5 out of 5 stars If you have an interview buy this book.......2005-07-31

If you have an interview or are looking to get into the industry, buy this book. Great info on the the F2F questions and good information all around. While I do believe there are some things in this book that should be intuitive, many college grads and younger people I talk to that want to get into the industry don't know half of them. Five years ago I purchased this book to assist me and it was some of the best money I ever spent.

5 out of 5 stars Straight forward and honest.......2003-10-22

I found this book very helpful! I am a recent college grad and the creative networking techniques helped me to get several interviews in pharmaceutical sales. And to the reviewer from Colorado - get over yourself! There are several people that do make simple mistakes in the interview process and this book just points them out to help everyone. For someone like me with no experience in the industry, I found this book to be incredibly helpful and covered all of the bases. I have recommended it to several friends looking for jobs.

1 out of 5 stars Insulting and Worthless.......2003-09-08

A pharmaceutical representative recommended this book to me as I'm pursuing a job in this industry. The author indicates that she worked first as a representative and later as a recruiter. Her writing maintains the condescending attitude so prevalant among the people that work for these companies. Ms. Kerzic actually suggests that I should buy a good pair of shoes and a nice suit to interview in. Is she kidding? In my industry you either wear the best suit and shoes that you can afford or you'll quickly be out of a job. Does she honestly believe a reader would show up wearing shorts and a tanktop? Other useful tidbits include phrases like, "don't waste my time". Sorry Ms. Kerzic, but if I decide to show up for an interview, apply for a job, or send you a resume', it is OUR time. Mine is just as important as yours. She throws in a few hints on resume' building, but I've found much better formats that have resulted in interviews by consulting my local library. On the other hand, I will utilize some of her advice in writing my review of her book. If you're considering buying this book, don't waste your time OR your money!

1 out of 5 stars Nothing really new........2003-06-29

I bought this book in hopes to getting real inside information. All of this information could easily be obtained at any library. Also, there was really not a lot of actual information in the book. The font was so large, that it could have been written in about 35 pages. The rest of the book had addresses to pharmaceutical companies. What a rip off.

To top it all off she tries to sell you more literature and services she should have included in this book.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.......2003-04-24

The information contained in this book can be found in any job search book- her claim to "insiders knowledge" is basic and could be devined from anyone in the industry.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding for the wanna-be, the new-bie, and the veteran!.......2003-12-15

Most books on this topic drone on about the perks of the business. While it's true, it often sugar-coats the fact that this job is a demanding one, and isn't really a cake-walk.

This is one of the few books that reviews the "downside" as well as what's great about being a drug rep. Having been in the industry for more than 11 years, I've heard a lot of recruiters try to tell people what it's like to be a rep. The problem is, the recruiter has never been a pharmaceutical sales rep, so it's hard for them to give coaching and advice to someone who wants to break into the industry.

Besides that, recruiters are not used as often as they were before due to cost constraints. As Currier points out, networking can be a key element in a job search.

This book reviews what to consider when making the decision to be a drug rep. It also does an excellent job of outlining what to do when you're first hired into a company -- from trunk organization to the "no-see" physician; from the hospital display to the pharmacy call -- it's all here.

If you don't read this book, you're missing out on a lot of outstanding information.

4 out of 5 stars Good But Could Be Better.......2003-12-09

Easy reading and informative. However it seems to be better geared to those who have just entered the industry. There are better sources for those looking to crack the competitive field of Pharmaceutical Sales.

5 out of 5 stars Informative, and Delightful Read.......2003-01-18

The Author's style is a little like "What They Don't Teach You at Harvard Business School" By Mark H. McCormick and it is superbly layed out carefully just for Pharmaceutical Sales.

This text is an excellent easy read (read it in one day); in one word I describe it as a 'pleasant read'; not too involved but just enough; in other words this a well written and carefully balanced book IMHO.

I particulary enjoyed the explanation of industry buzzwords and acronyms. Mostly, I like how the author ties in the whole process of where the territory sales rep 'fits' into the Pharmacutical-MCO-PBM areas as a whole; this really puts everything in great perspective. I think its called "synergistic approach".

In addition, this work helped me appreciate all the hardwork that goes into becoming a pharm rep. It describes things as a process and what the positives/negatives are. It essentially takes you through a "day-in-the-life" so to speak of what its like to be a pharm rep.

This sucker should be in every college career center library for sure. If you are interested or even thinking about wanting to know what it is that Pharm reps do (and to see if you might have what it takes) then this book is for you.

;-)

5 out of 5 stars Gain knowledge about the day-to-day job itself.......2002-12-13

This book gives you insight into the day-to-day challenges, obstacles and joys of being a pharm sales rep. I strongly encourage anyone considering this field as an occupation to read this book before beginning their interview process. Many of the things I learned from this book I was able to refer to during my job interview with a Fortune 25 company. It helped me land this job very quickly because I was aware of the day-to-day aspects of being successful as a Pharm Sales Rep.

5 out of 5 stars Be Brief. Be Bright. Be the best with this Book!.......2002-01-17

Over the past 20 years, I have had experience with the pharmaceutical industry as an employee, customer, and vendor. Of all the books out there, this book provides the best overview on a pharmaceutical sales career for someone considering this profession. This includes college students interested in pharmaceutical sales, anyone considering a career change, and job applicants or newly hired representatives.

