The stories in this book are true, and were first published in Legal Tilt Magazine (LegalTilt.com). Legal Tilt provides an inside view of the legal mind, debunking the myth of the greedy ambulance chaser and replacing it with the more bizarre and fascinating reality.
Customer Reviews:
Best book on law school and the early years of practice.......2004-10-19
This book is what "One L" should have been, an honest look at what law school and early practice are all about. The brutal honesty in each story reveals what few lawyers would admit, that behind the professional veneer there is a much grittier reality. Stories about difficult or insane clients, unreasonable bosses, ego clashes and the constant stress get at a side of lawyering that is rarely dealt with openly. Yet the book is not depressing, just honest. An eye opener for anyone interested in the legal profession.
Great, beautiful, deep and rewarding book.......2001-01-10
Few writers capture reality so well and create from it a literature of this rare vibrance. If you like Hemingway, Bukowski, Pekar, or any of the new breed of auto-biographical writers, you will love this book. This should also be a must read for law students so they know what they are getting themselves into. This book pulls away the curtain of professional secrecy and gives a rare and honest glimpse of the lawyer's life. Sex, drugs, rock n roll, plus lots of anxiety, angst, fear, greed, and frustration. It's all here. To cap things off the book even has madlibs. What more could you ask for. I give this book my highest rating.
Book Description
Long regarded as the leading book in the field, this volume provides a basic introduction to the biological, chemical, and physical properties affecting soil fertility and plant nutrition. It covers all aspects of nutrient management for profitable crop production, with particular attention to minimizing the environmental impact of soil and fertilizer management. The Sixth Edition has been substantially revised to reflect rapidly advancing knowledge and technologies in both plant nutrition and nutrient management.
Customer Reviews:
This edition has been dumbed down........2007-04-27
This edition is not as advanced or complete as earlier versions. If you did want to explore a the subject more completely you are at a disadvantage with this version, the references to the original work that were at the end of each chapter in previous versions have been removed.
screening of salt tolerant and drought resistant plants.......2000-04-23
This research aimed to screening of salt and drought resistant plant in saudi arabia to evaluate the effect of water of differant salinities and drought (irrigation intervals)on plant growth and performance in a sandy soil
Book Description
In this book, eco-agriculture is explained from the tiniest molecular building blocks to managing the soil in terminology that not only makes the subject easy to learn, but vibrantly alive. Eco-Farm truly delivers a complete education in soils, crops, and weed and insect control.
Chapters provide detailed discussions of trace elements, tillage, the N,P&K concept, animal health, crops, soil carbon and calcium, insects, soil life, crop rotation, and much more.
This should be the first book read by everyone beginning in eco-agriculture . . . and the most shop-worn book on the shelf of the most experienced.
Customer Reviews:
Sense not nonsense.......2007-07-23
I left college full of scientific knowledge and spent thirty years amending that with experience. Though I cannot subscribe to Steiner's Bio-dynamics I do follow sustainable farming techniques - those thirty years have taught me something. In this primer, that has been distilled and laid out clearly and without preaching as many "eco" texts do.
An excellent essay on conservative farming, blending the agro-science with eco-science.
Eco-Farm.......2006-08-09
If only every person that ever eats food read this book as a set work at school, the level of intelligence across the literate world would double. No longer would advertising companies have such a gullible audience. No longer would the medical and medical insurance industry have such a ready customer base.
And most of all, the customer of the farmer/producer would not tolerate the practices in industrial agriculture, and in turn, small farmers would not be trying to ape their "big brothers"
Rough but Ready.......2006-06-05
I agree with the previous reviewer - that Charles Walters is a bit condescending, but we allow this to genius in any other discipline. The book is billed as "the definitive guide to managing farm and ranch soil fertility etc..." But this book is not a technician's handbook about farming, it is a primer for a massive paradigm shift in the way we look at the entire eco-sphere, about our estrangement from the soil from which we derive our "permission for life" - and about a milieu of degenerative disease which necessarily flows from such a tragic estrangement.
Part of Walter's arrogance is really just conviction. It is the utter conviction of a Socrates or a Copernicus or an Einstein, who will brook no humility about truth. A sociopath does not a prophet make, but a true prophet will always be marginalized as one by the sociological institution from which he speaks. And this is because institutional science, "tries to harmonize the latest discoveries with the incongruities of its false position."
Paradigm shift is not fun. It is adventurous, but painful. No one looks for the painful adventure until the pain of institutional inertia becomes unbearable. Walters himself proposes a paradigm shift of such massive proportions that it quite exceeds his own modest proposals. Unless our agronomy exceeds the righteousness of the "environmental movement" we will never see symbiosis in our generation.
The best source on caring for the soil I have ever read!.......1997-07-18
Even though the beginning of the book has a slightly arrogant writing style, it is the best book on sustainable agriculture I have ever read. It is filled with the science behind the claims that, although complex, is easy to understand. It will make converts of even the most chemically dependent gardener or farmer if they have an open mind going in. It truely is THE organic primer Bible

