Customer Reviews:
Starting & Running Your Own Horse Business.......2007-05-12
This book is a great guide for management on a cost-effective basis. Excellent! Great for the beginner to understand and very informative.
I bought it for my daughter and she could understand what running a horse business would entail. A great way to learn for a youngster that has no idea of what they are saying when they say they want to run their own business. All aspects of a business are looked at in a basic way.Starting & Running Your Own Horse Business
.......Horse Business.......2007-02-20
I found this book to be very helpful in planning my stable for public use. It has given me good ideas on planning, marketing and various programs to consider. It's also given me a good start on planning my budget for this project. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to move past the horse boarding only business.
Although it's a wonderful and helpful book..........2006-05-29
It should really have more important information, such as a summery of costs, tips on picking the perfect horse fo lessons, hiring staff, stuff that you REALLY need to know about starting your own business. Other then that, it's really a great and imformative book.
Great Book.......2005-08-22
The book covered a good range of topics. I found several new ideas well worth using in starting our business. The book was definately well worth buying!
A great read!.......2005-08-04
I found this book to be an extremely fun read. I firmly believe that the foundation to any successful business is marketing because if people don't know your business then you have no clients. This book gives some creative ideas to advertise your business along with some fun money-maker activities to plan. However, it is not a very complete guide to starting and running a horse business because there is a lot more to think about when starting a business than colors and horse shows. This is why I find the title to be a bit misleading. I bought this book along with "Business Planner and Bookkeeper for the Horse Enterprise" and found the two books to be an extremely helpful pair. As with any business though, one or two books can not teach you how to be successful. To anyone who is serious about starting a business, I recommend reading as many books as possible about running a business, not just this one.

Great book
No color pictures.......2006-12-08
I just received this book. I find it quite outdated. The drawings and illustrations are poorly done. There are only a few black and white pictures. Just beware that this is a 1998 book and I am sure you can find a more updated horse book than this one.
Absolute must for new horse-lovers!.......2006-10-05
If you're considering doing ANYTHING with a horse in it, get this book. It's by far the most complete book on basic horse health, stabling, activities, breeds, etc. (And I do mean "basic".) Would have been five-stars for a glossary.
Horsey Lovers.......2006-07-22
My daughter wants us to buy her a horse. We didn't have a clue what to look for and this horse catalog gave us a thorough preview. We didn't fathom the expenses or the responsibilities of caring for a horse. An encyclopedic eyeopener that prepared us for reality.

Great Photos and Advice.......2006-02-26
I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to set up and organize proper, clean, safe and efficient care for horses. The pictures are great, and make it a lot easier for the beginner to visually see what works. It's an excellent resource!
Succinct, Simple, Great Photos.......2006-02-17
This is an easy read. A Picture is worth a thousand words and there are a lot of photo examples. A great resource.
Health horses.......2005-09-21
I have 1 indoor arena, 1 covered arena, and can stall up to 100 horses. Cherry Hill writes in an easy to understand and very articulate manner information that anyone owning from one to One Hundred horses should read.
She has a keen and very healthy insight with a common sense approach to horses. I was lucky enough to meet her at "Road To The Horse" where she was one of the prestigious judges, and very impressed with her down to earth and friendly attitude. She has a true passion for horses and what is in their best interest.
I have at least 6 of her books and plan on purchasing the rest as time & money allow. You will get your moneys worth from her.

This is a good beginners guide or a good refresher course. Don't look for a lot past the basics, though.
Product Description
A comprehensive guide to the care and management of horses and ponies, filled with reliable information and advice on modern stable management practices.
Customer Reviews:
Not for Beginners But Good for Reference.......2006-06-23
**The following is from the back of the book, I DID NOT write it**
This book is an updated, omnibus edition, bringing together the sevel titles which previously formed The British Horse Society Manual of Stable Management. (The Horse, Care of the Horse, The Horse at Grass, saddlery, specialist Care of the Competition Horse, The Stable Yard, Watering and Feeding).
Essential reading for students taking the British Horse Society examinations - invaluable to amateurs and professionals alike
Compiled by a panel of experts, this book offers career students and horse owners a comprehensive guide to the care and management of horses and ponies.
Previously published as a series of seven books, the new BHS Complete Manual of Stable Management brings together all seven volumes, conveniently providing a single source of reference. This all-in-one volume has been fully revised and updated to bring it into line with current thinking in the horse world.
Filled with reliable information and advice on modern stable management practices, the book provides a sound foundation for Horse Knowledge and Care Stages 1 to 4 and the BHS Stable Manager's Certificate.
Throughout, the emphasis is on the adoption of correct and safe procedures for the welfare of all who come into contact with horses, as well as for the animals themselves.
*******
My Review: I think that this book has a lot of very good information, certainly the most comprehensive guide on the market that I have found on all things "horse care." I do not believe that a beginner or person lacking a good amount of horse world experience would have the best of luck with it though.
This hefty book had excellent text but not enough pictures to illustrate its procedures and advice. As an example, the adjustment of a bridle and use of different bits. A person with experience can read the text and understand what the book is talking about but I honestly think that a beginner would have been completely lost. The book mentions different bits but does not have them illustrated - which I consider essential for them to be able to differentiate in the descriptions.
Needless to restate, it is not a waste of money. This book is cutting-edge in British horse care and does cover much of the dismounted material that is seen in the BHS Horsemastership (Stages) examinations. I can easily picture an experienced horseperson keeping this as a reference and often using it. I also think it would be a good addition to a public library because of the sheer volume of material it contains.
For beginners I would recommend starting with books by Cherry Hill such as her "Horse Handling & Grooming" or "Horse Health Care" books.

Okay let's get going. This is THE best horse non-fiction book you could stumble across! I don't own it (although I'm hoping I'll get it for Christmas!) but I borrow it from my library nearly every time it's there! If you're looking for a horse information book, spend your cash on this. It's a great books covering loads of different topics, from mucking out to showing a horse or pony. Since it's in manageable chapters, if you're having trouble with one particular thing, you'll find an answer fast in this book!

Book Description
Finding the right boarding stable is a challenge faced by most riders at some stage in their careers. For novice horse owners, or longtime horse people new to the world of boarding stables, knowing what to look for is not as simple as it seems. A Barn Fit for King guides readers through the process in 80 information packed pages. Written in an easy-to-read style, it helps horse owners first decide what kind of boarding arrangement would be best for them and their horses, and then assess stables to find the most suitable facility. It helps the reader check out the barn, riding facilities, and horse-care routines. It also guides the reader to think about other less obvious aspects of a boarding situation which nonetheless can seriously affect the quality of the boarding experience.
