Book Description
Since time immemorial mankind has been plagued by the question "What do you do with a dead cat?" Here, at last, in 101 hilarious, outrageous, and (sometimes) downright sick cartoons, are some answers.
101 black-and-white illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Blah........2007-01-19
Now, I have a pretty good sick humor, but this one was grasping for ideas. I bought this one for my crazy cat loving friend (who can also appreciate some good morbid humor), but I think I'd be too embarassed to give it to her.
The art was bad and the ideas weren't funny. Now if you have a sick sense of humor, check out "Creepy Susie: And 13 Other Tragic Tales for Troubled Children" by Angus Oblong. Now those are funny.
I'm returning it.
Fun for all.......2006-12-09
I had this book when I was a child, but last year I bought it for a friend for her birthday (20 years old). With me being a dog lover and her a cat lover, I was surprised at how much we both enjoyed it. This is a book that would be fun for most ages.
Fun as a child.......2005-07-13
I am a cat lover and although I laughed at a few of the cartoons I can see where a child would find this book hysterical! I would recommend it for kids!
A very naughty but very funny book........2005-04-12
Although this book is now quite old it has lost none of it's ascerbic wit. And it is wit with a dark, naughty and twisted edge which does not have to work hard to illustrate it's point, it does exactly what you would expect of the title and why would you look if you felt as though you would be offended?
I believe this kind of base, juvenille humour is needed by us all at time's. The hilarity of the forbidden and taboo subject is intensely and achingly funny sometimes. Surely everyone remembers wanting to howl with laughter when being heftily scalded as a child?
To ignore we have such base instincts is to deny being human and assume superiorty over ones peers, quite hilarious in itself really, it is afterall, JUST A BOOK!
This book is wickedly funny and a huge "pick-me-up" with no real malice intended! To the book's detractors and disapprovers I say, Lighten up folks! NO ACTUAL CATS WERE HURT IN THE MAKING OF THE BOOK!!
Not Funny.......2005-03-23
I hate this book. And not because I love cats. I do not. But because this book is not funny. Period. This book is little more than sloppy cartoons and one formula replicated 50 times. It lacks humor and satire. The book may have been provocative 25 years ago, but today it is vacuous and inane.

More amusing practical tips. This man is quite ingenious in coming up
with sensible and not so sensible things to do with the stray corpus
felinus that you might have lying around, or are thinking of producing.
Really very funny, indeed. Worth a look for a chuckle.
I wish I thought of that........1998-03-11
A continuation of his first book. His ideas are so stupid, that they are funny. A book for cat haters and lovers.
Customer Reviews:
Cat Haters Beware!!.......2004-02-03
This book is revenge for "The Official I Hate Cats Book" and "101 Uses For A Dead Cat". The pictures are rather amusing. Instead of a riding a mechanical bull, there's a cat riding a "mechanical human". Cats have found many uses for a dead human: A "piggy" bank, a basketball net, dominos, a scarecrow and even a seesaw. It's a light satire and I recommend it to anyone who has a "cat hater" in the family.

