An Essential book for clinical chemists and MT's!.......2006-12-20

The information contained in this book is highly extensive and plenty in depth, which is amazing considering that this is the "concise" adaptation of the longer Tietz Textbook. All working MTs would find this to be an excellent reference text. Although the language in this book is quite understandable, I don't see this as being "catered" towards students as a textbook given the depth of information, but more as a reference for working MTs/CLS's and lab staff. My recommendation for students would be "Clinical Chemistry" by Bishop, which gives plenty enough information to pass the registry exams.

A Must Have for MT student.......2006-07-12

This book is the Golden standard for Clinical Chemistry. I can tell you most of your laboratory procedures have at least some part derived from this book. Not to mention all the product insert for most of your clinical chem. I agree that this book will be quite overwhleming to first time reader during their training; but this is a indespensible book you need if you want to specialize in the Clinical Chemistry area. And obviously you find this book so precious that you won't sell it :)

One of the best.......2004-07-03

This is definitively one of the best Clinical Chemistry books I know. At work I routinely need to consult information and this makes a great reference book to search for in depth explanations. Now, I don't feel this would be good for a student, I feel this book is a little dense and treats some issues in such a way that might be a little intricate for the first contact with them. I believe you need some practical work experience to really take all the juice out of it, though I don't mean I'm not recommending it to students. This is a great book to anyone, the only thing is I don't concieve it as a texbook (for this I'll better recommend Kaplan & Pesce "Clinical Chemistry", which is an easier reading while not compromising much depth).

Great Intro to IR.......2005-11-16

The author perfectly achieved her goal for this book: to provide a concise introduction to infrared spectroscopy. It is certainly not a comprehensive treatment, but it will allow the reader to understand and use IR in the shortest possible amount of time.

After a brief (but necessary) discussion of the quantum mechanics and instrumentation of this field, interpretation of IR spectra is presented for basic organic, inorganic, and polymeric compounds. The exposition is very clear and the author presents some intermediate concepts in a very simple manner. Also included are interesting biological and industrial applications, although I did not read these chapters in detail.

The book is pedagogic, well organized, and contains enough answered problems to be used for self-study by undergraduates at any level.

Great book for student MT's.......2006-12-08

The explanations of test method principles and disease processes in this book are straight to the point and in a language that is usually understandable on the first read. The images are decent although the format of where the images are located is a little strange with some being in the chapters and others in the back. The only major thing I do not like about this book is the almost tissue thin paper which can be very highlighter unfriendly in many cases.

Even though it has been many years since we had decent books, this one is exceptional both with urines and other body fluids.
My manager wants to use it for other clinics. I am a cytotechnolist and medical technologist and the photos and
descriptions are great. We are going to use this here at work, even though I personally own the book.

Probably the most cited textbook in atmospheric chemistry, despite its "age". If you want to learn anything about atmospheric chemistry, this is the book you need. I can't understand why its out of print....I just special ordered it!
