Springer Handbook of Condensed Matter and Materials Data
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 3540443762 |
Book Description
Springer Handbook of Condensed Matter and Materials Data provides a concise compilation of data and functional relationships from the fields of solid-state physics and materials in this 1200-page volume. The data, encapsulated in over 750 tables and 1025 illustrations, have been selected and extracted primarily from the extensive high-quality data collection Landolt-Börnstein and also from other systematic data sources and recent publications of physical and technical property data. Many chapters are authored by Landolt-Börnstein editors, including the prominent Springer Handbook editors, W. Martienssen and H. Warlimont themselves.
The Handbook is designed to be useful as a desktop reference for fast and easy retrieval of essential and reliable data in the lab or office. References to more extensive data sources are also provided in the book and by interlinking to the relevant sources on the enclosed CD-ROM.
Physicists, chemists and engineers engaged in fields of solid-state sciences and materials technologies in research, development and application will appreciate the ready access to the key information coherently organized within this wide-ranging Handbook.
From the reviews:
"...this is the most complete compilation I have ever seen... When I received the book, I immediately searched for data I never found elsewhere..., and I found them rapidly... No doubt that this book will soon be in every library and on the desk of most solid state scientists and engineers. It will never be at rest." -Physicalia Magazine

Defects and Surface-Induced Effects in Advanced Perovskites (NATO Science Partnership Sub-Series: 3:)
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0792362160 |
Book Description
Complex oxide materials, especially the ABO 3-type perovskite materials, have been attracting growing scientific interest due to their unique electro-optical properties, leading to photorefractive effects that form the basis for such devices as holographic storage, optical data processing and phase conjugation. The optical and mechanical properties of non-metals are strongly affected by the defects and impurities that are unavoidable in any real material. Nanoscopically sized surface effects play an important role, especially in multi-layered ABO 3 structures, which are good candidates for high capacity memory cells.

Effective Field Approach to Phase Transitions and Some Applications to Ferroelectrics (World Scientific Lecture Notes in Physics)
Julio A. Gonzalo Manufacturer: World Scientific Publishing Company ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 9810203233 |
Book Description
The first half of the book presents the effective field approach, which is certainly the simplest approach to investigate cooperative phenomena and the accompanying phase transitions. It provides a common, intuitive approximation to the physics of such diverse phenomena as liquid-vapor transitions, ferromagnetism, superconductivity, order-disorder in alloys, ferroelectricity, superfluidity and ferroelasticity. The connection between the effective field approach and Landau's phenomenological theory is stressed. The latter half is devoted to some specific applications of the effective field concept to ferroelectric systems.

Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals (Ferroelectricity and Related Phenomena)
J. W. Goodby Manufacturer: Routledge ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 2881242820 |
Book Description
Ferroelectricity Liquid Crystals: Principles, Properties and Applications discusses the ferroelectric properties of optically active ordered fluids. The book is composed of self-contained chapters that deal with the broad aspects of this subject, from theoretical insights to commercial applications. this is the first textbook devoted solely to the rapidly expanding subject of ferroelectric liquid crystals, a unique class of substances that combine the electric polarization and anisotropy of ferroelectric crystals with the hydrodynamic properties of liquids. Ferroelectric liquid crystals represent a new generation of materials for displays, optical memories and optical computers, and may ultimately revolutionize flat panel display technology.

The Ecology of Adaptive Radiation (Oxford Series in Ecology and Evolution (Paper))
Dolph Schluter Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0198505221 |
Book Description
Adaptive radiation is the evolution of diversity within a rapidly multiplying lineage. It can cause a single ancestral species to differentiate into an impressively vast array of species inhabiting a variety of environments. Much of life's diversity has arisen during adaptive radiations. Some of the most famous recent examples include the East African cichlid fishes, the Hawaiian silverswords, and of course, Darwin's Galapagos finches,. This book evaluates the causes of adaptive radiation. It focuses on the 'ecological' theory of adaptive radiation, a body of ideas that began with Darwin and was developed through the early part of the 20th Century. This theory proposes that phenotypic divergence and speciation in adaptive radiation are caused ultimately by divergent natural selection arising from differences in environment and competition between species. In The Ecology of Adaptive Radiation the author re-evaluates the ecological theory, along with its most significant extensions and challenges, in the light of all the recent evidence. This important book is the first full exploration of the causes of adaptive radiation to be published for decades, written by one of the world's best young evolutionary biologists.

Molecular Evolution and Adaptive Radiation
Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items: ASIN: 0521779294 |
Book Description
Molecular Evolution and Adaptive Radiation surveys recent advances in the study of adaptive radiation by bringing together a set of international experts investigating a wide range of organisms in a variety of geographic settings. Givnish and Sytsma show how family trees derived from molecular characters can be used to analyze the origin and pattern of ecological and morphological diversification within a lineage in a noncircular fashion. They synthesize the recent explosion of research in this area, involving organisms as diverse as epiphytic and terrestrial orchids, water hyacinths, African cichlids, New World monkeys, tropical fruit bats, carnivorous bromeliads, Hawaiian silverswords and fruit flies, North American Daphnia, Caribbean anoles, Canadian sticklebacks, and Australian marsupials. This volume will be of interest to graduate students and professional scientists in ecology, evolutionary biology, systematics, and biogeography.