Book Description
After 'Hit Man'
The New York Times bestseller Confessions of an Economic Hit Man documents John Perkins’ extraordinary career as a globe-trotting economic hit man. Perkins’ insider’s view leads him to crisis of conscience--to the realization that he must devote himself to work which will foster a world-wide awareness of the sanctity of indigenous peoples, their cultures, and their environments. Perkins’ books demonstrate how the age-old shamanic techniques of some of the world’s most primitive peoples have sparked a revolution in modern concepts about healing, the subconscious, and the powers each of us has to alter individual and communal reality.
Many indigenous cultures practice shapeshifting. Native American hunters take on the spirit of their prey to ensure a successful hunt; Asian medicine men “ingest” a sickness to heal the one afflicted; Amazon warriors become jaguars to soundlessly travel the jungle. Those who shapeshift understand that all of life is energy and that by focusing your intent you can change energetic patterns, rendering a new form. Shapeshifting can occur on three levels: cellular--transforming from human to plant or animal; personal--becoming a new self or leaving an addiction behind; and institutional--creating a new business or cultural identity.
Since 1968, master shamans in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas have been training John Perkins to teach the industrial world about the powerful techniques involved in shapeshifting. His groundbreaking book takes you to deserts and jungles, mountains and oceans, medical research centers and corporate board rooms to learn the step-by-step methods of this practice that integrates ancient and modern techniques to bring about profound healing.
Customer Reviews:
Read everything John writes. .......2007-07-09
Shapeshifting is a great book in my opinion. Perkins has traveled far and wide to work on behalf of indigenous cultures and their wisdom traditions to help sustain these communities and their ancient ways. As founder of Dream Change Coalition, Perkins has done as much as anyone (with the possible exception of Al Gore) to work to change human consumption patterns and corporate hegemony now destroying these cultures.
Shapeshifting tells a powerful tale of healing and wisdom lost on Eurocentric Peoples. Shapeshifting is more than a personal practice invoked by shamans of the jungle and Andes but a practice of human transformation on multiple levels and contexts of awareness. Perkins is engaged in an endeavor to shape shift human hegemony and preoccupation with consumption to create sustainable outcomes for the earth on all those who live on her.
This is a great book by a modern visionary and activist of the highest caliber.
A fascinating read.......2007-06-11
In "Shapeshifting," John Perkins, author of the bestseller "Confessions of an Economic Hitman," shares lessons he has learned from shamans in the Yucatan, the Andes, the Amazon, the Middle East, and Indonesia. Shapeshifting was a new concept for me, and I was amazed to learn that there are shamans who can supposedly transform themselves on a cellular level into another form, such as a tree, a bat, or a ball of energy. Indeed, many people might be skeptical of these accounts, as well as Perkins' account of his own shapeshift. However, skeptics can still benefit by thinking about shapeshifting at a more metaphorical level. Perkins himself has transformed from an "economic hitman" into an author and activist working to change people's perceptions, and both individuals and institutions can benefit from similar shapeshifts. Indeed, Perkins hopes that indigenous wisdom can help to transform our core institutions into ones that support a sustainable world. Deliberately suspending judgments on what is possible as I read this book, I felt my awareness expand and gained a new appreciation for the power of the mind/ spirit.
An Amazing Journey.......2007-02-22
John Perkins takes the reader on a spellbinding journey through shaman rich cultures around the world--but particularly those in Central and South America. He shares both his self-doubts and his insights as he "shapeshifts" from economic hitman to a kind of enlightened dream weaver. Written in a relaxed, conversational style, Perkins gives just the right amount of detail and description of his experiences. This is the kind of book that makes one ponder and deeply reflect on life's journey. It really is a "shapeshifter".
A truly mind blowing book. A must read for the enlightened. .......2007-01-04
Trust your inner voice and read this book. I think we can all learn from other cultures.
Inspirational.......2006-11-03
John Perkins does an excellent job of showing his transformation of self. Although he travels worldwide, his writings inspire transforming and increasing awareness at home.

Book Description
On the afternoon when Angel Allegria arrives at the Poloverdos’ farmhouse, he kills the farmer and his wife. But he spares their child, Paolo–a young boy who will claim this as the day on which he was born. Together the killer and the boy begin a new life on this remote and rugged stretch of land in Chile.
Then Luis Secunda, a well-to-do and educated fellow from the city descends upon them. Paolo is caught in the paternal rivalry between the two men. But life resumes its course . . . until circumstances force the three to leave the farm. In doing so, Angel and Luis confront their pasts as well as their inevitable destinies–destinies that profoundly shape Paolo’s own future.

