Book Description

MPEG-4 is the multimedia standard for combining interactivity, natural and synthetic digital video, audio and computer-graphics. Typical applications are: internet, video conferencing, mobile videophones, multimedia cooperative work, teleteaching and games. With MPEG-4 the next step from block-based video (ISO/IEC MPEG-1, MPEG-2, CCITT H.261, ITU-T H.263) to arbitrarily-shaped visual objects is taken. This significant step demands a new methodology for system analysis and design to meet the considerably higher flexibility of MPEG-4.
Motion estimation is a central part of MPEG-1/2/4 and H.261/H.263 video compression standards and has attracted much attention in research and industry, for the following reasons: it is computationally the most demanding algorithm of a video encoder (about 60-80% of the total computation time), it has a high impact on the visual quality of a video encoder, and it is not standardized, thus being open to competition.
Algorithms, Complexity Analysis, and VLSI Architectures for MPEG-4 Motion Estimation covers in detail every single step in the design of a MPEG-1/2/4 or H.261/H.263 compliant video encoder:
Algorithms, Complexity Analysis and VLSI Architectures for MPEG-4 Motion Estimation is an important introduction to numerous algorithmic, architectural and system design aspects of the multimedia standard MPEG-4. As such, all researchers, students and practitioners working in image processing, video coding or system and VLSI design will find this book of interest.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book for research on motion estimation in MPEG4.......2000-12-13

For mpeg4 motion estimation, it is the only book on the market that well explains and covers with complete algorithms analysis. The references of the papers for each chapter give you more clues about the each algorithm implementation. I would recommend also reference to ISO/IEC 14496-5 MPEG4 codec software and specs to help you understand MPEG4 codec in digital video processing and implementation on streaming media

5 out of 5 stars professional book for implementation.......2000-05-10

      Book Description

Complexity of Lattice Problems: A Cryptographic Perspective is an essential reference for those researching ways in which lattice problems can be used to build cryptographic systems. It will also be of interest to those working in computational complexity, combinatorics, and foundations of cryptography.
The book presents a self-contained overview of the state of the art in the complexity of lattice problems, with particular emphasis on problems that are related to the construction of cryptographic functions. Specific topics covered are the strongest known inapproximability result for the shortest vector problem; the relations between this and other computational lattice problems; an exposition of how cryptographic functions can be built and prove secure based on worst-case hardness assumptions about lattice problems; and a study of the limits of non-approximability of lattice problems. Some background in complexity theory, but no prior knowledge about lattices, is assumed.
The aim of the authors is to make lattice-based cryptography accessible to a wide audience, ultimately yielding further research and applications. Complexity of Lattice Problems: A Cryptographic Perspective will be valuable to anyone working in this fast-moving field. It serves as an excellent reference, providing insight into some of the most challenging issues being examined today.

        Book Description

Cryptography plays a crucial role in many aspects of today's world, from internet banking and ecommerce to email and web-based business processes. Understanding the principles on which it is based is an important topic that requires a knowledge of both computational complexity and a range of topics in pure mathematics. This book provides that knowledge, combining an informal style with strong proofs of the key results to provide an accessible introduction. It includes many examples and exercises, and is based on a highly successful course developed and taught over many years.

          Book Description

Modern cryptology increasingly employs mathematically rigorous concepts and methods from complexity theory. Conversely, current research topics in complexity theory are often motivated by questions and problems from cryptology. This book takes account of this situation, and therefore its subject is what may be dubbed "cryptocomplexity'', a kind of symbiosis of these two areas.

This book is written for undergraduate and graduate students of computer science, mathematics, and engineering, and can be used for courses on complexity theory and cryptology, preferably by stressing their interrelation. Moreover, it may serve as a valuable source for researchers, teachers, and practitioners working in these fields. Starting from scratch, it works its way to the frontiers of current research in these fields and provides a detailed overview of their history and their current research topics and challenges.

            Book Description

In order for wireless devices to function, the signals must be coded in standard ways so that the sender and the receiver can communicate. This area of video source coding is one of the key challenges in the worldwide push to deliver full video communications over wireless devices. This important new book reviews current progress in this field and looks at how to solve some of the most important technology issues in the months and years ahead.
The vision of being able to communicate from anywhere, at any time, and with any type of information is on its way to becoming reality. This natural convergence of mobile communications and multimedia is a field that is expected to achieve unprecedented growth and commercial success. Current wireless communication devices support a number of basic multimedia services (voice, messages, basic internet access), but have coding problems that need to be solved before "real-time" mobile video communication can be achieved.

Addresses the emerging field of mobile multimedia communications
