Book Description

Book Description
Most books covering the use of computer models in agricultural management systems target only one or two types of models. There are few texts available that cover the subject of systems modeling comprehensively and that deal with various approaches, applications, evaluations, and uses for technology transfer. Agricultural System Models in Field Research and Technology Transfer fills this need. It presents the latest advances in the use of various computer models in agricultural management systems. This authoritative reference provides guidance on the use of models in field research, decision support, precision farming, and technology transfer to farmers and ranchers. Derived from an international symposium co-sponsored by the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science Society of America, and the USDA's Agricultural Research Service, it analyzes current system model applications for the modeling of natural resources, crop production, grazing lands, and animal production systems. Leading international agricultural system scientists present their experiences and provide guidance on how models can be used to enhance the quality of field research, transfer of research information and technology to farmers and ranchers, and decision support for agricultural management. They provide an expert review of the existing problems and possible solutions to improve future applications. In addition, Agricultural System Models in Field Research and Technology Transfer explores the possible use of an international modular computer framework to improve current modeling procedures in an effort to develop problem-specific models in the future.

You get:
Techniques for analyzing, evaluating, designing, planning, and simulating specific landscape types and elements such as water, terrain, and vegetation
A CD loaded with interactive modeling formulas and algorithms, plus demo versions of key GIS and CAD softwares for land elements, together with how-to instructions
Full color international case studies with site plans, photographs, simulations, sound and other landscape effects, and virtual environments
Customer Reviews:
Good book but a bit dated.......2005-03-06
Ive only had has this book a short time but I like it. There are lots of color images and text book like explanations.
However, the examples are somewhat dated as the book was published in 2001. Most of the sample images are showing some low poly objects, or discussing ways of representing trees which are frankly out of date. No mention that I saw so far of Vue D'esprit, which is far superior to some of the software discussed, such as VistaPro.
The authors need to update it with newer images and discuss some of the newer software, a lot of changes in 3d rendering have emerged in the last 4 years.
I doubt somebody who has been using WCS, Vue, Terragen, Maya, or any advanced 3D landscape artist would find a whole lot of use for this book, but it would be good to give an overview and explain some terminology for a beginner.

Book Description
This book aims to revisit concepts and processes in soils and their interaction with the biosphere in an easy-to-understand way using mathematical models created on ModelMaker. Even the most complex problems in the relationship between soil and the biosphere can be broken down and solved using this modelling package, making this an ideal book for students in soil, plant and environmental sciences.
Customer Reviews:
Modelling made easy.....!.......2000-05-30
I'm a scientist in natural science and I always wanted to gain more out of my data by use of some mathematics. However before I was very reluctant and shy to even touch the subject of modelling, mainly due to the fact that I was afraid of advanced mathematics. However, the material presented in the book is so easy to understand and can readily be absorbed. Especially the combination between the mathematics and the solutions via a modern modelling package I found very attractive.
I will continue using the material presented in the book for my own research and can recommend it to anyone who is interested to gain a basic understanding of models in the soil-biosphere.

Book Description
This volume comprises a selection of original contributions presented at a workshop held in Montpellier, France, in June 1997. The two main objectives of the workshop were, firstly, to bring together what is understood about the processes underlying agroforestry practice, and, secondly, to provide a forum to explore relevant models and modelling approaches. The workshop was also able to play a role in examining the agroforestry systems encountered in temperate and Mediterranean areas, including both traditional and more innovative agroforestry practices. The main aspects discussed were: ecological interactions amongst components, environmental impact, economics and policy modelling.

Book Description
This book gives a full description of the simulation techniques used in the greenhouse industry, including different environments from mulching to greenhouses. Another important topic discussed at length is the relationship between plants and the environment. An emphasis is put on the relationship between quantitative phenomena and qualitative analyses. Most of the phenomena involved are non-linear and non-steady-state. In this second edition we describe these phenomena with an approach called System Dynamics and mathematical models developed in the simulation languages MATLAB and SIMULINK. These models can be easily adapted to the specific requirements of the readers, and the environments in which they work. In general, the subjects covered in this book are relevant to graduate students, scientists, and researchers in the agricultural and biological sciences. This book is a valuable addition to libraries of agricultural organizations and individual professionals in both developing and developed countries.

Book Description
From mulching to greenhouses, the air space between the cover and the soil surface is the key to the classification of climates under cover. The same mechanism governs environments produced by the various covers.
This book describes and analyses all the different environments from mulching to greenhouses. The relationship between plants and environment is another important topic in the book.
Stress is placed on the link between quantitative phenomena and qualitative analyses. Most phenomena involved are nonlinear and non-steady-state. An approach called System Dynamics is used, and simulation models developed in the simulation language CSMP are fully used.
The subjects covered are of relevance to graduate students, to scientists and researchers in agriculture and biological sciences and, of course, to agricultural organizations in both the developing and developed countries.

Book Description
Computer Simulation Analysis of Biological and Agricultural Systems focuses on the integration of mathematical models and the dynamic simulation essential to system analysis, design, and synthesis. The book emphasizes the quantitative dynamic relationships between elements and system responses. Problems of various degrees of difficulty and complexity are discussed to illustrate methods of computer-aided design and analysis that can bridge the gap between theories and applications. These problems cover a wide variety of subjects in the biological and agricultural fields. Specific guidelines and practical methods for defining requirements, developing specifications, and integrating system modeling early in simulation development are included as well. Computer Simulation Analysis of Biological and Agricultural Systems is an excellent text and self-guide for agricultural engineers, agronomists, foresters, horticulturists, soil scientists, mechanical engineers, and computer simulators.
