modelling has a key role to play in the design, analysis, optimization and control of material processing technologies. The task of modelling is interdisciplinary, involving materials scientists, process technologists, as well as applied mathematicians. This meeting brought together representatives from all branches of mathematical modelling from the researchers who develop models of the microstructural changes that occur during forming and the developers of algorithms and codes as simulation tools to those who employ such models and tools in an industrial context.

Book Description
Mary Halavais's Like Wheat to the Miller: Community, Convivencia, and the Construction of Morisco Identity in Sixteenth-Century Aragon reopens the question of the reality of convivencia in Aragon during the 16th century in a tightly-woven examination of two villages, Báguena and Burbaguena, in the Jiloca valley. On the basis of notarial records, parish registers, and ecclesiastical archives, Halavais argues that in these villages local laity and religion made little distinction between old Christians and new (Moriscos): These distinctions were imposed from the outside by ecclesiastical authorities and royal agents. Employing literature on 16th-century Spain along with archival materials, this book provocatively posits that the marginalization of Moriscos was imposed on localities by central authorities and not out of antagonism in the local communities themselves.
Product Description
Martin Luther's lectures on Genesis during the last decade of his life, allows modern readers to view a sixteenth-century professor engaging his students with the text of scripture and using that text to form them spiritually. Luther attempted to form in his students a new identity-an Evangelical identity-enabling them to make sense of the rapidly changing society and church in which they were being prepared to serve, primarily as pastors in the developing territorial churches of the Reformation. This study uses the text of the lectures to outline the contours of the new identity that Luther laid out through his exposition of Genesis. They include how Luther approached and taught his students to perceive the text of holy scripture; how that text unveiled for Luther the nature of Christian life in the world; and how Luther taught his students to view the past, the present, and the future of the church and the world through the book of Genesis. Whether the historic Luther was actually misunderstood or was transformed in some way into the prophetic Luther of later memory, the text reveals the Luther that his students heard and subsequent generations read.

Book Description
The essays in this volume offer different perspectives on 16th-century thinking. Studying representations of geographical space, religious practices, and literary genres, the contributors explore the emergence of the early modern subject.
Book Description
While there is overwhelming evidence that nationalism reached its peak in the later nineteenth century, views about when precisely national thinking and sentiment became strong enough to override all other forms of collective unity differ considerably. When one looks for the historical moment when the concept of the nation became a serious - and subsequently victorious - competitor to the monarchic dynasty as the most effective principle of collective unity, one must, at least for England, go back as far as the sixteenth century. The decisive change occurred when a split between the dynastic ruler and "England" could be widely conceived of and intensely felt, a split that established the nation as an autonomous - and more precious - body. Whereas such a differentiation between king and country was still imperceptible under Henry VIII, it was already an historical reality during the reign of Queen Mary.
That the most important factors in this radical change were the Reformation and the printing press is by now well known. The particular aim of this volume is to demonstrate the pivotal role of pamphleteering - and the growing importance of public opinion in a steadily widening sense - within the process of the historical emergence of the concept of the nation as a culturally and politically guiding force. When it came to the voicing of dissident opinions, above all under Queen Mary and later during the reign of King James and Charles I, the printed pamphlet proved to be a far superior form of communication.
This does not mean that books played no role in the early development and dissemination of the concept of an English nation. Especially the compendious new English histories written at the time did much to support the growth of cultural identity.
