Should be [less money], Not [more money]!.......2002-10-21

Although I liked the outdated 1988 version of this book, this one is extremely simplistic and omits much of the previously included material. Most of the information included can be found on the web and is shallow compared to Current Protocols or other texts. Although it serves as a reasonable introduction for novices to this area it's extremely overpriced for [money]!!!

I would reccomend Monoclonal Antibodies by Goding ([money]),

This is an exceptional reference for anyone using abtibodies in the laboratory. It is a *must-have* for anyone venturing into unknown teritory. For the experienced individual forced to bang out new protocols with a cranky antibody, this reference is priceless.

Good manual, though needs revision........2007-06-28

This laboratory manual is very concise and easy to read. The topics range from antibody production to protein/enzyme conjugation, with step by step instructions and formulations. Previous to most topics is given a fairly thorough background. One drawback is the fact that this book is nearly 20 years old (pub. 1988) and lacks a significant amount of progress made in the areas of homo and heterobifunctional linkers, PEGylation, and antibody engineering. Given a good price however, this would be a good reference manual.

This classic is getting old...
But you cand find some important informations inside, classic protocols and keys-data to the antibodies-world.
A must-have reference for any today-biologist working with antibodies (immunostaining, immunoprecipitation, Western-blot, antibodies production, etc...).

An excellent summary of immunological methods........1998-01-16

This book is indespensible for those wishing to set up any type of antibody related methodology. Gives excellent overviews of immunodiagnostic methods (ELISA,RIA,etc.), antibody production (polyclonal and monoclonal), and includes basic summaries on the nature of the immune sytem in vivo. Especially useful to researchers developing immuno-techniques as it gives detailed methodologies.

Prion diseases, also known as Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs), exist in both humans (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD)) and animals (scrapie, bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), chronic wasting disease) and have the unique property of being infectious, sporadic or genetic in origin.

Although the precise nature of the infectious agent responsible for TSEs is not definitely identified, it is now clearly demonstrated that a protein named PrP (for Prion Protein) plays a critical role in the transmission and pathogenesis of TSEs.

This book provides the general description as well as the details of the techniques currently used for the study of prion diseases. Taking into account the pivotal role played by PrP it is not surprising that many Chapters of this book deal with the purification, the detection and the characterization of the different forms of this protein. In addition, in vitro, cellular and animal models specifically adapted to the study of TSEs, as well as bio-safety procedures are described. Each Chapter is written by scientists involved for many years in their respective domain of prion biology who give the best of their knowledge in this technical document. This volume is a very useful tool for any laboratory which recently decided to contribute to the study of TSEs as well as for teams already engaged in this field for many years but interested in extending their technical capacity toward new methods.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: When a Decision Maker is asked to provide his or her preferences, the response represents a snapshot in time. While their preference structure elicited at any given moment may represent their revealed preferences at that point in time, it may change over time. These changing preferences over time represent ambiguity in the decision maker's preferences. Other sources of ambiguity may exist. One weakness of many decision analysis techniques today is the inability to incorporate ambiguity into the basic decision model. The existence of the problem has been known and commented on for many years. This research addresses that problem. It begins with the basic approach and methodology developed by Ralph Keeney, Value-Focused Thinking (VFT). This methodology is then expanded to allow decision makers to specify not just constant weights to demonstrate their preferences, but an entire distribution. These distributions are then incorporated with the value of the attributes and the whole is simulated using Monte Carlo Simulation provided by Crystal Ball. The result of incorporating these weight distributions into the model, is an empirical distribution for the value of an alternative. The alternative distributions can be compared in a number of ways to provide insight to the decision maker.

Description:
NMR titration is an efficient method to determine pK"a values of multiprotic acids in aqueous solution. While modern 1D/2D NMR techniques yield chemical shifts with increasing precision, the glass electrode-based pH measurement becomes the limiting factor to affect the precision of the resulting dissociation constants. The pH in the NMR tube can also be deduced from the actual chemical shift of an appropriate monoprotic indicator molecule. In the present work, the in situ NMR pH measurement has been extended for the entire pH range 0-12 using indicators with overlapping ranges of dissociation. In the first, calibrating ^1H/^3^1P NMR titration, limiting chemical shifts and pK were determined for each indicator. An analysis of error propagation showed that the accuracy and precision of glass electrodes can be achieved at 1.8 < pH < 12 and even exceeded at pH extremes by NMR indicators, respectively. The assembled set of indicators was applied for in situ pH monitoring in the following ''electrodeless''^1H/^3^1P NMR titration of a newly synthesized aminophosphinophosphonic acid. Multivariate nonlinear parameter estimation was used to calculate the pK values that were confirmed by potentiometric titrations.
