Book Description
A full 48 years in the making, Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Singles 1955-2002 (10th Edition) is by far the biggest and best edition of our bestseller we've ever published. From vinyl 45s to CD singles to album tracks, here - and only here - are the more than 25,000 titles and 6,000 artists that appeared on Billboard's Pop music charts from January, 1955 through December, 2002. Painstakingly researched and brimming with basic chart facts, detailed artist and title data, plus great new features and format changes that make it more useful than ever!
Customer Reviews:
39 and holding?.......2007-05-26
If you are considering this book, you are probably 39 and holding, like I have been for the past 25 years. I started wondering "what was the title of that song?" and "who sang that one?". All those good tunes I grew up listening to in the late 50's on through the 80's. I bought this book (through Amizon of course) and just seeing the titles printed jarred loose melodies that have long been burried under the dust of time. Noboby plays them anymore, but the mind is a juke box of sorts and seeing a title is akin to putting a "nickle in the nickleodeon". This book is fun. Find music by artist or title. Lot's of trivia on the singers (Neil Diamond once considered changing his name to Noah Kaminsky and wrote for the TV show THE MONKEES). If you love the oldies, this book is great. KHF
rating the info.......2007-05-23
This is my third Whitburn Top Pop Singles book. Each one is so much better than the last with updated info on so many artists. If you are a true music info lover, than this is the book to get. We take it on vacation with us sometimes just so we have the answers at our fingertips whenever we want. A must buy.
Almost an encyclopedia of hits.......2007-03-28
A 1000-page book, Top Pop Singles is almost like an encyclopedia of hit music. It's a book that sums up the pop chart achievements for each recording artist in the US. Basically it is another edition with more recent period coverage (55-2002), but this time with a handful of improvements. Quoting from the book, for the first time ever, key information is now highlighted in red type. Numerous artist/groups that had their own listings in the past edition are now combined with their related artist or group. Biographical information now appears FOR EVERY artists. The chart information on other charts (like Adult Contemporary, R&B, Country and Rock Tracks) is now listed in red type. Song title section is now better organized with key word headings to make finding songs quicker and easier. Interesting detail symbol like 'the first hit in five years' is added.
The book also contains listings of TOP 600 Artists (of all time - 1955-2002), sorted both alphabetically and by ranks, TOP 30 artists for each decade, Top Artists by year & Category, Top Artist Achievements and more.
The Source for Answers to All Your Popular Music Questions.......2007-03-09
I've owned at least five other books of Joel Whitburn's information about music recordings based on Billboard magazine listings. The earliest one listed Billboard Top 100 records from 1955 to 1969. I think it had about 96 pages. I read it so often that it finally fell apart. If you buy records, sell records, or just play records, you'll want this book. It is bigger, better, and with much more information than that earlier volume. It is also a "must have" if you want answers to important questions such as: Did any Chuck Berry record ever hit number one on the Billboard chart? What was on the flip side of the ABBA hit "Fernando"? Which of these Bobby Vee records was the earliest, "Punish Her" or "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes"? What was the best selling single in 1999?
Top pop singles 1955-2002.......2007-02-01
I've had Top Pop Singles 1955-1990, but Top Pop Singles 1955-2002 has a lot more statistics and interesting charts.

Comments on earlier volumes: "William Cowper is one of the very greatest of letter-writers in English.... To read them is to be in touch with a mind of civilised humor and a style of healthy clarity.... The completed set will become an indispensable work of scholarship."--Critical Quarterly.
Volume V completes this definitive edition of Cowper's letters and prose. It contains a cumulative index for the set.

Customer Reviews:
Lot's of mistakes.......2007-07-06
This book has lots of mistakes (many circuits don't work), the author kept many magazines through years and reprinted the circuits he found in them.
One Step Above Paperweight or Doorstop.......2006-04-07
I already had Vol 1. of this series from decades ago. I thought the author had maybe improved the content and accuracy of his books. Sadly mistaken. Schematic diagrams are routinely missing values for parts or lacking important information. I have been in electronics for several decades and I again am greatly disappointed with lack of quality. I don't know if the author received permission to reprint these circuits on the condition he left out part values or what. For the money your better off somewhere else. Large voume of circuits diminished by poor quality of information.
More of an encyclopedia of circuit ideas than circuits themselves.......2005-12-06
Several readers have criticized this book for its lack of working circuits. Let me say that I too have run up against this problem while lifting circuits from this book. However, I like to look at this book as a great compendium of circuit ideas that are going to need some modification if they are to work as advertised. I particularly liked the sections on game circuits, sound-effect circuits, and sound/voice activated circuits. I have built several of these, and I had to make some adjustments to each one. The point is that the basic ideas were all there along with pretty good descriptions for each circuit. The author also takes the time to introduce electronic parts with which you may not be familiar. If you are not already familiar with electronics, this is not the book for you, since familiarity with electronics and circuit design is assumed. However, for only $40 I think it is a great value for those with the correct background.
Perhaps I can help.......2000-11-21
This series contains thousands of schematics from a variety of sources. I'm quite sure that few, if any, were tested by the authors. However, based on the sources, most probably were tested by the originators. The explanations were sparse, and there were errors, some obvious. As such, these are probably not suitable for beginners. However, I find them to be very valuable, and I suspect that many experienced techs, engineers, hobbiests, and experimenters will as well. I often use part of one circuit as the seed of an idea for a circuit I am designing, with the end result bearing little resemblance to the original. These are filled with perhaps the most valuable of all resources - other people's ideas. I do wish the authors had been more careful to catch errors.
FOrgive the Author he knows not what to do.......1999-12-07
After puchasing volumes 1-6 as a group and testing some of the circuits I spent many hours correcting the mistakes and errors in these circuits. I threw the books into the closet and designed from scratch my own circuits, it took far less time and they work when I'm done. I wish you could hold the authors accountable for lost time I could hire a design staff larger than Microsoft.

