Genomic Imprinting (Frontiers in Molecular Biology)
Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0199636265 |
Book Description
Genomic imprinting, the differential marking of genes inherited from paternal and maternal sources, has been recognized since the late 1970s and is known to be involved in several inherited diseases. However, it is only very recently that questions surrounding the mechanisms of genomic imprinting have begun to be answered. This volume reviews the latest exciting developments, with full citations of all of the key bibliography. It also discusses the major unanswered questions in this field and outlines directions for future research. Topics covered in Genomic Imprinting include: the role of DNA methylation in mammalian development; developmental regulation of imprinting by DNA methylation; imprinting at the mouse and human IGF2R loci; function and epigenetic modification of the imprinted H19 gene; the imprinted insulin-like growth factor 2 gene; consequences of genomic imprinting for fetal development; genomic imprinting in the mouse; systematic approaches for the identification of imprinted genes; genomic imprinting as a developmental process disturbed in cancer; imprinting in the PraderWilli/Angelman syndrome region on human chromosome 15; convergent themes in X chromosome inactivation and autosomal imprinting; and evolutionary theories of genomic imprinting.

Genomic Imprinting: An Interdisciplinary Approach (Results and Problems in Cell Differentiation)
Manufacturer: Springer-Verlag Telos ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 3540646671 |
Book Description
This book provides an unrivalled in-depth treatise of genomic imprinting, a phenomenon which plays a vital role in many biological processes in developmental biology, evolution and human diseases and genetics. The reason for this broad range of influence derives from the fact that genomic imprinting shields a number of important genes from the full effects of Mendelian inheritance. The importance of this surprising observation, which was discovered less than two decades ago, has been only slowly recognized. The reason for this may be that genomic imprinting is a difficult concept to understand. This book aims at providing interesting, entertaining and detailed information for any scientist, irrespective of their particular field of study.Customer Reviews:

Genomic Imprinting: Causes and Consequences
Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0521472431 |
Book Description
Genomic imprinting results in the preferential expression of one gene, depending on the parent of origin, and it is associated with several disease syndromes in humans. This book covers a wealth of research material on chromatin structure, epigenetics, clinical genetics, developmental biology, cancer, hypotheses of evolution, and the molecular basis of the imprinting process, which will help explain not only the mechanisms of genomic imprinting, but also its biological and medical consequences.

Genomic Imprinting: Methods and Protocols (Methods in Molecular Biology)
Manufacturer: Humana Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 089603741X |
Book Description
Andrew Ward and a team of experienced researchers have brought together a collection of optimized classic and vanguard techniques for the identification and analysis of imprinted genes. Protocols are included for identifying and cloning imprinted genes, for analyzing imprinted gene expression, for the study of DNA methylation and methylation-sensitive DNA-binding proteins, and for examining chromatin structure. There are also methods for the manipulation of mouse embryos to produce monoparental embryos and embryonic stem cells, and for the generation of transgenic mice with BAC, PAC,and YAC constructs. Each technique is described in step-by-step detail to ensure successful results.

Structural Analysis and Synthesis: A Laboratory Course in Structural Geology
Steve Rowland , Ernest Duebendorfer , Ilsa Schiefelbein , and Stephen M. Rowland Manufacturer: Blackwell Publishing Limited ProductGroup: Book Binding: Spiral-bound Similar Items:
ASIN: 1405116528 |
Book Description
This widely used, highly readable introduction to structural analysis is specifically designed to support the laboratory work of undergraduates in structural geology courses. Throughout the book, a geologic map from a mythical site, the Bree Creek Quadrangle, is used to help students analyze various aspects of the geologic structures exposed within this quadrangle, and ultimately to combine these analyzes into a grand synthesis.Guided by students ' and instructors ' suggestions, the authors have refined several exercises and added new ones for this third edition. In addition, every figure has been redrafted to improve clarity, and the Bree Creek Quadrangle map has been compiled onto a single fold-out sheet. An instructor 's manual is available on request from the publisher to assist the laboratory instructor in the use of the book.Customer Reviews:

Efficient Computation of Nonlinear Transient Structural Synthesis for Seismic Isolation
Manufacturer: Storming Media ProductGroup: Book Binding: Spiral-bound ASIN: 1423545028 |
Product Description
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A119263. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: A method of structural synthesis is presented using a recursive computational process. A structure can be modeled entirely linearly, with localized nonlinearities included as synthesized forces. The method allows retention of only the degrees of freedom (DOF) of interest, including, at a minimum, the DOF at which nonlinearities are applied. The method is illustrated using an n-degree of freedom finite element model of a simple structure. The method is shown to adjust the response of the system based on addition of a nonlinear base isolator. Finally, the method is compared to MATLAB's ODE45 function as a measure of accuracy and efficiency. The method is theoretically exact, and results in order of magnitude decreases in computational time for modification analysis.