The book is clearly written and fast-paced and does a great job of capturing the ups and downs of pharmaceutical selling, how to get a job, and the everyday tasks of the rep. It has some good suggestions for how to generate sales, including a Top Ten Tips list in the last chapter. I also liked the attention to the customer's (doctor's) wants and needs, as this is really
what selling is all about.

    Book Description

The spectacular collision of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with Jupiter in July 1994 was a unique event in the history of astronomy. With a year's advance warning, astronomers and planetary scientists around the world were able to coordinate an observing campaign to track the event in unprecedented detail. A year after the event, a workshop at the Space Telescope Science Institute provided the first opportunity for them to bring together their observations and foster a new understanding of the impact. In this book, the editors present fifteen invited reviews from authors selected as international leaders in the study of the impact and its aftermath. They have edited and arranged the chapters to provide a thorough and comprehensive overview of our knowledge of the event. While our understanding of the impact will evolve with future work, this book provides a solid foundation for new insights.

    Book Description

There is something terribly wrong in the solar system, and it is about to take its toll on humanity.

In the twenty-first century, an unthinkable chain reaction has manifested itself in an apocalyptic nightmare for the inhabitants of the Earth. Who would have thought it could have been born out of a seemingly innocuous comet, Shoemaker- Levi 9, which slammed into Jupiter in 1994?

Astrophysicist Levon Halston is called to a meeting of internationally renowned scientists to discuss the possible consequences of Jupiter's orbital deviation. Within months, his dire predictions are dwarfed, as the barely perceptible orbital deviation escalates into rapidly occurring celestial upheavals. Earth is captured in the gravitational field of another planet, sending the entire world into chaos, with meteors, earthquakes, firestorms, and unusual weather disturbances. And to make the devastation complete, a rogue country launches a nuclear attack upon the other nations of the world, while the U.S. is crippled and unable to organize a counterstrike.

Levon is plunged into an anxiety-ridden quest across the United States to find his 12-year-old daughter. Along the way, he converges with Michelle and Jordan, who are fleeing California's destruction. Together, they go through the furious struggles of a horrifying reality, at the same time trying to define their own utopia.

The Bible's mysterious book of Revelation unfolds as author Douglas J Edgel weaves a bone-chilling account of the last days of the world. This riveting, complex tale excites and unforgettably engages the reader's imagination.

A novel that feels so real, it just might be . . . some day.

5 out of 5 stars I couldn't put the book down! An excellent read..........1998-06-30

This great book grabbed me within the first few pages, and didn't let go till I finished the last page. Actually, it still has me thinking about it. If you enjoy books like Steven Kings "The Stand", or others such as "Earth Abides", "Andromeda Strain", and those which venture into the arena of humanity facing extinction, you'll enjoy this book.

Intriguing plot aside, it is well written; The dialog between the characters, transitions between scenes, and the story line.

I chose this book for it's science fiction content and worried that the religious aspect might be a bit more pervasive than I would care for. But it all came together in a very exciting and thought provoking manner.

Hmmmm... I think I'll go read it again.

4 out of 5 stars the read is like watching a movie ........1998-06-28

The reader is taken for a roller coaster ride across the country as the earth's end seems in sight. This is a wonderful book which will open the readers mind to the frail ,and false sense of securty that we have on this planet. I could not put this book down.

4 out of 5 stars A Smashing Story That Will Leave A Big Impact On You.......2004-06-05

In July 1994, a once-in-a-lifetime event occurred: a planetary impact in our solar system. Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 headed straight for the comet and asteroid magnet known as Jupiter, our largest planet. Without Jupiter to act as a giant cue ball for incoming debris, it's unlikely that we would be here on planet Earth today, as there would be far more dangerous Earth impacts affecting life on our planet beyond the normal once-every-23 million years global wipeouts that have been occurring since life sprung up on our blue planet.

David Levy's book is a personal odyssey of how he and the Shoemaker's (Carolyn and Gene, the latter deceased as of 1998) happened to discover the impact of SL-9 in 1995. It was the first of 3 consecutive comet shows during the 1990's, with Comet Hyukatuke in 1996 and Comet Hale-Bopp in 1997 helping to revitalize astronomy and comet interest after the disappointing return of much-expected Halley's Comet in 1986.

The book does a good job of letting you experience the thrills that Levy and others went through during their confirming that the comet would hit Jupiter and the buildup to the expected collision dates. The diaries of the media frenzy are particularly illuminating. The one area where the book falls short is not having enough color photos of the impacts themselves. Published in 1995, "Impact Jupiter" should have had access to enough color photos, especially from the Hubble Space Telescope. There are some decent black-and-white shots, some interesting drawings and sketchings, but more color photos from the HST or other telescopes should have been included. Needless to say, there are a ton of such shots now available on the internet or in some quality astronomy and Hubble Telescope books.

All in all, an enjoyable and in-depth read on an event that had a long buildup and then was over in the course of a few days. Perhaps if we are lucky we will get another chance to witness a planetary impact in our solar system -- and hopefully, NOT on planet Earth!
