4 out of 5 stars Must Read for Trial Attorneys.......2006-07-26

This is a wonderful tool for helping attorneys learn how to take powerpoint presentations to the "next step." Use to making power point presentations for seminars/speeches, I was uncertain as to how to best simplify them for use at trial and arbitrations.This book made it easier.In fact, several of the suggestions helped me to make better power point presentations for use at seminars too. I highly recommend this book.

The only constructive criticism I have is that it would be great if an interactive CD with a powerpoint on it accompanied the book. Given the nature of the technology described in the book, it seemed odd to have to read about it in a book rather than reviewing an actual powerpoint. Also, because of glitches in the power point software, it would have been ideal to see a CD show how to implement a presentation.

Book Description

Defend them in their hour of trial. Prayerlessness has rendered the church powerless and virtually irrelevant in this society. Defending another is a stretch for many. Judging, accusing and offering oneself as a witness for the devil's prosecution on the other hand is an everyday occurence. What happened to the intercessors and advocates of the early church? in this time-appropriate book readers will discover keys to:

* Winning intercessory techniques
* Focused, specific, persistent praying
* Self-preparation for effective intercession and advocacy

5 out of 5 stars How to Approach the God for Others.......2003-09-24

The Advocates by Eddie and Alice Smith is one of my most cherished possessions. I have learned much about prayer and intercession from the pages of this book. It has taught me how to prepare and plead the case of others in prayer; how to approach the courtroom of God and defeat our adversary before the thrown. The last chapter in this book is dynamic in that it teaches us the difference between purpose-driven prayer and problem-centered prayer.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting Insight with very practical Application.......2003-08-20

Once again Eddie and Alice Smith provide the Body of Christ with insight that can only come from an intimate relationship with the Lord and a profound knowledge of the Word. But they don't leave you just with that,but walk you through the practical application of presenting your case before a Holy God. Great book for all who love to pray and intercede.

5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2003-06-01

I loved this book, it has many new insights to the prayer warior or intercessor. It is an easy read and once I started to read it , it was hard to put it down.

5 out of 5 stars The Advocates.......2001-05-08

"I deeply respect the depth of Eddie and Alice's power in prayer. This book is an awesome tool for Christians seeking this power. I highly recommend it." --Evelyn Christenson, Author, "What Happens When Women Pray"

"I generally buy books according to the author first, then the subject. Eddie and Alice have been my friends for more than three decades. I would choose their book on both bases. They have effectively combined fresh insights, touching illustrations, scriptural principles and a unique legal setting to present to us an elevated view of prayer." --Dr. Jack Taylor, Dimensions in Christian Living

"Eddie and Alice Smith take us into the world of the divine court to vividly remind us that 'we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous' (1 John 2:1,kjv). This biblically based and innovative approach broadens our understanding of the privilege and power of intercessory prayer." --Doug Beacham, Superintendent, Georgia Conference, International Pentecostal Holiness Church

"'The Advocates' by Eddie and Alice Smith provides the most powerful and persuasive picture of the true role of an intercessor that I have ever read. Every praying believer needs this message." --Dr. Dick Eastman, International President, Every Home for Christ

"'The Advocates' inspires new levels of maturity and victory in both personal and corporate prayer opportunities! It will dramatically impact your prayer experiences! Absorb the dynamic principles of biblically presenting your case before the throne of grace, and transformation is inevitable!" --Bane & Barbara James, World Intercession Network

"At last, amazing insight into how God likes to be approached! 'The Advocates' provides us with an easy-to-understand study of how God wants us to pursue our cases in HIS courtroom. An invaluable handbook for intercessors." --Bill & Connie Fisher, Chairman Board of Directors, U.S. PRAYER CENTER

    Customer Reviews:

    1 out of 5 stars not for writing appellate briefs.......2005-10-31

    The tone of much of this book is condescending, the ideas oversimplified. This made the suggestions in this book, while they could be somewhat useful, offensive and almost useless to read (e.g., when analyzing your side and "their" side, identify "potential 'goods'" and "potential 'bads'"). Give me a break.