A different sort of story.......2006-04-08
How often does this scenario occur - a man comes and murders your parents, spares you, and then decides to become your father? This story is odd. The murderer and child grow to love one another. The murderer is consumed with guilt and love at the same time. Eventually he must pay for the sins of his past. I feel better at least that the boy in the story seems to grow up into a well-adjusted man, and learns to love a good woman. In some strange way, the love of the killer made the boy's life better, and his life as a man reflects that.
Book Description
Since the days of the Spanish Conquest, the indigenous populations of Andean Bolivia have struggled to preserve their textile-based writings. This struggle continues today, both in schools and within the larger culture. The Metamorphosis of Heads explores the history and cultural significance of Andean textile writings--weavings and kipus (knotted cords), and their extreme contrasts in form and production from European alphabet-based texts. Denise Arnold examines the subjugation of native texts in favor of European ones through the imposition of homogenized curricula by the Educational Reform Law. As Arnold reveals, this struggle over language and education directly correlates to long-standing conflicts for land ownership and power in the region, since the majority of the more affluent urban population is Spanish speaking, while indigenous languages are spoken primarily among the rural poor. The Metamorphosis of Heads acknowledges the vital importance of contemporary efforts to maintain Andean history and cultural heritage in schools, and shows how indigenous Andean populations have incorporated elements of Western textual practices into their own textual activities.
Based on extensive fieldwork over two decades, and historical, anthropological, and ethnographic research, Denise Arnold assembles an original and richly diverse interdisciplinary study. The textual theory she proposes has wider ramifications for studies of Latin America in general, while recognizing the specifically regional practices of indigenous struggles in the face of nation building and economic globalization.

Product Description
A novel about choice the random decisions that determine the path that life will follow. It's set in scenic Cape Town in the new, post-election South Africa, a country in a state of transformation. Retrenchment, affirmative action, technological change, AIDS and emigration are some of the issues that complicate the lives and loves of three close friends -- an insect trio, linked by their discordant proportions. Ann is too tall -- a lanky mosquito of a girl. Sophie is too fat -- a bee of royal proportions. She's a strong soprano and follows a career in music. And Jacqueline is too small -- the fine-boned, sensual firefly of the team. She holds a masters degree in social anthropology and dabbles with the sangomas and holistic healing. Their career choices lead them to the eastern and western corners of the globe. The story moves through time and chronicles the evolution of their careers and lifestyles as they move through an insect cycle of metamorphosis to migration, reproduction and perhaps extinction.

Book Description
Metamorphosis and the Emergence of the Feminine: A Motif of "Difference" in Women's Writing examines a motif of metamorphosis that follows the models of self-awareness proposed in several feminist theories. Women writers from both North and South America, including those from different ethnic groups in the United States, employ the motif of insect and seed metamorphosis, which shows a development of the motif in stages as women increasingly become aware of the existence of a feminine self that is not acknowledged in language. The use of the motif by these writers, separated by both distance and influence, is an attempt by women writers to reject the "casting" of women's experience in the archetypal images of Persephone and Penelope, as was traditionally assigned to the feminine by Western civilization. Instead, the use of the metamorphosis motif promotes the adoption of the image of Psyche's search as appropriate to reflect the feminine quest for autonomy.

Book Description
This book is an extension of Dr. Spooner's previous work on the interplay of insect processes and human culture as discussed in "The Metaphysics of Insect Life" (ISP, 1995). It continues the application of the literary, philosophical, and scientific methods employed there to the main currents in the evolution of modern Hispanic literature. On one level, it is part of the new cultural-ecological criticism. Assessing the incursion of South American rainforest ecology into the poetry of Silva, Dario and later Eguren, this study considers their impact on Rueda, Aleixandre, Jimenez, Lorca, and Valente among others, balancing this with a recognition of Spain's indigenous post-romantic modernism. Then, while taking account of the insects in Juan Goytisolo's novels, Spooner will throw more light on the books of Marquez, Cortazar and Fuentes, where the striking of the medieval across the modern is interpreted as related to the metamorphoses of insects, and indeed the processes of literary development itself. The book concludes with a consideration of the metaphysical and scientific implications of this analysis.
Customer Reviews:
an original spin on 20th century hispanic literature.......2002-01-03
This is an especially interesting angle from which to read Spanish and Latin American poetry. Dr. Spooner shows how insects permeate the literature, and are a clue to the significance of aspects of nature overlooked by other Western poetry. The insects are not merely making up the numbers, but generate the meaning of the life of the planet.
There is excellent information on lesser known writers like Andrade from the earlier part of the 20th century, whose environmental outlook strikes me as entirely contemporary.
