Don't buy if you need study dynamic models in diferential equations.

Many discrete-event simulation books make this book unique. Banks didn't focus particularily on some packages, but the foundation of discrete-event simulation. I think this book intended to people who has some simulation background. It's also a good reference for researchers or grad students as well as practitioners since many literature and simulation vendors are listed. For no-simulation-background reader, this book may be a good starting point -as the first book for simulation. However, you may need other related books if you want to learn some packages. Not a bad book at all, very recommend.
Good publication for the current practicing engineer........1999-03-16
If you have a good background in calculus based statistics, this is a good reference book. The author has pulled together great historical statistical testing and design info and integrates it with recent research. A good deal of the work comes out of research recently presented at the Winter Simulation Conference series. Each chapter has ample bibliographic information for further reading.

Networked learning is learning in which information and communications technology (ICT) is used to promote connections: between one learner and other learners; between learners and tutors; between a learning community and its learning resources. An excellent commentary on John's Apocalypse.......2006-09-02
In this book, Maahs does an excellent job of exploring the intricate details of John's Revelation. Specifically, he links the imagery used in John's apocalyptic writing to the imagery in the apocalyptic writings of the `Old Testament,' e.g. Daniel. This enables readers to anchor John's symbolic, and often confusing, language within his own tradition, i.e. the tradition of a first century Jew. Furthermore, Maahs's provides provocative insights about how said linguistic symbols refer to specific social-historical issues, such as the Roman Emperors and/or Roman cultic practices.
He begins his commentary by analyzing the seven churches. In this analysis, he exposes why each church, in its `uniqueness,' is a targets of John's letter/s. After introducing the churches themselves, he allows his commentary to follow the text, verse by verse, exploring the strengths and weakness of these seven early churches, while equally addressing how these strengths and weakness are directly related to the churches' involvement in the broader Roman community.
Finally, Maahs uses his analysis of these first century churches to expose weaknesses within the modern day church. By doing so, he shows us how the prophetic nature of John's letter is most firmly anchored in its ability to address the church's failure to live out God's call throughout history, whether that be in first century Rome or modern day America.
The best book on Revelation.......2002-04-09
I have read a number of commentaries on the Book of Revelation. This is by far the best of them all. It offers a clear elucidation of the text that is helpful for anyone trying to better under this important message from the Lord. I wish all of the premillenialists would consider its logical presentation and thereby gain greater insight in to a book they have so woefully misunderstood.
For those who wish to understand and teach the Revelation........2000-02-23
More than just a simple once over but less than an exhausting word by word commentary on the Revelation, this volume seeks to help the modern student of the book understand its background, historical setting and genre. In addition, this teaching-commentary is meant to represent a model for presenting John's Apocalypse in a class situation, whether that be a church Bible program or a college course. Special attention has been paid to those aspects of Revelation's message which challenge the spiritual vision of the modern Christian community and call it to live out its vocation as the community of the Menorah (John's seven churches are viewed through the image of the seven-branched candelabra of ancient Israel). Useful to layman and scholar.

Just begins to scratch the surface..........2002-11-27
While I would've loved to LOVE this book...I just couldn't. Marina Warner has barely scraped the surface of all there is to be said about myth and legend in connection with societal thinking in this little book (originally six essays for BBC radio). Each chapter undertakes a different aspect of society from women, to cannibalism, to our idealization of childhood. In all honesty, each one could've been a book in itself if expanded and pondered over. Due to the fact that each essay was relatively short it felt as if Warner's points were rushed and ill-researched. While I would put this book above some others that connect modern examples with myth, I still think that Warner could've done a more in-depth job and added more focus to individual chapters. They each seem to skip around a bit and lack effective organization.
Don't get me wrong, there are a number of gems in the pages of this work. Warner draws interesting parallels between myth and folklore and how it continues to resurface in modern times whether it be film, writing, television, etc. She also cites numerous outside sources that sound fascinating and that inspired her work. In a way, this work is a jumping-off point into a throng of directions into cultural criticism.

I really love reading Warner's work. Her analyses are sometimes surprising and often brilliant, the writing beautiful. I use this book in teaching Gender Psychology and when I wrote The Secret Lives of Girls (Free Press, 2002).
A Good Introduction to Folkloric Archetypes.......2001-08-09
I loved Marina Warner's _Monuments and Maidens: The Allegory of the Female Form_, so when I saw this book, I had to have it. I have to say that I'm a little bit disappointed after _Monuments and Maidens_. I expected a more in-depth study. Instead, these six essays barely seem to scratch the surface of the topics. These essays are basically transcripts of six lectures Warner gave for BBC radio, which explains their brevity, but it's a shame she didn't expand upon them when she decided to publish them in print.
Still, there are some very interesting things here. I would definitely recommend it if you're interested in folklore and are just starting your studies. For the advanced student, the book just leaves you wanting more.

These essays are some of the most interesting essays I've read in years. Warner integrates fairy tales, Greek myths, anthropology, and current cultural objects, events, and pasttimes to take on really interesting issues. Her essay "Boys will be Boys" is a must-read for gender classes; it discusses the lost narratives of masculinity, those that rewarded wit and cunning, and the current trend to show brute force prevailing. Those seeking to understand the Columbine shootings should have looked here first.

