Book Description
Hydrodynamics, Mass and Heat Transfer in Chemical Engineering contains a concise and systematic exposition of fundamental problems of hydrodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and physicochemical hydrodynamics, which constitute the theoretical basis of chemical engineering in science. Areas covered include: fluid flows; processes of chemical engineering; mass and heat transfer in plane channels, tubes and fluid films; problems of mass and heat transfer; the motion and mass exchange of power-law and viscoplastic fluids through tubes, channels, and films; and the basic concepts and properties of very specific technological media, namely foam systems. Topics are arranged in increasing order of difficulty, with each section beginning with a brief physical and mathematical statement of the problem considered, followed by final results, usually given for the desired variables in the form of final relationships and tables.
Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from Chemical Engineering Journal, published by Elsevier in 2005. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
An analogy between the flow patterns in real separation columns equipped with structured packing and film flow is used to develop a new modelling approach. The packing is represented as a bundle of channels with identical triangular cross section. The dimensions of the channels as well as their number are derived from the packing geometry. The channel inner surface is wetted by a liquid flowing downwards, whereas the rest of the volume is occupied by a countercurrent vapour flow. Both phases are assumed to be totally mixed at regular intervals, determined by the corrugation geometry of the packing. The mathematical model is based on a set of partial differential equations describing hydrodynamics and mass and heat transport phenomena. These equations are complemented by the conjugate boundary conditions at the phase interface. A numerical solution of the model yields velocity profiles as well as concentration and temperature fields throughout the column. The model is verified using experimental data for a binary distillation in a column equipped with Montz-Pak A3-500.

Customer Reviews:
Best book for Craft History.......2007-08-27
Aidan's book is most important for the history of Witchcraft. Its debunkers can be seen for what they are: ignorant and unable to cope with the real roots of their professed religion. The fact that they believe Gardner created/brought back "Wicca" instead of Witchcraft shows how little they understand the real Craft. Gardner did not write "Wicca Today." Crafting the Art of Magic is a scholarly work that anybody interested in Craft history should read.
Poor Scholarship.......2006-02-23
This book has more assumption than it does research that has been proven false. See Don Frew's Critical Review here:

Llewellyn! Please bring this back into print!.......2005-08-13
Llewellyn publishes something good in the early 90's an it never comes back, while tripe gets republished over and over.....
Anyway, "Crafting the Art of Magic" is a must for anyone interested in the history of Wicca. Okay, so we all know the usual story--Wicca is 50,000 years old, Wicca is from an unbroken line of English witches, Wicca is blah, blah. Kelly actually goes back to primary sources, picks them over and shows his work. It's not infallible, of course--he puts more faith in a few of his theories than proof--but it's an honest effort and a worthwhile read if you can snag a copy.
A pretty good history of the modern Craft revival.......2003-04-30
Kelly's book is a pretty well researched history of neo-pagan Gardnerian witchcraft. He documents and discusses Gerald Gardner's creation of Wicca in the 1950s. The contributions of several other people are also credited. The one drawback is that he blurs all his data to support his premise that Gardner (and friends) invented the Wicca as a whole new religion. Kelly hypothesizes that Gardner, Dorothy Clutterbuck, and some other friends formed their first coven in 1939 as a new creation. He insists that there was no prior witchcraft from which they drew workings, beliefs, morality or rituals. Every part of Gardnerian Wicca documents that do not appear to have come from an identifiable source he credits to Gardner himself. Overlooks the fact that there was a witch museum before Gardner took it over. The reader may be tempted to ask, if Gardner invented it all what was in the museum before Gardner? Kelly stretches logic to deny possible connections to prior magical or pagan sources. If you want a book on the development and progression of Gardnerian Wicca during the 1950s, this is a good source. If you're looking for hard evidence about Gardner's sources and prior connections this is probably not your book.
An unfortunate beginning to a history of Wicca.......2001-08-18
Kelly's work has perhaps one useful function; as a test of an ability to read critically. Further critique beyond that provided by Frew is probably unnecessary; his detailed examination of Kelly's errors in logic, the unnecessary anti-Catholic commentary and lack of familiarity with academic standards are clear and concise. These points added to the mysteriously-disappearing "Weschcke documents" that Kelly uses as his source material make this an inauspicious beginning to a textual examination of a new religious movement. Fortunately the work by Heselton and Hutton demonstrates that there is room to expand the inquiry into historical research.