Book Description
Soil Fertility Evaluation and Control presents the theoretical background for practical applications of scientific work on soil fertility. The book emphasizes the use of response curves as the basic biological standard for both evaluation and control, and it discusses soil testing and plant analysis as secondary standards. The principal applications covered include fertilizer requirements, fertilizer evaluation, residual effects, fertilizer placement, liming, and economics of fertilization. Environmental aspects of plant nutrients and soil nutrient supplies as they pertain to crop production are also addressed. Most of the information in Soil Fertility Evaluation and Control is drawn from world literature, which makes it a valuable reference for soil scientists, agronomists, agriculturalists, foresters, and others interested in the evaluation and control of soil fertility.
Customer Reviews:
Different focus on soil fertility!.......2000-02-05
In my opinion, this book is an outstanding work on Soil Fertility because of its extensive revision on the pertinent literature. The professor C. A. Black came out with a brilliant book wich covers this issue in completely different way. This book is indispensable to researchers in soil fertility and plant nutrition.

Book Description
This book was the first work to attack Von Liebig's salt fertilizer thesis, and it stands as valid today as when first written over 100 years ago. Translated from the German writings of Julius Hensel, the book was designed to introduce the people of the U.S. to the idea that plants require healthy food in order to flourish, just as a human being does. It describes a then new and rational system for fertilization which has become science today fetilizing with stone dust. Hensel went searching for food for plants and found it in the primeval rocks. Fed on such foods, plants will yield healthy, wholesome and life sustaining food that escapes disease and parasites.

Book Description
Soils are one of the world's most important resources, and their protection, maintenance, and improvement is critical to the continuance of life on earth. Soil Fertility, Second Edition, offers thorough coverage of the fertility, composition, properties, and management of soils. This book carries on the tradition of excellence established by authors Henry Foth and Boyd Ellis, leading soil scientists whose previous books in this field have become multi-edition classics. The Second Edition of Soil Fertility has been significantly expanded to include more information on mineralogy, while keeping the thorough coverage of essential topics. The book presents soils as dynamic, constantly changing bodies, and relates soil fertility and management to the mineralogy of their origin. Four new chapters offer updated information on soil charge properties, ion adsorption, exchange and fixation, and soil reaction. There is also a far greater emphasis on environmental issues, reflecting the increasing importance of environmental concerns to agronomists and soil scientists today.

Customer Reviews:
This informative book is about soils and fertilization.......1998-08-04
Many people are interested in dirt. People who clean cars are interested in dirt. The nice people at Proctor & Gamble are very intereted in dirt. But perhaps the most interested of all are farmers who spend much of their time thinking about dirt, putting things in dirt and taking things out of the dirt. Sometimes they don't take enough things out of the dirt or the wrong things grow in the dirt, so they have to add more stuff to the dirt to make it more productive. This is often fertilizer except in Arkansas where they use tobacco juice. In less robust economies (read, those not served by Archer Daniels) fertilizer is often based on human or animal wastes. In those societies this cyclical cycle is called survival. Here in the United States of America it is called Organic Farming and one should expect to pay a pretty price for it. As a matter of fact, the other day, I was in the Wild Oats Market near where I live and they were charging this gosh-awful price f! or something called organic bananas. Now, I like organic foods as much as the next guy, but let's face it, paying over $1 per pound for organic bananas is nuts. (Hmmm. I didn't even really mix my metaphor). Back in 1967 when I was working as a porter at the old A&P warehouse, we had to unload freight cars of bananas and put them into a special room to ripen them. And we couldn't care less back then if it was organic or not. A banana was a banana and aside from those we would swipe when we were hungry, our greatest concern was not getting bitten by a spider or one of those gigantic roaches that would stowaway on the banana boats. As long as the banana is not too mushy and someone doesn't try to fool me by substituting a plantain, I don't really care what they put around the roots. But I digress.
Tisdale's book is considered the definitive treatise on Soils and Fertilization. It is the standard text at really fine Aggie schools in this great land of ours and if you ! are really in to gardening, farming or just want to know mo! re about fertilizer than anyone else in your social set or in your chapter of Future Farmers of America, or 4-H. (Do you know that there are many active chapters of 4-H in New York City and its environs?) So, help rocket Tisdale's fifth edition out of its doldrums as the 125,000th most sought after title at Amazon.com. He is a lot more informative than Tom Clancy or Tony Robbins and he writes better too. Buy buying this and giving it to your friends as a Christmas gift it may move it up to become the 90,000th most popular title at AmazonDotCom (who came up with that clunky name, Borzos? Couldn't you name it after your mother, or maybe come up with something poetic like ArchonsOfColophon.com?)