    And the model brief -- let's just say if you use the one in this book as a model, you will make a fool of yourself. Take a look instead at Garner's Legal Writing in Plain English - good advice without simplistic language or broken grammar rules. The whirlybird is the best, plus the book helps you get off the ground if you're stuck beginning.

                Young readers get down in the dirt with a friendly star-nosed mole as he shows off the different parts of his garden and some amazing creatures who live in the dirt. During this exciting tour, children discover what soil is, how it is formed, and why this substance is vital to plants, animals, and humans. This book is a must for anyone that teaches soil. As a teacher in fourth grade I believe this book is an essential item for the classroom. It has wonderful images and gives setps to create your own soil experiment. This Book is Terrific!

                5 out of 5 stars All the Dirt.......2004-08-04

                DIRT is a very accessible book. It starts simply and tries to make a connection with what readers already know about dirt. The author soon begins to call dirt "soil". It discusses soil's composition, formation, and use. It also covers the animals, insects, and organisms that live in soil. There is information about the layers of soil and conservation is mentioned briefly. There is a plant growing activity, but no resources for further study. The illustrations are colorful, clear, and kind of friendly. DIRT might be a good companion to the humorous "The Diary of a Worm". Karen Woodworth-Roman, Children's Science Book Review

                5 out of 5 stars Great nonfiction.......2004-03-08

                This is a great piece of nonfiction for children. It is well illustrated and the text is easily understood. Children will have a great understanding of soil and its importance. I read this to my class and we are doing one of the experiments presented in the back of the book. I love books that provide extension activities for children. Highly recommended. Young children need more exposure to good nonfiction and this book fits the bill.

                I bought this book Dirt and also Sand by the same publisher. I now wish I would have gotten both copies in hardback. I nearly never feel that way because of the price difference. We buy alot of books! This is one I can use now with my middle schoolers, use later and use with Grandchildren some day. The pictures are vibranant and well laid out. The information is pertenient, and well placed and it is FUN to read! Pre-school through early High School could appreciate this book, understand it, and find it useful. Anyone who needs to understand our soil would do well with both these books. They cover different material so neither would be a repeat. National Geographic, as always did a great job.

                    This is an extremely well-written and informative book about a perrennial kids' favorite--SAND. It is also fun and very, very attractive. The publisher, National Geographic, knows how to put a children's book together. I would suggest this book for nursery school classrooms, for summer vacation gifts, and for any child who asks, What is Sand? Great job!

                        Book Description

                        Soil may not be alive, but amazingly, multitudes of microscopic creatures live there, battling it out in an eat-or-be-eaten world. These tiny creatures, invisible to our eyes, provide food for the insects that in turn feed the reptiles and mammals that live in and above the soil. You'll never look at the ground you walk on in the same way after Raymond Bial, an award-winning photo essayist, takes you on this eye-opening, down-and-dirty tour of one of the earth's most precious resources.

                        5 out of 5 stars Top-notch material, great photography, engaging content.......2007-06-14

                        As an ex-scientist I was very impressed with this book. It has excellent content with respect to the importance of soil, what is in it and why it is important to the environment, life and planet. This information is presented in an age appropriate manner and the photographs are fantastic. Although this product is expensive for a 32 page book. It is hardcover, printed on high quality paper and has large and useful photographs that will spark the imagination of a youngster. This is exactly the kind of book I would have loved as a young man and I find that the kids I share it with seem to find it extremely interesting. I'm so happy that there are people putting out fine books like these for our kids. Among stimulating an appreciation and inquisitive attitude toward nature, it promotes an appreciation for protecting the environment and lays the groundwork for understanding ecology from the ground up... no pun intended!

                        Beautifully illustrated with informative text. The photographs are spectacular! The text is engaging for students.