A Cornucopia of Magical Fact and Fantasy and Bright Wit.......1997-09-27
Well, all right. I am somewhat biased. Three of my own works appear in this edition of the Almanac. Still, I believe it's a keeper. Silver RavenWolf, a major contributor, will keep you laughing while educating you. And who can live without moon phase data at their fingertips?
Customer Reviews:
Why review this in 2007?.......2007-09-01
Simple! These almanacs contain so much more information than just the moon/astrological infor for that year. It's packed full of articles for people of many Pagan traditions to enjoy. You also get a taste of many different Llewellyn authors so you can decide who you'd like to read and who you'd rather skip. I keep all of these, and know I always will!
i love these books.......2000-06-10
this book has different articles by popular authors and other people that practice magick. there are articles in here on the lbrp, how to consencrate a statue, pagan parenting, taking a sacred shower, joining a magickal lodge, dogs, bugs, etc. the middle part of the book is a calendar and the last part of the book is filled with advertisements. also be sure to check out the witches almanac
Good, but I was expecting more.......2000-05-10
Perhaps I expected a bit too much from this book. It was more magazine-like than anything else. Some of the stories/essays included were good, others were of absolutely no interest to me. If you want all the zodiac signs, planetary movement, etc.. then this is good for you. But you can also get that off the Llewellyn Witch's Calendar and get more enjoyment out of it.
"Real" enough....different but good every year!.......1999-11-06
"Reality" is what you make it! I always find good info and articles in here, some better than others naturally, or more "useful" I suppose...but fun to read and worth having nonetheless IMHO. I usually use my own correspondences and such for each day depending on my needs rather than the almanac ones, just my preferences, but I still buy it every year for the articles, crafts, recipes, stories and ideas contained therein. It's just fun to have around and pick up and read when you don't have a lot of time or want to get too deep, lots of stuff packed in there for the magickally-minded!
Not very "real" but fun to read.......1999-08-07
The text wasn't very much what I expected it to be, but it was alot of fun to look over and read- like a magazine. The covers on these books are very cool.
Customer Reviews:
Fluff, but Fun.......1998-10-30
Boy....it's hard to approach these books. Almost any Witch can tell you that these books really shouldn't be taken seriously, and that is true. So the best way to describe such fluffy bunny books is "amusement factor." Face it, Llewellyn sold out long ago and started putting these Fluffy bunny books out on the market to accomodate the young wannabes, but I will give it this: they are fun to read. They are certainly not helpful, but fun to read. Give it a try if you are looking for a book to read that doesn't take the subject seriously. If you are looking to learn Witchcraft, find a better book.
Fluff.......1998-06-03
Llewellyn's 1998 Magickal Almanac is full of fluff, just like all of their books and almanacs. The _only_ useful part of the book is the moon phase calendar (which one can easily get from a more respectable source, such as The Witches' Almanac). Everything else is boring editorials that slander everyone who doesn't follow the "Rede" (not in so many words of course). I can understand how it would appeal to White Light-ers and Pink Rainbow Wiccans and other such superficial no-nothings, but I see nothing of any use to the serious magician or witch.
a magical potpourri.......1998-04-08
Great collection of short readings. Some of the historical and geographical mentions were a bit hard to digest, but it was good to get the background information. Fantastic folklore, information on the moon, crafts. Definitely worth the purchase!
Blessed Be!
Better than the Witches Almanac.......1998-02-13
This is the best magical almanac out there. It is much simpler than the Witches Almanac. It gives the sabbats listings and moon phases.
A fun read and a good yearly magickal almanac........1997-09-23
I really like this yearly almanac, it is an entertaining and informative read with lots of different articles on all sorts of topics related to magick. It also has all the basics for each month, moon cycles, astrological signs, magickal holidays, and more. I personally like Llewellyn's almanac better than the Witches' almanac, due to it's user-friendly format