Book Description
PATTY'S has become one of Wiley's flagship publications in occupational health and safety, and the toxicology volumes give proof to the growth and development of the field of toxicology. What began as a single volume devoted to the field with the first edition (1948) of Patty's has now mushroomed into eight. This Fifth Edition will permit us to bring about many badly needed changes to the format and organization of the toxicology volumes. In addition to standardizing the format and sequence in which toxicologic data is presented for all of the compounds, the compounds will be organized according to logical groupings, e.g., the metals will be covered in 23 separate chapters making up Volumes II and III; Vol. IV will contain four chapters on aromatic hydrocarbons and 7 chapters on organic nitrogen compounds; Vol. V will contain eight chapters on organic halogenated hydrocarbons and four on aliphatic carboxylic acids; Vol. VI will feature three chapters on ketones, two on alcohols, and five on esters; and Vol. VII will include four chapters on epoxy compounds, two on gycol ethers, and eight on synthetic polymers. The reorganization of chapters in Volumes II through VI by itself will vastly facilitate information searching and retrieval. Volume VIII, like Volume I, does not cover compounds but rather other major issues in toxicology assessment or other forms of toxic agents.

Brian from Hull.......2006-12-19
This book is generally designed to help a beginner for Biblical Hebrew grammar and syntax. Although it may be intended to reduce a time for researching all Hebrew reference grammar and syntax, the its usefulness can be questioned. Firstly, it is not an exhaustive index. It covers only 14 references before 1996 including 7 English written references such as GKC (Gesenius' Hebrew Grammar 1910) and IBHS (Bruce K. Waltke and M.O'Connor. An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Syntax 1990),which excludes 'A Biblical Hebrew Reference Grammar by Merwe, Naude and Kroeze in 1999.' Secondly, it only has an index of Biblical passages, not an index of subject or Hebrew word which is useful in Biblical word studies and exegesis. Therefore this index may be for a first-year Hebrew grammar student but certainly not for a postgraduate student who need a serious comparative research training.
Book Description
The final volume (XXVI) of Princeton's Kierkegaard's Writings series, the Cumulative Index provides wide-ranging navigation to the preceding twenty-five volumes in the series. Composed of over 90,000 entries, the Cumulative Index offers access to Kierkegaard's complex authorship and the extraordinary range of subjects he addressed in his writing. Covering the series' historical introductions, primary works, supplementary material (journal entries), and footnotes, the Cumulative Index provides a comprehensive entryway to the series' more than 11,000 pages of text. Readers are able to survey via extended entries Kierkegaard's dual authorship(pseudonymous and signed), his frequent biblical references and allusions, his references to Christianity, God, and love, and his frequent use of analogies.
A cumulative collation of the extensive supplementary material (over 4,000 journal entries) is also included, giving researchers and avid readers the opportunity to correlate and examine items from the current series, Søren Kierkegaard's Journals and Papers, and the original Danish Søren Kierkegaards Papirer.

Book Description
The definitive treatment of the trees and tree-like plants of Sonora, a remarkably diverse and biologically important region, ranging from some of the driest and hottest areas in North America to cool, temperate woodlands and the northernmost tropical regions in the New World. The majority of the trees in this semi-arid region are at their northern limits in the Americas in this state and many range to South America. Thus, this book will be important to biologists in regions well outside of the area covered. Felger is the recognized expert in the area, and the book contains an enormous body of information nowhere else obtainable. The introductory chapter contains biotic and climatic information and an analysis of the geographical distributions of the trees of a state that is poorly known biologically. Two hundred eighty-five species of native and naturalized trees are covered, featuring extensive identification keys and illustrations, most of them newly produced for this book. The descriptive species accounts include common names, indigenous names, and synonyms, detailed botanical descriptions, ecological and geographic data, geographic ranges, natural history, economic uses, and, in many cases, other information such as horticultural uses and conservation status.
Customer Reviews:
A Definitive Book on Sonoran Trees.......2003-12-17
Sonoran tree communities range from coastal mangroves along the Gulf of California to pine forests atop the Sierra Madre on the continental divide, with thornscrub and tropical deciduous forest filling many of the gaps. While many genera familiar to gringo tree-watchers can be found in Sonora's 285 species-dendroflora -- such as pines, oaks, junipers, alders, ashes, cottonwoods and willows -- most are tropical Americans pressing on their northern boundaries. This new sylva, the first of the state of Sonora, documents the tree species of this enormous oft-overlooked region. And it does so with extraordinary grace and style, blending careful plant science with elegant botanical illustrations and photographs, and clear, accessible writing. For example, "The acorns are eaten fresh and are often consumed in local cantinas - the floors becoming littered with the empty shells" (Emory oak) and "No other Sonoran oak has leaves so densely velvety and fuzzy on both surfaces" (Chihuahua oak).
Among the ecological, historical, and descriptive information in the species narratives are the English, Spanish, and local Indian names of the taxa, as well as shrewd evaluations of the numerous nomenclatural and taxonomic issues that surround many of the species. As a writer of tree books who values reliable, original, and clear information on the dendroflora of botanical regions, I consider this book a rare find. Its authors have spent many years in fruitful field study of a rugged and undervalued region and have produced a volume of the highest quality. Their publisher has done a fine job of designing and manufacturing this attractive contribution to the Mexican flora.

an important resource for south-of-the-border birding.......2004-08-30
This is a fascinating set of papers describing the plants and animals of North America's northernmost tropical deciduous forest--Alamos is less than a day's drive from southern Arizona. Birders will find in Steve Russell's chapter with its useful tabular checklists perhaps the most valuable print resource available treating the avifauna of this site.
