Optical Properties of Photonic Crystals
Kazuaki Sakoda Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
Accessories: ASIN: 3540206825 |
Book Description
This is the first comprehensive textbook on the optical properties of photonic crystals. It deals not only with the properties of the radiation modes inside the crystals but also with their peculiar optical response to external fields. A general theory of linear and nonlinear optical response is developed in a clear and detailed fashion using the Green's function method. The symmetry of the eigenmodes is treated systematically using group theory to show how it affects the optical properties of photonic crystals. Important recent developments such as the enhancement of stimulated emission, second harmonic generation, quadrature-phase squeezing, and low-threshold lasing are also treated in detail and made understandable. Numerical methods are also emphasized. Thus this book provides both an introduction for graduate and undergraduate students and also key information for researchers in this field. The second edition features a new chapter on superfluorescence and updated text and references throughout.

Introduction to X-Ray Powder Diffractometry
Ron Jenkins , and Robert L. Snyder Manufacturer: Wiley-Interscience ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0471513393 |
Book Description
When bombarded with X-rays, solid materials produce distinct scattering patterns similar to fingerprints. X-ray powder diffraction is a technique used to fingerprint solid samples, which are then identified and cataloged for future use-much the way the FBI keeps fingerprints on file. The current database of some 70,000 material prints has been put to a broad range of uses, from the analysis of moon rocks to testing drugs for purity.Customer Reviews:
Excellent reference for theory and application........2000-10-28

ASIN: 0387241477 |
Book Description
Fundamentals of Powder Diffraction and Structural Characterization of Materials provides an in-depth introduction to the theories and applications of the powder diffraction method for structure determination. The emphasis is placed on powder diffraction data collected using conventional x-ray sources, which remain primary tools for thousands of researchers and students in their daily experimental work. The book is divided into two parts: chapters one though three give essential theoretical background, while chapters four through seven guide the reader through practical aspects of extracting structural information from powder data. The book is supplemented by a compact disk containing experimental data collected from a variety of materials that are used as examples and in the problems offered at the end of every chapter. In addition color electronic versions of some 300 illustrations found throughout the book will be included.

Cuban Revolution Reader: A Documentary History of 45 Key Moments in the Cuban Revolution
Manufacturer: Ocean Press (AU) ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 1920888896 |
Book Description
"Cuba has the same effect on US administrations as the full moon has on wolves: it's an obsession."-Wayne Smith, former US diplomat in Havana
The Cuban Revolution was one of the defining moments of the twentieth century, reaching far beyond the shores of the tiny Caribbean island.
From the euphoria of the early years of the revolution, to the devastating economic crisis that followed the collapse of the socialist bloc in the 1990s and beyond, the editor selects a broad range of material, providing a sweeping vision of revolutionary Cuba-its challenges, its defeats, its impact on the world. Covering forty-five decisive moments, such as the Bay of Pigs invasion and the October missile crisis, this new, expanded edition also features more recent events such as the demise of the Soviet Union, the visit of Pope John Paul II to Cuba, and the crisis over the child refugee Elián González.
The editor's introductory essay takes a critical look Cuba's decades-long relationship with the Soviet Union, and a new preface offers a frank, up-to-date assessment of Cuba's post-Castro prospects.
Drawing on primary sources, this book is an outstanding resource for scholars and all those interested in gaining an understanding of Cuba's remarkable experience over the last four and a half decades.
Julio García Luis is one of Cuba's most prominent writers and historians. Formerly president of the Cuban Journalists' Union, he is currently dean of the School of Social Communications at the University of Havana.