I was entertained, which is rather important to me. What I enjoyed the most about this book was how it would look at every single word in the sentence without missing a single one... while at the same time not shoving White LIghter philosphy in your face Good job.

This book is an eye-opener! Mr. Chitty's translation of the Bible, which has always been cryptic to me, provided waves of "AHA!!!" moments. His in-depth research and analyses leave little room for doubt. I anxiously await the next book as the writer left me hungry for more!!

A totally absorbing and mind expanding experience. Taking you through the Old Testament John Chitty makes his case giving the reader, "a close encounter of the third kind," as the nature, identity and person of Yahweh is revealed. At the end you will say, "yes,how else could it be?" A must read for passage into the Aquarian Age.

You must be looking for a something that's a little different than your standard romance novel or Harry Potter book. You have found it with The Broken Bible. I personally have always felt there was more out there than half invisible ghosts with wings flapping around. What about the dinosaurs, UFO's, different cultures, and our technology burst in the past 100 years? There is too much that fits into place; like a giant jigsaw puzzle, John takes all the pieces from many sources and puts them together. This creates a more accurate image of the universe. His dedication to the logical and research truly shines in this book. After reading this book I guarantee you will never look at the moon the same way again!!!

Don't let the size of this book fool ya! Once you start turning the pages you will be fascinated by this interesting, open, can-this-possibly-be-real? research by author, John Chitty. An interpretation of the Old Testament in a way that I had never imagined it before. You will be drawn in, you will have questions, you will wonder are we ready for the time of our visitation? Better fasten your seatbelts if you're not! This was a great read!

This is a series of "origins" tales, not a single story..........2004-06-18
I didn't quite know what I was getting into when I bought X-men Mutations. It's basically three stories of how Beast, Psylocke and Angel came to be their current selves. If you're looking for a single, cohesive storyline, you'll be disappointed.
What drew me to this title in the first place was the Archangel storyline, drawn by Walt Simonson - one of my favorite comic artists. This was the Apocalypse story featured in the early days of X-Factor, which I enjoyed very much. I wish it featured the entire story arc, which is what I was expecting when I bought this title, instead of just the part that focused on the Angel/Archangel transformation. What can you do, right?
The other two vignettes are stories I wasn't that interested in. The first features Beast's transformation from normal-looking jumping super guy to blue hairy jumping super guy. It's a mid-70's story that isn't drawn or scripted particularly well by today's standards. I honestly didn't spend that much time with it because I already knew the story and it couldn't hold my interest.
The Psylocke story happened after I stopped collecting comics, and I'll admit that I was curious to see how the more recent vintage X-men compared to what I was more familiar with. I knew that Wolverine played a significant role in the story, and that Psylocke had become pretty popular as a character. That said, I was surprised that the bad guy wound up being the Mandarin, the old Iron Man villain. I was also surprised that he had been conveniently installed as the ruler of The Hand, the ninja clan introduced in Frank Miller's classic Daredevil run. He seemed out of place in both roles, reducing The Hand's mystique in the process. I just couldn't see the outfit that Miller came up with taking orders from a run-of-the-mill villain like the Mandarin (never mind that Mandarins are Chinese while the Hand was a Japanese organization). Jim Lee's artwork was fine, but I'm afraid I have a tendency to compare it to John Byrne's work in the early 80's. It's a tough act to follow.
In the final equation, I'll say this - thumbs up on Angel/Archangel, thumbs down on Beast, and the jury's still out on Psylocke.
Offbeat little reprint book, pretty cool.......1999-10-19
Ok, here's the dirt on X-men Mutations: we've got the reprinted stories of the transformations of the Beast, Archangel, and Psylocke from fairly normal looking folks into their current, outre appearances. The stories range from fairly poor (the original blue beast transformation story from the 70's) to all out awesome, with the amazing Walt Simonson reinvention of Warren Worthington into the deadly Archangel and Jim Lee's scrumptious revamp of the already gorgeous Betsy Braddock into the mysterious and seductive ninja Psylocke of today. If you haven't read these issues before, you definately want to pick this collection up, if only for the Jim Lee Psylocke tale... which I forgot to mention also features the Mandarin and a certain hairy, adamantium laced mutant as well. Classic stories, Jim Lee at his artistic peak, funky Simonson X-factor...if this one doesn't have what you need, nothing does.

Absoloutely glorious poetry.......2001-07-09
This collection of poetry is from the Romanian author's time in American. The introduction gently provides the necessary background to recognize the names of the Romanian poets mixed among Ezra Pound, Sylvia Plath, Ovid ...
The recurrent images in this collection are from Orthodox Christianity, erotic episodes, Romanian landscapes ... While there are glimpses of political/social/religious oppression and the East/West Europe, Old/New World distinctions, the poetry is immediately accessible to an American.
Her distinctiveness is very low key but absolutely perfect lines. In "The Russian Army at Moldova" she explores the crucifixion of a man in 1992, she refers to the normal elements of the Passion, then to contemporary America (satellites, snow) and concludes with the line "I also take note of the high price of nails." It is the absolute concreteness in here-and-now images that make this poetry superb.
