New Frontiers in Bryology: Physiology, Molecular Biology and Functional Genomics
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1402019963 |
Book Description
The mosses (Bryophatea, Musci) are a diverse and widely distributed group of land plants. Mosses are attractive experimental plants because they exhibit the traditional attributes of good model systems (i.e. ease of growth and maintenance, fast generation time, and amenable genetics) with the added advantage of a haploid gametophyte that allowed developmental mutants to be recovered with relative ease. And, in one of the most exciting developments in Plant Biology, efficient homologous recombination occurs in the moss Physcomitrella patens. The ability to perform efficient homologous recombination (i.e. gene knock-outs) in P. patens is at present unique amongst all plants and represents an extremely powerful technique for the functional analysis of many plant genes. From evolution and development to the homologous recombination and the creation of novel molecular tools, mosses are being used to elucidate fundamental biological processes in plants. This book provides a synopsis of the outstanding basic research being conducted using mosses as a model multi-cellular eukaryote.

ASIN: 012182554X |
Book Description
Now in its third edition, this classic text covers many aspects of infrared and Raman spectroscopy that are critical to the chemist doing structural or compositional analysis. This work includes practical and theoretical approaches to spectral interpretation as well as a discussion of experimental techniques. Emphasis is given to group frequencies, which are studied in detailed discussions, extensive tables, and over 600 carefully chosen and interpreted spectral examples. Also featured is a unique treatment of group frequencies that stresses their mechanical origin. This qualitative approach to vibrational analysis helps to simplify spectral interpretation.

ASIN: 1405109149 |
Book Description
Introduction to Solid State NMR Spectroscopy is written for undergraduate and graduate students of chemistry, studying courses in nuclear magnetic resonance or undertaking research projects in this area. It will also serve as a useful introduction in industry, where researchers are turning to solid-state techniques to solve problems that are not amenable to other investigative techniques.By covering solid-state NMR spectroscopy in a clear, straightforward and approachable way with detailed descriptions of the major solid-state NMR experiments focussing on what the experiments do and what they tell the researcher, this book will serve as an ideal introduction to the subject. These descriptions are backed up by separate mathematical explanations for those who wish to gain a more sophisticated quantitative understanding of the phenomena. With additional coverage of the practical implementation of solid-state NMR experiments integrated into the discussion, this book will be essential reading for all those using, or about to use, solid-state NMR spectroscopy.Customer Reviews:

Introduction to NMR Spectroscopy
R. J. Abraham , J. Fisher , and P. Loftus Manufacturer: Wiley ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0471918946 |
Book Description
Introduction to NMR Spectroscopy R. J. Abraham, School of Chemistry, University of Liverpool J. Fisher, Biological NMR Centre, University of Leicester P. Loftus, Stuart Pharmaceuticals, Delaware, USA This book is a new, extended edition of Proton and Carbon 13 NMR by R. J. Abraham and P. Loftus. The initial chapters cover the fundamentals of NMR spectroscopy commencing with an explanation of how the nuclear magnetic response occurs, followed by a detailed discussion of chemical shifts and coupling constants, parameters not discussed to any length in other textbooks aimed at a similar level of interest. Emphasis is given to the vectorial description of multipulse experiments, as this is probably the easiest way to grasp how different information may be gained simply by changing a pulse sequence. An understanding of multipulse NMR is a prerequisite for understanding 2D NMR. The section on 2D NMR begins with a discussion of the resolved experiment. This is a logical initial choice as the spectra produced by this experiment may be readily compared with 1D spectra. Following on from this both heteronuclear and homonuclear correlation spectroscopy are described and examples given. The final section of the book should be considered as an applications section. It is aimed at showing the reader that NMR is not just of use to the synthetic organic chemist but is also of use to biochemists for investigating the solution state structure and function of proteins, enzymes, etc. The application of high resolution NMR to the solid state is also discussed, thereby indicating the developments which have taken place as far as spectrometer hardware is concerned.
