Customer Reviews:
The Definitive Book.......2006-01-19
The first edition of this book was published in 1995 and it was noted then that this was a field that was rapidly progressing. Progress has not slowed, and for the past several years the authors, now expanded to five, have been reviewing, re-writing where necessary, and expanding the book to nearly double it's original size with nearly double the number of illustrations.
As a textbook, this volume is suitable for the advanced undergraduate and graduate students. As a reference book, this volume is the most complete survey of the field to date. It is excellent in its historical approach that illustrates how the present state of knowledge was reached. This provides a background understanding that sometimes opens the door to other types of research that might be conducted. There is further a series of comments on the directions that current research is going. Each chapter is heavily referenced, with 10,000 references to back up the content of the book.
This is the definite book on the subject.
Wow.......2005-12-27
This book is absolutely the most comprehensive and well written book in this field. The pictures are astounding, and the layout is superb. The whole book is great but, the chapters written by G. C. Walker are particularly enlightening. Anyone with even a mild intrest in DNA Repair and or Mutagenesis should purchase this book with utmost haste.
The best!.......2000-03-10
The most complete book in the subjet Cover all aspects of DNA repair Rich in experimental details If you're interessted in DNA repair this book is the bible

Book Description
Understanding of the molecular basis of DNA damage and its repair has increased dramatically in recent years, and substantial knowledge now exists concerning the products arising from free-radical attack on DNA. Free-radical DNA damage may lead to mutations, cancer, and cell death. Free radicals have various sources, notably ionizing radiation and oxidative stress. In radiotherapy for cancer and with some anticancer drugs, use is made of cell death by excessive DNA damage. The mechanisms leading to products of free-radical attack which have been studied in models and with small double-stranded DNA fragments are discussed in detail, and the basics of the underlying free-radical chemistry are dealt with in separate chapters.

A medically proven program to prevent and reverse the DNA damage that causes aging
As we grow older, the genetic material in our bodies' 100 trillion cells gets damaged. The result is that the body becomes less and less able to repair itself and we start to notice visible signs of aging, such as age spots, sagging skin, and aching joints. Now, for the first time ever, a team of leading anti-aging experts shows how to reverse aging on a genetic level-while ramping up the body's self-repair capabilities. Based on 30 years of scientific research and 20 years of clinical practice, The Anti-Aging Solution delivers a simple five-step daily program that really works-including a step that's specifically designed to rejuvenate skin. By following this uniquely effective program, which includes stress reduction, dietary changes, exercise, skin treatments, and supplements (including a breakthrough herbal derivative), anyone can reverse DNA damage, enhance DNA repair-and start to look younger, feel younger, and be younger.
Vincent Giampapa, MD (Montclair, NJ), a leading anti-aging authority, is cofounder of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and founder and President of the Giampapa Institute for Anti-Aging Medical Therapy. He regularly appears on national TV and lectures internationally. Ronald Pero, PhD (Sandgate, VT), is Professor of Microbiology at Sweden's Lund University. He has also taught at Boston University and served as director of medical therapeutics at the Strang Medical Clinic in New York. Marcia Zimmerman, CN (Chico, CA), is a well-known nutrition author and consultant whose books include The ADD Nutrition Solution and Eat Your Colors.
Customer Reviews:
Great Intro book --- Great book if your first of second the topic.......2007-01-28
I've read a lot of books and material on these topics. This books seems right on and well written, and I would recommend it to anyone starting out. But, it didn't grab me -- probably more due to having read more than enough on these topics and my interests being elsewhere. Once again, great book for getting started on taking responsibility for your own health.
Just Another Book In This Genre.......2006-11-12
The book claims to help you:
1. Say goodbye to aching joints, sagging skin and fatigue
2. Improve the quality and function of the genetic material in your cells
3. Ramp up your body's self-repair functions
4. Increase your stamina, endurance and sex drive
5. Dramatically improve your resistance to disease, including cancers
6. Have more youthful, radiant skin
You don't need to be a cynic to be able to tell that the claims are all inflated. Sure, you'll see some improvement if you have been leading a very unhealthy lifestyle, but for those of us who are already exercising regularly and eating a relatively healthy diet, some of the tips on progressing further to "genetic repair" will sound a bit too good to be true.
In fact, most of the advice and recommendations given in the book are not very different from that found in many other books on nutrition and supplement. The authors just gave all the info a "DNA twist". I stopped reading the book a few chapters from the end when it begins to talk about hormonal supplementation and some glowing testimonial on the author's services. All "natural"? No side effects? How long have the subjects been followed up and how long have physicians really practised hormonal therapy on otherwise healthy individuals? The results may be real, but how safe is it for the rest of subject's life?
Sounds like another one of those practice-promoting books in this genre. Disappointing.
I DO LOOK BETTER AND FEEL YOUNGER ALREADY!.......2004-04-01
This book is the "real" deal. It offers a very simple plan for reversing the negative effects of aging. I especially like the information on nutrition and DNA repair. I've starting using the recommendations for supplementing my genes and already feel younger and like I have more energy. I'm in my late 30's and people think I'm in my late 20's. Buy this book! Read it and then read it again this information will change your life--it did and continues to change mine for the better.
The Anti-Ageing Solution.......2004-03-27
Finally---an anti-ageing book that really gets down to basics. The Anti-Ageing Solution explains what and why things are happening to us as we age. It is not just another "try this book" but a clear roadmap of the ageing process and how we can repair our own roads, as well as resources to to make the repairs. There are a lot of books out there on this subject and believe me I own quite a few. "5 simple steps" is what this book proclaims. I have put these five steps into play in my life and have simplified everything. My health has improved. An added bonus- my weight has dropped yet I no longer diet. It has allowed me to take a fresh look at "old age" and realize age is just a number. It is the quality of life that counts. At 58 I feel like a kid again. I am glad I had the good fortune to discover The Anti-Ageing Solution.

The Art of Molecular Dynamics Simulation
ASIN: 0470863323 |
Book Description
The subject of this book — intermolecular interactions — is as important in physics as in chemistry and molecular biology. Intermolecular interactions are responsible for the existence of liquids and solids in nature. They determine the physical and chemical properties of gases, liquids, and crystals, the stability of chemical complexes and biological compounds.
In the first two chapters of this book, the detailed qualitative description of different types of intermolecular forces at large, intermediate and short-range distances is presented. For the first time in the monographic literature, the temperature dependence of the dispersion forces is discussed, and it is shown that at finite temperatures the famous Casimir-Polder asymptotic formula is correct only at narrow distance range. The author has aimed to make the presentation understandable to a broad scope of readers without oversimplification. In Chapter 3, the methods of quantitative calculation of the intermolecular interactions are discussed and modern achievements are presented. This chapter should be helpful for scientists performing computer calculations of many-electron systems.
The last two chapters are devoted to the many-body effects and model potentials. More than 50 model potentials exploited for processing experimental data and computer simulation in different fields of physics, chemistry and molecular biology are represented. The widely used global optimisation methods: simulated annealing, diffusion equation method, basin-hopping algorithm, and genetic algorithm are described in detail.
Significant efforts have been made to present the book in a self-sufficient way for readers. All the necessary mathematical apparatus, including vector and tensor calculus and the elements of the group theory, as well as the main methods used for quantal calculation of many-electron systems are presented in the appendices.
